Just returned from the Akti beach village resort in phaphos, well where do i start? If this resort and accomodation is regarded as 4* then i'm mother theresa, never in my life have me and my family, been to such a disgusting cockroach, ant infested, HELL HOLE which is the Akti beach village, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, consider VERY QUICKLY about your selection of accaomodation and location. We were hearded into reception and told to fill out a ridicoulous form to obtain our keys, whilst having to deal with the most arrogant, obnoxious reception staff, who had major difficulties understanding english, on requesting air-conditioning i was told to come back later as they were too busy to deal with my request, then when i returned was STUNG for 120euros for a 2 week stay.
On entering our accomodation, we found the kettle didnt work, only one ring of the very small oven worked and the ariel for the tv was broken, oh and also the tv was encrypted around 10:30pm every night and had no remote control, the air conditioning doesnt work if a door or window is open and the key fob isnt in a hole in the wall, unbelievably primative.
Had our first and last day down at the larger of the two pools, on our first day surrounded by what seemingly felt like the cast from shameless, moved to the more reserved and peaceful smaller top pool where we met some nice civilised human beings, although the CHILDREN FROM HELL would terrorise our tranquility by kicking balls across the pool from one end to the other while screaming obscenities at each other or those that would tell them off.
We looked for ways of escaping our HELL through the day, but there was nowhere to go, this place is miles from anywhere civilised, or habitable, we tried walking along the small coastal path towards coral bay, but found the area scattered with used condoms, so we tried the dirt path upto the main road into paphos a 10 minute hike to the main road got on the bus a short 5-10 minute journey into paphos, passed a couple of strip clubs, then into the harbour area itself where we were constantly asked to eat in the local restaurants (i use the term loosely) by greasy little shrimps trying to get us to pay unbelievable amounts of money for fish and chips.
The best 3 meals we had were in macdonalds, you can take from that what you will.
I cant comment on our Rep chris as we never attended our welcome meeting, as it usually consists of an hours pitch trying to sell you overpriced excursions, and also the fact that he was as about welcoming as a wet fart on our arrival.
The mini market is soooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive 9euro for 3 ice creams, 6.50 euro for 6 bottles of water, when 6 bottles can be purchase for 1.99euro, at supermarkets in town, taxi drivers are a ripoff we were charged 10euro for a journey from paphos to our HELL HOLE, then on another night were asked for 15euro for the same journey when we said no, the maniac started screaming, and sped off, trust me he would have been screaming all the way to the local infirmary if i had got my hands on him.
I could go on for ever about this place, however this is just a tiny little report about this place, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let this be a warning to anyone thinking about going to this resort, especially those with children or the elderly.
We have been to cyprus 3 times before this, on the eastern side of the island, in the protaras region, it's like another country, beautiful beaches, nice locals, fantastic hotels.

i got back from Akti last week, this is my tenth holiday and i found it to be one of the best. i headed of with my boyfriend and 2 friends all 3 of us are quite young (25-40)and wanted something relaxing with the odd mad night.
akti its self is lovley i had no problem with ants in my room but my friends did, they couldnt leave food down or they would be every where. i cant see a few ants been to much of a problem anyway after all we are in cyprus. we did have a shortage of pillows but one phone call to reception the problem was sorted. maids were in every day and cleaned the room. Had a problem with the price of things, we went half board and i was so glad of it. food was grand diffrent theme every night. however i wouldnt wanted to have went half board for two weeks as you get kind of sick of it. on the last night we headed into fat mammas for dinner, my god i have never tasted anything like it, i got the steak melted in my mouth. but then again it would need to have, it cost E30,
cyprus is very very warm make sure you bring the high sun creams i burned on the first day so keep your self well creamed up 45 degrees one day. did a trip to the blue laggon with reps E50 it was really nice but we got fed up and the food wasnt great.
bring some sort of torch with you for walking up the dirt track at night we forgot it one night and it was a slow bumppy walk home. we headed into bar street a few nights i wouldnt advise it its a kip the alcohol dont taste like alcohol and just makes you feel sick bars where empty and ther was no craic at all ( im irish lol).
we met up with a few other people from ireland when staying in the akti i really enjoyed the hotel bar at night, entertainment is a bit cheesy but its aimed at families i found it to be a laugh. music stops at 12am but they still serve drinks till 2am depends whos working in the bar,
the pools are really nice water is really warm, its like having a warm bath so it dosnt really cool you down. i thought akti was on the beach but the wather is a bit rocky so you cant get in, if you walk over towards the right hand side of beach ther is a wee place you can have a swim water is really cold but great to cool you down. i loved swimming in it but be warned thare is no sand so bring some sort of shoes you can wear in ther water.
head to coral bay for the day i loved it, 6 miles from akti we got the bus 1.50 each. warning dont use taxis unless you have to rip off E15 for a mile run. buses go to about 11 at night. coral bay was fab i dont think i have ever laughed so hard the waves go right over your head and you can rent bodyboards E3 for the day, sand is really hot tho and sticky.
down the harbor is a nice walk nice place aswell supermarket is down ther but its along way to go to buy water and even longer when you have to carry it on and off buses.
all in all i had a great time only stayed a week and would have loved to have stayed another, would go back

