This is our second visit to the Akti Beach in Paphos, and yes it is a bit out of the way and 'beach' in the title is a little misleading, but for the money, this hotel is a great stay in Cyprus. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped, sometimes it's a little pot luck with the balcony and view depending on what room you get. For Half Board, we still had a fridge, oven and cooking facilities which is great. The food is lovely and George in the main restaurant cannot do enough to make your dining experience a good one. The food is excellent, service attentive and friendly and drinks are not extortionate.
Going Half Board here is definitely good value for money, especially with Cyprus being expensive already before the introduction of the Euro which makes Self Catering a serious expense on top of your holiday. For instance, a tiny block of cheese is about 5 Euros!
It is on a bit of a slope and you have to be careful when trying to get to the bus stop which is at the top of the slope, but you can easily get into Paphos and elsewhere via a Taxi.
As well as an inside Swimming Pool and sauna etc, there are 2 x outdoor pools, both which are lovely and cleaned daily. Some of the sunbeds may need replacing here and there but hey !
All in all, fantastic value for money and a great place to stay.

This place doesnt warrant its 4* status...The rooms were clean & basic. Some staff polite not all, does depend on who u get. Chris was ok only if u havnt got a complaint. Supermarket extremely expensive, also didnt stock enough food to be self catering......Sewage smell outside appartments was bad. Not a place to go if u want to step outside the resort to eat at local taverners & resturants. You will need a car, to be self catering!!!!!!!!!!!! Taxi r expensive the bus stop is to far to walk with kids in heat... Coral Bay beach is ok but dirty wiv Fag butts & Rubbish.... Very English,.Highly recommended is The Wavedancer Firework night trip..worth every penny....George in main resturant was a very nice & kind host, he couldnt do enough 4 u... Alex was a good entertainer, not much 4 kids to do...... CAR CAR CAR thats all we can say.......Expensive.......

My first impression of atki beach was, It was out on a limb too far away from main resort to walk there, and if you tried to walk, there are no pavement to walk on.When we got off the transfer coach there was a strong smell of sewage on the site ( and remained all of the 2 weeks we were there). The reception staff were quite pleasant and helpful. The restaurant manager was very rude if you were not pretty or did not buy the over priced wine. There was a good selection of food in the restaurant. The cold food was cold but, the hot food was only lukewarm and after you put in on the cold plates then it was cold. The lay-out of the site was quite nice, they had tried to make it look like an Greek village.Apart from the ants in the room it was fairly clean with clean towels everyday. The mini-market on the site was not very well stocked and expensive. If you were to go self-catering you would have to go into the town because I did not see any fruit or veg on display. The bar and lounge were very nicely fitted out but the entertainment reminded my of the kind of thing you got years ago in the working mens clubs. Why when you go abroad do we not get some entertainment that is not english. Wil I go there again the answer is NO.

We had 1 week at Akti Beach and we did not see any ants, or any insects, other than receiving a few mosquetos bites (which you can get anywhere abroad). Our accommodation was a studio, clean, spacious, the maid service was excellent, facilities excellent. The food in the restauant was good, various dishes, plenty of it. If you go hungry thats you own fault. Staff were helpful, kind and obliging. George was a first class head waiter. The only down side was it was a bit out of Paphas and the walk from the front was quite long, the "short cut" at the back is very acceptable and although a dirt track was no problem and took approx 4 mins to the bus stop. The music in the entertainment area was too loud, (no I am not a kill joy), but when you are not able to communicate with each other, I feel that is too loud. Karoko, was a wash out. The entertainment needs looking at. The DJ would insist on playing music over the background music, two tv's permantly on, all at the same time, too much. Bus fares are 1.50 E to go anywhere, good value. We took the Egypt trip, excellent, well worth it.

Did my homework before I went!! Bit of a trek from Paphos, hired car at airport for 2 weeks, no probs.
Complex is neat, clean and tidy.No ants in our room, 326, small, cleaners were brill, mopped ever day etc.
SC so only had food at pool bar in the day, filling and OK.Pool very warm and large, Polo in afternoon very good. Right next to beech, went in sea every day snorkelling, Beer cheap upto midnight, 2.3 euros, 3 euro after.
Sheila on reception English, very helpful, fones in room cheaper than mobiles to fone home.
Chris the rep very helpful to us. Had a couple of major probs that he sorted out same day.
TV bit iffy, but hey who wants to watch Corrie on holiday?
Overall, been to worse places in Cyprus, paid £365 each for 2 weeks, flying with Monarch, so can't really grumble.
Yes would recommend, sterling v euro as the biggest problem!

