not for heels!

Hotel was lovely, dirt path to bus stop was awful, so dont wear heels and have spent 2 days washing white tops cause of all the dust. I would also say that you are a number and compared to Crete you will not be treated nicely, i wouldnt go back to Cyprus.

The akti is a lovely complex with great ammenities. There was a fun mini club for kids. The entertainment was good.Food choice was brilliant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The only downfall to it was the location as there is nothing in walking distance.Local bus services were very reliable and there is only 1 price for which ever journey you take.Paphos harbour is beautiful. The weather was exellent.Room and balcony was very spacious and cleanded regularly.

my first holiday abroad..
8 / 10

this was my first holiday properly abroad and i was very nervous about how the hotel would be but thankfully we had a really good time.
akti is a complex of 2 floor apartments with a central reception, 3 pools, restaurants, bar, gym and a small shop. i was pleasantly surprised by our room it was on the top floor, very spacious and clean. our balcony had a nice view and we could see a bit of sea even though it was inland view room. the apartments look attractive with small gardens along the paths. reception was pleasant enough, though i didnt think much of the restaurants. we had to use the one on the lower floor on the night we got there, as we couldnt find anywhere cheap to eat. it was an 'italian buffet'. since we were cautious about eating meat abroad we just opted for some salad and pasta which really wasnt worth the 15 euros it cost.(the waiter was quite offended we had hardly touched the food!'
the pools looked nice and clean though we didnt go in, and the sunbed area was nice with a good sea view. there isnt much of a beach there, its more of a pebbled cove that fits about 5 people; coral bay is definitely the place to go for beaches.
i had read the reviews on this site and was well prepared for 'the dirt path'which leads to the main road. believe me you CANT walk to paphos from the resort; its a long way, very hot and the road is abit dangerous to walk along. we rented a car for 3 days and though i didnt use much of the petrol, it was essential for getting to town, coral bay, and bringing groceries back. the main road is fine to drive along, though the cypriot drivers tend to pull out without warning so be careful!
the town has a market area and harbour both accessible by bus. there are lots of shops but not many had traditional cyprus goods which was a shame, they are mostly knock off brand handbags/belts and opticians.
we only ate at a couple of cafes as the food is quite expensive its about £6 for a mediochre jacket spud. the cheapest place we ate was opposite the tomb of the kings, and the nicest food we had was at the Hobo cafe at the end of the harbour.
theres plenty of historical sights to see within a close distance- tomb of the kings is 5 min drive from akti, and at the harbour you can see the fort, and roman mosaics. coral bay is about 15 mins away and is absolutely gorgeous, the water is shallow and there are watersports availible.
monarch offered several excursions like mountain safari, daytrip to cairo, and a trip to go snorkeling at the blue lagoon. we wanted to go on this trip but unfortunatley didnt get round to booking it. the reps and staff were fairly pleasant at the resort. there was a kids club and activities for younger children 6 days a week- probably not best for older children they may get bored at the resort.
the only bad things about the holiday were: mosquitos, they drove me mad. there werent many but i had to buy bug spray to sort them out.
also, we arrived at the resort late afternoon and were left feeling a bit deserted when it came to food. we didnt get a map or anything until the next day, and the receptionist told us we could find a cash machine 'just at KFC'. well that turned out to be about 2 miles away and we didnt know where we were going and had to settle paying a fortune for the resorts buffet. if you arrive late and dont have a car id recommend just getting beans and toast from the resort shop! there were a couple of restaurants on the main road but i dont know if they are any good.
The isolation of the resort will certainly be a problem for young children or people with walking difficulties - rent a car!
best thing about the holiday: weather, coral bay beach and just being able to relax on a clean and nice looking resort

First visit to Cyprus

Our first visit to Cyprus. Everything so well organized. Chris, the Olympic rep very helpful and informative. Everywhere spotless. Gardens all lovely and well cared for. Apartment spacious and well equipped. Pool areas very pleasant with plenty of sun beds. Food in restaurant excellent - plenty of choice and deserts to die for - no good if you,re counting calories! Although we were self catering we ate in the restaurant most of the time. We found all the staff very pleasant, courteous and helpful. We had a wonderful holiday and will definitely be back.
Maybe not too good for disabled due to getting luggage to apartment.

