I admit I have been to nicer 5star...
8 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss S Lawrence

I admit I have been to nicer 5star hotels in Sharm but I much preferred the ambience of this hotel. It was close enough to Naama Bay that you could go in each evening without it costing too much. All food I ate I found to be well cooked and very tasty although the fries could have done with a few more minutes.
I found the Animation Team very friendly, Alex was good fun and Maro (who replaced Sam) was lovely. I have gone to a different hotel each time I've visited Sharm but I will definitely be returning to the Cleopatra. If there was one criticism it was the cleaners, when it got to my 2nd week they knocked every day in the hope of a tip and also various staff would ask as they were going on holiday, but no-one ever seemed to go anywhere.
All in all I would highly recommend this hotel, yes its basic, but its clean and at the end of the day you get what you pay for, if you want 5star luxury you pay 5star prices.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks...
10 / 10
Jul 2006, Ms M Heaton

I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks 2005 end of Sep /beg of Oct and had a fantastic time. I originally booked half-board but upgraded to all inclusive when I arrived for only £10 a day. I went on my own and was a bit nervous as I am in my early 50s but I shouldn't have worried as all the hotel staff made my holiday superb. I also made loads of friends with other guests (mostly much younger than me) who just sort of swept me up into their plans.
The hotel is not as grand as some of the others in Sharm el Sheikh but its very clean, well laid out and has great staff. Twice during my stay, Mohammad (the young man who cleaned my room) arranged my clean towels into beautiful swan and flower shapes on my bed, and then decorated them with fresh flowers. I've never seen anything like it. The pool guy, H, was very friendly and every morning he reserved for me a well-placed sunbed with fresh towels. He had recently married a British woman and was waiting on his visa to move to Britain, so enjoyed chatting in English to all the guests. The entertainment was superb and varied and I eventually joined in with everything, including the karaoke. I even managed to join a game of pool volleyball halfway through my stay and enjoyed it so much that I became a daily stalwart. The buoyancy of the water more than made up for my age.
I found the food to be excellent, at the right temperature and well cooked. Like most hotels around the world, they cater well for British folk who are not renowned for being very adventurous so there is always fried chicken, burgers, chips, pasta, etc on the menu, but they also put on lots of wonderful local dishes as well as themed nights, Italian, Chinese and Greek, which was much more to my taste. All of their fish dishes were amazing, especially the swordfish. I especially loved the cold buffet where there was a great mix of humus, aubergine dip, tsasiki, tahini and other local salads. I also adored the breakfasts every morning - it was very hard not to overstuff my self every morning with juice, fruit, omelette, bread and croissants or other sweet pastries.
The intention was to chill out big time and not do much other than eat, sunbathe and sleep. However, I took the day trip flight to Cairo, which is hot, busy and noisy but totally worth it for the pyramids and the sphinx! You really don't appreciate their sheer size and majesty until you are standing next to them! As well as having lunch, the trip included a visit to the Mosque, the Cairo Museum, a papyrus shop, a jewellers and a local perfume shop. All of these were totally amazing, especially the mosque. This trip cost about £130 and involved a very long day (6am to 11pm) but was totally worth it. I also took a day trip out to the fantastic Ras Mohammed National Park on a beautiful wooden Turkish gullet and tried snorkelling for the first time. It was another fantastic trip and only cost about £30 for the whole day, including a fabulous lunch. Again the staff were hugely helpful and really friendly. Another day I went out in a glass bottom boat for a couple of hours and did more snorkelling for only £10. I had a wonderful full body massage at the beach in Naama Bay for £10 and the following week the hotel's hairdresser gave me a manicure and pedicure, and included a facial and a Swedish-style massage of my arms, legs and shoulders for just £10. I also went out a couple of nights with other guests for dinner in Naama Bay. So I spent a bit more than I had intended but what memories I've got.
The Egyptian people are very friendly and always prepared to help you. They are very proud of their country and everyone, from the hotel staff, to the taxi-drivers to the shopkeepers in Naama Bay treated me as a very special person.

I could go on and on about my stay and how much I adored it. Suffice to say I have booked another 2 week stay At the Cleopatra for this Sep/Oct! Roll on September 19th.

