As a family of 4 [all adults] we stayed at The Avalon in June 2006. I would definitely recommend it. The location was excellent, just across the road from the Empire State Building and within walking distance of Times Square and other local attractions. The staff were... more

Great Little Hotel, Clean, Nice Room
from A TripAdvisor Member
I just stayed at The Avalon during the June 12th weekend with my wife to see a broadway show and we loved it. We stayed in the executive suite, great room and definately worth the upgrade. The room has a jacuzzi tub and a very nice, large bathroom. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The employees were very nice and helpful. We called the front desk for ice and less than 5 minutes later, an ice bucket was delivered to our room. The valet parking was nice and easy. The hotel is a bit small, but I will definately stay here on my next trip to N.Y.C. Definately an unknown gem in the big city.

Loved the Avalon
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband I booked the Avalon based on other TripAdvisor reviews and were pleasantly surprised. While I think the upgrade to Jr. Suite may be a ruse to make one think they're getting something special, who cares? We had a very quiet room on the 11th floor, with a king sized bed, huge bathroom with dual sinks and a sitting area with a computer/internet access - great for making daily sightseeing plans and dinner reservations. Other than the lack of water pressure in the shower, this is a great hotel. It's close to the subway so you can get to anywhere from this location.

Have just returned from a 4 nights stay at The Avalon and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is clean, the staff helpful and courteous. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again on our next trip to New York.
Good location, friendly staff

We stayed in this hotel 5/25-5/31 and it was very nice surprise, I was little afraid after reading review so I called before we arive make sure everything will be ready and we had view to Empire State building, nice clean room, very friendly staff helping us to catch a taxi every time and they where very nice. We just had complain about the a/c which is very loud. Complimentary breakfeast is very nice gesture from hotel. I will stay here again....the hotel is great location for shoping and getting around. Everybody must try the japaneese bufet next door...it is exelent. We did not wanted to eat enywhere else! It is 25 $ for dinner but you can try everything and it was worth every penny.
Absolutely great

We had a fantastic stay last week at the Avalon. The rooms were booked using an internet site where we asked for a quiet, non-smoking room which they kindly arranged for us. The room was large, clean, in great condition with a separate sitting room area and a very smart bathroom. Towels and bed linen were changed daily. For those visiting NY for sightseeing and shopping its mid town location is perfect and you even get a glass of champagne to celebrate your arrival! There is free internet access (which is a little slow) and very helpful staff. When our cab back to the airport didn't show, they arranged a private cab for us which arrived in 5 mins, only charged $45 (plus toll and tip) and took all the shortcuts to avoid the permanent traffic jams around JFK. We really couldn't fault the Avalon - but then again, maybe us Brits are easier to please?!

I just made a phone call to asked for price and the spanish lady told me that deluxe room cost 199$, I did not have my credit card so I called again 10 min. later and somebody else told me 215$ for night.???!!!!!!! They were very unhelpful. I am not going to stay here!
Great little hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Avalon in September 2003. Since it was our first visit to NYC, our goal was to take in as many touristy sites as possible, so a central location was very important. I found the hotel to be exactly as expected. The room was clean and spatious, with a wonderful view of the top of the Empire State Building. I've heard that NYC hotels can be small for the price you pay, but I found our suite to be very roomy - it came with a small seating area where we could watch tv after a long day of seeing the sites. Since we were vacationing in NYC, neither of us thought to bring a laptop. We also found the in-room computer to be very handy in helping us research the next day's itinerary. The staff were cordial and friendly, and were great about storing my bags since we arrived prior to check-in time. My only negative comment is that the restaurant was a bit lack lustre. The buffet breakfast that was included was cold and bland, if not just generally depressing for the lack of options. The location is convenient, but not *that* convenient. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to the subway and Macy's, 20 minutes from Time Square. I found that there was nothing really in our area, other than the Empire State Building and some great boutiques on the way to the subway. None of the restaurants in our area appealed to us, so we did not try any of them - although one restaurant did claim that they were featured on Seinfeld. Next time I go to NYC, I think I'll stay in SoHo. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.
great room, location, staff
from m101
Hi, We stayed here from 18th to 21st. When we arrived they were booked up adn didnt have a room for us, they were very apologetic, gave us cash for a cab, and transfered us to another hotel in Times Square, a bit disappointing but it worked out well in the end. Our stay in Avalon was great, the staff were very helpful, and breakfast was sufficient. We got a lovely quiet room at the back. Room was spotless and had all of the facilities you would expect. I loved my stay here and would definaley recommend it!!
Loved It, Loved It, Loved It!

My teenage daughter and I stayed at The Avalon from April 6 - 10, 2004. We loved the hotel and will definately stay here again. The staff was absolutely wonderful, the hotel was perfectly clean, and our junior suite was the perfect size. This hotel is in the perfect location, (busy during the day and much calmer in the evening). I was told by a friend to stay at a Time Square hotel....NO WAY! Time Square is wall to wall people, even after midnight. Avalon's location on 32nd Street is perfect for shopping, (unless your looking for high dollar designer wear which is further north, between Time Square and Central Park). It is also conveniently located one short block from a subway stop. The only reason I did not give this hotel at 5* rating is that adjusting the thermostat seemed to be useless (it was a little too warm), and the lack of water pressure.

We were really pleased when we arrived at the Avalon. It looks great on its website and for once the reality was just as good. It was far cheaper and the room a lot better than the one at Radisson Lexington that we stayed in last time we were in New York. It's only a... more
