hi all! i had a really nice stay at the golden arches! i went with my friends and we all liked it. i woudnt go overboard and say its the best hotel- but its what i would call comfortable. our rooms were cleaned everyday, however towels were changed every couple of days but i'm sure if you asked for a new one you could get one. the staff are friendly especially the owner some of the other receptionists were a little bit off but oh well it didnt bother me. breakfast was good too, a wide variety of things to eat. a generally clean hotel. i was worried about the lifts when i went because i read some reviews about the lifts being lethal- but they were fine!there was a wedding on during the weekend but it didnt bother me. the hotel is in a convienient place. there is a bus stop about 2 mins walk from the hotel to go into town, buses came every 15 - 20 mins. the beach is across the road from the hotel but u have to walk for a few mins to get to the public path to the beach because there is a hotel in the way. make sure you try water sports too at the beach- they are great! cyprus was full of friendly and cute people! i totally miss it and wish i went for longer! hope this helps! oh p.s. if you're a fussy person maybe golden arches wouldnt be the best choice- however i still liked it!
Don't Go
We went to a wedding in Cyprus this summer, and all the guests were put in the Golden Arches. Unfortunately, we decided to make it our annual holiday - big mistake. The location is terrible. It is a couple of miles from Limmasol, although there are plenty of dodgy taxis that will take you in. It is situated on the wrong side of a main road from the beach in the midst of a ropey out of town tourist 'development'. This leaves you with supermarkets, leather shops and neon lit tarvernas and english bars for entertainment. To add insult to injury you are opposite 5 star hotels like the amathus and 4 seasons, which really make you feel like you're slumming it! Okay, so to the hotel. Average service. The rooms were well under par. Dirty hairy carpets (got to be tiled floors on a beach holiday), noisy ineffective air conditioning, old sheets. The towels ... THE TOWELs, don't get me started. I wouldn't clean my floors with them. Old and (dare I say) dirty? We were fortunate enough to have a pool view, but friends on the other side of the building had to look at a carpark and couldn't open their balcony door because of the noise from the road. We were all inclusive. The food was horrible. When I go abroad, I want to experience some of the local culture and cuisine, but this hotel only provided poor versions of english food. Breakfast - bad, dinner - bad and no choice (soup nice though), lunch and inclusive snacks were the only half decent thing going. Drinks included - tea and bad coffee (definately don't go for cappucino!), local (weak) beer and wine, and spirits. You have to pay for cocktails. Which is ridiculous, because we just got separate free spirits and mixers, and threw them together to make our own! The pool area was okay. Bad for kids as there is no safe area for them and you can't relax. The kids paddling pool came up to my knees so it was useless for my toddler, and it was FREEZING! Entertainment in the hotel was one man and his plinky plonky piano (although he was great with the kids, and karaoke was fun). If you want to get away, and its not so easy with kids, it is possible to find a couple of half decent eateries around although they're all on the main rd. The public beach is okay, man made with black sand (WHY??!), but when we did go down there, it was far more relaxing than running after our toddler by the pool. Okay, so if you're not to bothered about luxuries and want a cheap holiday, then you might not find this place too bad. If you do decide to go, get a pool view, and take your own towels!
great.value.for money
tracy dave charley and roberta essex aug /sept 2005 paid 1900 pounds for 2weeks all inclusive including flights which was excellent value for money. the hotel was very clean , very spacious the pool was lovely and big and always clean. The staff were mostly friendly except one miserable young girl behind bar [we all know whom im referring to]..Service was usually very fast and dirty plates were cleared away so fast you would just be taking your last mouthful and vroom the plate had disappeared.Mind you it did stop the flys. The rooms were adequate but not much wardrobe space . My only real gripes were the hotels entertainment was lacking ,two nights of karoke was good fun the entertainer tried hard to get every one involved but apart from him twice a week not much else ,which just left you sitting aronnd with nothing to do. Also whilst we were there was 1wedding 2engagements 2christenings and 1birthday party which basically put a stop to any entertainment for us ,instead we had to sit and watch from the outside looking in which was,n,t fair to us or the other party goers. However we did make some lovely friends out there a big hello to them all.The kids made lots of new friends and keep in touch with them via the internet. IN ALL AN ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY.
Sad To Be Home !
