The staff was somewhat friendly. We were there early so we needed to have them store our luggage while we went to a show. The luggage was stored in the lobby, which was incredibly small. When we got to our rooms (we had two non-smoking rooms) they both smelled heavily of... more

There was only 1 good thing about this hotel and that was the location there were plenty of eating places. As for the hotel some of the staff were very rude, our first room was a disgrace with stained carpet and a toilet that kept flushing continuous. The second room was a... more

Absolutely fine
After reading the reviews posted here, I didn't know what to expect and was prepared for the worst. I was travelling with my fiancee and made the booking myself so I was quite nervous! Well, we got room 201, which is on the 2nd floor - so we could climb up the stairs, which was quite good since the lifts seem to be on and off. The room was great. Not big, but big enough for 2 to have luggage all over the place. The bed was great (the mattress was excellent) and the sheets clean. Unlike other travellers who have posted here, our... more
Comfortable and Safe
I stayed at this hotel with my baby cousin for three nights in June, and we were perfectly happy with our stay. I got a really great deal on the hotel, and was very pleased that the hotel offered 2 double beds rather than just 2 twin beds or one double bed. After reading some of the reviews, though, I was a bit tentative about what we would find when we arrived. However, we were both very pleased with our stay. We arrived at noon, and even thoug check in is not until 3:00, our room was ready so se were able to go ahead and check in. The... more
Ok
We stayed here last summer for five nights. Rooms were basic but very clean, no breakfast, although there are plenty of diners serving breakfast nearby. Good location, close to subway. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Ideal if you are looking for somewhere to rest your head at night.
Very Untidy - Out of Date
I stayed at this hotel for one month during a working trip to New York. The hotel was very unclean, dusty and the bed clothing was stained and some times to small for the bed. The room was small, and certainly the room shown on the internet does not mirror the real thing. The only thing that was tidy and clean was the bathroom area, sometimes I often wondered what the floor was like to sleep on as an alternative to the bed that made me feel dirty. I would encourage you shop for a better hotel !
my dirty smelly hotel
Keep out one of the dirtiest I ever been in.Hotel is very smelly. Furnitures are sticky probably no one cleans themcarpet is very dirty. You open the window and you see old cigarete on the windows. Great location but I had been in Newton hotel which is on the same block and it was a clean and cheaper hotel (rooms are smaller)
Good value for the money
I was a little uncertain about staying here, given the mixed reviews, but overall was pleasantly surprised, and I feel the hotel offers good value for the money. The room (1 Queen bed) was small, but certainly sufficient in size and not at all out of line with similar priced NYC hotels I've stayed at in the past. The desk staff were cooperative and generally friendly. Housekeeping could be improved...the carpet needed a good vacuming and towel restocking was erratic. And as noted in other reviews, the sheets don't properly fit the mattress,... more
Good neighborhood, crummy place.
We paid a premium price here. The room was small and smelled like smoke. Some amenities you would expect, like a proper ice bucket, clean walls--were non-existant. All of this would be OK if it was cheap, but it was super expensive. Worse of all when you went into the bathroom at night there would be like 6-8 cockroaches scurrying about, with cockroach shells under the mirror. Yucko man.
basic, clean and safe
After reading reviews of this hotel, i was worried about what we were going find. Once arrived at the hotel, i found the staff were very helpful and friendly whilst checking us in to a suitable room. The room was quite spacious, clean and not at all dirty as previously claimed in other reviews. The rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels and bed linen. The only bad thing about this hotel is the location. Although there are many shops and restaurants nearby, it is quite far away from most attractions which have to be reached by the... more
Hidden Costs
First off, when we arrived at the hotel there were not any available rooms so we had to wait in the very small lobby. When we got to our room, it was not bad for the money we paid. However, they do not use fitted sheets. When you wake up in the morning be prepared to find the mattress. The only other problem we had with the room was the water. If you want to make sure that you will have water, take your shower at night or early in the morning. Anytime between 9:00 and 11:00 in the morning you will not have ANY water. Our other problems... more
Budget minded and convenient
Growing up around New York I had some low expectations of the "quality" of the hotel but was pleasantly surprised by the location and cost of the hotel. I looked into spending my spring break with my girlfriend and it was a perfect week. Though the beds could have been firmer and the rooms were a bit drafty at times, I would recommend this recently renovated hotel to the tourist or the weekender. For a romantic time with all the bling of New York head to the Waldorf, but for a comfortable stay without too much hassle stay here.
