Great place to stay
Have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Brilliant and they certainly live upto there name, we have one and only gripe and that is the balcony was very tiny, with room for only 2 people to sit out in the evening and when there is a party of 5 this is a squeeze, but other than that the holiday and hotel were fantastic, rooms were cleaned daily except for changeover days and towels were changed regularly, the rooms were spacious little short on wardrobe space, but we managed. Pool bar and staff were excellant, they do a lovely full english brekkie for 5 euros, the snacks were excellant too, nothing was too much trouble for reception staff, the apartments are well located we will definately return, You will not be disapointed if you have booked to stay here
Brilliant !!! Location, location, location
We have just returned from a 2 week trip to the Brilliant apartments in Cyprus. Having read the highs and lows of everyone elses holiday experiences here, we didn't quite know what to expect. Quite frankly, we really should not have worried. This was booked for a party of 15 people including 5 children aged 3-10 and we tried to keep the holiday price as low as possible so that more friends could book if they wished. The hotel itself had friendly staff and was nice and clean. Rooms are basic but we didn't expect to much so we weren't really worried. The rooms were cleaned 5 days a week (so watch out that you dry your own towels on Wednesday and Sunday as you won't get any clean ones). Prices at the Brilliant for food and drinks were without a doubt excessive (Eu 6.50 for a large bottle of magnus!!!!!!!). But really we spent such a small amount of time at the hotel that it really didn't botter us that much. We could always go back to our rooms for a tipple if we wanted. The pool at the hotel is lovely and clean and makes an ideal base for the days we weren't on the beautiful beach. The beach is stunning and 2 sunbeds and one umbrella was 6 Euros. Plenty to do on the beach (depending how much money you want to spend). We did a fantastic trip with Stephannos on a extreame spead boat which was enjoyed by all 14 of us that went. (Quite expensive but worth the money). You can get to the beach and strip by going out the back of the hotel and through Eden Square. Don't miss out on eating at Zucchinis (a restaurant right in front of the exit of eden square), the food, service and menu are fantastic. We also found 2 more stunning restaurants. If you go left from facing Zucchinis at eden squre and walk down until you are near McDonalds (Please, please, please don't let this put you off) there is a restaurant called Oscars. The food is amazing and the sea food pizza a lovely change from the norm. If you go right from eden square and stay on the right hand side there is a restaurant called promises that serves lovely fresh food (just before the enterance to Fig Tree Bay). Try the plank steak, we guarantee you'll love it. (You'll notice as you are walking down this side of the road there is a bakery. This is the sum total of where all of our lunches came from. It has a fresh salad bar (yummy!) as well as masses of baked goods (pies, pasties, pizzas and jacket potatoes), filled sandwiches and rolls and also unfilled rolls with a fridge full of items to fill them yourself. (Just a quick note for those of you worried about any healthcare; we had a lady withus who reacted badly with the suncream and heat. Also a child who came down with chicken pox. The clinic is a very short walk away and our praise for them could not be higher. They will not accept your money, just your insurance details and were fantastic with both of these cases). We would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Protaras on a budget (but would state that Cyprus in general is an expensive place to holiday and you will need plenty of spending money). The Brilliant provides the best location for the cheapest money. We were told by many people that some of the 5 star hotels have had apauling reviews and must admit that although we generally go at least 4 star, this was an ideal location for this area. Everything was within a short walking distance without the disturbance of all of the activities on the strip. All in all a great holiday.
Excellent Location
Stayed at the Brilliant Apartments for a week in July 2005. Third visit to Protaras but first to these apartments. Excellent location idealy suited for a Self Catering holiday numerous restaurants and bars located nearby. Beach is probably the best in Europe. Apartments kept clean with good entertainment.
Lived up to it's name
Good clean apartments, if going ask for rooms 17,-27 (odd numbers only) ground floor, patio leads onto the poolside. Pool chilly but ok. Off season so hotel entertainment not up to much, cancelled Robbie Williams for the Rugby World Cup Final,(Hooray), Excellent location near the "strip" where there was plenty of entertainment every night. Protaras is a good clean, small resort, still busy enough even when we were there in Oct 07. Overall I would recommend these apartments and Protaras.
Awful!
We booked the Brilliant Apartments because we had read very good reviews - but on arriving found it to be absolutely awful! We were given a room which overlooked a building site where we were woken up at 7am in the morning by the builders. Luckily the hotel reception staff were very nice and let us change rooms to the other side of the hotel. We had booked half board but found this to be very poor as you only had the choice of about 5 basic meal options each night - if you paid for your meal you were given the full extensive menu! The hotel is very old and dated and should be given a rating of a 1 star hotel rather than a 3 star hotel! We found this hotel to be very pricey for the quality of accommodation. Would definitely not go back again!