we stayed at the akti beach for 2 weeks in aug 08,when we arrived we were met by a friendly receptionist who give us our keys plus welcome pack, she pointed to where our apartment was which was in an excellent place over looking the pool.Within 10 minutes we were presented with a bottle of champagne and flowers as we were getting married. The apartments were basic but clean, the maids came almost every day to clean and leave clean towels. The pool areas was excellent and clean, the shop on site was very expensive. The breakfast was buffet style which was"nt very nice,on the afternoon the pool bar opened serving burgers chips and sandwiches which was nice.evening meals was buffet style again which was different themes every night was"nt nice at all.entertainment on a night was ok including parrot show, magic show, bingo, karaoke, discos etc.The staff always looked miserable but it did"nt bother us.the location is the main problem with the akti its in the middle of nowhere,i spent about 300 euros on transport.its a 15 min walk to the bus stop(and it feels about 1 hour in that heat)then its about 15 min to coral bay on the bus,the other way takes you to tomb of the kings 5 min, harbour and bar street 15 min.taxi ride is about 14 euros to coral bay,10 euros to the harbour. We got married in the local town hall and had the reception down the harbour,we used the akti as our base to meet with the olympic reps who were very helpful. To sum it up then its a nice place to stay but in the middle of nowhere and if you want good food you will have to travel for it.

This was our first holiday to Cyprus. We finally got there (after a 7 hour delay) and reached the Akti Hotel.
My first impression was the seemingly charming reception, the floor was marbled, there were beautiful potted plants dotted about and the receptionist was friendly and keen to aid us to our rooms.
A security guard then appeared who’d obviously forgotten his manners and grumpily took our bags and proceeded to our rooms forgetting to welcome us and introduce himself.
He walked to the room which wasn’t far and placed our luggage down, we appreciated his hard work in the heat and thanked him. He left and we now became accustomed to our suites.
We were all quite surprised to be looking at a 4 star hotel, that’s laughable. It was at the most a 2 star. The furniture rang of cheapness and the general condition wasn’t as posh and luxurious as what you’d expect from a 4 star.
What we then did was check the place for any kind of insect as we all knew previously that Akti was notorious for its unwelcome wildlife -thanks to this website!
We saw nothing and slept. The following evening myself and brother decided to go into the pool. We hadn’t noticed the sign which told us not to swim after 7:00pm. I jumped in and hastily got right back out as the same security guard came over and gave us both a telling off. “You’re not allowed to swim after 7:00” he told us, in which we replied sorry, respectfully. This wasn’t good enough and he wanted our room numbers to check us up. My brother gave him what he thought was our room number but what turned out to be not. He came walking back to us a little frustrated. He wanted one of us to go and see the manager with him! I told him I’m not going to walk through the hotel in my soaked state to see a manager! He wasn’t pleased and argued with us for a good ten minutes while we were incessantly telling him that we didn’t realise the night time rules (which is just absurd). He was clearly a power head, the tough, macho guard. He bothered us a little more on our holiday, he’d often shine his tourch purposefully into our eyes whilst he inspected the area and we always caught him telling some other people off who protested they were just sitting by the pool! (This guy has to go.)
The insects we encountered in our apartments were huge cockroaches, hundreds of ants, praying mantis, large ants...
We got rid of whatever we saw with insecticide (anyone staying at Akti better have this stuff or it could prove to be a truly horrible time.)
The great thing about the Akti location is that it’s right next to Coral Bay, so a lot of the days we just snorkelled there, and it’s beautiful waters enabled us to see the fish we were swimming amongst. (A must if you’re staying at Akti)
So overall, the accommodation was below satisfactory; the staffs were generally friendly, just the guard that had no business to deal with us in the manner he did.

Just got back from a 2 week sentance at the AKTI. Where do I start. Booked through Thomas Cook so was a bit disappointed when I got through my tickets and found out I was going with Olympic.
On arrival I had no problems checking in very fast and in our room within 5 minutes. Think we got a free upgrade so cant be bad pool and sea view.
The room are very large, the main part of the room looked like it had just been reovated so was not bad how ever the bathroom was very tied chipped bath dirt and lime scale all over the tils not nice at all and certenally not 4*.
The pool areas are excellent and with the hotels location near the sea a gentle breeze makes all the difference.
Pool bar and the on site shop are very expensive but no more than any where else I have ever been and its to be expected that where hotels make there money not on the actual accom.
The maids cleaned our room every day except Wed and when I say cleaned I mean they changed the towels. This hotel does seem to have a very serious problem with hygeine. Our room was not once swept or moped and maids where next to useless.
onto Chris the rep totally agree with all the comments totally useless, olympic seriously need to look into his employment because he is absolutly useless, never makes any effort to get to know you never once asked if everything was ok or even say hi and just looked like it was the last place on earth he wanted to be(prob due to the location)
This hotel is in the middle of no where its funny because they sell it as Paphos but when you check out and you get your qurestionaire under the resort section its not even Paphos. Taxis are 10E or what ever the taxi drivers decide to charge you and the bus is E1.50.
As for Paphos excellent the food first class and so many places to go and see.
To sum up
I would only recommed satying here if you like being in the middle of no where and dont mind un cleaned rooms insects on your bed when you wake up and poor hotel food.
We went for 2 weeks and made the mistake of the first week still being in school holiday time, with kids running wild at all hours and parents to drunk to care at night it was not for me. If parents think its ok for there kids to have water fights outside your room at gone midnight then am sorry your a disgrace.
I really would say do not stay here as the location is so poor you dont get to see any of Cyprus cos its such an effort why go on a 4 hour flight to stay in the hotel all holiday if thats all you want go to Spain its much nearer.
We paid £317 for 2 weeks SC so suppose can we really complain? Hell yeah when I book a 4 star I atleast expect it to be clean which it is not. Its not much to ask is it.

