'Missing' property, Don't stay here!
1 / 10
Jun 2011, Lizzi1281

Ok, the good point are it was clean and there were comfy beds.
There are a few bad point such as the staff clearly don’t communicate with each other (when I asked reception if I could get a non-feather pillow as advised before we traveled they suddenly didn’t know and it seamed an effort to find out. Can you get someone to fix the safe? Yes we’ll get someone to look but when I ask someone else about it later as still not working they have no idea). Also there is no iron in the room as advertised, which I could have done with.
These are minor details in comparison to my mobile phone and jacket going ‘missing’. I left it in the room when we checked out. Yes, this is my own fault but as the safe wasn’t working I was carrying as much with me as possible and after doing a final check, I forgot the wardrobe (which I hadn’t used except to hang a jacket and hide my phone).
I realised half way round New York on a tour bus but didn’t worry as we were going back to there to pick up our luggage and wait for our ride to the airport. We got back at 6pmish and were getting picked up at 7.35. As soon as we go our bags off the concierge I went to reception to ask for someone to get my phone. I was initially told that they might not be able to get it as only housekeeping could get in the rooms. After stressing and begging security went up to check. I told them the room number and exactly what I had left and exactly where I had left it. After 10 minutes they returned without it. I asked them to check lost property and still nothing. By this point I was upset and angry. If it wasn’t where I left it and not in lost property then this to me meant it had been stolen. I said as much and was told to fill in a report and they would have to investigate and speak to the housekeeping from the morning.
I provided them with an email address and 2 contact number and on my return expected some sort of update. Nothing. I have since emailed them twice and as I don’t have a phone clearly, can’t call them. Not only have I not had a reply saying they have found it, I’ve not even had an acknowledgment email or any sort of update. Now I’m back in England there is nothing I can do. I can contact the NYPD to report it as I can only phone them and I can’t claim on my insurance as they don’t cover mobile (not something I knew before hand).
I will have to pay £10 to replace the SIM card if I want my old number and then £190 to replace the phone. After wonderful holiday, this is going to be the only thing I’ll remember.

Great location

Have just returned from Thirty Thirty and had a fantastic time. Hotel staff were helpful, rooms cleaned daily with fresh towels and amazing location, only 5 minutes away from Empire State Building. Although if you are looking to be close to Central Park it is about a half hour walk. Hotel is quite basic but is ideal for a short break - you will hardly be in the room anyway! The Crooked Knife (accross from Hotel) has awesome food and reasonable prices - go!! All in all we really enjoyed our stay. One thing i would recommend is to request a non-smoking room (if this bothers you of course)!

The most dreadful hotel I've ever...

Jan 2008, M Errington

The most dreadful hotel I've ever stayed. Overpriced, dirty, rude staff, cold, smelly, mouse infested and to boot a homeless hostel. Do yourselves a favour and stay elsewhere. Failing that, do more research and read other articles about this hotel, don't just take my word for it.
This is a hotel to be AVOIDED at all costs.

Fantastic hotel. This was the second time I have been to New York, and definitely a better hotel.
The location is perfect, 5 mins from the Empire State Building, from where you can get on the grey line bus tour. In New York most things are within walking distance, and even the walk back from Times Square was not that bad. Come on your in New York - there is plenty to see! At least it's all flat!
The rooms are small, however there were only 2 of us, and we were only there for 3 nights.
For a base, where we literally slept, and showered you cannot ask for more. The beds were clean and comfortable, and it had poss been recently decorated.
We got a taxi from Newark Airport, but the hotel run a chauffeur service which we took on the way back. It was cheaper than a taxi, and we went in a very posh Lincoln. Fab.
I recommended this hotel to my friend’s parents who went in November this year, and they also agreed it was fantastic value for money, in a brilliant location.
Go and enjoy.

Whilst New York is a fascinating city...

Nov 2007, Mr J Bishop

Whilst New York is a fascinating city with much to do, the hotel left a little to be desired.
The rooms were small and stuffy and gave very little room to unpack a week’s worth of clothes.
The transfer from JFK was well organised as was the return journey although weather meant a flight delay of over 5 hours which took the edge of an otherwise good trip.
The hotel was located about 2 blocks from the subway and only half a mile from the Empire State Building so in terms of location it was ideal. All the major tourists’ attractions were in easy reach as was the shopping and Broadway.
Must sees included the Empire State Building, Central Park, Statue of Liberty and the view from the Rockefeller Centre at height which was breathtaking.
All in all a good trip, but don't get your hopes up for a swift exit from the USA if the weather is bad.

Please don't be fooled by the catalogues or web site. The Hotel was very basic, old and in need of some desperate TLC.
The receptionists were curt and bored and at times un-comprehensible.
The sanitary is dated and inefficient (toilets flooding), the windows are draughty and old.
The location is close to the attractions, though is in an area that I would describe as being rough.
I complained to the hotel on my return, though their customer relations were as bad as the hotel.
Don't do it!

I have been to New York before and stayed in some similar priced accommodation, so far this is the best value for money.
This hotel was perfect in terms of location and comfort for everything we needed in New York. We actually got married out there and the hotel had a hairdresser and nail salon opposite as well as a florist next door. All convenient and brilliant without costing the earth.
The room was quite small for the 2 of us, but had all we needed and was very clean. Some relatives stayed in a suite within the hotel and it was massive and brilliantly decorated.
Worth a visit!

This hotel is perfect if you want to...

This hotel is perfect if you want to walk everywhere and New York is a place that you can walk forever in. This hotel is ideally situated just 3 blocks away from The Empire State Building, Macy's and Times Square is a 10 minute walk.
The nearest subway is just 2 blocks away and buses run frequently stopping at the end of the block.
The hotel is clean and the rooms are serviced daily.
Attached to the hotel is a cocktail bar where the staff are friendly and the service is above average serving delicious food and happy hour for cocktails.
The room I was in was a twin and was pretty compact but for somewhere to just put your head down at the end of the evening this was ideal, the bathroom was spacious and had a bath with overhead shower as well as complimentary toiletries.
Large TV screens were in the room and they were plainly decorated but still welcoming.
The lifts seemed slightly outdated with the traditional bell ring as it arrives at each floor, the hotel could do with being updated but it is certainly somewhere I would stay again as it was well within budget.

The hotel me and my family stayed in was brilliant I couldn’t argue with the service at all. The cocktail bar proved very sociable and I made many friends over the very bar in fact I still keep in contact with some now.
The best thing was that it provided easy access to the sights we came for e.g Madison square gardens and the empire state building. Which were all as beautiful as I first imagined.
My only complaint was the locals who were so rude and arrogant. Caught up in their busy little worlds with little time for manners. Obviously shopping was a must and the flight service was also satisfactory.
