" Went with a mate from August 27th... "
Submitted By: Miss C PRIMERWith regards to the staff at Akti, I personally didn't have a problem with them, but never had cause to speak with them other than booking in when I arrived and then booking out when I left...The receptionist was always happy to book us a taxi every night though...
The entertainment at Akti is very holiday camp style...Thats okay if you like that sort of thing, and okay for the kids I suppose. Did play the Bingo Bango a couple of times, which was quite funny (Shaky Shaky, Wakey Wakey!!...people who have also played will get that!!)
I quite like Karaoke, but their Karaoke night was a bit lame, and lacked atmosphere...If you like a good sing song go to Pitstop (Thursdays) or Alfie T's (Every night). These are on Tomb of the Kings Road. I swear the bloke who did the karaoke from Alfie T's was Jerry St Clair from Phoenix Nights!!! Sounded just like him!!!
The food at Akti is not the best...I only ate there on the first night and the food was a bit cold, and not great. Me and my mate ate out every night after that... The place we went to every night was called Fat Mama's....Absolutely brilliant!!! The food was well worth the prices... The most expensive thing on the menu was the steak, which was E27, but the steak is about 2 inches thick, and 6 inches across, and more fries than you could shake a stick at!!! The waistline took a bit of a pounding that week!!! They also do a bit of entertainment at about 10pm, which was good (especially the Coco Cabana routine where the hot waiter is topless apart from a dicky bow!!!!!)
The pools at Akti are very clean and are also quite warm, so bit like getting into a bath!!! If you want to guarantee a sunbed, you have to get up early, otherwise you will be disappointed..
The main pool looks directly out to sea, and there is a little path down to a cove, where you can have a dip in the sea, which is a bit cooler than the pools.. It is a bit pebbly though, so makes it a bit difficult getting in and out...
One word about the weather....HOT!! And very humid at night.... The air conditioning is a must if you want to sleep at night, and to be honest, I didn't think it was too expensive, it cost E29.75 for a week.
If you decide to walk to the main road from the hotel and take the road, you are in for a very long walk, but there is a dirt track at the back of the hotel, and this takes about 5 minutes. From reading previous reviews, I was expecting something resembling Everest, but it really is a small inclined track, and a little bumpy...Beats the other way, thats for sure!!! When you get to the main road, the bus stop is right there... The No 10 or 15 takes you to Coral Beach Bay... This is a lovely beach with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas.. You do have to pay for the privilege though... It cost E7.50 for two sunbeds and an umbrella.... They do have lots of watersports there, i.e jetskis, pedalos, banana boat etc... The water was also nice and warm there too....
If you want to go the other way from the main road, the No 15 takes you down Tomb of Kings Road, and to the harbour. The cost of a bus ride is E1.50, and this is to wherever you want to go, which to me was very good for the money.
Taxi's cost about E8 - E10 for going to the harbour or where the bars and restaurants are on Tomb of Kings Road....It is advised to ask the driver how much the fare is before getting in, so that they can't fleece you!!!
The Aphrodite Water Park is a good place to go for the day...This costs E1.50 by bus (No 15), and you get this back at the water park when you hand in your bus ticket. It costs E28 for adults and I think it was E15 for children... Its a good day out, and there are loads of sunbeds if you don't fancy going on the slides, and prefer to top up the tan!! The slides are pretty good but there are a lot of steps to keep climbing all day to get to them, so expect a good nights sleep that day!!!
Right...the Olympic rep, Chris..... Well thankfully I didn't have to have that much to do with him, but he didn't really make me instill a lot of faith in him.... He just didn't give off the vibe that he was that bothered, unless you were signing up for loads of trips that is!!!! He had zero enthusiasm, and the welcome meeting felt more like a church meeting!!! Me and my mate missed the initial meeting and a note was left on our apartment door informing us of another one, so we made the mstake of going to it!!! Boring!!! Unless you do want to go on loads of trips, I wouldn't bother...well you do get a free glass of orange....Woo pee do!!!!
All in all, I had a good holiday at Akti... It was a last minute holiday and only cost £350 for a week in the last week of August, so can't really complain.... There weren't really that many negative points, as I really only used the room as a base for sleeping....I think if I was on a budget and stayed completely at the hotel, then I would have felt differently..., Had never been to Cyprus before, but overall Paphos is a very pleasant area, and the locals are very friendly and accommodating...

