As a family of 4 [all adults] we stayed at The Avalon in June 2006. I would definitely recommend it. The location was excellent, just across the road from the Empire State Building and within walking distance of Times Square and other local attractions.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms spotlessly clean and the air conditioning was essential in June. The hotel breakfast was excellent and kept us going all day. There is a very good deli just across the road if, like us you are just too exhausted to go out in the evening.
An excellent hotel and I would stay here again.

We were really pleased when we arrived at the Avalon. It looks great on its website and for once the reality was just as good.
It was far cheaper and the room a lot better than the one at Radisson Lexington that we stayed in last time we were in New York.
It's only a block away from the Empire State and, much to my wife's delight, only a couple of blocks from Macy's.
There are also plenty of places to eat and drink in the nearby area around Herald Square.
Our room was modern and clean with a coffee maker and a huge TV.
There is a restaurant although we didn't use it. The staff are friendly and helpful and it would be our first choice on another trip to New York.