Having read several other comments on this site I felt compelled to write my own experiences down.
I regretfully returned home yesterday from spending a week at the Akti and I enjoyed every minute of being there!
Being young, this was my first completely independent trip abroad and Olympic couldn't have made it easier. The rep at the Akti, Chris, was very helpful and answered any questions no matter how small they seemed.
In actual fact, the hotel staff were all really helpful and polite, and their English was impeccable.
The hotel itself was very nice, very clean and well maintained. I had a studio there and it was spacious and airy, had a balcony with a lovely view and the kitchen was well equipped for self catering. The maids came daily too so the room always seemed spotless. I will say that spending the little extra money on hiring air conditioning is definately worth it, we tried to make do without for the first few nights but it really does get hot!
Although it wasn't the sort of thing I wanted from a holiday, there were always activities going on around the hotel like archery etc and a kids club so no one could get bored. The evening entertainment seemed to be geared towards a family audience too, with things like a parrot show, but although again not my cup of tea, it seemed enjoyable.
Olympic also run a variety of trips, including a flight over to Egypt! Being on a small budget I didn't quite manage that, but I did go to the zoo and the waterpark (particularly had a good day at the latter, well worth a few euros!)
The hotel pools were lovely, very clean and there always seemed to be a free sunbed! I liked that there were 2 seperate ones, as the smaller one by the shop was always quieter if you wanted to relax more.
The shop itself was admittedly expensive, but then that's always to be expected by on-site ones. The supermarket intown is much more reasonable and easy to reach by bus.
The buses don't seem to run to a particular schedule (!), but they come every 20 mins or so into town and run until around 11pm. Behind the hotel is a dirt path which leads to the bus stop (about a 5 min walk) Don't try the walk to the road up the hotel drive, we did it and it took ages! we had to stop for a beer on the way (though the bar was really nice, called Novo or something like that, barman very friendly).
In town evening atmosphere is lovely and there's no shortage of places to shop and eat (if you get homesick there's even a Debenhams!) I would reccomend a restaurant simply called The Harbour, food is amazing and the owner & staff really friendly.
Overall I completely reccomend going here, as there's something to suit everyone. I certainly would return.

