Costa Cell Block H
from wales34part
We booked this at the last minute through Thomson’s online Hotel section and at only £225 all in for a family of 4 for a week, peak season, we though we had a bit of a bargain. Sadly how wrong we were. On arrival we though we had arrived at a prison I kid you not. The stone walls surround the complex and every window has vertical steel bars. Ok were on holiday I put it down to the Architects sense of humour. Parking is located directly off the main road or at the rear but make sure you leave plenty off room for the courtesy bus to turn or the driver won’t be happy. Checking in was pretty straight forward we were given the obligatory wristband and after parting with 18Euro for the safe plus 10 Euro Deposit we were directed to our room. The complex is a bit peculiar in so much that there aren’t any internal corridors. The ground floor rooms are accessed directly from the courtyard, the first floor from external stairs that lead to a narrow balcony that runs the length of each block and the top floor is accessed from a rather long steel staircase at each end of the blocks, which leads to a walkway to each of the apartments. Our apartment was on the first floor. On entering you have the usual lounge area with kitchenette table chairs and a couple of sofas. The bathroom is internal, has no window or ventilation and the bath is very short. The enamel on our bath was worn, the toilet constantly hissed (probably the overflow). Due to the lack of ventilation the bathroom became a steam room after a couple of uses. From the lounge a door leads to the bathroom. He is one of my biggest concerns with this place. Please whatever you do don’t close the door when you sleep. If there was a fire in the adjacent lounge when you are sleeping you have no way of getting out. As I mention before the windows have bars on the outside and therefore the escape route is blocked. There was a smoke/heat? Detector in the room but I couldn’t see any bells or sirens so be warned. There are a number of pools the two main ones being surprisingly deep 3.5m max. The pools were cleaned daily but only the water. The black scum that had built up around the edges was disgusting. There is also a tennis court, with no net to the sides so aim straight and a five a side/basketball pitch. We were positioned on the east side block. At 7.30am we were woken daily by a delivery truck that parked right outside our room window. Nice. So what do you get for your all-inclusive package? Well we all have different tastes and standards when it comes to food but I’d simply put it that we found the food to be totally disgusting. The order of the day seemed to be chips with everything battered everything the most gruel looking Bolognese sauce I’ve ever seen served every day, mashed up bits of meat and put in a sauce bruised and battered fruit and tired and wilted salads. Breakfast was the same every day disgusting sausage’s greasy fried eggs, strips of fat pretending to be bacon and chips!!!! Yogurts that tasted more like angel delight. Thank goodness they has a toast machine and some make you own tea bags. The fruit juice was awful to and to make matters worse you couldn’t get a drink from the bar until 10.30am The hotel was very loud during the day, to be expected I guess given the time of year, However the foul language from the English teenagers was choice and I couldn’t believe how many were smoking some seemed as young as 11 or 12. The bar staff were very pleasant but the San Miguel was very iffy. Although it was much better at the snack bar. The snack bar offered, you guessed, chips and toasties that were in fact a bit of a saviour given the quality of the restaurant food. The hotel is not far from the resort approx 1 ½ miles but it has no footpath along the roadside. We had a car for the duration of our stay and thankfully that gave us the option of escaping (as we called it) from the complex and we found some very nice beaches in Malgrat and further up the coast.11.00am every day was our cue when we heard the hi-di-hi, “ding dong ding” from the tannoy. We ate in Tossa a lot and can recommend the Chinese buffet for value and choice. Overall for the money we paid we can’t complain despite the fact we could have had a SC room in Tossa itself for £41 for the week. However if I’d paid what others had paid I’d be totally gutted. Overall we found a mixed bag of opinions. There was a large amount of French, Dutch and Belgium’s and they didn’t seem to Drink or each much at the restaurant. Some obvious brits pilled their plates high and some shared our opinions so each to their own is what I say. The quote of the holiday has to be a lady saying in the restaurant “Can I see the wine list”? – “We have white or red madam” about sums the place up really
Excellent.... Fab....Super....

