Lovely hotel
My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in the Pierre and we had a fantastic time. The hotel is right on 5th Ave overlooking central park and very close to all the major shops (Barneys; Bloomingdales; Saks etc). It is very ornate in an old worldly New York style (ie more like the Waldorf or Plaze than the Mandarin Oriental or Peninsula). It still feels like a Four Seasons even though it is now part of the Taj group of hotels. Our room was large by NYC standards, in excellent condition, and was exceptionally quiet (no traffic noise). The... more
Needs a lot of improvement under new Management
Rooms (moved around 3 times) are in serious need of renovation - stained carpet, chipped bathtubs/marble/walls. Foul stale smell on the floors. We indeed checked out and moved to Ritz after spending 1 night and had an awesome stay from there on. Pierre Bellman/Doorman have this attitude thing (no help with luggage maybe because we were dressed in casuals and hailed a yellow cab). No offer for their use of courtsey car (whose driver was standing next to doorman and simply smoking) even when we informed Doorman we are moving to Ritz CP! Front... more
Magnificent Hotel
A fabulous hotel. We would absolutely stay here again. The hotel is all about service and elegance and succeeds at both. The staff is professional and attentive. A great place to stay.
Don't believe many of these negative reviews
It all has to do with expectations. If you're a self-important jerk who thinks the world revolves around you and if you demand nothing less than perfection from the staff of every hotel you visit, then the Pierre isn't for you. And neither are most fine hotels. But the Pierre works quite nicely for me. My wife, kids (ages 7,4, and 2) and I stay at the Pierre a few times a year and absolutely love it. We love the staff who seem to take a genuine interest in us and our children. Remarkably, the staff has changed very little over the... more
Like Your Favorite Old Cashmere Sweater
Like your most comfortable old cashmere sweater, the Pierre wears like it fit from the first day you tried it on. Quiet, comfortable, and yes, old-fashioned, everything is done to make you feel like the most important guest of the moment. For the standard corporate rack rate, we got a huge room with sitting area, a large double-sink bathroom and the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. The Cafe Pierre with it's faux-rococo ante-room provides a calm, unrushed oasis of murmuring service with steaming hot tea or icy cold martini's in an... more
Overpriced,stay at the Palace!
I have to say the location is nice but there are better hotels than this in New York for the price. I would stay at the New York Palace before the Pierre again. The service is okay and some of the staff seem stuffy. I do not recall anything outstanding about the property. And we have stayed at many different properties in the city and I had always wanted to stay at the Pierre so my husband finally gave in,he does not have to worry about that again.
Old style Fifth Avenue hotel
Stayed at the Pierre for 3 nights. Wonderful old style boutique hotel on Fifth Avenue opposite Central Park - fantastic location. Room was spacious and comfortable with traditional decor. If you want a modern hotel - this one is not for you! My wife loved the Bulgari bathroom products. Slight hiccup one day when the room lock malfunctioned and the lower door panel had to be removed so we could clamber out! Staff were extremely apologetic, however, and gave us 50% off that night's tariff. If you want to experience traditional style... more
Pleasantly surprised
Stayed here for 2 nights this past weekend, and was pleasantly surprised. (I must said that after reading most of the negative reviews I was not expecting much) The staff was professional and anxious to help, up to Four Seasons standards. The room was large enough to make the king size bed look small (unlike my experiences at the Waldorf or Marriot Westside), except the TV was tiny, I don't think it was even a 19 inch. Everything seemed clean and new, and the bed was the most comfortable I've slept in. My only complaint is that it was... more
Adequate, but not stellar!
My husband and I stayed at The Pierre for a week in September. The location, of course, is great. But I found the hotel a but "stuffy" and pretentious. I don't care for elevator operators (after all, if I can't push my own floor button, I should stay home!!). The room (jr suite) was very nice and spacious, but it was pricey. I would not stay there again. I would rather try a different hotel, or go back to my favorite--The Michaelangelo over on 51st and 7th Avenue.
There Are Many Betters Hotels for The Money
I love the location of this hotel. However, that's about it. I went for a quick overnight business trip, and wound up in a room not much bigger than a walk in closet. Although it was clean, and it was apparent that the hotel had tried to make it confom to Four Seasons standards, it is not even remotely close to say, the Four Seasons Chicago, or the Four Seasons Toronto, or other Four Seasons Hotels. Based upon my experience, this is, at best, a 3 star hotel. Frankly, given its wonderful location, they just need to gut the whole place... more
