a very good holiday spoilt only by flight delays.paphos is a really vibrant resort with plenty of restaurants.although prices to be higher than in spain.plenty of history and you can get really close to ruins.
mayfair hotel was just as expected and was value for money.staff really friendly and nothing was too much trouble.food in restaurant was acceptable although choice for children could have been better.would recommend the chefs freshly made omelettes at breakfast.rooms were clean and towels and linen changed regularly.
only fault is minor-management should clamp down on those guests who disregarded written request not to reserve sunbeds with towels.
would use hotel again but not through thmas cook due to continually delayed flights.

After reading alot of terrible reviews for this hotel I was very nervous of what we had let ourselves in for. I needn't of worried.
There were 11 of us in our party occupying 3 rooms. We had asked for pool views but on arrival found that only 1 of the rooms had the view requested. This was sorted promptly the next morning and we were relocated to rooms overlooking the complex and pool instead of a local park and flats.
I found the staff to always be helpful.
Service was excellent. One day we had an awful smell in the bathroom (like someone had died). As soon as service had been in the smell had gone and the bathroom was spotless. The linens in the rooms are getting a little tired and if changed would really lift the appearance. We never encountered any cockroaches in the apartment (only on the stairwells). The aircon units were rather noisy though with the outlet fans located on the floor of the balcony, which was a nuisance.
The food we thought was excellent. A good variety everynight with something for everyone. Breakfast could of been a bit more varied though, chef happy to make you omlettes til the cows came home.
Prices at the bar were a little high but easier for us than traipsing out every night.
The hotel entertainment is good especially if you like getting involved. Best nights were when Leighton was in the building, no cheating went on at Kids party then.
All in all an excellent holiday enjoyed by all 11 of us.

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Mayfair, myself partner and 2 children. After reading some of the reviews I was worried about going! As soon as we arrived my worries went....we had a decent apartment over looking the pool, perfect, i can however understand how some guests would be unhappy with the view if they had a room overlooking the flats behind the hotel, but we were only in our apartment to sleep and shower!
The pools were great and the areas around the pools and the gardens were kept very clean and tidy, the gardner was pottering about every day.
The hotel food was abit basic, although there was a very good variety each evening, and we upgraded to All Inclusive for our final 4 days which was a great idea, and very good value for money, especially for the children.
The entertainment staff were great, always around, and entertaining both adults and children morning, afternoon and evening.
The bar prices were alittle expensive, but there were a couple of supermarkets close by to stock up your fridge.
All in all we had a great holiday, you get what you pay for at the end of the day, so don't go expecting a 5 star hotel when you pay for a 3 star!
I would definately go back to the Mayfair.

As soon as we arrived I had to go out...

Jul 2008, Mrs R R

As soon as we arrived I had to go out and buy some detergent and clean the bathroom ,it was still full of"hair" of the previous guests.
I had to clean the wardrobe too as I 've never seen a wardrobe so dirty and the room was full of cockroaches .The bed sheets were too small to cover the beds ( ridicolous) and full of holes. The towels were dirty .We tried to complain at reception but the staff ( except for George ) is VERY rude and lazy. I needed the fridge to put some medicines in it and I had to pay 16 Euros per week ( never heard before in another hotel).
The pools areas are dirty and we saw a lot of mice around.
The hotel bars are expensive infact we paid much less for the same drinks and food in other bars in tourist places!!!!
If you can don't go to the hotel restaurant : the food has no flavour and they serve the food left from the day before ,heat and re heat!!!!It's horrible!!
I met a few people there and they were all disappointed by the hotel.everyday at reception there were people complaining and the hotel area is not one of the best in town as the police arrived 3 times in 10 days for problems happened at the hotel.
Even if we were half board we could not stand the hotel food longer and we went out for dinner for all the rest of the holiday.
We have traveled a lot and stayed in one star hotels or went camping but belive me I have never seen nothing like this hotel. It should be one star not 3!!!!
The lift was always broken and during our last day there ,3 people were stuck in the lift for a few hours!!!!
Our room's view was on a parking but we have been lucky as some other people showed us their views : on a block of flats .The flats are so closed the hotel that the hotel guests have to keep their curtains closed all the time as there are people on the balconies in the flats keeping an eye on the rooms: we heard about a few burglar in the rooms.
Please don't go there!!!!!

We loved this hotel, the meals were lovely, the rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly. The only thing was that we had a way to walk to the town, but it was cheap to get a bus or taxi we soon found out. There are many pools to choose from and they all were very clean. The meals were lovely and there was a good choice. The kids entertainment at night was quite good, but was not to good for the adults. We would definately return.

Well what can i say....after reading...