Well what can i say we have been to this hotel for 4yrs running, it is a lovely place, there is something for all ages, different activities for all ages every hour in the day and evening entertainment every night, (Danny iand havir are brillant) which starts with a kids mini disco and games, then goes onto the shows some nights they have outside shows come in to! There are 3 swimming pools, the large one has a shallow and deep end the other pool is not for small children as is very deep and i could not touch the floor in the shallow end and im 5ft 1, there is a little pool for very small children and also a whirl pool which is nice. All staff are pleasant (the bar staff the best sammi and bob (nemo)) and speak very good english. all rooms are very clean but my best advice is to have a suite its worth paying that little bit extra as you will get a ground floor room if you have the suite for 5, suite for 4 are second floor and all the twim rooms are top floor (which just have 2 single beds in one room and sofa beds in front room) There is a free bus which takes you into Tossa which takes 5min to get there, it is a lovely little town and well worth the walk round the old castle grounds, some lovely views. The beach in tossa is a shingle beach but still lovely, you can catch the boats from here up to llorett which we did a lot as the bus into Llorett is very scary as it goes very high and lots of bends and they dont drive very slow.... I could go on about this hotel forever but i wont, i think i have put the best bits down. Oh if you can vist the water park it is a great day out and caters for all ages, we go every yr there, although havin a break as been there for 4yrs now, we are trying somewhere else in the world next yr, but rest assured we Will be going back to San Eloy. 1...2...3....4... adios
a little bit of magic
from destroy
we just returned last week from the san eloy in tossa de mar...i dont know who awards the star ratings for the hotels, but if any of you are reading this i suggest you go back to the san eloy and this time wear your glasses!!!! (only kidding)..after speaking to gissmo the bus driver i found out why the san eloy only has 2 ** and he said its because the hotel is a bit out of the way,,, it has no lifts,,, and there is no air con,,,well ok if thats the reason!!! as to our holiday it was brill,,the staff are amazing and the complex is really clean and well cared for,,, the food is lovely and always plenty of choice ...the resturant manager is a sweetheart all kisses when we were leaving and boy she can do her job well!! the bar staff are amazing as are the waitresses, the snack bar staff,, the cleaners, the reception, gissmo the bus driver and all concerned withe this beautifull place the staff are really hard working and the one that serves you a coffee in the morning will probably be the one who serves you a drink at last orders we feel as though we have know them all for years!!! this was our first visit there and we never spoke to anyone else who were just on there first visit,,, all at least three to four times and the family downstairs from us were on their eighth visit,,and an older couple next door were there on their fourth visit with friends (no children) when i asked how they enjoyed it so much the answer was simple,,,even although they dont have any children they love the san eloy because they feel totaly safe with all the families around and of course they feel they are going back to friends year after year!!!! just two points to make on the first night my mother was up doing the conga and she tripped over the disabled accsess and bashed her knee (sober at the time) all the staff came running to see if she was ok and offering ice packs,, so 10/10 san eloy for the disabled facilitys but just a warning to others out there,, especially after 1 or 2 drinks and also there seemed a lot of flies and wasps around although this is no reflection on the san eloy as they were all outside and probably worse because of the intensive heatwave weather!!! i dont know what else to say except it was magic... would we go back???? YOU BET WE WOULD!!!! 123 adios xxxxxx!
Great for kids but watch out for the wasps
from taskergang
We have just returned from the San Eloy and we found it reasonably good. We had 3 children aged 10, 4, 2 with us and as most of the other reviews say it is very aimed at kids. We only paid just over £900 for 5 of us all inclusive and that included a weeks car hire so we thought we got good value for money. The food was good and you always got a good selection and everything was always hot, on a couple of occasions there was food served at odd times ie sweetcorn for breakfeast, but there was always something decent available. The snacks were good as they were made to order. The staff where always friendly and helpful and the entertainment team always went out of there way to everyone entertained. We found that there was 3 bad points to this hotel and they were 1, The wasp, they were everywhere and I think at least 1 person out of every group was stung 2, There is no air conditioning in the rooms but you could hire a fan from reception for 20 euros for a week however you can buy them in tossa for 18 euros 3, This is no lifts so if you get put on the top floor like we did it can be very hard with young children Overall we would return if we got a good deal but we would take some wasp spray and asked to be put on the ground floor
traumatic all inclusive holiday
from grayman
the good bits room was excellent, the food was gorgeous, if you get a grounfloor room it is facing the pool. The staff were lovely especially in the restaurant.........Bad bits.Wasps nest near the bar and entertainment area. Pool full of bugs. No decent entertainment whatsoever (thompson staff told me they wernt allowed in the hotel after dark?) what little there was catered for the french and Germans. Telephoned Thompsons head office whilst I was there as it was that bad. Made an official written complaint which still hasnt been answered after two years. Other families left the hotel and had to spend loads to get entertained when it was promised as part of the all inclusive. Kids club a disgrace, paid for it then they cancelled most days and failed to tell us when they decided to open it after charging us! Imagine your son asking why they have left him out for the third time. Bus stopped at 9pm so you couldnt spend a full evening out.The English bus driver was very rude. It was my first holiday in 19 years and they let me and my family down considerable. Still very, very angry. This hotel had masses of potential, i do hope it has improved.
Terrible... If you are just couples

