We stayed at The Bentley for 9 nights and could not ask for more. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you!! We asked to be changed to a bridge facing room and we were catered for immediately. The rooms are very clean, large, and spacious. Air conditioning... more

The hotel is ideally located for easy access to the whole of NYC. Foyer to hotel was very modern. We were on the 5th floor and had nice views. The room was average size (although not very big which we had expected). It was made up of a lovely decor and very clean. The... more

Stayed here for a week, great place to stay. We thought that we would get a free up grade when booking on line, but it turned out it was a web site that expedia used, but was not correct. However we told reception of the deal we expected, and also I had printed out the... more

Hotel was fabulous, although we were promised an upgrade before going for our honeymoon but they did not give it us when we got there. The view from the room was excellent and it was a clean, good sized, modern room. There was also free coffee from the foyer. New York is... more

good hotel
I booked this hotel at the begining of the year through a British tour operater and was pleased at the look of it from its web site, then I found this web site 2 weeks before we were due to travel. After reading some of the reviews to my horror I decide to try and swap hotels to one with a better rating but due to the republican convention being in town that weekend there was no more 4 star hotels left so I deciced to risk it!. We arrived in New york on time from the uk about 1.30pm and arived at the hotel at 3pm and was met at the shuttle bus by a porter who before you knew it had the bags in side. We then checked in and was taken up to our room, which when we entered found it was occupied, luckly no one was in there at that time to save our embaresment. This was rectiffed by the desk and we got a room on the 6th floor looking out at the bridge.... oh yes and the dreaded petrol station. The room was quite, very clean, ok the furnature wasnt of the standard of the ritz and the bed was comftable. The petrol station did not bother us at all we did hear it and at the end of the day if i wanted a view of scenery i wouldnt have come to the capital of skyscrappers. The hotel I would class as a 3 star back in britain and the staff arnt quite up to the happy souls down in Disney Florida but after seeing times square and how busy that was, how does any one sleep in those hotels at night. ok the bently isnt a 2 min walk to the attractions but they are easy got to, a cab far cost be $7 from times sq. if you turn left out of the bently and cross York street the Ritz cafe is on the corner and it is cheap, clean and the food was good, great for any Brits who have travelled over and are hungry and tired if you cary on up 62nd u will cross 1st and 2nd Av eventually coming to 3rd Av turn left and Bloomingdales is down there about a 15min walk. If you decid to walk (as we did ) to times sq for the tour bus it trakes about 1 hour and several blisters. I would stay at the bently again as it was safe, quite, clean and cheap, the baggels in the morning was a good idea but as a revier said the resturant could be stunning and they would be right the view is stunning, but it reminds me more of a school dinner hall.
Weird and Creepy
If all you need is a place to sleep, The Bentley is o.k., the views are great, but the furniture is tattered and dirty and the bathroom is very odd. I do not recommend eating here for any meal, the food tasted stale and sorta like Chef-Boy-R-Dee. The staff leers at you creepily and you feel like you're in some weird foreign film version of "Eyes Wide Shut". The location is convenient for the price, but this hotel looks like it's badly in need of some renovations and deep cleaning. P.S., the walls are paper thin, you hear everything.
Pleased with the Bentley
We just returned from 3 nights at the Bentley Hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. The price was right, the location was good (a good walk or a short cab ride to Park Ave. and Times Square - either way, enjoyable) We would definately return as the rooms were clean and nicely done, and for a hotel around the $130 price range, well worth the expenditure!
A Nice Surprise
I spent three days in New York at the Bentley. I'd booked it without knowing where it was in relation to anything else and without having heard anything about it. I'd booked it because it was cheap!! I decided to find out a bit more and found myself on this website where I read the reviews and whilst overall it seemed OK, I was starting to get a bit nervous, "it's too far out" "taxis don't stop", "the staff are unhelpful", "there are bugs in the rooms" all seemed to stand out far more than the good aspects. I am a young woman (so I like to think!)who was travelling alone in a big city where I knew no-one. I had a corner room on the top floor but one, overlooking the Queensboro Bridge. The room was large, clean if a bit tired, air conditioned with good linen and a spotless bathroom. The staff were helpful, friendly and very amenable. I could have checked in to the room already assigned to me but if I waited to check in until later in the afternoon (yes I could leave my bags there and come back later) they had a room available with a better view and why didn't I go with her now and see if I thought it was worth waiting for, I did and it was. Whilst up there she showed me round the upstairs bar and lounge area where the complimentary breakfast, coffee, juice and bagels was served every morning, with an outside terrace. The lobby was an oasis of elegant calm where a coffee machine served complimentary coffee all day. The walk from the hotel to Lexington took 7 minutes and I'm very unfit so it wasn't that far out at all I can highly recommend this hotel as a safe pleasant place to stay. I paid £75 per night including tax
We were pleasantly surprised
