Doubletree Hotel Times Square Reviews

Stayed here on my first trip to New York, and I fell in love with the city. The hotel is in a perfect location. There are no complaints about that at all. Bang on Times Square, right in the hub of it all. They give you a cookie on arrival :O A nice, warm, choc chip, melting... more

Honest Staff
I was here 4 days and when leaving, I forgot to check the safe....I had left 800.00 CASH and my checkbook. When I arrived home, I panicked, knowing my cash would probably be taken. I called and housekeeping had found it and it was sent to me federal express. All of it was returned! Also the entrance staff into the hotel were very friendly and the location is excellent. I will stay there again definitely!!!
Great location!
I stayed with my 10 year old son at the Doubletree in April, 2004. The location is excellent if you plan on much subway travel (his favorite). The rooms are fine- two TV's eliminated a lot of angst after we got back to the room. Breakfast was pretty good-but S'Barro is right next door and they have a great breakfast for $5 too. Overall, a very goo choice.
suite rooms!
I just spent 4 nights at the doubletree guest suites NY. It's one of the nicest doubletree's i have stay at, The two room suites look nothing like motel 6 or the holiday inn like most hotels do. I found them very clean and well appointed. Make sure to have diner at the center stage cafe it's fantastic. I would stay here again only if the price right.
Okay..here's the truth
The only reason that we stayed here is because of the great reviews on tripadvisor. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I guess I'm kind of an expert. This hotel would be great if you are a family and don't want to pay for two rooms since you get a two room "suite" which I'm sure would work out great for more than two people. However, if you are just a couple stay somewhere with a more romantic atmosphere. The beds are very "Motel 6" and the place has no ambiance whatsoever. You will be very disappointed in their lobby and I can't even imagine this hotel pleasing the more advanced traveler. We paid over $200 a night and when we checked out the Sheraton NYC down the street we were upset that we didn't go there instead. On the upside the location is THE BEST. Right across from the Grayline double decker bus stop where you pay one price ($47) for a 48 hour pass to ride their bus anywhere and everywhere. If you decide to stay there anyway I must recommend the French Toast at the $17.95 breakfast buffet. It is the ONLY reason to eat there and it is fabulous.
Pretty darn good
This hotel is as convenient as it could possibly be. Great location, rooms are big and kitchenette's can't be beat. What could improve is the staff's attitude. I guess it's part of being from New York. I wouldn't say they were rude but they certainly aren't particularly nice or welcoming. This means so much to people when they are traveling, to have friendly helpful staff. I wish the Double-tree would work on that because it would really make this hotel perfect. Also the rooms are clean and adequate but they aren't luxurious or well appointed. Just standard, Holiday Inn type rooms. If they put some color in the rooms, made them a little classier that would be nice too. But having said that, you can't beat the price.
Great for first time visit
First visit to New York and the Hotel was perfectly placed to see the sights. Times Square is noisy and loud but the Hotel is unbelievably calm and quiet, as are the rooms. The staff were fine, some better than others and helped you when asked a question. Rooms very clean and a decent size, perfect for a family.
Great For Families
We stayed at this hotel primarily because of the great reviews on this site and we were not disappointed. The hotel was clean and well maintained, the staff was courteous and professional, and the location was perfect - right in the hustle and bustle of Times Square, convenient to theaters, shopping, and sightseeing. The suite set-up is great for families (we are a family of six and felt very comfortable here). The furnishings are not high-end, but the rooms are very functional, and best of all, clean, which was fine since we did not spend too much time in the room anyway. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Great Location, Very Rude Staff 3/29/04
I have stayed here numerous times and I can honestly say my last stay will be the LAST! What can I say, the location is great....but thats really the only positive thing. To begin with at Check-In I was never offered cookies. And only when I asked I was reluctantly given one only to be provided with a response that "if I wanted any more there would be an extra charge". The worse part of the stay was the breakfast. The cooks that they hire are probably right off the street. I have never been treated so rudely by restaurant staff. And sadly Doubletree never acknowledge my complaints. They simply don't care. It's New York people will pay any way seems to be their philosophy.
Great hotel, Great location
I returned a week ago from a 4 night stay at the Doubletree Guest Suites, Times Square. I was on a trip with 5 of my friends. The hotel accomodated us very nicely with connecting rooms, which are generous sized suites. The staff was friendly and helpful at every level--from the checkin, the concierge, the bellmen and the wait staff in the restaurant. The restaurant had an excellent full service breakfast buffet that we took full advantage of each morning. The Times Square location was great! We caught the tour bus across the street, were within a few blocks of our broadway shows, and were also within walking distance of good shopping and restaurant choices. I was so pleased with the hotel and the location that our family has decided to stay there this summer.
A Good, Clean & Safe Place to Stay!
We've just returned from our stay at the Doubletree, and we too had a good experience. We stayed in a 2 room suite which was clean and the beds comfy. The decor was a bit drab but OK. We were worried that it might be noisy given the location, but it was fine and we all slept well, occasionally stirring to the sound of a siren in the street below. But hey, we were in New York!! The security at the main entrance was very good and we felt safe ( we were 3 girls in our party). We didn't bother using the bar/restaurant there as we felt it was pretty souless with no atmosphere, but I'm sure if we had it would have been adequate (albeit rather empty).Check out the cafe next door to the Edison Hotel across the street for breakfast, and the bar at the W Hotel is seriously trendy and does a mean cocktail!Times Square is a good central location for sightseeing and transportation, with good shopping and lots of places to eat! We would definitely stay at the Doubletree again.