My husband and I booked a late deal to the Akti Holiday Village, on a half board basis. We arrived at reception at midnight to confusion as only one member of staff was trying to deal with everyone at once. We eventually received our key and told to go left throught the door and follow numbers till we got to our room. If it was not for a member of staff who found us all wondering round narrow and poorly lit paths, who helped get us to our rooms, we would of been lost for ages. The room was very basic to say the least, and over run with ants. The next morning we found our way to breakfast which was very nice and the resturant staff lovely. The pool area and gardens are well kept and nice. Unless you want to pay the high prices on the complex you need to hire a car as it is a long way from Paphos or any other life. The Olympic rep Chris Evans not a very nice person at all, rude and uninterested in any problems you may have. The complex staff are not much better especially when you complain about the ants, apparently you have to put up with them, as I replied not when they are all over our bed. They eventually left us some spray. I must say though the resturant staff expecially George are lovely and the food is excellent. On our second day two families demanded to be moved to other accommodation, had we been there for 2 weeks we would of done the same.

Went with a mate from August 27th till September 3rd 2008. Stayed in a studio apartment which was huge..not what I was expecting..so pleasantly surprised!! The room was nice and clean and the maids came in every day and cleaned and changed the towels. The sheets were changed once during the week, which is what I would have expected.. We stayed in Room 305, which was a first floor apartment.. The view wasn't too great,it overlooked the car park, but this wasn't a problem for me... From reading previous reviews before I went, I was expecting to share the room with a whole family of ants and cockroaches, and even went to the trouble of taking a can of ant and cockroach killer with me, but I did not see a single one in the room all week..so either they had gone on their hols or I was just one of the lucky ones!!!
With regards to the staff at Akti, I personally didn't have a problem with them, but never had cause to speak with them other than booking in when I arrived and then booking out when I left...The receptionist was always happy to book us a taxi every night though...
The entertainment at Akti is very holiday camp style...Thats okay if you like that sort of thing, and okay for the kids I suppose. Did play the Bingo Bango a couple of times, which was quite funny (Shaky Shaky, Wakey Wakey!!...people who have also played will get that!!)
I quite like Karaoke, but their Karaoke night was a bit lame, and lacked atmosphere...If you like a good sing song go to Pitstop (Thursdays) or Alfie T's (Every night). These are on Tomb of the Kings Road. I swear the bloke who did the karaoke from Alfie T's was Jerry St Clair from Phoenix Nights!!! Sounded just like him!!!
The food at Akti is not the best...I only ate there on the first night and the food was a bit cold, and not great. Me and my mate ate out every night after that... The place we went to every night was called Fat Mama's....Absolutely brilliant!!! The food was well worth the prices... The most expensive thing on the menu was the steak, which was E27, but the steak is about 2 inches thick, and 6 inches across, and more fries than you could shake a stick at!!! The waistline took a bit of a pounding that week!!! They also do a bit of entertainment at about 10pm, which was good (especially the Coco Cabana routine where the hot waiter is topless apart from a dicky bow!!!!!)
The pools at Akti are very clean and are also quite warm, so bit like getting into a bath!!! If you want to guarantee a sunbed, you have to get up early, otherwise you will be disappointed..
The main pool looks directly out to sea, and there is a little path down to a cove, where you can have a dip in the sea, which is a bit cooler than the pools.. It is a bit pebbly though, so makes it a bit difficult getting in and out...
One word about the weather....HOT!! And very humid at night.... The air conditioning is a must if you want to sleep at night, and to be honest, I didn't think it was too expensive, it cost E29.75 for a week.
If you decide to walk to the main road from the hotel and take the road, you are in for a very long walk, but there is a dirt track at the back of the hotel, and this takes about 5 minutes. From reading previous reviews, I was expecting something resembling Everest, but it really is a small inclined track, and a little bumpy...Beats the other way, thats for sure!!! When you get to the main road, the bus stop is right there... The No 10 or 15 takes you to Coral Beach Bay... This is a lovely beach with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas.. You do have to pay for the privilege though... It cost E7.50 for two sunbeds and an umbrella.... They do have lots of watersports there, i.e jetskis, pedalos, banana boat etc... The water was also nice and warm there too....
If you want to go the other way from the main road, the No 15 takes you down Tomb of Kings Road, and to the harbour. The cost of a bus ride is E1.50, and this is to wherever you want to go, which to me was very good for the money.
Taxi's cost about E8 - E10 for going to the harbour or where the bars and restaurants are on Tomb of Kings Road....It is advised to ask the driver how much the fare is before getting in, so that they can't fleece you!!!
The Aphrodite Water Park is a good place to go for the day...This costs E1.50 by bus (No 15), and you get this back at the water park when you hand in your bus ticket. It costs E28 for adults and I think it was E15 for children... Its a good day out, and there are loads of sunbeds if you don't fancy going on the slides, and prefer to top up the tan!! The slides are pretty good but there are a lot of steps to keep climbing all day to get to them, so expect a good nights sleep that day!!!
Right...the Olympic rep, Chris..... Well thankfully I didn't have to have that much to do with him, but he didn't really make me instill a lot of faith in him.... He just didn't give off the vibe that he was that bothered, unless you were signing up for loads of trips that is!!!! He had zero enthusiasm, and the welcome meeting felt more like a church meeting!!! Me and my mate missed the initial meeting and a note was left on our apartment door informing us of another one, so we made the mstake of going to it!!! Boring!!! Unless you do want to go on loads of trips, I wouldn't bother...well you do get a free glass of orange....Woo pee do!!!!
All in all, I had a good holiday at Akti... It was a last minute holiday and only cost £350 for a week in the last week of August, so can't really complain.... There weren't really that many negative points, as I really only used the room as a base for sleeping....I think if I was on a budget and stayed completely at the hotel, then I would have felt differently..., Had never been to Cyprus before, but overall Paphos is a very pleasant area, and the locals are very friendly and accommodating...