We have spent many years going to Cyprus and can say that for a late booking and using Olympic holidays for the first time, we were pleasantly surprised by the very efficient rep (Chris) and hotel staff. People should use the Rep service if it is their 1st visit to any country as they have a world of very good info about the area.
We are certainly looking to staying at the Akti Village on our next break in Cyprus.
Do not be fooled by comments made about staff and reps, they are false.
True, the accommodation (ours was brilliant) is a little of the beat track but enjoy the walks along the beach front, use local buses, and trips are no more than you pay in English towns/site seeing trips!!
Your on holiday, so enjoy good company and excellent food/wines if you want fish and chips and a pint then stay at home (preferably in the north)!!

Having read the reviews on line we were a little worried about staying at the Akti for 2 weeks. However we were very pleasantly surprised, the room (we had a 2 bedroom apartment) was extremely spacious, there was no problem with ants except for when my 2 year old dropped some biscuit on the floor, but the ants simply formed a line across the floor and removed the biscuit, when it was gone, no more ants.
The room was cleaned every day except Wednesday and Sunday, but we were left extra bin liners for both kitchen and bathroom. The cleaning staff were extremely friendly even if they could not speak much english.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Happy hour 3 times a day which was always nice. The rep was not so helpful and we did hear that the trips were far cheaper if you booked them at the Olympic office in Paphos.
If you are hiring a car, definatley go for Elephant Car as they were the best priced, always best to book advance on the internet. A car is a must unless you like catching buses.
Paphos itself is large and touristy, travel out to the mountains to see the true Cyprus. We found a marvelous cafe in Dora where we had traditional greek food and it was not expensive and also found another lovely taverna in the mountains.
All in all, we would definatley stay at the Akti again, the sunbathing facilities were very good and there is lots of room and the apartments were lovely.

first impression out of the way not in pafos as advertised in brochure (misleading). staff very helpful no signs of wildlife in the room 304 Air conditioning should be included not an extra. Site shop very expensive but cheaper supermarkets available in pafos town also in coral bay. Hired a car from rep (CHRIS) with hertz very expensive but necessary as we like to be independant. Booked one trip to blue lagoon well worth the E100 for both of us great company and reps on trip food on boat good and hot. Found a bar up the road (DIMMA) owner very friendly could not do enough for us. Pools on site very lean also accommodation kept clean except on wednesday . Olympic rep very approachable as were akti beach receptionists. Only went for a week but have booked to go back again this year for two weeks. Quiet resort but with the local buses only E1.50 for any journey not so bad. Avoid the local taxis back from pafos E20.overall very impressed with this resort

  • Advice: pafos town full of historic sites very entertaining
  • Activities: coral beach excellent but sand gets very very hot on feet

we had two lovely weeks stay at akti

we had read lots of negative reviews, not only about akti beach hotel but about the staff there.
let me say that all the staff were lovely, nouthing seemed to much trouble. chris our rep with olimpic was extreamly helpfull,[nice chap].we took our 13yr old son with us,and as its out of season we thought he might be bored, with no activities, but the animation team becky and makaila organised water polo, walks, and evening entertainment for us all which was great.
our studio was on the ground floor overlooking the pool,we had a kitchen ,oven,fridge,toaster,3 single beds one in the front room my only negative point was the beds were hard, but you get used to them.it was nice to sit on the balcony i think most of the rooms had one.we were half board the food in the restarant was varied they had themed nights ie italian, carvery, brilliant, george and staff were very attentive.
we did have a slight ant prob as you do in any hot country, take a small bottle of ant powder with you.the pools are lovely cleaned every day, nice to lay onthe loungers around the main pool with an[ Akti sunset ] drink, and enjoy the sea view.
there is no beach only a rocky coave.the nearest beach is coral bay.you realy do nead to hire a car, we had one for a week and did a couple of organised trips the other week.one was the jeep safari to the trudos mountains, visiting villages ,and a monistary, waterfall, off the beaten track that you would never find yourself.also the day trip to egypt is expensive but a memarable day, visiting the piramids, svinks, and a nile cruse well worth the money.
its a lovely walk into pathos along the coastal track i made it half way but have leg problems,so had to turn back only try it if your mobile.
we had a realy loveiy holiday and hope to visit again soon.