Not so brilliant
We have visited Cyprus three times and the Brilliant apartments came highly recommended. At the time of our booking we requested a pool view and a low room as we have a toddler. On arriving at the hotel the room we were given overlooked a building site at the side of the hotel and was a bit small with hardly any wardrobe space. On asking for a room move we were told that it wouldnt be until 3 days into our holiday - so we lived out of suitcases as it was hardly worth unpacking! The room we eventually moved to was adequate but again there was hardly any wardrobe space and the cupboards were very foisty! We found the drinks/ices really expensive around the pool and a lot of people were getting ear infections from the water. All our swimwear turned yellow and even though the management stated that any towels put on loungers before 8.00 A.M would be taken off, people were still putting them out earlier than that. All in all I would say that these apartments are rather pricey and we were a bit disappointed, and we didn't have as much of a brilliant time as we normally do in Cyprus!
quite basic
We stayed in August 2007 My partner, me & 2 teenage boys. Rooms are adaquate but basic & yes the wardrobe space was very small. OK for boys but if you have fussy girls who need to hang up clothes you may fight for space. The pool is a fair size but the shall end is only approx 1/4 of the entire pool. The rest in over 6 foot deep !! Both my partner & his son picked up ear infections whilst diving in the pool although for all intensive purposes it looked clean. We chose the half board option at £10 per person. I would discourage anybody else form doing this as the hotel only receives 75% of this and consequently you are limited to a set menu which you could get cheaper in the town. Also the drinks were not cheap That said there was a good variety of dishes on the set menu & the quality of food was good & freshly cooked. Beware of the BQ night. We stayed as it was included in our half price option. But all food was cooked in the kitchen in advance & brought out and sat on a few coals for effect. They said that you could go back for more if you wanted to but once every one had been up once there was only scraps left. All in all I would say that it was an ok place to stay but I wouldnt rave about it
Great Holiday
We needed a summer holiday that allowed our to teenge daughters some freedom. Their ages were 15 and 16. To young to be adults to old to be kids. This resort and hotel was exactly what we wanted. Lots of families in the same situation. The apartment was a one bedroom with the four of us sharing. It was very spacious, and clean and the girls had plenty of their own space. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was spot on. Five minutes walk from the strip and seven to ten minute walk from the beaches, depending on which beach you wanted. The evening entertainment wasn't the best, but we tend to do our own thing anyway when on holiday. From the hotel the bus to Aiya Napa takes about ten minutes. The only down point if you can call it that, is that you have to get up about 7.30 of the morning to reserve a sunlounger with a a parasol. This didn't spoil our holiday though we had a good time. We're even thinking of going back again next year.
great getaway
first visit to cyprus and had read many good reviews around these apartments. The location was perfect, only 5-10 min walk down to fab beach, beautiful clear water and plenty of loungers. the hotel pool is very large and clean and the staff are all very freindly. Our room overlooked the pool with sea views, the bathroom was TINY, but it was kept clean with plenty of fresh towels. Would recomend self catering as there are many places to eat and drink on the main street which was only a 5 min walk. Evening entertainment in the hotel was a bit hit and miss, but we went for a chill out anyway, and there are enough bars around if thats what you want. Spoke to a few peolple that had come back on return visits which i think says a lot. Locals were lovely and protaras still had a cypriot feel to it unlike some parts of spain. would certainly go back....Enjoy!
Brilliant location
We stayed at the Brilliant apartments last October for ten days as a family group. This was our second trip here as they have such a good location, situated just far enough away from the strip at Protaras to be peaceful. We had 2 x one bedroom apartments on the ground floor- massive balcony for our grandson to play on (not all have these). No complaints about the accommodation, it is fairly basic, but clean, and has everything you need - kettle, toaster, air con included. It is just a short walk from all the shops and bars in Protaras, cutting through the new Eden square development. There is occasional entertainment at the hotel, but no kids club or playground. You can buy breakfast, snacks and evening meal if you want, although there is a huge choice of eating places in the resort. The pool area is very nice and we had no trouble getting a sunbed, although this was not high season. The beaches all along this coast are really nice with long sandy stretches or little coves further along. Our favourite was Konnos Bay out towards Cape Greko. We booked direct with the hotel and Cyprus Airways, as it was cheaper than a package. However, if we went again we would use BA for the flights.
