Since booking the holiday in January...
8 / 10
Sep 2006, Mr L Dukes

Since booking the holiday in January we had high hopes of the holiday, till about 2 months before the holiday and my sister came across this site. Making our thoughts about the hotel really confusing, but as soon as we arrived we thought; ‘Is it the same hotel?’
We arrived at 10 30, like most holidays in Spain you have to wait for you room, we did but not long, ready by 12. When you were given your room you have one of two views, apartments (back), and the sea (front), we had apartments but we could put up with this as the room was really nice.
The pool was not as expected but we had fun and everyone could get on with there own thing. The staff were nice, not rude, but they would help if it was needed. The food was different I wouldn’t say Spanish; they try to cater for everyone’s tastes.
We visited the hotel during the Pineda fiesta, which added to the experience really good fun, like an English fair, with the weather. But the weather was the best hot days everyday except for one night we had what you might call a 'mini-hurricane' but it didn’t take anything away from the holiday, just added to the excitement.
Overall the holiday was one of the best holidays we had in Spain would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a family holiday as there is a lot to do with your kids.

Aug 2006, caren

A lovely clean hotel nice area we really enjoyed our stay but food was a big disappointment the same every day Spanish food and we didn’t think all inclusive was worth it as my husband only drinks cider which they did not do the larger is flat.
The waiters were ignorant unless you were Spanish the entertainment was good and the kids reps were lovely among with the maids who were really friendly clean towels every day and rooms cleaned mainly catered for the Spanish people pool is great if you have younger ones as it does not have a deep end so you can sit by pool relaxed and not worry.
My eight year old loved it there could not get him out of pool. Santa Susana is nice and only 25 min walk, would not go back here. Benidorm next year I think as food better. There's a brill bar down the road from this hotel called buccaneers you can get a lovely big Sunday roast for 11 euros fab and a brill breakfast for 6 euros as hotel the breakfasts were awful. It is a nice place.
Pineda, peaceful quiet even in August, but if you like the night life forget it not really catered for that Barcelona is a must you can get train for about 7 euros well worth it. Tossa de mar is lovely went on boat trip there well worth it quaint and some lovely shops and restaurants. Overall hotel for Spanish but lovely and clean.

Aug 2006, Mrs J Talbot

I traveled with my 11 year son to meet my parents who were also on holiday at Pineda. Overall I was generally happy with the Pineda Palace hotel. I was unlucky that my room was at the side of the hotel which meant I overlooked private apartments which were very close - if I stayed there again I would request a room at the front overlooking the sea. The room was nicely furnished and very clean.
The food was very good with lots of choice - most nights they had a BBQ going in the restaurant and the salads / fish selection was very good. If you are paying for drinks they are a bit of a rip off as you get the same drink as all inclusive guests (local & weak) yet pay over the odds - try and book all inclusive. The swimming pool is on the roof, therefore, not brilliant for young children, the pool is small for the size of the hotel, however, I found it very relaxing up there and the views are lovely.
Because of the roof top pool there are no ball games up there and lilos are not allowed, therefore, please bear in mind if you have young children although the beach is 2 mins walk across the road. The entertainment room whilst big is completely inside - there is no entertainment outside. The hotel next door "Aqua hotel promenade" has a lovely bar at the front of the hotel with glass windows that is much nicer to sit in.
The position of Pineda Palace is excellent with shops / bars etc 2 mins walk away. Pineda is lovely and if you walk to the back streets there are lot's of local bars / shops and restaurants which are very authentic. The train which runs along the promenade is very cheap, the stop is 2 mins walk from the hotel.
You can travel to Barcelona (1 hour - costs 6 euro), Calella (great shops) and Santa Suzanna (mainly new hotels / promenade) which are 1 stop away and Blanes which is about 20 mins away has some lovely fish restaurants on the promenade - full of locals which is a good sign (there are buses waiting at the station to take you to the promenade). Vary reasonable, clean authentic Spanish resort.

Aug 2006, Mrs S Williams

We have just returned from an 11 night holiday at the Pineda Palace Hotel.
I'm sure it must be the same hotel but some of the comments on the other reviews don't match our experience. I find it strange that some people thought they were treated as second class being British and AI, as the whole of the H.top hotel group is mainly AI for all nationalities.
While we were there Brits, French, German, Spanish, East Europeans were all catered for. The food was well presented and you could always find something to eat, lots of fish and chicken, fresh salads, veg etc. The chef also cooked something to order at every meal (fried eggs and pancakes at breakfast, fish at lunch and pork chops/fish in the evening).
Considering the number of different nationalities they did very well. The packed lunches were excellent (two packs of sandwiches, 3 pieces of fruit, cheese, tin of pate, bits of other things, drink - per person). They did only allow two drinks per person at the bar, but the choice of drinks was fine, beer, wine, spirits, a cocktail of the day, baileys, malibu (their own) children’s cocktails, fanta, coke etc.
There was entertainment every night and really good children’s entertainers.
The pool and sun terrace on the roof were very good and had a bar that served all drinks. The H.top hotels run a hotel bus that takes you to any of the other resorts all you have to do is book it the day before.
We used the excellent train service, but once at another resort you can use the facilities of any H.top hotel and still get your free drinks.
Also included in the AI are two evening attractions the Grand Palace at Lloret, and the Medieval Night Dinner - you just pay a small transport cost.
The hotel is very clean, we found all the staff friendly (even Juan Carlos the head barman) at no time did we feel like second class.
Would we go again - yes - but next time make our own way as 24 hours on a coach is a nightmare.

