Flatotel Hotel

I give it the three F's for Flat, Fair and Forgotten. We reserved a one bedroom suite for our wedding aniversary for a nice price. When we checked in we got a standard room with a double bed. Like what happened!!! When we talked to the front desk, they said that is what we reserved "a standard room". Even after showing them my reservations made from CRS systems for a one bedroom suite. I am a frequent visitor to NYC and have stayed at many of the larger hotels in the city. The Flatotel was a property I had wanted to stay at for some time...finally got the opportunity in April, 2005. The service was terrific. After an early morning flight, I arrived at the hotel just after breakfast, expecting to be told I could store my luggage until check-in time. We stayed in this hotel during October 2004. The room was spacious enough for New York standards and had all the necessities required during our stay (hairdryer, iron and ironing board, safe, tv etc). The carpet near the window was a little ripped but this did not affect our stay in any way. The room was clean and tidy and the maid attended every day to straighten our bed and replenish bathroom utilities. Yes, it's got that cool, chic, hip feel. Sort of. The service is near non-existent, though. And if you like your service cool--as in close to icy and about as flat and unpersonable as it gets--this is the place for you. Room was clean, small, okay. Bathroom disappointing. Elevators not clearly marked, and we ended up on the service floor, which we figured out upon being met by an employee who directed us back downstairs and to the proper elevator. We've just stayed at the Flatotel - arrived approx 10.15pm thursday night - on arrival we noticed that the safe in our room was broken - after sending someone to look at it who said it could not be mended till the next day, we asked to move our room. At approx 11pm they told us we could move and sent us to a smoking room - as we had requested non-smoking, this was unacceptable - so we asked to move to another room. You can not beat the location of this hotel. Walking distance to everything. The gym on the top floor is small but has a spectacular view. When you are checking in try and get the side not facing the street - we were on the 12th floor and because it is in front of a loading dock at night we could sometimes hear them load and unload the trucks ( we arrived on a Thurs by Friday, Sat, Sun the noise was much better). Have stayed twice at this hotel in Feb ’05 and found it to be at par with other 5 stars. Its conveniently located – close enough to walk to places, yet away enough to be quite. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed with great views of the city. The beds are very comfy and the bath nice. The in-house Moda restaurant offers excellent food but they take forever if u request room service. The staff is courteous and helpful. Overall a great place to stay be it on business or leisure. Would definitely stay here again.

I should have know when they messed up my reservation and tried to blame me. AT BEST this should be rated a 2 star hotel. The rooms are old and very worn. No pots in the kitchen, not even a COFFEE MAKER! The carpet had not been cleaned in so long it stuck to our feet and we had to avoid being barefoot. The automatic phone buttons (for the analog phone) do not work, but they don't tell you that, so you fruitlessly keep trying until you go downstairs to report the problem. No high speed internet. No premium movies on your tv. No controls... more

My boyfriend & stayed here Feb 12, hoping for a romantic evening, and we were disappointed. We were not expecting it to be as corporate as it was. We were given an executive suite, which was a medium-sized bedroom, a mini kitchen, a toilet room, and shower room. The walls were gray, with no artwork whatsoever. Very dull looking and unromantic. But, the king bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. The shower doesn't have a door or curtain, just a glass pane that comes out about 3 feet. I was COLD! stayed mid-january 2005. A bit surprised that this is a 4-star hotel. I'd hate to see a NY 3-star! Rooms were comfortable and clean, yet not overly nice as expected. Got room for $199 a night through Travelocity, but did not get what was promised (robes, 350 sq. ft. room, etc.). Was able to check-in early (10:00 a.m.).