Myself and my partner stayed at Akti for two weeks and overall it was a good holiday. Before I went I researched the hotel every single day for about a month haha. I can see where both the good and bad reviews come from. Personally, I was worried about the location and the ant issues. The location was pretty bad. Its at the bottom of a hill so its a 10 minute walk up a sandy dirt hill which is dangerous in all fairness, especially in the dark. Not willing to pay for over priced taxis, we walked up the path every night when we were heading into paphos and for a girl that loves to wear heels, it was tricky!! I did think I was going to break my ankle a few times and reluctantly opted for flat shoes most nights. It also killed me walking up the hill in the heat, take lots of water with you for when you reach the top! When you get to the bus stop opposite the top of the hill, you wait for the bus for anything up to 20 minutes and then its a short bus ride to the town/harbour. The location is abit disappointing but if you prepare yourself then its not as much of a shock.
We stayed on the bottom floor and only had around 4 ants in two weeks, and the same goes for mosquitos. Although I must admit there were a couple of tiny baby ants crawling on the side where the kettle and toaster were on a number of days. They were easy enough to get rid of, but it still feels abit dirty when you see them crawling around near cooking equipment etc.
The actual hotel is pretty and modern, and although we never stayed in for the entertainment, it always sounded like something was going on. Bingo was every night apart from sundays I think.
The two pools were lovely, especially the larger of the two and the views were fantastic. We went to watch the sunset on our last night which was very romantic.
We had a problem with our air con. It broke on our first, second and third day. Each day they sent the handy man out and it never got fixed up until the third day when it started pouring out with water onto the bed which was directly underneath the air con unit. I think they finally took it seriously....because after that they changed the gas cylinder and it didnt break once from then on. We were charged around 70 euros which is pretty steep but it is a must in the hot weather.
The studio apt overall was spacious and had most things that you need including a hair dryer, toaster, kettle, grill, hobs etc. The maids did not clean our floor once from the day we arrived to the day we left. We used to get in the shower, come out clean and then have dirty feet 2 mintues later because the floor was really dirty. I would have cleaned it myself but they didnt provide anything to clean it with. I thought mopping the floor was a quick and simple part of maid service? Also, they only changed our bed sheets every other day which can be abit of a problem if you get sun creams/oils/sand on the sheets etc as you have to wait to get them changed.
I must say Akti are very good for day time entertainment. My partner joined in with water polo and they also offered darts, boules, table tennis, archery and some others.
I would definately recommend Fat Mamas restaurant, lovely staff, massive portions and not as expensive as alot of the places there. The pizzas are 12 euors and are not far behind pizza hut standard. My partner had enchiladas which were nice. Also try Johannas restaurant, chloes chinese and the karlina restaurant all on the tombs of the kings road. We went to the waterpark which is a good day out and also the bird park which was also very good.
The shop on site is very expensive so it is worth going into town every few days and stocking up. There is a very cheap supermarket opposite debenhams near the harbour. We got a pack of 6x1.5 litre bottles of water for 2 euros. The exchange rate at the hotel for swapping travellers cheques is rubbish, again go into town.
On our last night whilst waiting for the coach to take us the airport, one of the male night time reception staff was quite rude to us, trying to get us to use the front door instead of the side door (which has a ramp for our suitcases to roll up). After opening the side door he said 'use the front door' to which i replied 'we're here now so we're using this one'.....it doesnt take much? There were only two computers which were constantly used by children so we couldnt get on to check emails etc even if we wanted to. Not that big a deal but would have been nice with a couple more.
I must also say that everybody goes on about having plenty of loungers but on two occasions we could not get beds around 10am time? They were all taken, mostly by towels but no people! So we had to wait and then get them around the smaller pool. Maybe it was because we went peak time.
The rep, chris, seemed nice enough but one day, the date of one of our trips was changed to an earlier date and he thought leaving a note in our pigeon holes would be good enough....however we werent told we had pigeon holes? So we didnt know to check them (behind reception somewhere out of sight) so we missed our coach. Later that day he rang our room and told us we had missed it. Luckily we just reschedueled but still I didnt think he dealt with it as good as he could have.
I could go on forever but I wont!
Overall, I wouldnt choose to go back because of the location, but it was a nice hotel overall and we had a good, relaxing holiday. Plus you cant fault the weather! Just go with an open mind and dont let any reviews put you off because you might have different opinions and a different holiday experience!

Having just spent two weeks at Akti Beach, my main feeling is that I want to go straight back. The resort itself is very clean and facilities are plentiful so if staying around the pool, playing tennis or pool is what you are after then this will suit you perfectly. Equally the bus system in Cyprus is rather good so a short work up a big hill will lead you to the nearest bus stop where for a small fee of 1.50 you can head to Coral Bay or Paphos.
Half way through my two week stay I went half board which was good to save money but also the food served at the main restaurant was excellent and because it was buffet style you can eat all you like. The staff working at both of the bars at Akti were very polite friendly and helpful, in particular George, the Bulgarian girls and Andreas who was an absolute legend.
The entertainment on the evenings was good and very varied from magic shows to parrot shows. There is also the option to play ‘bingo bango’ which had never appealed to me before but we all ended up playing most nights managing to win only a line (worth it though). In the day games such as Killer pool, table tennis and waterpolo could be played. Although I only took part in the water polo it was really good fun. To sum the resort up as short as possible I would say it is clean with friendly staff and plenty to do. Great place, great holiday.