Submitted By: Mrs S EvansWe stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment, there were four of us and we did have plenty of space, this was a ground floor apartment with two balconies and NO ants!! We went armed with ant and cockroach killer, which we didn't need. I would say though we did hear another family talking about the cockroach they had in their romm, but I hasten to add that this was only 1 cockroach and the only incident we were aware of. I know there have been a lot of reviews where the ants appear to be an issue, but seriously this is common place in a lot of countires outside of the UK, we normally go to Flordia for our holidays, and this was the first place we experienced ants and cockroaches in our accommodation, we were told about this and it is common place due to their climates. The houses over there are treated every three months. My criticism of the room was that if you did want to sit down there was no where comfortable to do this, as they seating had been made into beds.
The complex was very clean and on the whole the staff were polite. I do understand what people are saying about the expense, however, I am aware of friends of mine going on holiday to Rhodes saying exactly the same thing, they were away when we were away, they were charged 240 euros for two cars for 1 day! It seems that these European holiday resorts are trying to get as much money out of us as possible!
The shop is expensive but again I would say on reflection that this is generally the items that have been imported in, such as baked beans, cadbury chocolate etc. We took some of these things with us so didn't have an issue.
On the subject of the rep Chris, I would whole heartedly agree that he is useless, not pleasant at all, in fact quite agressive. Do a bit of reasearch before you go and avoid him!
We got taxis to the harbour which we paid 10 euros for which again I didn't think was that bad, we went to a lovely restaurant, 'The Harbour' where the food was amazing and not too badly priced, this one we discovered during our meal is in fact run by an English lady it has recently been refurbished and it what you would expect.
The resort is a little way out from the main drag of shops and restaurants, but this is what we were looking for on this holiday so it did suit us. Having said that, had we have not been it would not have been ideally suited for us.
So in summary a nice clean resort, location a little out, research first and don't be afraid to venture, catch the bus if you need to, use the dirt track, take a torch to use on the way home, avoid the rep, remember your ant killer just in case and have a good time!

" Got back from cyprus yesterday after... "
Submitted By: Mrs P BibbI have mixed feelings about Akti and have to say that after reading some of the more negative reviews was pleasantly surprised with the accomodation.
There was 4 of us in a 1 bedroomed apartment which was absolutlely huge with an equally huge balcony (which was much larger than the majority i have to say). It was absolutlely immaculate on arrival and was kept to the high standard by the maids whom came in every day (and they DID sweep and mop our floors every day). We were very impressed with the maids who were wonderful, the food and bev staff were very friendly and accomodating. Ok...we did have a few ants.. but you expect a few in Cyprus...however we were on the 1st floor so that probably helped. I was surprised at the lack of mosquitoes also...not a problem. All the kitchen and utensils were immaculate...like new.... However our kettle had to be replaced as it stopped working and it was replaced with one that wouldnt switch itself off!! Also one ring on the oven did not work..they were supposed to fix it but he didnt show up.
Food was very expensive in bars and restaurants in Akti and shop was extortionate.
Entertainment was very working mans club..not our cup of tea but those who stayed around seemed to enjoy it.
Pools were super..large one especially so. But get yourself down to the sea. To the right of the sunbeds there are some steps down to a cove. The water is like a mill pond, warm and safe. The only down side was that the bottom was stony and you need beach shoes. But once in you could swim out a little take them off and put them on a rock for later.
Excursions from Akti were a total rip off and i imagine v uncomfiortable. We hired a car as the taxis were extortionate and it as a long walk to the bus (We walked a long the road - 20 mins. Only found out about the dirt track on the last day..nobody told us...10 mins). When out and about in our car visiting for free all the places that the 'Rep' had sold for 50 - 70 euros a pop we saw 8 hot and very sweaty people squeezed into 'safari jeeps' being ferried around to overcrowded and over priced 'tourist attractions.
This brings me to Chris the rep who i feel is taking money under false pretences. He was only interested in you if you wanted to buy excursions or hire a very overpriced once again hire car (Go into Paphos - we used Chris's Cars...had a suzuki alto for 10 days and a tank of petrol for the same price as it would have cost us from Chris and Hertz for 4 days!!!)
On the 2nd day we were there, my daughters friend (18) who was with us heard that a close family member had been taken seriously ill. Ofcourse he wanted to get home as soon as possible. We went to Chris the rep for help and advice...as you wuould expect... he gave us the names of the local airports!!!!! and that is about as much help as he gave us. He never followed it up to even see if our companion had got a flight...he had the opportinuty on many occasions to ask if he had got away etc ...just out of common courtesy...nothing...absolutley useless.
