I was quite disappointed with this...

Sep 2008, Mrs CA Swarbrick

I was quite disappointed with this hotel after reading the excellent reviews it had received.
The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and there is not much to do here.
The food is very basic although there is plenty of it and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
I think one of the main problems that we had was probably nothing to do with the hotel as we had the worst sort of neighbours in the room above us. These rooms are not at all sound proofed and if you should unfortunately get the neighbours from hell then you will be able to hear everything.
It was depressing opening the curtains in the morning to the concrete forecourt area. I am sure that the rooms with pool views are much more pleasant.
I think next time I book a holiday I will do a lot more research on the hotel and not just go with the great reviews for certain hotels.
This hotel definitely deserves its 2* rating. I would not put it any higher. Its a decent budget hotel but I would pay a little extra in future to make sure that I get a good standard of accomodation.

My partner and I booked our holiday...

Aug 2008, Miss S Peters

My partner and I booked our holiday at Thompsons had a fantastic deal (i managed to find a voucher for money off from hotukdeals.com) When I read some of the reviews (two days before flying) i was a little worried. We had rubbish times for flights and arrived at 3am. The reception staff were so nice and friendly even at that time in the morning. Our room was fine for us with plently of room and was very clean.
The main complaint people seemed to have on here was the food. I thought it was fantastic every single meal. Whoever said all there is are chips I think they may have gotten confused and gone to the wrong hotel! We had lots of both spanish and english dishes. The staff were always friendly and we never had to wait for a table.
I can see what people mean about some of the bar staff being a bit rude but most were fine. Lidia behind the main bar is really sweet and even brought us some drinks when we were watching a show even though we didnt ask!
Ok the main thing I wanted to say about this holiday was nothing about the actual hotel as it was lovely and had no problems. The biggest problem was Thompsons. Utter crap!! DO NOT BOOK ANY TRIPS WITH THEM!!! Buses didnt turn up, reps were horrible (TJ my god the woman is a joke!) Soooooo rude and arogant. We went on a medieval night out. She basically abandoned us and we had to find our own way back to the hotel and she even tried to leave people behind as she wanted to go out clubbing (the women is nearly 50 for gods sake) Go to the welcome meeting as you do find out about the local markets (be VERY careful of your purses) and also the town itself but NEVER book a trip with them. (if you do want a trip reception arranges them for a littel cheaper) We're actually trying to get our money back for that.
We're a pretty quiet young couple. There are alot of kids there but the people staying there when we went were really quiet and the kids didnt really bother us at all. We spent alot of the time at the middle sized pool at the back by the main bar as it was very quiet.
A fantastic hotel for a week (alot of people we spoke to who were staying for 2 weeks said it was way too much) when we were having our problems with the idiot reps the reception staff tried to help as much as they could even though it wasn't their job to.
One last thing our checking out time was 10am and our pick up time was 10pm. We were worried we were not going to be all inclusive for the whole day but Wilma at reception was so nice and said she would put the new arrivals in different rooms so we could still have our all inclusive meals and said we could keep our bands on. We thought this was incredabley sweet of her and she really didnt have to do it. Overall the hotel as lovely and I would go again the free bus into town every hour was also a great bonus!
I hope this helps a little.

Well were do we start, OK we booked...