We've today come back from a week at the Akti, it was all we could get on a late deal and I went with a lot of anxiety after reading some reviews online... so here's what I think, I hope it will help...
It's a bit out of the way, and I would recommend a Hire Car (in general for Cyprus anyway) as taxi's at 10-12 euro's a time mount up - BUT - the buses are VERY good, and are just 1.50 each and go between the three main points - Coral Bay, The Harbor and The Old Town (Market) and run every 10-15 minutes until 10pm.
The beach at the hotel isn't! It's coral! There is a small (very small) bay out the back of the hotel where there is a good are for swimming in the med, I recommend taking some goggles and checking out all the beautiful fish! Yet, for sunbathing, there are loads of deckchairs on the grass at the back on the hotel which is a nice way to spend an afternoon. If you're after a sandy beach you can get the bus to Coral Bay.
I read reviews about the cleanliness of the Akti online before, and on the first night we did have an attack of Ants in our room. Within 5 minutes of calling reception, the staff were up with sprays to cure the problem and it didn't effect us again for the rest of the week. I think one thing to point out is that Cyprus is a hot and dry island, and Ants are rife across the WHOLE island, everywhere has the little fellers, and they really don't bother you. If you do have some, spray the source, and relax. It's not because the hotel's dirty....BUT...Our room was generally clean, however it wasn't properly mopped or brushed out until 4 days in, and I suspect this is because we were in the room when the cleaner came, as she mopped and brushed it again the next day with us there.
If going SC, I recommend taking some supplies with you as the mini-mart on site is a bit pricey, as you'd expect really. There is a very good supermarket by the Harbor in 'Kato Pafos' where you can stock up. There is also a number of 'Kiosks' whick are just like a small Spar.
If you drive up to Troudos and decided to go to the Monastery with all the gold, make sure you keep to the MAIN roads, we took an 'f' road which was very scary! Gravel track with a good 200ft drop on the edge with no barriers!
CHOSE PAFOS NOT LIMASOL, we went for a day trip and were VERY disappointed, we made the bad situation good though by taking in all the Aphrodite and other archeological sites on the way. Don't take the Motorway (A6), take the B6 coast road, the views are breathtaking, and well worth it!
Would I go back to the Akti, probably not, and the only reason being as I would be taking the whole family and so would get a villa. If it was just the two of us, yes I would go back.
It's what it is, it's a Tourist Village. If you want to have somewhere to rest your head overnight before heading out in the hire car the next day, it's great!
GENERAL POINTS:
- The cars are right hand drive, and you drive on the same side as the UK, signs are in English and Greek.
- Electrics are SAME AS THE UK so no need for european adapters.
- Water is drinkable, but has high mineral content, bottled water is cheap
- A good restaurant is The Moorings on the harbor front, very nice!
Drop me an email to andy.downton@gmail.com if I can be of any more assistance.