We went here in April for 2 weeks and...
7 / 10
May 2006, Mr M Parker

We went here in April for 2 weeks and had a good holiday. I'll list the good and bad points of the hotel:
Bad:
1. Food - we had upset stomachs the second week, not sure if it was the food but they could have rotated the meals a bit better - every second day it was the same food as before. Breakfasts were a bit of a mish-mash, stick to having an orange or banana.
2. Rooms - some of the rooms are a bit basic, with dodgy front door locks and simple furniture.
3. Entertainment - you'll get sick of hearing Alex shouting 'volleyball' every two seconds - he tries his best to entertain but no-one really wants to do anything. Loud music is played every night, sometimes up until 2AM - don't go expecting a quiet hotel as you cannot sleep until it is finished.
Good:
1. Staff - generally staff are friendly, especially Ashraf, but they have low morale due to the new owners of the hotel being stingy.
2. Location - handy for the local Naama bay and a couple of beaches. Kind of desolate round about though, and a few hotels being built next door.
3. Pool/Sunbathing - lots of loungers and a decent pool.
Don't go expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel - it's more like a 2/3 star! If you want a cheap holiday with a few frills then by all means go to this hotel - next time we will spend that little bit more to upgrade to a better one, but it was still a good experience!

I have stayed in better camping sites...
1 / 10
May 2006, P Hall

I have stayed in better camping sites than this place.
The staff were allowed to say as they pleased to holiday makers and were of the opinion that they were always right. Everything was broken. Everybody had food poisoning as food was reheated over and over again. Outside food or water were not allowed to be taken into the hotel, even though we were all inclusive. If you weren’t all inclusive they were charging 80p for a bottle of water when you could get it for 15p from the shop.
Don’t get the taxis form hotel. They take you to the wrong places and don’t speak English and charge more than the ones on the street.
The beach at the end of the road is supposed to be free for residents but they charge. Entertainment is disgusting with a bad sound system that is so very loud and YMCA and we are the champions repeated and repeated. The entertainment staff if they can call themselves that, Sam and Alex don’t know when to entertain and when not to, it was like a rubbish version of Butlins, bingo and karaoke every night.
This hotel doesn’t deserves any stars I have no idea how it got 4. Cleaners left my balcony doors open and I had everything stolen from my room and the staff didn’t want to know neither did the rep who never showed up the fortnight I was there. It was the holiday from hell and I need another to get over it. Please do not go to this hotel, pay the extra and go to the Hilton where the prices are much cheaper.

Hi guys, I travel a lot, backpacking...
4 / 10
Jan 2006, Mr F Frank

Hi guys,
I travel a lot, backpacking style most of the time. If you travel by backpack / youth-hostel style - then this place is fine. If you are used to staying in 4 star hotels in Switzerland then stay far away! This is NOT your average 4 Star Hotel (I paid 50quid a week - that’s cheaper than most youth-hostels anyway! - teletextholidays.com)
Like the previous bloke said - you get what you pay for. Facilities are basic - to be honest I have stayed in unstarred youth hostels that provided more luxuries than this hotel, but it was acceptable for the price!
The bad bits:
We had a room on the second floor right next to the kitchen's roof. Next to our window, within a couple of metres, was the extraction fans for the bakery (we only learned the true use for it later) which had bearing problems and made an awful racket 24/7. After numerous complaints and empty promises we got moved to a quieter area 4 days later!
They had problems with their hot water system, so our first room had none, neither did the people next door. This improved somewhat once we were moved. Our new neighbours had it a bit worse as they had a burst in the water pipes in their wall, with water rushing through the tiles, so we considered ourselves lucky.
Breakfast consisted of a buffet which was a bit dire, there was the option of omelettes, but these were made by a poor dude who had a portable hotplate with 2 plates only. So you can imagine the waiting time if you wanted any.
Lastly halfway through our stay, the hotel changed their rules and stuck a notice up stating you are not allowed any beverages from outside onto the hotel grounds. These were confiscated by security at the front door, and returned once you left the grounds again. A bit of a bummer if you came back from the beach with some Cola in your backpack etc. You had to buy some from the bar instead.
There were constantly people at the front desk complaining about items added to their bills which they knew nothing about etc, but we had no such problems.
The Good Bits:
The hotel is located within walking distance of some shops and entertainment centre called Fantasia. I never paid more than 50p for a taxi to get there, but I had to haggle. The show there is worth while seeing, especially if you like horses!
The hotel is also within walking distance of an excellent diving shop called Xaloc. If you walk towards Fantasia, cross the road by the Hilton, you will see their sign on a dust road toward the beach just the other side of it! These guys had the best prices by far and also made for excellent entertainment.
Also within close range is the Sheik Abdullah supermarket with a deli next to it which had the best food we could find in 2 weeks time! Surprisingly it was also the cheapest, this was pointed out by the diving staff and came in really handy!
The hotel staff were really friendly especially the bloke on night staff.
The hotel rep offered some excursions etc, but we found these pricey and non negotiable, there is a 'travel agent' in the hotel which proved much better.
So to sum it all up, I'd say it's a good deal for the price, don't expect 4star treatment though. The diving is the best I'd go again just for the diving, Cairo is a bit overrated, Luxor was much more interesting. Go quad-biking in the desert, great fun.