Me and my Fiance went to Akti beach on the 6th of July this year (2008),
we had, had a long flight and when we arrived to Akti we were welcomed with open arms, even early in the morning the staff were still friendly and bubbly, checking into our rooms was easy,no fuss, when we entered the room it was amazing plenty big enough for the 2 of us,we had a studio,it came with all the bascis, such as kettle,toaster,oven/grill thingie,cups,mugs,plates,bowls,fridge/freezer and even a bread bin,and on top of that a dustpan and brush.
The maids come in every day apart from WEDNESDAY'S because that is thier day off but they come in every other day, they come cleaning early at about 9.00am cyprus time with thier really noisy trolleys,it does wake you up.
We ate in the pool bar the bar itself but never the one downstairs that was a bit nasty, alot of buffets there. The pool bar was gorgeous and the bar itself was gorgeous.
You get alot of ants if you dont clean mess up after yourself.
The mini-market on site is very expensive, you are better off going down to the harbour (if you've hired a car) and go to the supermarket called something like PAPANTONEIU its a green P with yellow around it you cant miss it.
Olypic do great excursions we went on: THE BLUE LAGOON (50 EURO),JEEP SAFARI (69 EURO),PAPHOS BIRD AND ANIMAL PARK (15 EURO) at the animal park we touched giraffes it was brilliant. The food on the blue lagoon trip is bad if you dont like chicken and the jeep safari food isnt that great either but at the animal park the food is good.
There is a woman who works in the mini maket she is chinese looking watch her because she snatches your money off you like you've got some sort of disease and she doesnt want to touch your skin.ha ha.
All in all it was a fantastic holiday but i wouldnt go back in july ever again it was reaching nearly 50 degrees somedays and you couldnt go out,my head got severly burnt and so did my nose.i advise to buy a hat a gud hat you will treasure it.
You have to pay for the air conditioning but i wouldnt moan becasue it will be the best thing you will spend money on.
And one last thing GO TO FAT MAMA'S ITS BLUDY FANTASTIC.

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Akti and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having read the reports I was a little apprehensive about the location and had planned to hire a car for a period. To say that idea was scratched on arrival is an understatement.... the walk to the bus is no problem at all, and is probably a nice way to clear the cobwebs off an otherwise unused heart (the comfort of Akti ensures you barely need to lift a finger to do anything), and the bus service puts any British attempt to shame- so a car is deffinitely not needed!!
With a pool bar, cocktail bar, and restaurant you'd expect there to be lots of staff. Think again, the hard work and dedication of a small team is absolutely extraordinary, and depsite their long hours they are perpetually friendly and helpful. Both my mate and I absolutely loved all the staff - even our cleaner was friendly and smiley and so we developed a bond with her too. The food at both the pool bar and the restaurant is great and quite simply, 'does exactly what it says on the tin'! I just wish the rest of the holiday makers showed the staff as much respect as they received and were half as polite - i actually felt embarrassed and guilty after overhearing the unpleasant way some people made their orders. Common courtesy never hurt anyone!
The Pool area was great and the village-like set up of the whole resort helps to make it a place you can spend day on day in without boredom setting in. There's always plenty of activities organised by the entertainment team, and table tennis, pool, air hockey, and tennis are available anytime all day.
Outwith the resort, both the Harbour and Bar St. are a short bus journey away, with the harbour providing a more cultural Cypriut feel, and the walk up a narrow lane from the Harbour to Bar St leading you into a different world altogther, much like the night life in any vibrant british city. Having the option to just have a more laid back evening in a cypriut cafe or to live it up in the noisy Bar st. is fantastic and great for people a little less into the clubbing scene. The last bus is at 11pm meaning a taxi is needed, but at anything between 9euros and 14euros depending on time, it's quite reasonable in comaprison to British cabs.
In summary... the place is perfect for comfort, amenities, staff, and the location suited us right down to the ground!
Deffinitely Reccommended

Stayed for 1 week in Akti, never again! Room was infested by ants plus was too far out from anywhere. Staff at reception not one bit helpful nor was the Olympic rep. Chris. The only plus side was Adel and the guy doing the entertainment they were great and they sure did earn their money. Shop was expensive, no clean towels, unfriendly staff and no air conditioning in reception area on day we departed. BOOK ELSEWHERE!!!

