On arrival we picked up our car @ the airport. The guy was kind enough to give us a Alfa 147 JDI:) We just stayed at this hotel Oct 8-11. It was ok Although we had to pay 10 euros per person per night EXTRA!! Which I though was daylight robbery considering we had already paid for the room in the UK. I could understand if this was a 5 star Hilton or Intercontinental paying the extra amount. The breakfast was ok nothing special. The bartender was really helpful told us where the locals eat. We also found a restaurant called Da Fillippo (tel: 0818073796) a ten mins walk from Sorrento town square. Which was delish and cheap! The little village behind the hotel had a place to change currency, I got the BEST rate from there compared to Sorrento. Also drove to Solerno. If you going to stay at this hotel don't bother paying the extra 10 euros per person per night for a view room. Spend it on a meal instead!

Just back from two week holiday in Jaccarino with my wife and another couple and were surprised to see some negative comments about this hotel here since the staff could not have been more helpful and in particular we thought the staff in the reception area and restaurant (lead by excellent Luigi) were most helpful. Yes - we did hear the "dreaded" cockrel and the church bells, but certainly they didn't stop us from sleeping and in a way it added to the "flavour" of the place. We also saw some of the other rooms and they were small so if you do not book with a partial sea view (at least) you could end up facing the back of the hotel, but you do pay less for it so make your choice before you go since there may not be a possibility to upgrade when you arrive there. However, I would recommend this hotel to anybody and as proof this we are certainly going back next year.

This hotel has beautiful views from the Swimming Pool. The rooms are small but comfortable. Bed linen was changed frequently and the bed was comfortable. As with a large number of hotels, the bathroom floor gets flooded when you have a shower. The hotel staff were not particularly friendly and did not put themselves out. I asked for an early breakfast on the day I came home because I had to be ready for my coach to the airport at 7.00 a.m. They were supposed to open the door for me at 6.45 a.m. but did not do so until nearly 6.58 a.m. As a result I just had time for a mouthful of coffee and a tablespoonful of cereal. I was not very pleased. My biggest complaint concerns the food. It was always stone cold, despite me complaining to both the tour representative and hotel management. The packed breakfast I had one morning consisted of dried up sandwiches, a pear and two pastries. To use the courtesy bus it is necessary to book the bus the day before, which is not terribly convenient. It means that if you suddenly decide to return to the hotel on one of the late afternoon buses you risk not getting a seat. On one occasion I booked the bus and there was no seat for me. I ended up walking back to the hotel. The rooms do not have tea'coffee making facilities or hairdryers (some rooms do have hairdryers but mine did not). I would not recommend this hotel. Sorrento is a lovely area.
Great holiday at Jaccarino
from Roger,MK,2004
We have just returned from a week at the Jaccarino, and had a really nice holiday. Only trouble was that we needed more time to see all the sights. We had a room overlooking the pool and sea. The view was amazing across to Sorrento, the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. The room was perfectly large enough with a good bathroom (just a shower), and antique type furniture with plenty of storage space. Hotel staff were courteous and friendly, and we found the meals good with plenty of choice though some people complained it wasn't hot enough. The local wines from Sant Agata were good also. I did have a bit of trouble sleeping at night and the dogs did bark, though didnt find the cockeral a problem. We went to Pompei on the train from Sorrento, and recommend this rather than an organised trip as we were there for five hours and still didnt see it all. We would definately go back, but would make sure we got rooms at the front of the main block. There were other blocks there and I dont know what those rooms were like. One couple said they had a view of a brick wall.
Glorious week in Sorrento

Just arrived back from an excellent holiday at the Jaccarino hotel, fixed up at the last minute through Thomson. The hotel was excellent, with very helpful staff at all times and the whole premises was kept spotlessly clean. There was good variety of food at both breakfast and evening meal and an excellent choice of wines. Would recommend 'upgrading' to a room with a balcony view, its worth the slight extra charge! The view over the Bay of Sorrento is worth the visit alone and we found staying outside the town a bonus. The hotel's courtesy bus meant that you had ample opportunity of visiting Sorrento. The local bus service was also very good (only cost 1 Euro!) Yes, they do not accept credit/debit cards, but there is a cash machine in the local village of St Agata, just a short walk away. Highly recommend this hotel and the package of visits that Thomson offer during the stay.
Fantastic hotel, with great food, friendly staff and the most amazing views!

Before my husband and I flew out to Sorrento (16/07/04) I had a few doubts about the hotel Jaccarino as I had read the bad reviews posted on this site. Well I think we must have stayed at a different hotel because when we arrived at the beautiful hotel all our doubts were blown away. The hotel is amazing, it is very impressive when you walk in, marbled stairs etc, the rooms may be small (we didn't have a balcony and backed on to the supposidly 'noisy road' which wasn't actually that noisy, the odd mopped (which cannot be avoided in Italy) and locals chatting and that was it). Our room may have been small but it was very comfortable and clean, with a full bathroom. The staff are very friendly and are willing to help you with the lingo! The breakfast is your typical continental breakfast, fruit (melon/prunes), bread, rolls, cereals, ham, cheese, jams, pastries and eggs. I know some people found the breakfast poor but to be honest what else could you of had other than 'a full english', which you wouldn't have every day at home anyway! Dinner is a selection of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts all which are very good. We also read about the sharing of tables at dinner, which didn't happen to us or any other of the couples in the hotel, infact there were many tables already set up for 2 people, but if you are worried just get down to dinner early (7-7.30ish). The views from the hotel are absolutely stunning (you look over Sorrento and out across to the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius) it is very peaceful and tranquil, and yes you get the odd dog barking and a cockeral but it isn't contious and hey it just adds to the charm of the place. You must remember that you are staying in a working village, it is not a dedicated tourist area which is why it is so rustic and beautiful. We loved the hotel and will be back again to have a relaxing thouroughly enjoyable holiday. And for all those who read the bad reviews just make up your own mind when you get there!