Awful, like butlins holiday camp. Cleanish, food ok but the rest was atrocious. I wouldn't say teenagers would appreciate it either. Made us go stir crazy in the evenings and get used to Agadoo, I Am The Music Man and Superman EVERYNIGHT! Absolutely nothing for couples. Don't do it

A* Best Place I've Stayed

Me and my family stayed at the San Eloy Hotel for just one week and wanted to stay for a lot longer. The rooms were very clean, and maintained every morning - There were lots and lots of activities going for the kids.....(Water Polo,Tennis, Bowls, Table Tennis, Pool) The weather was very hot with a nice breaze now and then. There are three pools, (Large, Medium (but deep) and Small), 1 Full-Size Tennis pitch, and a football pitch/basketball pitch. There's like a mini park for the little ones and a sand pit too.....The food was great Breakfast lunch and dinner was superb....We have really enjoyed it and made a lot of friends and will definately be going back to the hotel to stay for longer next time....There also is a bus, which Gizmo drives...takes us into town hes a nice man to talk to and will give you any advise on where to go in town. The entertainers were brilliant too, Yvon, Danny, Harresh & Alex they all perfomed every night we watched Lion King, Horror Show, Dancers, and shows including animals...they were great....everything they said was also said in other languages too...... Overall a very very nice place to stay...Will defo be coming back....Famous saying overthere.................1.....2......3.....Adios.

the whole truth about san eloy

we went at the end of may when the hotel was just getting it's act together for the summer THE GOOD:- the facilities for the children of all ages were great mine are 1,3,4,12 the childrens pool was right next to the childrens play area so they were contained in one area which was great the tennis and football courts were also next to here (fenced off ) so i was able to keep an eye on the older one. the daily entertainment catered for teenagers and adults and then smaller children approx age 6-12 this included table tennis shuffle board football tennis water polo etc... the only fault was there was no smaller childrens club like a creche The evening entertainment was excellent on some nights and basic on others but the entertainments team work very hard there were long intervals between kids disc, crazy game and then night entertainment. but still was enjoyable IT'S OKAY:- the rooms well some were better than others we had aground floor appartment which was cleaned everyday and we recieved clean towels the bathrooms are very basic but what do you expect for 2 star!! the food well the fish was always boney, there was always a meat like pork steak, shicken and often a stew or curry there was pealla and the usually cold salad , meat and of course chips there was no seperate childrens buffey but there was always pasta and sauce fish finger and sometimes chicken nuggets during the day you could order chips, hotdogs, cheese toasties and there was ice cream for the kids san muigel was the lager for AI and there was also Champagne part of the AI but they dont advertise that THE UGLY :- definately not the bar staff!!! no do not get your washing laundered i did and they came back filthy when i complained they rewashed them but they were no better The free bus to tossa de mar is only if you are AI but its only 1 euro if your not Gismo the english bus driver is great at telling you were to go i reccomend the condo glass botom boat along the coast to a private beach the hotel at this beach was cheap less than 5 euros for 3 large san miguels and the kids have never been so quit on the boat Overall for the money we paid booking direct with --medplaya-- and flying with ryanair with the good and the bad this was definately worth the money hope this helps
Me, my sister and my 10 year old daughter were at the San Eloy 06/08/11 - 16/08/11. We had a brillant time, food really good, staff friendly and entertainment was really good. We could not fault the San Eloy at all. We would recommend it and would definately be back next year. Thanks for a great holiday.