On the third day my husband was sitting on a white plastic chair reading and the legs broke resulting in him falling and badly hurting his arm. Again we went to Chris for help and advice about hopitals/medical centres (should have known better)...he gave us the local phone book!!!
I felt so strongly about Chris's ineptitude and unproffessionalism that i have wirtten a letterof complaint to Olympic headquarters.
I know after reading this you will probably think that I have been way too negative.
I would go there again because the complex was so clean and had everything if you wanted it (Except for the rep). However...the best way to do it..is use the Akti as a base....hire a car from somewhere in town...get away from the pool and the complex and get out there and see the real Cyprus. Go into the Troodos mountains.....eat in the local villages where the locals eat...get way from the 'Tourist areas...and you will have a fantastic holiday!!!

Submitted By: Mr J LambertOn entering our accomodation, we found the kettle didnt work, only one ring of the very small oven worked and the ariel for the tv was broken, oh and also the tv was encrypted around 10:30pm every night and had no remote control, the air conditioning doesnt work if a door or window is open and the key fob isnt in a hole in the wall, unbelievably primative.
Had our first and last day down at the larger of the two pools, on our first day surrounded by what seemingly felt like the cast from shameless, moved to the more reserved and peaceful smaller top pool where we met some nice civilised human beings, although the CHILDREN FROM HELL would terrorise our tranquility by kicking balls across the pool from one end to the other while screaming obscenities at each other or those that would tell them off.
We looked for ways of escaping our HELL through the day, but there was nowhere to go, this place is miles from anywhere civilised, or habitable, we tried walking along the small coastal path towards coral bay, but found the area scattered with used condoms, so we tried the dirt path upto the main road into paphos a 10 minute hike to the main road got on the bus a short 5-10 minute journey into paphos, passed a couple of strip clubs, then into the harbour area itself where we were constantly asked to eat in the local restaurants (i use the term loosely) by greasy little shrimps trying to get us to pay unbelievable amounts of money for fish and chips.
The best 3 meals we had were in macdonalds, you can take from that what you will.
I cant comment on our Rep chris as we never attended our welcome meeting, as it usually consists of an hours pitch trying to sell you overpriced excursions, and also the fact that he was as about welcoming as a wet fart on our arrival.
The mini market is soooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive 9euro for 3 ice creams, 6.50 euro for 6 bottles of water, when 6 bottles can be purchase for 1.99euro, at supermarkets in town, taxi drivers are a ripoff we were charged 10euro for a journey from paphos to our HELL HOLE, then on another night were asked for 15euro for the same journey when we said no, the maniac started screaming, and sped off, trust me he would have been screaming all the way to the local infirmary if i had got my hands on him.
I could go on for ever about this place, however this is just a tiny little report about this place, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let this be a warning to anyone thinking about going to this resort, especially those with children or the elderly.
We have been to cyprus 3 times before this, on the eastern side of the island, in the protaras region, it's like another country, beautiful beaches, nice locals, fantastic hotels.

" i got back from Akti last week, this... "
Submitted By: Miss S Bradleyakti its self is lovley i had no problem with ants in my room but my friends did, they couldnt leave food down or they would be every where. i cant see a few ants been to much of a problem anyway after all we are in cyprus. we did have a shortage of pillows but one phone call to reception the problem was sorted. maids were in every day and cleaned the room. Had a problem with the price of things, we went half board and i was so glad of it. food was grand diffrent theme every night. however i wouldnt wanted to have went half board for two weeks as you get kind of sick of it. on the last night we headed into fat mammas for dinner, my god i have never tasted anything like it, i got the steak melted in my mouth. but then again it would need to have, it cost E30,
cyprus is very very warm make sure you bring the high sun creams i burned on the first day so keep your self well creamed up 45 degrees one day. did a trip to the blue laggon with reps E50 it was really nice but we got fed up and the food wasnt great.
bring some sort of torch with you for walking up the dirt track at night we forgot it one night and it was a slow bumppy walk home. we headed into bar street a few nights i wouldnt advise it its a kip the alcohol dont taste like alcohol and just makes you feel sick bars where empty and ther was no craic at all ( im irish lol).