Not so good

Our first time to Akti Beach. The place is alright as a base if you intend getting about. A car is a must as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Buses run every 20 mins. or so but the walk to the road is 15 mins. up a dusty dirt track. The taxi drivers see a Brit as a euro on legs, right rip off merchants. There is a nice turfed area that overlooks the sea but the beach itself is all rock with no sand. My wife and me would take a bottle of gin and tonic and sit on the rocks watching the beautiful sunset each evening. About the drinks, they are expensive as is everything else at the hotel but you don't really have much choice. The shorts are seved by the measure out of the optics, unlike any other place where they pour you a good measure. They have bingo bango on every night plus 3 act per week. This place is a definate no no if you have children and to be quite honest with you I wish I had paid that little bit extra and gone to Protarus or Fig Tree Bay where there is a good variation of eveything you want. Going to Sharm El Sheikh this year as Cyprus is getting to be very expensive.

  • Advice: If you want a Cyprus holiday head towards Protarus but take plenty of money.
  • Activities: Coral bay is the only beach around but plenty of seaweed and they cram you in like sardines

Not for kids

Having had a week at Akti I will give my honest personal review. There isn't a great deal to do during the day, there is no sandy beach, just rocks and more rocks. There is a nicely laid out grassed area overlooking the sea but you can't just lounge all day every day. A car is relly needed as the hotel is on its own in the middle of nowhere. The buses run frequently but it's a good fifteen minute walk up a steep dirt track to get to the road. Everything you buy at the hotel seems quite pricey, including the drinks. The shorts are also pricey and served in optic measures. If you use a taxi ask how much first as they see a Brit as a euro on legs. If I sound a bit negative then I am sorry but I wouldn't use this hotel again. If we come to Cyprus again we will probably go to Protarus where there is more variety in what you can do. All in all the place is alright for a base if you intend to drive about and a definate no no for families.

  • Advice: Go to Protarus
  • Activities: The Tombs

Dont believe all the negative comments!

Ive just got back from spending a week in the Akti Tourist Village 15th - 22nd Nov 08.
Having read several negative comments on a number of sites about this hotel,we were quite apprehensive about what we were going to find when we got there! On arrival (20.15) we were greeted by the friendly staff on reception, because we had been delayed on the flight over we were given the option either to go for our evening meal first or check in. There were 6 people in my group, so we had 3 rooms. On collecting the keys, we made our way to the rooms. We were pleasantly surprised how spacious and clean they were! All rooms were overlooking the main pool and had views of the see. Even though we were half board, all the rooms had self catering facilities. The whole complex was very clean (rooms cleaned everyday except Wednesday and towels changed when guests required them to be). The food was very nice too (no chips made a nice change!). We attended the welcome meeting the day after we arrived, having read negative comments, we were sceptical about the rep Chris. When he made his opening speech, he claimed he was a different Chris! We dealt with him a few times in the week, booking various trips, hire car and asking questions, all of which he was happy to help with! We had no complaints about him! No different to other reps of other holiday companies. The hotel is a few kilometers from Paphos centre, but there is a very frequent bus service costing only 1.50 euro, taxi costs 10 euro. All in all we enjoyed our weeks holiday here, clean complex, friendly helpful staff and varied evening entertainment. Even the local residents came to the hotel to eat and for the entertainment, you cant get a better recommendation than that!
