Decent, but could use improvement
Priceline picked HoJo in Woodside for me. Check-in was a breeze, but they gave me a smoking room. When I asked for a non-smoking room, I was told there were none left, but then the guy behind me walked in off the street, asked for a room, and the manager proceeded to offer him a non-smoking room. The room itself was pretty clean and everything was functional. It's a little small by Western U.S. standards, but for NYC it's not a bad size for a low-budget place--and unlike many low-budget places in NYC, it doesn't appear to be falling... more
Loved the room & service!
Well first of all this motel is great ! the service was awesome, at the front desk when we walked in we were greeted very friendly, the guy at the front desk actually got up and walked us to the room to show us what he had left for the night and he gave us all the features& ameniteies. Then he let my friend stay in the room while i went up stairs and payed for the room! can u believe that! The next day he actually called to the room and asked me if we needed anything, he even brought me an extra blanket. I would recommend to everyone if your... more
Comfortable and convenient
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and found it a very convenient place to stay when visiting New York city. It is 10 minutes walk from subway station. The hotel also has a small parking lot or you can park on the street right in front of the hotel. The rooms were very well maintained. Air conditioner worked perfectly. They offered a decent complimentary breakfast. We could not have asked for a better place.
In NY all you need is a clean bed!!
Second time staying here. My room was much smaller than the first time but when ever I go to New York the only time I spend in my room is sleeping. I have to say that it is considerably cheaper than a hotel in Manhattan and it's about a 20-30 minute subway ride. The subway is 5 minutes away and the neighborhood is completely safe, consisting of semi and attached houses. The first time I stayed there, there were no complaints. This time around the room was a little stuffy and needed an airing out. Other than that it had all the... more
Ok but basc
I stayed at this hotel on feb 14th just for one night. firstly the location is ok. the subway about 10-15 min walk if you find it. theres a couple of places around woodside. the hotels check in time is 2pm, we arrived at 5.30/6pm and were told upon arrival that our room was still not ready, i was quite annoyed by this as i was sick at the time. we were put up in a standard smoking room, we had booked a non smoking king size room, and were told he would call us when our room was ready. about 15mins later we were told that our room was ready... more
Good overall
The hotel is basic, but clean. It has a small reception, but all the facilities you need. There is a small breakfast provided in the morning, cereal, muttin, tea/coffee/juice, finishes at 10a.m. The room we had was clean, but small. We had a kingsize bed, and there wasn't much more room left over. The ensuite was clean and again compact, but this is reflected in the competitive price. The subway is a 10min walk away at most, and the 7 train takes you right into Time Square in 20 mins or so. I'd stay here again if I were in... more
If you don't like cold showers, avoid it!
Ok, so it was a last minute booking, so my husband and I didn't expect much. Rooms were small, but contained all the basics. The king bed was great, the linen wasn't. We ran out of hot water (and there was very low water pressure) on 3 of the 5 days we stayed there. The staff were slow, unfriendly and maybe uttered 4 words to us our entire stay. Breakfast ok, rooms could be cleaner, was noisy at night (other guests) as the walls were paper thin. We could've done better on the final stretch of our 3 city holiday. Pay more, get more!... more
I enjoyed the Howard Johnson
I stayed at this hotel for five days and found it to have all the amenities it claims to have. It was a big room for one person. It had a huge bed, a dressing table and TV cabinet. Behind the door there was a rail and hangers for clothes. The bathroom had a bath/shower, which I liked as I do like to have a shower every morning and usually on returning to the hotel at the end of a sticky day. There was always loads of hot water and the towels were changed every day and the bin emptied. There was a hair dryer, iron/ironing board, a... more
You get what you pay for
This hotel is very inexpensive, compared to hotels in Manhattan. However, the rooms are extremely small (not much bigger than a large walk-in closet). Speaking of closets, the rooms do not have one--not even a place to hang your coat. I ended up having to hang my jacket on the hook on the bathroom door. Be forewarned that the walls here are thin, in case you are sensitive to noise or if you will be having intimate conversations during your stay. There is free parking in the lot behind the hotel, but there are only a handful of... more
New Year Cheers for Howard Johnson's
My mother and I enjoyed our stay at the Howard Johnson Express Inn in Queens from 29-Dec-2003 to 30-Dec-2003. With most Manhattan hotels booked for the New Year's festivities, we wanted to explore options in the surrounding boroughs. Highlights: The Howard Johnson Express Inn offered quality service for a budget price; the clean room cost less than $100 USD/ night with two double beds, a full bathroom, a color television, phone, iron & ironing board, alarm clock, coffeemaker, hairdryer, and other standard amenities. The staff were... more