we met up with a few other people from ireland when staying in the akti i really enjoyed the hotel bar at night, entertainment is a bit cheesy but its aimed at families i found it to be a laugh. music stops at 12am but they still serve drinks till 2am depends whos working in the bar,
the pools are really nice water is really warm, its like having a warm bath so it dosnt really cool you down. i thought akti was on the beach but the wather is a bit rocky so you cant get in, if you walk over towards the right hand side of beach ther is a wee place you can have a swim water is really cold but great to cool you down. i loved swimming in it but be warned thare is no sand so bring some sort of shoes you can wear in ther water.
head to coral bay for the day i loved it, 6 miles from akti we got the bus 1.50 each. warning dont use taxis unless you have to rip off E15 for a mile run. buses go to about 11 at night. coral bay was fab i dont think i have ever laughed so hard the waves go right over your head and you can rent bodyboards E3 for the day, sand is really hot tho and sticky.
down the harbor is a nice walk nice place aswell supermarket is down ther but its along way to go to buy water and even longer when you have to carry it on and off buses.
all in all i had a great time only stayed a week and would have loved to have stayed another, would go back

Submitted By: Miss K GoodmanI regretfully returned home yesterday from spending a week at the Akti and I enjoyed every minute of being there!
Being young, this was my first completely independent trip abroad and Olympic couldn't have made it easier. The rep at the Akti, Chris, was very helpful and answered any questions no matter how small they seemed.
In actual fact, the hotel staff were all really helpful and polite, and their English was impeccable.
The hotel itself was very nice, very clean and well maintained. I had a studio there and it was spacious and airy, had a balcony with a lovely view and the kitchen was well equipped for self catering. The maids came daily too so the room always seemed spotless. I will say that spending the little extra money on hiring air conditioning is definately worth it, we tried to make do without for the first few nights but it really does get hot!
Although it wasn't the sort of thing I wanted from a holiday, there were always activities going on around the hotel like archery etc and a kids club so no one could get bored. The evening entertainment seemed to be geared towards a family audience too, with things like a parrot show, but although again not my cup of tea, it seemed enjoyable.
Olympic also run a variety of trips, including a flight over to Egypt! Being on a small budget I didn't quite manage that, but I did go to the zoo and the waterpark (particularly had a good day at the latter, well worth a few euros!)
The hotel pools were lovely, very clean and there always seemed to be a free sunbed! I liked that there were 2 seperate ones, as the smaller one by the shop was always quieter if you wanted to relax more.
The shop itself was admittedly expensive, but then that's always to be expected by on-site ones. The supermarket intown is much more reasonable and easy to reach by bus.
The buses don't seem to run to a particular schedule (!), but they come every 20 mins or so into town and run until around 11pm. Behind the hotel is a dirt path which leads to the bus stop (about a 5 min walk) Don't try the walk to the road up the hotel drive, we did it and it took ages! we had to stop for a beer on the way (though the bar was really nice, called Novo or something like that, barman very friendly).
In town evening atmosphere is lovely and there's no shortage of places to shop and eat (if you get homesick there's even a Debenhams!) I would reccomend a restaurant simply called The Harbour, food is amazing and the owner & staff really friendly.
Overall I completely reccomend going here, as there's something to suit everyone. I certainly would return.

" Myself and my partner stayed at Akti... "
Submitted By: Miss K PerrinWe stayed on the bottom floor and only had around 4 ants in two weeks, and the same goes for mosquitos. Although I must admit there were a couple of tiny baby ants crawling on the side where the kettle and toaster were on a number of days. They were easy enough to get rid of, but it still feels abit dirty when you see them crawling around near cooking equipment etc.
The actual hotel is pretty and modern, and although we never stayed in for the entertainment, it always sounded like something was going on. Bingo was every night apart from sundays I think.
The two pools were lovely, especially the larger of the two and the views were fantastic. We went to watch the sunset on our last night which was very romantic.
We had a problem with our air con. It broke on our first, second and third day. Each day they sent the handy man out and it never got fixed up until the third day when it started pouring out with water onto the bed which was directly underneath the air con unit. I think they finally took it seriously....because after that they changed the gas cylinder and it didnt break once from then on. We were charged around 70 euros which is pretty steep but it is a must in the hot weather.