This hotel was absolutely disgusting....
1 / 10
Jan 2006, Mrs J Wright

This hotel was absolutely disgusting. We arrived at 21:30 Christmas Day to a buffet that was inedible and it got worse from there. The food was constantly surrounded by flies and insects and reheated time after time. I even found dead flies in my food and was told it was chicken!!
Cold showers and for two days no water to flush toilets. The security of the rooms was virtually non existent as the catches on the doors were worn out. The furniture belonged on a tip it was that old. The all inclusive drinks was either warm or out of stock, no diabetic drinks available. My Husband was in bed for two days with food poisoning.
We have never been on holiday before were the topic of conversation was who was ill next. Most of the pool furniture was broken. New Years Eve was an absolute disaster (for more info contact me).
Disco was not opened at all. No floodlit tennis courts, Garden views a building site, music very loud from dawn till dusk, stinking bathrooms constant smell of sewage. All the rep could do was apologise as we were sold this holiday as a four star and it didn't even make a 2 star.
The only thing that made our stay memorable was some of the friendly staff and the lovely people we met. Sharm is a brilliant place with friendly people but our advice is to avoid this hotel at all costs.

We stayed for a week straight after...
7 / 10
Jan 2006, Mr A Bloggs

We stayed for a week straight after New years.
The hotel is basic, but clean. You get what pay for here. If you want 5 star treatment, fork out the extra cash and go and stay in a 5 star hotel. Don’t whinge about it when you get there, like so many other people where doing when we was there. They told the rep, who asked, `Does the air conditioning work?` they replied `Yes`. `Is the bed broken?`, they said `no`, what more could he do? I think they was expecting a centre page of the Ikea catalogue in there room. As you can probably tell, these people wound me up!
Anyway, It is probably about 2 to 3 stars. The Egyptians consider offering you a room is 1 star, HB a star, FB a star and AI as a star, therefore they think that this hotel is a 4 star, its not, but just look at the price you are paying for it! We went All inclusive and really couldn’t pick any major faults. The food was good, cooked and always on time and in plentiful supply. The drinks where all very good. The entertainment they laid on was great every night and they have 2 blokes that’s job it is, is trying to get people involved in various activities during the day and if you don’t want to do anything just say and they don’t push you!
Don’t pay extra for any nice views out of your balcony, there isn’t any, but saying that, there isn’t any horrible ones either, just no beach (its 500m away!) or pool views.
All the taxis are generally the same price. If you cant be bothered with all the haggling, it will cost you about £2.50 to get into town, which isn’t bad as its quite a way. This I found was a good thing, as I personally wasn’t too keen on the Naama Bay area. The people are far to pushy and hassle you alot. I’ve travelled alot and around Africa and I have never been hassled so much in my life, it puts Cairo to shame!!!!
Sharm El Sheikh is the Blackpool of Egpyt. It was built for one thing and thats tourism. And it gives you everything you want, if your used to going to Spain and want to tell people you have been to Egypt, then this is the place! Trust me, soon there will be 'Sharon and Trev`s Bar, Welcoming you from Southend', offering 'Home cooked Sunday roasts' and 'English breakfasts, with Real English Danish bacon'! It costs you to go on the beach, unless your hotel has bought a chunk of it! Its not much, but some things you normally take for granted.
If you want a chilled out holiday, get a good hotel and stay in it. The diving is out of this world, but it is a bit pricey. But if your going there for culture and to see how the Egyptians live, then don’t go, you will be totally disappointed!
I have made small gripes, sound like major failings. I and my girlfriend had a brilliant time there. I would recommend people to go there, but i would warn them of what to expect. Its a growing tourist resort, it will take years to complete, so don’t go not expecting to hear the odd drill or digger. And see numerous building sites. There’s hundreds.
Chill out and enjoy what’s there. For one thing, the hotel staff will fight over themselves to help you if they think there is a small tip in it for them, as will any worker there.

We booked a holiday 7 days at the...

Jan 2006, Mr N Jaman

We booked a holiday 7 days at the Cleopatra resort, once we arrived had problems checking in, reception was very unhelpful, overall if you were looking for a 4 star, i would not say that this 4 star, more like a 2 star, we got clean towels everyday, the waiters were very nice and helpful, do not buy anything from the hotel shops as they were very over priced, as 3 times more than Naama bay.
The only good comment i can make is that the waiters once again are marvellous, the hotel taxi's charge more then the taxi's on the street as they have to pay additional rent, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as this will spoil your holiday, I found that the hotel balcony doors were not very secure and also my room door was left open on a few occasions after cleaning. One main point i would like to note that their is building work going on behind this hotel, which causes alot noise from 8am in the morning and smell from drainage.
There are many hotels around the area that are much better, ones to avoid are Cleopatra, sunrise hotel.