I’ve just got back from my holidays...
9 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss H Trappe

I’ve just got back from my holidays and was a little scared after reading the reviews on here; I didn’t know what to think.
I stayed there with my family to be, altogether: 2 males 2 females and 1 child aged one. I only wanted a nice and drinking, relaxing holiday. Brilliant hotel for a relaxing time! The food and the drink were ok and the waiters couldn’t do enough for you, the dinner was the best meal of all.
The entertainment isn’t much in the hotel but there is a different "show" on every night! The nightlife out of the hotel is nothing special it’s a quiet area but nice at the same time!
The pool is really nice it's on the roof top and there's a bar up there so you don’t have to keep going down stairs all the time! The barman upstairs next to the pool had a little attitude with the all inclusive or maybe it was just us, instead on everyone going to the bar for a drink we split rounds even if it was AI, one person will get all the drinks in, however you are only allowed to get to drinks in at a time, a bit silly when you all go in a group, however later on in the week he surely came around, (think he got a bit sick of us) ha-ha
The rooms are really nice, towels etc get changed everyday!
And the cleaners were really helpful.
If you do go here
I would recommend:
Marinland
Kids club even at night
The cocktails
Pizza
Shops
Market
Loads more
I would watch:
The lifts - Kept on breaking down
GERMANS!!! The have at tendency to push in everywhere SAY NO!!!!
No drinks served after 12am
Too many people that might be ok but for us it was a bad thing 12 am there is 11pm at home and the nights just beginning
The beach – a bit salty and stony
Overall I loved the holiday things went wrong but the memories I have will stay again, no doubt about that!
Happy holidays.

My wife and stayed for 7 days at the Pineda Palace, after traveling for 26 hours we arrived at 10.00 am and had to wait until 12.00 to be booked in. When we finally booked in we were told our first meal would be dinner at 7.00pm. Our room view was a wall of another part of the hotel, When asked for a change of room I was given a cock and bull story about how the builders had not taken account of views when it was being built. The bar staff also had bad attitudes with the all inclusive Brits, if your were German, Israeli or Spanish you were ok. We felt like 2nd class citizens. The head barman looked as if he would have been better suited as a bouncer in a nightclub. The 2 younger barmen/waiters would speak but were told off if they got too friendly. They were not helpful about what drinks you were allowed to have on AI. The food was not what I would have expected for a 4 star hotel, the first few days it was terrible but got better towards the end of our stay, there seemed to be a shake up when one of the hotel chain’s executives came on the scene. The staff in the restaurant were quite friendly and helpful. The hotel overall was good, the entertainment was good, they have a bus that takes you to other hotels in the H Top chain which is quite good. If you want a meal in these hotels you must book the day before, but you can have a dink in them anytime. Pineda is spotless, nice and peaceful, but there are not many shops, Calella is 5 mins by train or 10 by the road train, if you feel the need for shopping. Transport by rail is quite cheap. All in all, despite the unfriendliness of some of the staff, we enjoyed our stay, but we would not stay there again unless they sorted out their staffing problem.

Jun 2006, Miss C Crompton

Party of 2 females, mid thirties.
We returned yesterday from a 5night A/I break staying at Pineda Palace and thought it was brilliant. My mate gets married next week so we went for an 'alternative hen party' just to get a bit of a tan for the wedding photos.
The hotel looked lovely from the road and had marble floors throughout reception and stairway. Everywhere was exceptionally clean and tidy. We had been a little concerned when we found out that although the hotel is on beach front, there is a road, then railway in between hotel and beach but it seems the whole of Costa Brava is like this and you soon get used to it.
Pineda has a lot of accommodation but limited shops which is why the train station being less than 10mins walk is great. Trains run every 30mins and cost 6euro( less than£5) RETURN to Barcelona (which is one hour journey each way).
Calella is the next town to Pineda (next train stop, 2.40 euro- £1.68 return) and has all the shops you'd want for pressies. If you wanted to shop during the day in Calella, you could book to have lunch in one of their 'sister' hotels. All inclusive (food and drinks) would transferred there for the day/part day! Any bookings have to be made by 7pm the day b4 though but a free bus would take you to the other hotel the next morning.(We booked but ended up changing our plans and stayed in Pineda Palace, no problems).
All staff were pleasant, courteous and very accommodating but then we didn’t have many needs, just sun! The beach itself is shingle which we found a bit painful so we sunbathed up on the roof terrace which had great views. We saw some kid’s entertainment but it did seem limited so you would have to be prepared to amuse the children yourselves for most of the day. Evening entertainment was varied but it was nice that nothing was pushed onto you.
Everyone always wants to know about the food. The food was fabulous. The selection was always varied and we got to try some lovely dishes. They even have a microwave which is ideal for baby foods and heating up the rice pudding (which is served as a cold dish). Friday was Mexican night but at every meal there was a chef cooking fresh fish, meat, etc behind his counter.
The food put out for snacks after tea always included bread rolls, ham, cheese, bacon, sometimes chips but always fruit. You could always make a ham roll, etc. We had read the write ups on this hotel and feel we were either really lucky or perhaps easily pleased. A high standard throughout. Why 9/10 and not 10/10? Well we got to expect such great variety in the dining room that on Thursday we were a little disappointed. There was a good selection but we got picky and didn’t fancy a lot of it.
Although I’m not one to re-visit a hotel, my mate hopes to return with her new hubby next year!
Happy holidays.

