W New York

Here's your disclaimer - a heavy dose of opinion ahead, with a few objective comments thrown in just for decoration. You want to know whether or not to stay here? Only if you can get a rate under $200, and plan to either join the Hip And Trendy Bar Scene (TM) that overflows into the lobby every evening, or ignore them. I recommend just about every W in New York City except this one. The rooms at the W Times Square are MUCH nicer and bigger. The W New York is an older building, and the rooms are smaller than other W hotels in the city. Stay at any W except this one if you are looking for a true W experience.

I loved this hotel! The rooms are really small even for NYC, but beautifully modern and stylishly decorated. It's a "scene" more than a hotel - incredibly lively and fun! The staff was fabulous - so friendly, down-to-earth, and accomodating. Great location, too!

I have to admit after reading the reviews on the W Hotel I was somewhat uneasy about my hotel selection. However, I just returned from NY and greatly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. I agree that the rooms, the closet and bathrooms are small, but the quaintness of the room is what gives it its appeal. From the time I walked in the door I thought the hotel was quite trendy. Stayed at the W New York for one night in early May 2004. Booked my room through Orbitz.com for $179. Rooms are quite small, but who spends time in their room when they are in NYC? Beds were super comfortable and the shower was very nice. The room had a very small desk. Not real effective for business travel. For the room I think the price was about right. Next time I will spend the extra $30 and stay at the Waldorf across the street!

Our first room was the size of a closet. The King bed we had booked somehow became a double. Upon bribing the front desk, we were given a handicap room with a queen. We had to ask 3 times to get our luggage from the 1st room. We had a VERY expensive piece of jewelry stolen when room service came in Several thousands worth. Secutity made out a report but refused to copy us. Our mini bar was never restocked. There was ice but no ice buckets in which to place the ice. I travel a lot on business. I would not have liked to stay here is I were on business - no pool, small room, no proper desk (you tend to spend lots of time in your room when on business!)... but I wasn't on business this time, I was a tourist - and for a tourist it was perfefct! i paid $60 to purchase a triple A (AAA) card that ended up saving me $300 in total for a 3 night weekend stay...I would not recommend this place to anyone, if your okay with 3 star rooms(even though they claim 4), service with an attitude, and really tight restrooms, then this is your place, but if your a big guy, like myself, the rooms (even the spectacular room) which is suppose to be a whopping 350 square foot room is simply small, i can't imagine a 180 square foot room..anyways, BE ADVISED that anything you touch in that room will be... more

We stayed at the W New York for about 5 nights. I was also skeptical about this hotel after reading all the horrible reviews. However, to my surprise, the place was in a great location and the staff was quite helpful and pleasant. Yes, the rooms are small so this may not be a good place for "older" people as it can get crowded if you stay in your room the entire day. I think I must have stayed at a completely different hotel than half of the people who wrote these reviews. After reading some of the reviews I was terrified to check in to the W. Yes, the rooms are small... get over it, it's New York! Yes, the hotel is full of "beautiful people"... is that a bad thing? But as soon as I checked in my fears disappeared.