Well were do we start, OK we booked again for the 4th July 2009, myself Dave & Leigh ( The king & Queen of Tepee ) & my kids Reece 13 Ross 12 Rebbecca 9 all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves that much we can not wait until next year, apartment was good, cleaned and fresh crisp towels everyday, food was above excellent, never had a toilet stop once through it, if you know what I mean, staff were very friendly, the whole hotel was clean and tidy.
Talking to people not just the Brits, but people from France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium all over, some of these have been coming for years, other are coming back next year as well, hope to bump in to a few, Hans & Family from Belgium ( hope the operation went well?, Peter from Scotland ( bloody foreigners ) Neil ( Noel ) Jude, Rachel from Blythe, Steve, Damien ( DJ ) drop me a line at brigadear@btopenworld.com .
The animation team was great, games start at 11am and finish about 12.30 ish, just in time for you lunch, the re-start at 3pm until about 5pm ish, dinner at 6.30 or just after ( this is when it starts ) then the fun begins at 8.30, with kids disco on the stage, 90% of the people attend this, the certificates are given out for the winners of the kids games and adult games, then the kids entertainment starts again until about 9.30 then the shows start at about 10.pm these are well worth staying for even with the kids, it all finishes at 12 midnight when you toddle off to bed and it all starts the next day, 2 weeks just goes so fast you will not believe how fast, not for singles or young couples unless you just want to chill and not get wasted every night, family's with kids a must, safe as houses.
The animation team work their socks to make this holiday, my hat off to to them, Robin - Netherlands, Laura- Spain, Leigh- Bradford?, Aggie the polish lass, Leticia- France, oh yes & Javi ( na na nah the fighting babies ) .
Well that's it, hope to see you next year, Leticia don't do it stay were you are.
Many Thanks Dave

Absolutely fabulous, 4 star plus...
10 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs Sjc Sue,jo,cheryl

Absolutely fabulous, 4 star plus accomodation, food, service, rep etc. Word of warning, do not attempt to get a taxi from Tossa de Mar centre after 8pm at night. This is not possible!!!. OK- tried at 3am in morning, probably not the best time, but you have been warned.
Rest of holiday great, would definitely go again.
Travelled to many places and stayed all inclusive before but was expecting 2 star quality. Not a chance, Bar staff great fun and cute too, bus driver into Tossa great sense of humour ( GIzmo is a bandito, think spanish for bandit), tell him we said so). If you travel thomson, make sure you visit Sonja, resort rep, really nice and had good sense of humour.
No typical lager louts throughout our stay, just fun people and lovely families, all out for a good time, espescially those that wore the crown! You know who you are!!!

we cannot understand why this is only classed as a 2 star after visiting we would rate it as 4 star. our family consisted of 4 adults and 4 children aged 2 to 13,our accomadation consisted of two suites we asked for them to be together which they were,we found them to be both very clean and spacious. staff were great even the ones who could not speak english. pleasant and always smiling and helpful. food great lots of choice. if you like a full english breakfast you wont be disappointed. the free bus for AI (one euro) for anyone else can mount up for a family over the holiday, this takes you in to Tossa and runs on the hour, this could do with being 1/2 hourly as this can be restricting. When we went it to Tossa and saw some of the 4 star hotels we could not believe how little room they had and how small the swimming pools were compared to our 2 star. one of the hotels we passed had the table tennis so close to the pavement we had a ping pong ball hit us. all in all we had a great time and wish we were there now.