We booked the hotel on the internet - the price was good and the hotel looked nice. Then we found this site and read some of the negative reviews. We began thinking we made a mistake in choosing the Bentley. So before we arrived we shortened our stay at the Bentley to 4 days and booked two nights at a 4 star hotel in the heart of Time Square at about twice the cost. We just returned from NY and we were happier with the Bentley than the 4star hotel (even without factoring in the cost.) I was glad we were aware of the negatives of the Bentley * the Bentley is quite far from the subway but the bus/subway combination metro pass worked great for us, we enjoyed seeing NY on the bus * it is in a residential area attached to the gas station, not very glamorous when you first arrive, but kind of fun to be in with NYers and not just tourists all the time * we didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, found a lot of good choices one block up on First St. *free breakfast was only bagels, not my favorite, but at the 4star hotel - nothing was free. Their continental breakfast of bagels and pastries was $16/person What we liked, the room was spacious, really a one bedroom suite with a door to close off the bedroom, and two tvs (great with kids!). Room was clean, with nice decor (no bugs!) View from top floor was great and we felt comfortable just hanging out there without drinking/eating. Hotel workers were friendly and helpful. We would definately stay at the Bentley again if we were going to NY.
Just Lovely!!!
I would stay there again. Hotel lobby and rooms are nice. Everybody that woked there were extremely helpful and kind. The lounge on the 21st floor could use some work, but you could see the New York skyline from up there, it's beautiful at night. The location is ok, if you don't mind walking a few blocks. The closest subway is on 59th and Lexington - the hotel is on 62 and York. Overall - a nice experience! I LOVE NY!!!
Fine
The Bentley was just fine - not overly luxurious, but not horrible or scary. They messed up on my wakeup call, the elevator was a little dodgy, and the staff was definitely not friendly, but for one night at a good rate, it was fine. The bus stops right across the street, and it will get you across town in no time. Clean, too.
Don't
I booked this hotel on line. Description on website was good, in reality the hotel was awful. We only stayed one night. Take my advise and don't stay here.
Bentley Isn't Bad
For less than $130 a night, the Bentley is a good choice. If you're paying more than $130, you can probably do better. We stayed at the Bentley from July 26-29. Here's what we found... POSITIVES * When we checked in the staff was friendly. We had a few questions and they answered them all. * The room and bathroom were very clean and good sized. I had heard some New York City hotels had very cramped spaces, but this room was like many other hotels I'd stayed throughout the United States. The marble bathroom was nice. * The continental breakfast on the top floor is only bagles with milk or juice. No, it's not fancy. But it's a nice start to the day if you're not interested in a big breakfast. NEGATIVES * Location. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest subway station. And it's not a walk you want to make at night. Although the area appears to be fairly safe, there are very few walkers at night. If it's after dark, plan on taking a cab (about $10 fare from Midtown). The bus is an option, with a stop nearby. But standing around waiting for a bus gets kind of old. * The restaurant. The service for dinner was poor. They can't keep a drink refilled. And when we asked about something for which we were overcharged, their response was: "This is a New York City restaurant." Don't waste your time or money on the restaurant. The only reason we ate there was because a rainy night forced us to stay in. If rain keeps you in, order from a restaurant that delivers to your room. WORTH NOTING When making reservations, ask for a room up high with a view of the East River. It's a nice view and significantly beats the alternatives. A room down low appears to have the potential for noise and an unattractive view of the Mobil gas station located right out front.
I'll be back
I and a friend visited The Bentley in February 2004. It was my first visit to NYC so did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel; I loved the decor, the free coffee machine in the lobby and the service was very welcoming. The hotel is out of the way, but this is something I wanted - having seen some of the hotels on Broadway and near other bustling places like Times Square, I was glad to get away from the noise at the end of the day. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast - bagels, tea/coffee and juice. This is a great way to start the day. Like someone else mentioned, why on earth would you want to eat in your hotel when in NYC? I don't get it! The rooms were lovely. We had a view of the apartment building opposite, but so what? I was in NYC! If I wanted permanent great views I would have camped out on the top of Empire State Building for the duration of my stay. The nearest subway was about 4 blocks away but that was perfect - it gave us the opportunity to have a good look at our surroundings. I found the concierges helpful and courteous. They looked after our bags on our last day to enable us to squeeze every last miniute out of our trip. I do have two main gripes however. First of all, the air conditioning was horrible. We couldn't get the temperature right which resulted in me returning home with a nasty cold. Secondly, I had arranged to meet up with a friend who lives in the city. I told him where to contact me but the message was not passed on. I was furious. What if that had been a member of my family trying to contact me in the case of an emergency? Having said that, I'm planning a return trip in a few months. Those of you that like noise 24/7 I suggest you find somewhere on Broadway. Those of you that like the idea of staying somewhere less touristy, try The Bentley.
