Ok, the good point are it was clean and there were comfy beds. There are a few bad point such as the staff clearly don’t communicate with each other (when I asked reception if I could get a non-feather pillow as advised before we traveled they suddenly didn’t know and... more

Have just returned from Thirty Thirty and had a fantastic time. Hotel staff were helpful, rooms cleaned daily with fresh towels and amazing location, only 5 minutes away from Empire State Building. Although if you are looking to be close to Central Park it is about a half... more

The most dreadful hotel I've ever stayed. Overpriced, dirty, rude staff, cold, smelly, mouse infested and to boot a homeless hostel. Do yourselves a favour and stay elsewhere. Failing that, do more research and read other articles about this hotel, don't just take my word for it.
This is a hotel to be AVOIDED at all costs.

Fantastic hotel. This was the second time I have been to New York, and definitely a better hotel. The location is perfect, 5 mins from the Empire State Building, from where you can get on the grey line bus tour. In New York most things are within walking distance, and even... more

Whilst New York is a fascinating city with much to do, the hotel left a little to be desired. The rooms were small and stuffy and gave very little room to unpack a week’s worth of clothes. The transfer from JFK was well organised as was the return journey although... more

Please don't be fooled by the catalogues or web site. The Hotel was very basic, old and in need of some desperate TLC. The receptionists were curt and bored and at times un-comprehensible. The sanitary is dated and inefficient (toilets flooding), the windows are draughty... more

I have been to New York before and stayed in some similar priced accommodation, so far this is the best value for money. This hotel was perfect in terms of location and comfort for everything we needed in New York. We actually got married out there and the hotel had a... more

This hotel is perfect if you want to walk everywhere and New York is a place that you can walk forever in. This hotel is ideally situated just 3 blocks away from The Empire State Building, Macy's and Times Square is a 10 minute walk. The nearest subway is just 2 blocks away... more

The hotel me and my family stayed in was brilliant I couldn’t argue with the service at all. The cocktail bar proved very sociable and I made many friends over the very bar in fact I still keep in contact with some now. The best thing was that it provided easy access to... more