I have just returned after spending a week in the Akti and it was absolutely perfect!
Location - The akti is quite far out of both coral bay and pafos however both can be reached by taxi for around 10 euro or by bus for 1 euro 35 cent. The bus stop is around a 10 minute walk away on a dusty track but is bareable.
Accomodation - The room was spacious, clean and well maintained by the maid serivce. The room had a television that had a number of european and english channels including BBC (handy for watching wimbledon). There were slight problems with ants in the room however nothing a can of bug spray couldnt solve and the general rule of keep it clean and they will keep out seemed to work quite fine. I have read other reviews that criticised the fact there were ants but in fairness to the akti what do people expect in a warm climate with lots of nice plants and flowers around the grounds.
Facilities - The Akti has a lovely spacious reception area with lots of seating which in contrast to other comments i have read on here was always air conditioned. There are also 2 outdoor pools both of which are large, a small shop which i would advise avoiding due to its high prices (it is independantly owned from the Akti so no markdown on the Aktis rating for that) and resteraunt and a taverna. The view from the Akti is amazing particularly as the sun is setting, i advise sitting on a lounger and relaxing to this at night time
Food - Myself and the rest of my party found the food in the main resteraunt delicious. The evening meal is served buffet style with a different theme every night, there is a great choice of salads and meats and a good choice of desert. The taverna also serves food but beware it can be quite expensive if your just looking for a snack.
Staff - The staff at Akti are in general very polite and curtious. three who stand out as my favourites are Ina - shes absolutely lovely, Gabbi - Always really happy and cheerfull and the resteraunt manager who takes the time to greet all of the guests when they enter for the evening. On the other hand the night security guard Andreas is slightly slimely and creepy and is worth avoiding no matter how nice he first appears to be.
I will definatley be returning as soon as possible!

been here 3 times and to cyprus 10 times. this is the best hotel ever. it has been up-dated since our last visit 4 years ago. the food is a lot better apartments are spotless restaurant great, you would have to be very fussy if you didnt like the food. everything was fab including george the restaurant manager. the only downside is cyprus is now expensive since they have gone into the euro.

