Though the room was of good standard, it was quite small, and expensive. But at the end of the day you are overlooking Times Square. It was extremely difficult to find a table to have dinner at, and the biggest gripe of all would be the 15 minute wait for the high tech... more

Very well situated for all of New York’s attractions. The rooms are spacious and well furnished and very clean. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The hotel has excellent facilities and is really worth paying that little bit extra for. The hotels lifts are... more

Great Hotel I guess
Very nice hotel. Stayed there a while back. We were on the 26th floor, which was one of the newly renovated floors. Loved the atrium, it was so cool. Guest rooms were so nice, I loved the decoration. Next time, I will book a room on a lower floor (10-29), so I will be GUARENTEED a renovated room. Try to saty there again.
4 Star Rates Lobby, Elevators but not even 3 Star Rooms
I was extremely disappointed with the Marriott Marquis Times Square, expecting it to be as nice or nicer than the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Aside from a spectacular lobby and elevator set up, the room was extremely small, no notable extras to justify rate. It could have been any room in a 2 or 3 star motel/hotel if it wasn't for the view. The staff was nice and courteous until checkout. Checkout was by noon and we were waiting in line by 11:30. At 11:45, we were still waiting when we were told that we had to move to another floor, that a celebrity was checking in and needed the lobby clear. Mr. Timberlake took his good ol' time checking in and we were not allowed back in the lobby until after noon. And the hotel had the nerve to charge us for late check out. I and many other hotel guests had to argue with the staff that due to their "security measures" and special treatment to one guest, we could not check out on time. I had to finally send a letter to Marriott's corporate to get my late fee refunded.
Great room, Great location
I was a little nervous about the whole elevator situation I had read about, but my wife and I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes even during some of the busiest times. Our room was on the 22nd floor and was remodeled so it was very nice and comfortable. The beds were a little squishy but felt great after walking around the city all day. The hotel is right smack dab in the middle of Times Square so you can't beat the location. Its less than a 10 minute walk to Rockafeller Center, 2 minute walk to the subway, less than 5 minute walk to most Broadway shows, and great dining choices all around. We had a great experience and would definitely stay at the Marriott Marquis again.
Wonderful Stay!
Stayed at the Marriott Marquis from Jan. 21 thru Jan. 26. This was my first stay at this hotel and I booked through Priceline. The hotel was great. I requested rooms on a lower floor and was put on the 16th floor. Our rooms were recently renovated and very nice. I believe that rooms somewhere near the 25th floor and down have been renovated. I had read all the horror stories about the elevators, but had no problems with them at all. The most we ever waited was maybe three or four minutes. We ate the appetizer and dessert buffet at The View on top one night before the theater. It was very good. It was a little crowded, so go early if you are going to the theater. I hope to get this hotel again. It was a great trip.
Expecting More . . .
Having to stay here for a business event (we prefer smaller hotels), we thought the 'big city' fun of being in Times Square would be a nice change. We had a good view, and the hotel staff was helpful in organizing our multi-room reservation. We unfortunately were on the 34th floor--four floors above the newly remodeled rooms. When the other rooms had new furnature and decor, we were stuck in circa-1988; other rooms had new down duvets, we had a hotel standard blanket between two sheets. Housekeeping forgot to replace the bath towels after the first day, so it was drying off with washcloths while waiting for towels to arrive after already showering. And of all places--the lights and video advertising capitol of the world--our room blew a fuse when the iron and the hairdryer were plugged in! ALl our power went off and then it too 30 minutes for a hotel employee to come to our room to verify that we had no power. One radio call and the fuse was fixed--but why not fix the fuse on our report of it? To top things off, there wasn't a fan in the bathroom-so what ever happened in there stayed in there for a while . . . . ughhh! Hopefully they will address these problems for future guests. In the meantime, demand a room on a remodeled floor, or request a deeply discounted rate. It just wasn't right that we had to pay the same, if not more for rooms this outdated and used up.
Really enjoyed this hotel!
My mom and I returned from our first 4 day trip to New York City right before Christmas. The New York Marriott Marquis was a big part of what made our stay such an amazing and unforgettable experience. We stayed on the 17th floor and did not experience any problems with the elevators at all. The room was very spacious, the pillows were oh-so-soft. The bathroom looked very elegant and was constantly stocked with the toiletries we needed. The location was absolutely wonderful! Right smack in the middle of Times Square! We didn't go to any restaurants there, I'm sure they would have been pretty pricy, but we did enjoy the musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, in the Marquis Theatre, right in the hotel. We went to Broadway website and bought a 4 night stay with 2 tickets to Hairspray for about $1250 total. We only had to pay $8 at the end of our stay to cover the towels that the maids replenished each day. I would definitely recommend this hotel because of the location, and the spacious, comfortable rooms and I will definitely try to stay there again on my next trip!
What's up with the Elevators
Stayed during mid December 2003. City was packed with Christmas visitors. Second stay at the Marriott and it will be the last until they solve their elevator problems. 15-20 minute wait minimum for upward rides, 20+ for down rides. Hotel location excellent though. Right in the middle of the action. But for $350/night I expect less hassle just getting to and from my room.
Location is excellent
I visited for the weekend. The location is excellent, and the best part of the Marriott. Check-in was difficult. I requested non-smoking room, and there were none available at check in. It was well after five. I took the smoking room. The desk clerk advised me that they were clean, and really didn't smell. I was in for a rude awakening. Not only did the room and the linens smell, but I had a headache for the weekend, and the stench of smoke was all over are clothes. The room accomodations were unsatisfactory. The elevator is a whole new adventure.... give yourself at least a half hour to get on an elevator there. The elevator situation is insane. They offer no expanation at the Marriott. My rate is a thumbs down!!
Incredible; info on elevators
My daughter and I just returned from a wonderful trip to NYC in December, 2003. This is the best location in the theater district/Times Square area. As to the elevators, they are replacing them with state of the art elevators so this problem should be over with soon. My take on this "problem" is that they only have about 1/3 of the elevators available to the guests. This should speed up the installation of the new ones but it is hell on the guests at the present time. We stayed on the top floor, 45th, and once we got an elevator going down, it stopped at nearly every floor even though it was filled. This just delayed the trip down. It is express from 23 or so down but it was still frustrating. Going up from the lobby (on 8th floor) or from the street level, it is a dogfight just to get on as people just walk around you to cut in front of you. It was frustrating but still a wonderful stay.
Lights, big city, elevators.
Just returned from New York, and spent three nights here right after new year's. It is a massive hotel, and it is very clean and nicely polished. The location is impressive, if you like being constantly surrounded by tourists and crowds. Personally, I preferred being more downtown near Soho. The room was awesome - very large. The beds were comfy and the bathroom very clean. It was a very comfortable room. The elevators were a bit of a pain - very annoying at times because of the crowds of people going to the theater or going to the View lounge. This is why I did not like staying right in Times Square. We did not experience too much of a wait, no more than 5 minutes really. But we took the escalators if we were getting too impatient to avoid the 1-8 floor crowd. My favourite aspect of this hotel is it's 24 hour fitness center over looking Times Square. The machines are state of the art - and the view is great. I would stay there again just to work out! This hotel was fairly inexpensive - just use a "bid your own price" service to get a more reasonable rate.