If your British then stay away, if...

If your British then stay away, if you British and under 30 looking for a decent mix of night life and restaurants then forget it, if you are French, Spanish or Russian and over 60 then this is the place for you.
We went as a party of 7 (6 adults and one 2yr old) and was made to feel underclass by the staff, we went AI but the rules they have brought out this year make it feel like some sort of restricted Butlins affair - BRITISH? DO NOT GO - EVEN IF ITS FREE!
The rooms are "ok" but the food is rubbish - come on who eats baby squid or cauliflower in batter? Anyway the food is rubbish!
If you go for an AI holiday you expect that the bar will be open until at least 12pm but this one closes at 11pm to all on AI at which point you are expected to pay London prices for your drinks until 12pm when it shuts - you are not allowed to have a few drinks left on your table either!, then at 12pm you are pushed into to hotels lobby where there is a no smoking restriction (new Spanish law) by some Gestapo security person wearing a baseball bat and hand cuffs! You are expected to whisper here as they don’t like any noise due to the pensioners staying there!
All in all, we had a bad time here and we would advise any British folk to look else where, I was looking for a flight home midway through and would have bought one if the price was right at the time! They should have paid us to go there! We met up with folk from all parts of the UK and all said the same, this holiday was a waste of time and hard earned money! Don’t go here!

Brilliant hotel for a relaxing time! The food and the drink where really good but the food was mainly for the Spanish taste on Friday we had a Mexican night which was good!
The entertainment isn’t much in the hotel but there is a different "show" on every night but it’s repeated each week! If you don’t want to get involved in the shows there is no obligation! The nightlife out of the hotel is nothing special its a quiet area but nice at the same time! Bar staff are really friendly well most of them!
The pool is really nice it's on the roof top and there's a bar up there so you don’t have to keep going down stairs all the time!
The rooms are really nice, towels etc get changed everyday! We had a sea view which was really nice, from the other parts of the hotel there is nothing much to see!
All in all a good holiday and well worth the money would go back again if I had the chance.

Apr 2006, Mr P Roberts

Hotel was clean and tidy, food was repetitive chicken fish and pork, we had lamb on menu once and beef once, snacks usually consist of leftovers from the main meals. The food was never hot, tea and coffee is provided from vending machines and only warm.. Staff were not very cheerful or helpful.
Situated on beach front is an ideal location with train station a few minutes walk. There was very little to do in the resort. Entertainment varied from not too bad to poor, there is nothing for kids to do at this hotel / resort. There is no tea making facilities in the rooms and the rooms are small and poorly furnished only having one chair and a chair for dressing table.
The satellite TV they have provides 3 English speaking channels BBC World CNN and occasionally MTV. I would not return to this hotel again, in the closed season. It may be different during holiday season. If you go at Easter be prepared for hotel to be full of Spanish senior citizens, as the government pay for a holiday for them at this time of year.

Apr 2006, Mr A O'neill

As soon as we stepped off the plane we were told we had been changed from Santa Susannah to Pineda de mar because our hotel had not opened for the season . On arrival at the hotel all excited about our holiday, staff were unfriendly and rude. When we got to our room the view was into a smelly offensive pool accompanied by a dog barking from when we arrived to we left. When asked for a change of room the receptionist did not lift her head to give eye contact, but was nothing more than ignorant. This was the flavour throughout the holiday.
The hotel was a mixture of Colditz and Butlins, very regimented in their rules. I.e. no food taken from the dining room, snacks to be eaten in the dining room in the dark at times. No kids club or room service as advertised, once they realised we were all inclusive we were treated like second class citizens.
We had to book the Jacuzzi the day before ,it was always full, gym equipment broken, same food every day , tables so close together eating was very uncomfortable, I could go on and on . The seven days spent in this hotel was seven days too long nothing for children to do nor adults as the resort was dead. This was the view of the Scottish people who spent time with us. The worst thing of all was the staffs attitude towards us they were like prison wardens which made a lot of people very angry.