Our first time in New York, great location
Was recommended this hotel by our travel agent but got a bit worried when I read some of the poor reviews submitted! The hotel is located just minutes walk from so many great landmarks, so close to the Empire State Building we couldn't actually see it. It was a great base for our long weekend birthday treat for our 2 children. We managed to see everything we planned to and walked most of the time. The rooms are on the small side but we spent so little time in them. All clean and tidy and staff were friendly and helpful. I would certainly return to this hotel as a city so good they named it twice deserves a second visit!
Pleasantly surprised
I booked this hotel well in advance of our trip to the big apple. A couple of weeks before, I panicked and started looking for somewhere else to stay - but couldn't find anything reasonable for under DOUBLE what Thirty Thirty was going to charge us. When we got to the lobby I was a little worried about the 'minimalist' decor but when we made it up to our room I was ecstatic. It was nothing fancy but it was clean and comfortable. Considering we spent 14 hours a day in the city all we needed was a comfortable clean bed and bathroom at a reasonable price - and that's exactly what we got. I will definetly stay there again the next time I get the chance to visit NYC.
No more than adequate
Although advertised as being the 'hippest' new hotel in town the 30 30 was no more than an adequate 3 star hotel. The room was very small and the basin was incoveniently lcated in the bedroom not the bathroom. The best thing about it was the location which could hardly be bettered at the price. For a short sightseeing/shopping trip it was ok but we're unlikely to use it again.
Great location!!!
We arrived at the hotel, was impressed with lobby and restaurant and bar facilities. Had a choice of 2 rooms standard/executive. The lady at reception let me view both rooms. The standard room had its own kitchenette however was not like the picture on the thirty-thirty website, the room was dull and dark with a small bathroom( however it was clean). The executive room was very nice, had seating area and large comfortable bed. The bathroom was also very nice. We chose the executive room, it was clean and was not noisy in the evening. It did not have many facilities, tea coffee machines mini bar safe etc.. The staff at the hotel were helpful but miserable. The hotel did provide extra services gray line buses, helicopter rides etc they also booked a airport shuttle bus, which we booked. the staff were aware that we were waiting but did not advise us when it arrived therefore we missed it, and had to get a taxi instead. Other then that New york was great
Nice Deal in NYC
Believe it or not, I'd actually recommend this hotel. Inexpensive - and CLOSE TO MACY's!!! When I first saw pictures, it looked like something out of Vanilla Sky (the movie) - that's what drew me to it! I had a pleasent stay. SURE the room was kind of small, but HELLO it's NYC. WHO STAYS IN THEIR ROOM?!?!?!? It's awesome if you want to save $$ so you can spend the day and the night living it up in the city with style and then having a place to crash and shower for a few hours. Close to the subway, close to the Empire State Building, even close to a starbucks!!! And the Bathroom was very nice! Rock on 30-30!
Ok, but should try harder
We arrived at around 8.30pm in the evening to be told that the entire floor that our room was situated on was flooded by a burst pipe and that they would put us up in a single room providing a fold up bed for the second person for the first night. We were so tired after our longhaul flight that we didn't argue and settled in for the night. We were moved to a double room for the rest of our stay which was quite nice - the room and bathroom was very clean but shampoo wasn't refilled every day so we ran out on the last morning - I know just this is just a little thing but a little annoying at the time. Our flight home wasn't until late at night and the hotel provided us with a safety despoit box for the day for passports etc, free of charge after we checked out, which was much appreciated. We booked a town car back to JFK through the hotel, which costing $60 was more than a cab but was very handy and we used up the last of our dollars. We found the hotel very centrally located for our trip - which was mainly sightseeing and sociallising and found the staff quite helpful and nice. The hotel was quite well priced for what it offered but I would explain all the pitfalls to potential visitors before I would recommend it to friends.
I was obviously lucky!
I was obviously one of the lucky ones! I have stayed here twice (Feb 2003 & Jan 2004) and found it to be great both times (although full of students). The rooms were clean with adequate furnishings (you only really need a bed, a wardrobe & a bathroom!) and the location is great for exploring the city - right in the middle so you can go uptown or downtown very easily, we walked to Times Square in about 15 mins. For a cheap weekend break in a good, safe location I would recommend this hotel - hence my return visit this year....
Good, clean and cheap
After reading the reviews I feel very lucky that my stay was great. Went to NY with a friend last month (Mar 2004), arrived late afternoon and had no problems checking in. Booked a standard twin through Expedia (£410 for 5 nights for 2). The room (631) was clean and tidy (two beds, desk, chair, small wardrobe, safe and large tv, 3 lamps, telephone, all of which worked). The lighting was quite dim, and the view from our windows was a sweat-shop by the looks of things so we kept the blinds down, but it was fine by us. Bathroom was large and well lit, with a bath, shower and more than enough storage space, plus the basin was in the bathroom unlike other reports. Rooms were tidied daily, don't think the toiletries were re-stocked, but then who uses them anyway. Location wasn't great for us, would stay in Soho next time as there's much more going on there with great shops, bars and restaurants, but taxi's are easy to get and there's a good 24 hour shop and a nice internet cafe across the road for snacks. If I wanted to be picky then I could moan that we only got a free newspaper on one of the days during our stay, and yes the teddy bears in the rooms are horrible, but who cares about stuff like that when you're in New York!! Overall if you want a good cheap place to stay in the centre of town, then I would recommend the 30 30, so don't be put off by the other reviews.
This is not a hotel for you
You won't get what you booked. You won't get shampoo everyday. You view will be a brick wall. The staff are bit cheeky.Someone complains at reception everyday, so we didn't bother.
skanked
All I can say is that the reviews I read beforehand were right - our room was double booked and staff were rude. We had booked a "special offer" deluxe executive suite and actually got a delux standard ie no seating area as shown on their website. We only found out when we went up to our room and found that it was small, only had one bed and no sofa. When we told staff about this they were unwilling to accept any blame even though we had print outs of emails where THEY had confirmed the room we would have. At first they said we got what we booked and then when I said I knew they had 3 different types of rooms and that this was not the one we booked they just said there were no executive rooms left and that there is never a guarantee you'll get this type of room! All this despite their email to us confirming we had booked an executive! They even asked if we were not going to be sleeping in the same bed! This was their way of saying "but you don't need 2 beds and the extra space". Toiletries were not refilled the 3 days we were there - had to phone and ask for them every time. We noticed that all the other visitors who were at reception were complaining about somehting or other so I think everyone else had got ripped off too. The only good thing is the location which is ideal. If you want to get what you booked then DON'T book at this hotel!