The studio apt overall was spacious and had most things that you need including a hair dryer, toaster, kettle, grill, hobs etc. The maids did not clean our floor once from the day we arrived to the day we left. We used to get in the shower, come out clean and then have dirty feet 2 mintues later because the floor was really dirty. I would have cleaned it myself but they didnt provide anything to clean it with. I thought mopping the floor was a quick and simple part of maid service? Also, they only changed our bed sheets every other day which can be abit of a problem if you get sun creams/oils/sand on the sheets etc as you have to wait to get them changed.
I must say Akti are very good for day time entertainment. My partner joined in with water polo and they also offered darts, boules, table tennis, archery and some others.
I would definately recommend Fat Mamas restaurant, lovely staff, massive portions and not as expensive as alot of the places there. The pizzas are 12 euors and are not far behind pizza hut standard. My partner had enchiladas which were nice. Also try Johannas restaurant, chloes chinese and the karlina restaurant all on the tombs of the kings road. We went to the waterpark which is a good day out and also the bird park which was also very good.
The shop on site is very expensive so it is worth going into town every few days and stocking up. There is a very cheap supermarket opposite debenhams near the harbour. We got a pack of 6x1.5 litre bottles of water for 2 euros. The exchange rate at the hotel for swapping travellers cheques is rubbish, again go into town.
On our last night whilst waiting for the coach to take us the airport, one of the male night time reception staff was quite rude to us, trying to get us to use the front door instead of the side door (which has a ramp for our suitcases to roll up). After opening the side door he said 'use the front door' to which i replied 'we're here now so we're using this one'.....it doesnt take much? There were only two computers which were constantly used by children so we couldnt get on to check emails etc even if we wanted to. Not that big a deal but would have been nice with a couple more.
I must also say that everybody goes on about having plenty of loungers but on two occasions we could not get beds around 10am time? They were all taken, mostly by towels but no people! So we had to wait and then get them around the smaller pool. Maybe it was because we went peak time.
The rep, chris, seemed nice enough but one day, the date of one of our trips was changed to an earlier date and he thought leaving a note in our pigeon holes would be good enough....however we werent told we had pigeon holes? So we didnt know to check them (behind reception somewhere out of sight) so we missed our coach. Later that day he rang our room and told us we had missed it. Luckily we just reschedueled but still I didnt think he dealt with it as good as he could have.
I could go on forever but I wont!
Overall, I wouldnt choose to go back because of the location, but it was a nice hotel overall and we had a good, relaxing holiday. Plus you cant fault the weather! Just go with an open mind and dont let any reviews put you off because you might have different opinions and a different holiday experience!

On arrival I had no problems checking in very fast and in our room within 5 minutes. Think we got a free upgrade so cant be bad pool and sea view.
The room are very large, the main part of the room looked like it had just been reovated so was not bad how ever the bathroom was very tied chipped bath dirt and lime scale all over the tils not nice at all and certenally not 4*.
The pool areas are excellent and with the hotels location near the sea a gentle breeze makes all the difference.
Pool bar and the on site shop are very expensive but no more than any where else I have ever been and its to be expected that where hotels make there money not on the actual accom.
The maids cleaned our room every day except Wed and when I say cleaned I mean they changed the towels. This hotel does seem to have a very serious problem with hygeine. Our room was not once swept or moped and maids where next to useless.
onto Chris the rep totally agree with all the comments totally useless, olympic seriously need to look into his employment because he is absolutly useless, never makes any effort to get to know you never once asked if everything was ok or even say hi and just looked like it was the last place on earth he wanted to be(prob due to the location)
This hotel is in the middle of no where its funny because they sell it as Paphos but when you check out and you get your qurestionaire under the resort section its not even Paphos. Taxis are 10E or what ever the taxi drivers decide to charge you and the bus is E1.50.
As for Paphos excellent the food first class and so many places to go and see.
To sum up
I would only recommed satying here if you like being in the middle of no where and dont mind un cleaned rooms insects on your bed when you wake up and poor hotel food.
We went for 2 weeks and made the mistake of the first week still being in school holiday time, with kids running wild at all hours and parents to drunk to care at night it was not for me. If parents think its ok for there kids to have water fights outside your room at gone midnight then am sorry your a disgrace.
I really would say do not stay here as the location is so poor you dont get to see any of Cyprus cos its such an effort why go on a 4 hour flight to stay in the hotel all holiday if thats all you want go to Spain its much nearer.
We paid £317 for 2 weeks SC so suppose can we really complain? Hell yeah when I book a 4 star I atleast expect it to be clean which it is not. Its not much to ask is it.