Just outside Sorrento on the hillside, Hotel Jaccarino (rated 3* by Thompson) offers some outstanding views over Sorrento and Vesuvious. Our room was a fair size with lots of storage facilities and was decorated in quaint villa style with balcony. It's best to ask for a room with a sea view and balcony as these appear to be the bigger rooms! Lots of steps so definitely not for the immobile. Hotel itself is impeccibly clean with spacious terrace bar and lounging facilities. We found the hotel staff to be extremely friendly and helpful - especially in terms of local knowledge. The free hotel bus is available to take you into Sorrento up until 1700, but you can catch the local bus from outside the hotel up until midnight, which we found very prompt and snip at €1. Forget taxis as they are very expensive!! Did hear some dogs and the infamous cockerel but not to an annoying degree, if anything they added to the flavour of the holiday. Hotel food in the evening is ok with a choice of 4 starters / main meal each evening, breakfast is pretty poor. Waiting staff are very friendly. If you are a couple, be aware that they try to put couples on tables with other couples to use spaces!! Pool is a fair size with fantastic views. St Agata, a small Italian local village, is just round the corner and offers some culinery delights at great value!! Would recommend anyone to stay at the Jaccarino!!

I have recently returned from a trip to Sorrento, and had the pleasure of staying at the Jaccarino for a seven-night stay. After reading a lot of the other reviews on this page, I can certainly agree with a lot of the points that have been mentioned - my wife and I went along to spend some well deserved quality time together, and I do feel the Jaccarino prefers you to "mingle" with the other guests at mealtimes (Although my wife and I managed to hijack one of the very few two seater tables most nights - if you go to the Jaccarino and want to do the same - get yourself down to the Dining Area at 7pm prompt, then you will have a choice of table!) The food served in the restaurant area is of a high standard, our only surprise was ordering the "mixed grill" one night, and being served several different chunks of meat..... On a skewer! Apart from this, the restaurant is worth a visit when you are staying at this hotel (Just make sure you get to the dining area promptly for 7pm if you want to bag yourself a table for two!). Our particular room was okay for the duration of our stay - yes, it was a wee bit on the small side, but we were lucky to land a 1st floor room with a balcony, with views overlooking the nearby hills & village, so this more than made up for the lack of space. The Jaccarino family have however, put a lot of work into this hotel - the reception/ lounge/ bar/ restaurant areas are immaculate, and there has been a great deal of attention paid to decor, to create a relaxing atmosphere. All staff in the Jaccarino are extremely pleasant and helpful with guests - my only gripe with the service is that my wife and I went to settle our bar bill on the last night, armed with my trusty VISA card... We were promptly told by reception that the hotel does not accept VISA, so we then had no option but to start wandering the streets of Sorrento for a Cashpoint. One to remember - when you go to settle up your bill, go prepared with a wad of Euro's - it will save you a walk round the local streets! I had to smile to myself while reading the previous reviews regarding the Jaccarino, as I too certainly had "issues" with the local dogs / cockerels / church bells during the night!.... And I am sure that other people who have stayed at the Jaccarino will be nodding their head while reading this, in agreement! However... This is nothing that a good dose of Limoncello (The local speciality drink) won't cure.... At 30%, a couple of glasses of that, and you won't hear a thing! The hotel itself is situated on the outskirts of Sorrento, up in the hills. The bar patio area has fantastic views of the surrounding area, the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius can be seen quite clearly. Although the hotel is quite far away from Sorrento town centre, the hotel do offer an excellent courtesy bus service, to take guests to/from Sorrento town. There is also a public bus stop just outside the hotel - details of the bus service times can be provided by the Jaccarino reception (And at 1.60 Euro's for a weekend return ticket into Sorrento, this is considerably cheaper than the local taxis - we got talking to a couple who were charged the best part of 30 Euro's for a fare from Sorrento Harbour to the Jaccarino) All in all, the Jaccarino family have created a fairly relaxing atmosphere at this hotel, and I know that if I was staying in the Sorrento area in future, I would definitely consider another stay here. Great View!!!

Just back from Jaccarino, 5th July. Great little hotel although the rooms are a bit small. Hotel staff were really good when we complained and gave us choice of three further rooms. Food is o.k.but a bit dull. All staff really helpful, great views, and good facilites on village. Very helpfull with bus/taxi timetables, free bus to and from Sorrento several times each day. Yes there is a cockeral, but not always noisey and depends on which side of the hotel you stay in. No worse than any you may find in u.k. Occasional dog barking but not disruptive. An excellent place to stay, and great area with lots to see & do. Check out Positano around the coast, go by boat!

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in July as part of a weeks package including three nights in Rome - the holiday cost £2300 for the week. Both hotels we stayed in were four star but both were very different. The hotel Jaccarino has fantastic views and a nice lobby... more
