Jan 2006, Mr R Davies

The Nastro Azzuro hotel is 4 star. It was nice enough in the public areas but our bedroom was damp and cold. The waiters in the restaurant were all very friendly but the food was awful. Breakfast was the usual hot dog sausages and cold scrambled egg, along with fruit and cakes.
Dinner was a bit better but the starter and the pudding was much better than the main course. We felt that our holiday was spoiled because the hotel was so far out to the city, and although this meant it was quiet in the day time, the local peoples dogs kept us awake most nights.
There is a free bus that you have to book to go into the town and book a time back, this is not convenient as you are not sure what time you want to come back and many times the bus did not turn up at all so you had to wait an hour for the next one and if that was full you had to wait another hour or get a taxi which we did and it cost us over £35.
All in all I liked Sorrento but would not stay so far out of the city if I went again.

The hotel is on the crest of the hill...

Aug 2004, Mrs A Mitchell

The hotel is on the crest of the hill overlooking Sorrento and the bay of Naples to the north, with Mout Vesuvius in view and looking south over the Med near Amalfi.
The location is perfect from a weather point of view, gentle breezes temper the heat of summer. It is also a great location for watching firework displays which occurred almost every night somewhere in the hills!
The hotel provides a courtesy bus into Sorrento, very useful as taxis could be expensive. The resort of Positano is about 5km away and can be reached by local bus or by boat from Sorrento.
Boat trips to Capri and Ischia are popular, especially when you can jump off and take a dip by the grottoes on Capri - simply heavenly.
Food in the are is fantastic, delicious seafood and tomato pasta dishes. The hotel food is good but there are also villages close to hand such as Colli Di Fontanelle(10 min walk) .
Where you can get have amazing home made pasta and seafood dishes for amazingly low prices (Stellucia’s).
The hotel has a grand tennis court overlooking the sea with wrought iron balconies for spectators to sit and watch. Altogether a fabulous destination!

Jun 2004, CammyJ

My first visit to Italy was to Sorrento in June. My wife’s friend had asked her to be a bridesmaid at her wedding. As it turned out the wedding was going to be in Sorrento. Half the bridal party consisting of 11 were booked to stay at this lovely hotel.
The Nastro Azzuro is situated about 20 to 30 minutes drive from the centre of Sorrento - with fine views down to the Gulf of Salerno and The Gulf of Naples. The hotel provides a courtesy bus back and forth to Sorrento centre for residents. Mario the driver was always cheerful and helpful.
Food in the hotel was of a good standard, with plenty of choice. Breakfast consisted of the usually buffet hot and cold meats and cheese combined with cereals. Evening meals consisted of 4 course served by the waiters. Service at times was a bit slow - but hey who cares your on holiday. You could also as an alternative for go your evening meal in favour of lunch by the pool. We did this a few times, allowing us to enjoy the restaurants in Sorrento centre.
We had a free room upgrade on arrival to the Marrino block. The view from our huge balcony was superb. The room itself was also very nice - and boasted a very large plush bathroom. The maid cleaned the room every day apart from Sunday.
Highlight of the week was the actual wedding day - The staff in the hotel were magnificent - providing flowers in the garden and an extra meal. At night we enjoyed a two piece band - who ensured all guests enjoyed a good party.
Other highlights of the week are the musts see sight around the area ......... Pompeii, Vesuvius and Capri.
Overall we all enjoyed our stay at the Nastro Azzurro and would recommend the hotel for a nice relaxing break Only real minus is the location - if we return to Sorrento we will stay in the centre to be closer to the nightlife.