We stayed for a week at Cleopatra and...
6 / 10
Sep 2005, Mr WJ Harrison

We stayed for a week at Cleopatra and were generally very pleased with its facilities and services.
It's located a few km from the main resorts like Naama Bay and Sharks Bay so you need a taxi really to go anywhere but they are in plentiful supply and cheap (Only use the government approved blue and white ones). Also, the Sharm Reef Beach is a 5 min walk away and is really good for snorkelling or relaxing.
Although the hotel is satisfactory, I would not recommend going all inc. We went B&B and were glad we did because there’s not much to do in the hotel apart from sit by the pool. There are some worn out pool tables and the entertainer guys do their best but I think it gets boring. Also, from what I heard drinks are not included after midnight. I would recommend going B&B and eating out at the absolutely brilliant, and very cheap Naama Bay or the Old Market which is about £1 taxi from Cleopatra. Afterwards, you will realise how expensive food and drinks are at the hotel. Make the most of your holiday in Sharm by going on excursions. We went to Ras Mohammed and the Lazy Day boat ride which were both brilliant.
I would highly recommend Cleopatra for B&B and if you are the type who want to do activities elsewhere in the area and therefore make the most of Sharm because it has so much to offer. We definitely left Sharm with a heavy heart despite only staying a week!

Aug 2005, Mr S Tong

I found the staff at this hotel rude and offensive towards the uk and USA subjects.
The hotel is clean and presentable but over priced. It is way out of town. The near by beach is dirty.
I discovered that there were 2 different priced menus -one for people with money(west) and one for other guests.
From day one I was ignored during meal service, quoted different prices for water and meals etc, the list is endless.
I complained at the hotel desk and they looked concerned.
The group of male waiting staff (about 15) are allowed to say and do as they please to the guests.
Try it yourself if you don’t believe me but there are alot , lot better alternatives in Sharm.
A 2 star hotel thinking it's a 4 star!!

Aug 2005, Mrs J Grant

After reading alot of bad reviews on this hotel I was very worried but I have to say they were all unjustified. The hotel and staff were brilliant.
The Poolside music left alot to be desired but it wasn’t too bad and it was always finished by 11pm, and the noise of the air conditioning drowned it out anyway. The hotel is set in a very quiet part of Sharm and it's very easy to get to the towns, I would recommend using the hotel taxis rather that the blue & white ones (fixed prices and they pick you up again whenever you want)
I'm glad I wasn’t full board as the food wasn’t all that great but you can eat out for hardly anything and the food is wonderful.
The hotel also has it's own diving school if you're into that and that’s also very cheap.
All in all we had a great holiday and I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

This was the first time that I had...

Jul 2005, Mr G Stanton

This was the first time that I had ever been to Egypt. Many of my friends had recommended Sharm El Sheikh. I previous have been going to Tunisia (Hammamet).I travel alone because I prefer it to going with friends, as on past experience it saves arguments.
I arrived at the airport got a taxi to the hotel and then checked in. From my time at arriving I cannot say one bad point about the hotel, the welcome that I received from the reception area and bell boys was second to none. From unpacking my case to going to the pool I was acknowledged and welcomed.
I was on a Half Board bases but would consider upgrading to All inclusive for a charge of around £15(UK) per day. This includes All meals (including snacks), unlimited locally produced ice cream, unlimited local alcoholic and non alcoholic drink, unlimited hot drinks and wine by the glass.
The entertainment guys Sam, Oscar and Ahmed what can I say totally mad and friendly and very very competitive when it came to Water Volley Ball. I played every day and fantastic. There other entertainment was a good variety and excellent rapport they have the kids is outstanding. I highly recommend Mr and Mrs Cleopatra, very very funny.
The rooms were fine and clean and didn’t have a problem. The room staff made the stay warming as well. On my last day i went back to my room and the towels had been made into a flower on the bed and had petals sprinkled over the flower and bed.
I made some very good friends that work at the hotel and I am still in contact with them. I am returning to Cleopatra on Thursday 27th October for a week and cant wait.
This is a very friendly hotel staff are allowed to talk and get to know the guests. In higher star hotels this is frowned upon. I like the personal touch on a holiday and this hotel gives it.
The hotel has parade of shops and also a independent excursion operator. If you want to go to Cairo to see the Pyramids and Sphinx for the day best fly to Cairo as only 45 mins compared to the coach flying coasts a little more but worth it in hindsight.
The taxis that are associated with the Hotel and very good and reasonably priced. With the taxis always check prices and don’t always assume they give you a good price. Average price from the airport to Cleopatra hotel is 40 to 44 EP (£5 uk) each way.
To conclude I highly recommend this hotel and when I was there in July it was 46f+ (122oc +) and on my return 40f+. cant wait.
