Chelsea International Hotel reviews

Whilst I heard that New York is sweltering in the Summer, what I got was something rather unexpected. Not just a heat wave, a heat heat heat wave! With temperature into the 100 of, it was not ideal and clothes were changed at a rate of 3 items a day. The Hostel is nice and... more

Loved this place!
I just got back from a six night stay at the Chelsea Hostel (March 2006) I was pleasantly suprised at this place and it was better than I had imaged. I stayed in a dorm room all females which had bunks with 8 beds in a long narrow room with shower and bathroom. It was clean and safe with lockers in the room. There was an outside courtyard area that you could sit in on the evening and have a drink or two. Also a common room with TV and kitchen with microwave and everything needed plus free tea and coffee. They also had internet access which... more
great location
This hostel was very clean, sheets and blankets were supplied, and there were also lockers (bring your own lock) in the rooms. It's a pretty big place, and it is close to a police station. i was a woman travelling alone, and i felt safe walking around chelsea late at night. It is a gay area, so if you have a problem with that, id say to stay elsewhere. there is a great bagel shop called "murrays bagels" on 8th Ave, between 21st and 22nd streets. thumbs up for this hostel.
The Chelsea International
Well located for sightseeing- public transport (5 minutes away from a bus stop and not much more from the subway). Loads of choice for eating out nearby. Felt very safe at all times of day & night- NYPD precinct just across the street. I stayed for 10 days in a private room- little space for more than a bed and a chair- nowhere to put away any clothes or other such stuff. It was a mild November but the radiators were on full blast with no way of turning them down or off- I had to keep the window constantly open. Another downside... more
NYC Study Tour ROCK ON!! Go2 this hostel!!
Hey Everyone, I just came back from New York, (i am from good ole oz!) i stayed in this hostel for over 3 weeks and it was awesome. It is pretty clean and the beds are alright with plenty of bedding/blankets supplied. The only downside was it had not many appliances to use in the kitchen, very basic and they didn't even have an oven, just stove top and microwave and fride and kettle. You have to be out of the courtyard at 10pm so most people then head into the common room/kitchen and party on till midnight until they get kicked out of... more
It was good
You get what you pay for. How can you be dissapointed by a hostel where you pay 20-30 $ a night? It's a place to stay. You only have to sleep there. The people who worked there were nice. I stayed there for 11 nights and I was very satisfied. I would stay there again. I recommend it highly. The location is central, and quiet. It's 3 streets away from the subway at 23rd street. And last but not least: FREE pizza wednesday night! There are delivered over 35 pizza's, so you can get as much as you want! Grocery... more
Enjoyed the stay
I stayed there for three days, enjoyed it very much except the first night. This was my first hostel stay, guessing I am gonna do it more. I stayed in a private bunk room the first night. It was on the third floor, very small, without even a chair. The bathroom and shower are outside. In fact, this wasn't what bothered me. I tried to sleep around 11pm because I had an early morning coming. I finally went to sleep at about 3am. There were constantly people coming up the stairs, slamming the doors, talking loud. I felt I was waked every... more
Very good hostel!
After readin some of the reviews to this hostel, I was a bit weary of actually going there. When I arrived I thought I was in a different place altogether! The hostel is very accomodating, welcoming athmosphere and with nice rooms. The bed was confortable, the toilet was clean and so was the room. The staff was helpful and the area absolutely great. I doubt there is a better hostel in NY. If we are talking value for money, you should definitely try this hostel. If you are looking for hotel quality, then don' write nasty reviews and... more
Two thumbs up!!!
My stay at the Chelsea International Hostel was very fun! It was very clean, and comfortable. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet. The staff is extremely helpful and very nice. I would recommend this place to everybody! I will definately go back at this hostel!
a good experience for a good price
the Chelsea International Hostel is definitely a nice place to stay if you're not looking to spend a lot on accomodations. we stayed in a private room (shared bath) and it was pretty much all we needed - a place to keep our bags during the day and somewhere to rest our heads at night. the private room was simple and tiday. we saw the cleaning ladies come every day to clean the halls and the bathrooms (they only clean bedrooms if you ask at the office). it's not too shabby, quiet, and accessible. it's in a really nice part of the city,... more
pretty cool
This hostel was really cool, met loads of excellent people there, I loved the fact the dorms were off the central courtyard. Stayed in 3 different dorms there (we went up to Boston then back to NY again etc) all have 6 beds, big lockers, private bathrooms (great showers) though none of the dorm baths doors locked, but it was fine, same sex dorms and all that (though my female friend had a locking bathroom door in her dorm) There were two kicthens, nice and clean. Although the maids always cleaned the kitchens at lunch time which was v.... more