Firstly as with previous years reviews that I have written, having returned from a GREAT holiday don’t worry about all the negative C**p that you might have read about the Golden Arches. It appears once again that the Great British public have descended on the Greek islands expecting to find English / Spanish holidaying, once again I urge you to stay in England or go to Spain if this is what you are looking for. If however you want a holiday away from home where the mood is more relaxed, the people are friendly and the weather is good, then welcome to Cyprus ! This was my first visit to Cyprus (but my 9th Greek Island – I love Greece), definitely in my top 3. I holidayed All-Inclusive, the first week with my wife and daughters aged 10 and 11, and the 2nd week my oldest daughter (21) and my Mother-In-Law joined us. Arriving : Firstly if you are making your own way to the Golden Arches from Paphos by taxi agree the price up front with the driver (I did this but didn’t know what the going rate was) it should cost you between £25 Cyp to £30 Cyp (that’s about £35 back home) I got charged £40 Cyp and gave the driver an extra £3 tip ! The journey takes about 50 minutes. The Hotel : Location : Just outside of the centre of Limassol, too far to walk but has a good selection of local restaurants and bars. Be warned the road that the hotel is situated on is used as a drag strip for boy racers, not dangerous but can get a bit noisy (having said that you quickly get used to it and it becomes background noise) Appearance : As previously pointed out the grounds outside the front of the hotel could do with a bit of a going over, the hotel itself fares quite well but is put to shame by a couple of the bigger more expensive hotels near by. But having said that I pay for the service and quality of the hotel not the decoration outside. Reception : Very efficient, the blue wristband is compulsory for All-Inclusive guests and is done up tight enough so as not to allow you to slip it off (use it as a guide to see how your tans coming along). The late night receptionist is a South African guy called Costas, he is extremely friendly and very helpful. Room : Probably the only gripe of the holiday, 1 small room with 2 beds and 2 camp beds for the 4 of us. This left very little space for anything other than sleeping, the cupboard is very small and you will be living out of your suitcases. However o a daily basis the room was cleaned and fresh towels were left, you’ll probably need to ask reception for extra pillows as you only get 1 and they are very skinny. Lift : It is fierce, however it does have a motion sensor on the door about 1/3 of the way up, cover it with your hand and you won’t get caught in its mechanical jaws. Pool : The pool is officially the biggest pool in Limassol, there are loads of sun-loungers and I can honestly say that regardless of what time you get to the pool there are always free sun-loungers. The pool does get a bit dirty (this is due mainly to the volume of people not showering or cleaning their feet before getting in) but I did see the maintenance man cleaning it each morning. You get locals coming to use the pool at the weekends, I guess this is additional income for the hotel as they pay an entrance fee, this again is no problem given the size of the pool itself. Residents : Whilst we were on holiday the hotel had a mix of English, Welsh, Scottish, German, French and Russians staying at it, most appeared to be families with kids on their Summer holiday, however there were a few couples about as well. Staff : Boy do they work long hours, you’ll see the same staff at dinner as you do at breakfast, and I can’t say a bad thing about any of them really. The only thing you might want to bear in mind is if your all-inclusive it’s a lot quicker to get your own drinks from the bar at dinnertime than to wait to be served. The guy with the moustache and the limp doesn’t like serving the kids, the lady with the glasses isn’t as grumpy as she looks and Theodossia (usually starts around 4:00pm) is a truly lovely lady who looks after the children when they are at “her bar”, and calls them all “Baby”. Food : Fantastic ! I can’t believe that anybody could possibly complain about the range or quality of the food offered throughout the day. Soup, salads, traditional Greek dishes, chicken, fish, octopus, lamb, chops, pizza, spaghetti, kebabs, burgers, pasta, couscous, chips, boiled, jacket and roast potatoes, variety of vegetables, melon, cake, crème caramel etc………… Med Hotel Rep : Julie, what a nice helpful lady, she’s around everyday at 10:00 apart from Fridays (her day off) she has all the answers to your questions and unlike other reps I have come across didn’t try and ram tours down my throat. I cannot urge you enough to go and see her even if it’s just on the first day to get your welcome pack. If you’re not with Med Hotels the other reps all seemed very friendly, obviously can’t comment on the service ! Entertainment : Limited but fun none the less. George does his musical turn 2 nights a week and Achilles does Karaoke on Mondays and Thursdays (also Bingo and a Quiz on Thursdays) Private Functions : When we were there, there was a Baptism Party, Wedding Party and an Engagement Party, these were on the Friday and Saturday nights, and were around the pool area. Firstly surely this is no different to back home, aren’t our hotels used for Private functions ? Secondly it had no impact what so ever upon the service at the restaurant/bar or quality of food we received. General Hire Car : Don’t worry about the crazy locals just do your own thing and let them buzz around you, this is a great way of getting out and about, give yourself a break from the pool and go explore. When driving a word of warning the A1 and A6 are the same road, also known as the “Highway”, use the B6 that runs along the coast to find all the secluded bays. When going home come off at Junction 23, this comes out by the Four Seasons Hotel. Troodos Mountains : Go and see the views if you like views, the little village about 3km from the top does horse riding for the kids (mine loved it £3Cyp for a 10 minute led ride), the little guy selling fruit at the car park knows all the roads that lead into English Cities and does nice fresh fruit. The guy selling CDs is good value for money but they are copies and not originals, download them yourself from home. Aphrodites Rock : Nice day out going along the coast, had to stop here as we were passing, if you ask nobody seems to know which rock is her birthplace (we took photos of us standing by all of them) turns out it’s the smallest one sticking out of the sea. Paphos Harbour : Good day out, looked at the castle and the mosaics, the shops and had some lunch, used up the whole day. Other Places : There are loads of places to go and visit, we only had the car for 2 days and did what we had intended to do (ie : the places mentioned above), talk to Julie for a list of suggestions. Shopping : All the local supermarkets and gift shops carry pretty much the same stuff and all at around the same price. Get the bus (Number 30) into Limassol old town, costs 70c per person and takes about 25 minutes and have a shopping spree, my credit card took a hammering due to the numerous sales at the numerous shoe shops, however my wife continually pointed out she was buying leather shoes at a 3rd of the price they are back home (why she needs 12 pairs of shoes is beyond me ?) Bars : There are numerous bars along the strip (turn right out of the hotel), we found Booms to be particular friendly with a really good Karaoke selection and some really delicious cocktails. Fags : Look to pay between £17.50Cyp and £22.50Cyp (£24 average) for 200 dependant upon your brand. The kiosk at the airport when you arrive isn’t good value for money, however we did find some good deals on fags and booze at the Duty Free shop on the way home. Well that’s about it for another year (Santrorini next year), if you were having doubts, I hope you are now feeling a bit more confident about your forthcoming holiday – Enjoy It ! Joolz
Could be better!