Jun 2008, Mrs J Hayler

Well what can i say....after reading some of the reviews about this hotel before i went on holiday i was horrified to the point i rang Tompsons and asked to change my hotel but was told that it was good hotel and it would cost me to change, so off i went not sure about what i was going to find i did not dare tell my husband about the reviews i had read he would not have even boarded the plane had he known so i kept what i knew to my self, when we arrived we opened aour room door and i was relieved it was fine i opened the curtains that looked out onto the back of some shops and flats but so what we are on holiday and as it was quiet i was relived as i did not want a room that you could hear all sorts of noise in the early hours of the morning as i have a son age 5yrs old and he is a light sleeper. Whoever wrote the previous report must have got the wrong hotel!!!
The pools around the hotel were fab very clean, the food at the Dolphin bar was 1st class and not expensive infact 1 meal in a tray was enough for myself and my son so bargain!! think it was 5.50euros ice creams were 2euros but there are shops down the raod and you get one for half the price also a very good bakery come supermarket if you go out the hotel and turn left to the road then left again past the 1st bakery then it is the 2nd one with lage windows 2 sandwiches a cheese onion pasty and huge bag crisps was 4 euros which was great.
Hotel entertainment was not for us although if you like that sort of thing you will be ok bingo and stuff not for us.
Dont use Mayfair Taxis on the corner we wanted to go to Tomb of the Kings, unaware of how far it was the taxi took us the long way round although it took less than 5mins and charged us 10euros!!! we walked back which took us 15mins so be warned.
We ate out every night which was expensive we went to a place nr Tomb of the Kings called Thomas Jungle you have to go there the food is fab and the potions are huge and the price is cheap infact the cheapest meal we have had there service is good too so do yoourselves a favour it is on the same side as Big Mammas (right hand side going back towards the Harbour) Thomas Jungle is tiny further down it has palm trees with stuffed tigers on them.
We hired a jeep from the rep for 2 days for 170euros but it was worth it as we went to the Troudos Mountains and Baths of Aphrodite and the views were excellent.

Just come back from a two week stay...

Jun 2008, Mrs J Stocks

Just come back from a two week stay at the Mayfair. After reading the reviews on here, I was a bit sceptical about what it may be like. I would say i was pleasently suprised.
We had a one bedroom apartment which overlooked the pool and from which we could see the hotel entertainment in the bar area.
I can appreciate if you were the other side of the hotel you would be looking over the residential area which would not have been as nice.
The hotel was very clean and the pools excellent. All staff were very friendly, entertainment fantastic, especially for the kids. The kids entertainers really put the most into their job.
The bar was reasonably priced, although the service was a little slow at times.
A fantastic pub only five minutes away called the Full Moon, where the food and drinks good and the staff very friendly.
Also only a ten minute walk into bar Street where there was lots of choice of restaurants and only a 15 minute walk to the harbour.
Overall a fantastic time had by all my family and we would definately return.

This is a fantastic place to visit. Reception staff are friendly and very helpful. Food Fantastic. Accomodation clean and comfortable. Entertainment varied and good! Excellent base for seeing this interesting island! Dont hire a taxi - very expensive! buses run regularly and are cheap! water park was a very expensive day out. If i had beleived the reviews some miserable moaners had put on this site I wouldnt of booked this resort! some people just like to moan - do they live in luxury at home? Looking forward to visiting Cyprus again next year!

just to point out if you call a taxi ride a 2-3 minute walk the person who wrote the first review must be very lazy....
on arrival 14th may 2008 with my party of 6 (2 adults and 4 children ,including an 11 month old ) i found the hotel an excellent choice.
i paid £1700 for our holiday which i thought was very cheap.
on arrival i found the reception air conditioned, the staff very ,very helpful.the two bedroomed appartment was quite basic but very clean.although we didnt have much of a view from our balcony we didnt spend a lot of time on it.the hotels pools were very clean all 5 of them.
the staff were all very friendly ,and very helpful.
the nightly entertainment was great for the kids and adults.
the only down side was the car drivers in paphos would park anywhere up on the kerb,so if you have a pushchair you have to walk around the car via the road.
all in all an excellent hotel and an excellent place to spend you holiday.
i would rate the mayfair 10/10

I booked this holiday after reading...
6 / 10
May 2008, Miss C Lewis

I booked this holiday after reading that it was very close to shops bars resturants, that is had a gym that was open and had 2 swimming pools a wirl pool and a poolside bar.
When I got to the hotel I noticed that there were no shops bars or resturants close by but at least a taxi ride away. I wanted to go to the gym one day and it was closed. When reception staff was asked when it would open they said it was an independent company that ran it and they didnt know when the person would be in, this ran on for a few days. I took a walk around the grounds of the hotel to find the other pool and came across an empty pool and wirl pool, the poolside bar was closed all holiday.
I was not advised by the reception staff where breakfast lunch and dinner would be when I arrived I had to ask and when the staff replied they were very non-chalant flicking a hand aiming at the direction of where the dining room was.
The other issue was bottled water.................ALL INCLUSIVE I had to pay for bottled water. I have NEVER been on an all inclusive holiday where I had to pay for a bottle of water or only offered a cup of water whenever I was thirsty and to be ridiculously offered tap water on my first day.
However, the waiting and bar staff were impeccable they done everything aboslutly right as far as I am concerned, very friendly and very helpful. The cleaning staff kept the hotel to a superb standard of cleaniness and the rooms were spotless everyday.
I would of given this hotel a high mark if it hadnt been for the the managment and reception staff who I think need more training in people skills and communication.

May 2008, Ms Z Corbett

We went as a family of five and booked a two bedroomed apartment ,which we needed due to our family situation. This was also expensive. On arrival we were told this apartment did not exist, even though I had e-mailed the hotel direct to make sure. We had two rooms together opposite the pool, however once inside it was tired and smelly(being kind). Outside the window at the back we had a dumped car and piles of rubbish so we could not even open the window. Next to this was a building site. We were shown alternative accommodation but it was just as bad or worse. The main pool was empty and the alternatives were cold(even inside) and had badly cracked shower tray , there was nothing for the children except a broken table tennis table surrounded by building equipment. There was dangerous equiptment everywhere and only a length of tape separating the closed off part of the hotel. This hotel should not have been opened to families.Thomas Cook told us it had been refurbished and was closed over Christmas in order that it would be ready. We asked to be transfered and were moved within two days. However the new hotel was not what we would have chosen but at least we were away from The Mayfair.
I must add the food was good and the staff excellant and I felt sorry for them being put in such a dreadful situation.