Just got back from our week at San...
10 / 10
Jun 2008, Mr Martin Cross

Just got back from our week at San Eloy and just had to write about it. I always rely on these reviews so i thought i'd give something back for once.
On the day we (Myself, wife, kids: 15,11 and 9yrs old) arrived we got there 4 hrs before our all inclusive was due to start but they let us go straight to our room (for no extra charge) as it was ready. As lunch was being served they asked us if we'd like to start early and miss lunch on the last day instead, very nice of them, so we checked it out.
The resort is well laid out with the main pool close to the rooms and lots of grassy areas for sunbathing, there were loads of sunbeds so no need to get up at 7am to put towels out. Our room was fine, it was clean and spacious and nothing was missing or broken, we got fresh towels every day. The shower puts our one at home to shame, if you want to be pinned to the wall, feel free and whack it on full power.. and the hot water never ran out even after all 5 of of us had showered.. a big plus point as i was always last in. :-)
The entertainment team were excellent, they had plenty of activities during the day for kiddies and seperate ones for adults, nothing serious but good fun and made a break from laying in the sun. The same team also put on shows in the evenings which were always entertaining and every night they always asked people from the audience to come on stage for some light-hearted fun. The team really do make your holiday one to remember. During our stay they also had a few acts visit for a couple of hours, there was a reptile show and a parrot show which the kids loved. We never came away thinking we'd wasted a night..
The San Miguel flowed freely and i never waited more than 2 minutes to be served, obviously that may change in the peak of summer but as there is no need for cash it cuts the serving time down massively. Also, officially you're only supposed to get 2 drinks at a time but i never saw this, they'd serve you all the drinks you needed and always with a smile. The bar is also linked to the kitchens upstairs so if you're peckish at any time in the evening just ask for some chips, burgers or whatever and 2-3 mins later it arrives at the bar..and it was always freshly cooked.
Like others have said on here, the San Eloy is away from the main resort and as we had the kids with us clubbing and fun-pubs weren't important anyway. Definately a 100% family holiday destination. I've read a few reviews from people moaning about kids running around being noisy.. this is a holiday for kids and they are actively encouraged to run around and do stuff. If you're on a couples holiday or a stag/hen party this is not the holiday for you.
The restaurant was the thing we worried about the most but we needn't have been. Every mealtime was met by a different variety of foods, we never saw the same dish 2 days running. Even our fussiest boy was able to find something at every sitting. Every day there were different types of meats and fish all fresh and cooked perfectly ( we saw Salmon, Monkfish, Panga, cod, hake, fresh sardines, trout, veal, lamb, chicken, pork, steak, beef, quality sausages..etc etc) there were always pastas and fresh salads ( russian, spanish, english, carrot and pineapple salad was amazing) fresh french bread. And there was always a lighter option with different fruits being prepared. I didn't see anybody make a single complaint..not even that there wasn't enough as it was all eat as much as you like. The chef was always there too if you wanted to talk to him. There was always the choice of at least 5-6 puddings not including the kids unlimited free ice-creams that just helped themselves to.
During our stay we kept bumping into people who said it wasn't their first vist to San Eloy, many said they come every year.. that says it all i think. We'll be going back again too.
1-2-3 Adios

Jun 2008, Mrs E WILLIAMS

Myself, my 4 girls(aged 9,11 12 and 14) and my mother have, just returned from a 10 day self catering holiday at San Eloy. What a fantastic time we had. The resort was clean, tidy and great for families. We had a 2 bedroom apartment, which was spacious and had fresh towels, bedsheets and cleaned bins everday. The maids worked very hard and made sure you had anything you needed. The staff were friendly, helpful and made your stay enjoyable. There was so much to do for the children, the entertainment staff,(especially Robbie ) made sure the children had great fun. The evenings comprimised of discos and shows, laid on by the entertainment staff. The pools were clean, slighty cold but overall great fun. The hotel bus into Tossa De Mar was excellent, always on time and driven by Gizmo, who is very friendly. The only downside to the whole holiday was there was not a great deal to do for my eldest daughter. I would recommend this resort to anyone, and it is definately worth more than 2 stars.

After many many weeks of searching...
10 / 10
May 2008, Mr P Reynolds

After many many weeks of searching for accommodation in Costa Brava and reading all the reviews on Holiday Watchdog, the San Eloy was the best All Inclusive I found. I was NOT dissapointed!
I took my wife, two boys (4 and 1) and the Grand Parents on a 1 week all inclusive and what a brilliant time had by all.
I booked the rooms through Holiday Nights and booked the flights seperate and got a very good deal. Thank goodness we went all inclusive as the Euro is very strong at the moment and we would have been watching our pennies very closely.
The apartment had two double bedrooms and a sofa bed in the lounge area, which proved to be ample space for us all. It was basic but very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The only complaint I could make was the shower was very hard to get right and the bath was very small (we ended up bathing every day).
The food was impecable and ALL the staff were so friendly towards both the adults and children. The children could go upto the bar and get served unlimited soft drinks and ice-cream until they popped! The pools were a bit too cold at this time of year but they were very clean. The paddling pool was ideal for our two and we would set up sun loungers right by it so they were in easy reach.
Entertainment was provided for all ages and adults through-out the day, and the evening would have a mini disco and then a show. The entertainers worked so hard and the kids loved them.
A bus service goes every hour on the hour to Tossa centre (free to all San Eloy band holders), but you can make a very relaxed 30 minute walk through the woodland at the back of the complex....you can try and walk off all that lovely food you have been scoffing.
A well deserved 10/10 and I am confused as to how they can be a 2 star, keep up the work San Eloy as we will be back.