Just back after two weeks at akti and feel that I should add a few words of warning to anyone who has already booked or is contemplating it. Firstly like a lot of the commentators on this page I could find no fault with the general facilities here as regards lounging around during the day etc. Plenty of sunbeds and shades and the pool area is very good. The buffet breakfasts and evening meals were also quite good with the staff being very attentive.
However ants and other insects can be a big problem in the rooms and I am not just talking about the odd one or two that may scuttle across the floor. You can literally have hundreds of them at any one time and they are not just contained to areas around cooking areas or entrances to rooms as they also turn up in cupboards, wardrobes and drawers and in the bedding. Hotel management seem rather casual about this issue stating that an insect problem is a 'fact of life' on Cyprus before issuing you with a yellow can of insect repellant ( spray it and two hours later they are back!)Oh, and a piece of advice to keep the rooms 'free of crumbs' as this is what attracts them. Unfortunately as there are no brushes and dust-pans provided in the rooms this can prove to be awkward!
In my opinion one of the most cynical ploys by management at the akti is the issue over air-conditioning in the complex's public areas. The main public area in reception is like most public use areas in holiday hotels throughout the Med, plenty of soft seating for people to relax, read or chat or just to unwind; there is even a large screen TV. Also, as is normal in most complexes in the Med these days this area is provided with full air conditioning.Unfortunately during periods of extreme heat it is not turned on e.g. during the day! The Euro final was being shown in this area on our first night and the room was full of guests. The heat was unbearable and the only concession to this seemed to be that all the windows in the area had been left fully open which had no effect whatsoever except to let hot air in from the outside. Only after a number of guests complained did someone eventually come out from behind reception to switch on the air con. Incidentally the one area adjacent to reception where the air con. is always switched on is the hotel bar - so draw your own conclusions!
On check-out day people have to vacate their rooms by mid-day and as is the norm people sit around reception with their luggage waiting on their pick-up coach. When we were leaving it was particularly hectic with a large number of people crowded into the reception area. Most will agree that this can perhaps be the most stressful part of your holiday as your only thought is to get yourself and your family home with the minimum of fuss!
Once again the air con. had'nt been switched on and with the place being crowded the heat was particularly bad. People were extremely uncomfortable and sweating heavily and young children in particular were feeling the strain. A number of women complained to the owner/manager that we were hemmed in like 'cattle' in the extremely humid conditions of the reception area and asked that he ease the situation by switching on the air con.His response was to open the terrace doors and windows which as before simply made things worse in the mid-day heat!He also said that to put on the air con.in reception during the day would mean that the air con.in people's rooms would'nt work!- and this in a four star establishment!
In my opinion this attitude showed disdain to people who were at the end of their holiday.Obviously the provision of air con. in a large public area adds, among other things to running costs and I would suggest that this is a major factor in the running of this family run complex. The downstairs restaurant which caters for the breakfast and evening buffets similarly has full air con.but as is the case in reception it is never switched on.
I have written at length about this issue because I feel it shows the arrogance of the owners towards the customers who are paying good money for what should be a four star experience but which sadly isn't.The fact that you should even have to pay extra for air con. in your room in this day and age is an indication of what lies behind the way this place is run. There are other matters which will be familiar to other people who have stayed here and which will be picked up on by people who have yet to experience it.For example the daytime receptionist who is a cross between a female version of Basil Fawlty and the ice queen and the waitress who constantly badgers you to buy a drink in the reception area every five minutes even when it has been made clear that you dont want one!I refused her seven times one evening while trying to watch some wimbledon tennis and she came back an eighth time to ask me whether I wanted to 'order a drink now'!She must be on bonus because the other two waitresses dont hassle the guests.
I am aware having read the comments that some people think that this place is without fault and I am happy that they enjoyed their time there;everyone has an opinion but for me a holiday should be for the most part an enjoyable and relaxing experience and not one where you imagine that you are involved in a battle of wits with the management.Good luck to anyone who has yet to go there and stand your ground on the air-con in reception.

Was ok apartments accept from we had to kill about 40 bugs in our room. Doors Could of actually fitted the casing. Not much selection on food though. Mini market was very deer and so were the drinks from the bar. Staff were very friendly accept from the waiter he always looked terrible. Was 10 euros to get a taxi either way to coral beach or the harbour. i would suggest you get the bus which is only 1.35euros but you have to walk a hike up that hill that gets very hot!

Akti is a very clean and beautiful tourist village. There are beautiful flowers all around the pathways in the tourist village which also increase the privacy on balconys.
The one bed apartment was basic but clean and comfortable with two private balconys. The apartments are only two stories high so noise is not a problem.
Air con had to be purchased at reception but was well worth the money and if any problems occurred a maintanence team member was straight round to take care of anything.
There are two pools one more spectacular which had pool bar attached. There were free loungers and umbrellas which were plentiful too. There was entertainment 6 days a week which could get annoying during the day and music was played for most of the day by the larger pool but if complained music was turned down and they did do requests. The pool bar food was basic but good and the cocktails were very good with plenty of liquor in! There was also a happy hour at 3.30 daily. The ajoining Taverna produced good food and the local wine was amazing, well worth trying.
The bus which was a 10 min walk and was 1.35 Euro no matter what the destination. The bus was frequent and stopped at the habour which had good restaurants including Risto La Piazza and Gourmet Taverna, the former being good for a special occasion.
Aphrodite waterpark is also well worth a visit for children and adults alike at 28 Euro for adults and 15 Euro for children.
Overall would definitely reccommend Akti and would return, if book early can get good discounts!