We were at this hotel in May 2005. It is on a busy road, with not a lot around it. The rooms were ok and kept clean. The food though was quite poor, not a lot of choice, the best desserts were served after a wedding or birthday party when you got their left-overs. One night we couldn't go into the restaurant until late because there was a private function there. We were all inclusive and most of the staff were great, but one in particular pretended not to understand you and walked away when you went to the bar. Entertainment was almost non-existent. Watching football on TV or the entertainer who did the quiz and gave you the answer instead of the question. Still - we had a laugh that night. But saying all that, we were talking to guests who had gone back year after year so it must be ok for some people.
it was very enjoyable
it was great , very clean and enjoyable all the staff were polite and plesant it is ver good for kids and i would go there again. The rooms are cleaned every day and towels are washed aswell. The food was very nice and there is somthing for everyone.
Great value for money!
We went to this hotel for a week in May 2005, me and my boyfriend are in our twenties and my parents in their forties. We paid £300 for the week to stay here and basically had an approach that you get what you pay for so went with an open mind. We needn't have worried, the food was excellent, the rooms and pool were very clean and there was always hot water. The staff were pleasant and hard working and the drinks were always plentiful. All the food was perfectly edible and the quality and variety was good, lots of lovely fresh salad and fruit as well as old favourites like meat, etc. Breakfast was good, full english available if you so wished or cereal, yoghurt, juice etc. I couldn't fault the hotel, towels were clean and changed daily. Alcohol was good measures, just make sure you are aware that after 11.00 you have to start paying for your drinks. Cocktails you had to pay for but you are on holiday and there is usually something other to drink. Good measures of local rum, gin, vodka, etc and real mixers ie: real diet coca cola and proper fanta etc. Fruit juice also nice. No stomach upsets, if anyone did have I would say it was the brits getting used to the weather and to much booze other than baldy prepared food. Over all great value for money, holiday, very much enjoyed, would go back. One complaint, lift doors a bit ferocious, other than that no complaints!
Golden Arches Limassol all inclusive
Golden Arches Limassol, we went all inclusive this is a below average inclusive deal. the staff where very nice and the look of the place fair. at weekends the hotel has privet weddings and the hotel is over run with guses and you the hoilday maker is made to feel very unwelcome. they run out of glasses, plates ect. the wedding food is saved and reheated for the following two days to you the hotel guess. their gala night food was pork and chips. the towels you have in your room are old and dirty you feel they are not change but reused from room to room. the sheet again are poor. if you stand looking out over the pool you can see just how drity the water is. 2005
A nice, quiet, basic hotel.
Took a last minute deal to Cyprus and ended up in the Golden Arches Hotel in Amathus, located about 6Km to the east of Limmassol, on a half board basis. The location is sufficiently far away from the tac of Limassol, with plenty of small 'supermarkets', restaurants/bars, car hire etc around. The ruins of Amathos is a 10 minute walk away and well worth a visit. The hotel is built side on to the road so all rooms appear to be afforded a sea view of some description. It has a good sized pool and sunbathing patio area. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our room, located on the 4th floor, was basic but functional. Beds were comfortable. En-suit bathroom with shower mixer taps in the bath. Plenty of hot water at all times of the day. Rooms were cleaned on a daily basis but area under the bed was covered in a thick layer of dust and appeared never to have been hoovered (my only grumble). Food was plentiful and varied. During our visit the hotel residents were mainly elderly Brits.
