Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan Hotel Reviews

Had an amazing time in New York, though a nightmare getting there. What with delays at Heathrow and then not getting any luggage until the end of the holiday! But that did not put a damper on the holiday at all. New York is a fantastic city and the hotel was incredible.... more

Overall, pretty good
Arrived 12/7 after a transatlantic flight expecting 2 adjoining rooms (for us and the kids). Were told that there were NO adjoining rooms available (despite booking request having been made in February). Were allocated 2 rooms on the same floor, one being 'almost' ready and 1 being 'about an hour'. Checked in the 1st when it was available, but after 5 returns to the desk over the next 3 hours, were told the 'other' room was in fact still occupied by a Flt Crew member with a 7 p.m. checkout - WHY could we have not being advised this earlier when we arrived with 2 very tired kids who needed to shower and get freshened up. When we EVENTUALLY got into our rooms, they were both a good size with great views (45th floor). The location of the Hotel was excellent, with easy access to subway, shops etc etc. Despite the initial problems mentioned, I would recommend this Hotel and use it again - just wish they'd improve their Front desk communication!
Loved Crowne Plaza Times Square
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Times Square over Labor Day of 2003! We arrived several hours early due to an early flight and we were going to leave our luggage to be checked into a room as soon as they got one ready! To our surprise they had our room ready, 5 hours early, and we got to go ahead and check in! My stay was nothing less than fantastic and I enjoyed my view of Times Square from the 22nd floor! The room was gorgeous and the staff was exceptional! I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone, especially for your first visit to NYC!
Perfectly Average Hotel
I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza Manhattan for 2 nights. First the positives: 1) The location is absolutely fantastic, about a block away from a subway station and two blocks from Times Square. 2) The rooms are larger than the typical NYC hotel room and 3) We were able to check in at 11:00 am. I don't have any strongly negative comments, but some things I felt could have been improved: 1) While the beds had new linens, the room was very tired and the furniture was old. 2) There is no Air Conditioner, just a centralized temperature control system, which on a very hot and humid day does not do the trick. Moreover, the sound of the air coming out of the vent was very annoying, especially while trying to sleep. 3) For some reason, there were some moths living in our room. Our first night, I saw one flying around and then killed it. Our second night, the same thing happened again. A small nuisance, but quite annoying nevertheless. All in all, the place was okay, but for the rate I paid (170$) per night, I think there are much better alternatives.
Good location, terrible service
This hotel is possibly the best located in New York. It does, however, have possible one of the worst check in desks in the world. We were given our room key and it did not work - when the occupent came out we realised thay had given us the wrong room number. They gave us another room number and that also did not work. Finally, after three goes we had a room. The rooms were very tired and just of average decor. The desk also neglected to tell us that we needed a seperate key for the minibar - another trip down to the desk. We did get a great rate for this hotel and everything else was OK. However, expect many trips to the desk and a long wait for service each time.
We keep going back time after time!
We have visited the Crowne Plaza Time Square probably 5 or 6 times so far. The location is tremendous--right in the heart of everything and within walking distance to subways, bus lines, and cabs at your beck and call outside the hotel. The views from the corner rooms are incredible, and we have never had anything but superb service. During the blizzard of 2003, we were stranded an extra 3 nights--what a treat! The hotel manager lowered the rates for those of us who were staying, helped us find alternative flights home after the airport opened, and were generally unquestionably the best. We will be back in October of 2004 and again on Valentine's weekend of 2005.
Great View - Diabolical Food
The view from the 31st corner room looking out over Times Square was great. We felt we were in the heart of everything. Even the room service brakfast was Ok but when we attmpted a dinner at the Restaurant the food was diabolical. It was clear that whoever was in charge had no "feel" for food. However having said that yes we would recomend the hotel - just watch out for the Restaurant.
Superb Location
Booked a double non-smoker for 7 nights from 13 July 2004. Arrived around 10pm to discover they had no such room available for the first night and was given a large suite with fold down bed on a smoking floor. This was a very poor start but it was rectified the following morning when we were transfered to a non-smoking king-size on the 37th floor with superb corner views to Times Square and along Broadway. The initial room was somewhat dated but the king-size room was more recently decorated & in good condition. The only other hotel service we used was the bar - pleasant enough but expensive even for Times Square. Staff overall were fairly slow & lacked charm. I have given the hotel four stars but feel this is perhaps too generous however three stars seems mean given our satisfaction with the second room. We book via Octopus & paid a rate of £110/night.
Loved it!!!!
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary in the BIG APPLE. The hotel was perfect!!! The service was great. The front desk was friendly, helpful and genuinely pleasant. The room on the 44th floor was superb!!!! They gave us a corner room with a great view. The reviews for this hotel were not great, so I was a little nervous. I am glad we kept the reservation. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Good location but not so great service
We stayed here for one night on 20th June. They messed up our booking for a deluxe room and instead we got a standard room - nice but tired decor and very noisy AC unit. The people at the front desk were relatively unsympathietic and unhelpful. I have a feeling this was not a typical Crowne Plaza experience but disappointing never the less.
Loved the Crowne Plaza at Times Square
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Times Square for four nights. It was exceptionally clean and comfortable. All of the employees were very courteous and helpful. The location is fabulous. I highly recommend it for anyone.
