We have just returned from here and have had a great holiday - We went all inclusive the food was really good, lots of choice avaliable. you could eat almost all day if you wanted to there is so much time that food is avaliable. Drinks both alcoholic and non ( pineapple juice is fab ) avaliable all day. The only down side was the fairly limited entertainment and the slightly grumpy waiters ( who if you just took with a pinch of salt are ok). walls a bit thin - but no problem really- would go back !!

Went to calella palace june 2011 worst holiday of my life, German student's must have been 300 of them , They were pouring water over balconys at people throwing ice cubes at children in swimming pool, smoking bongs then empty the remains over balconys they were very rude. Pushing everyone that got in there way . Complained to manager most night , You were only allowed 1 drink per person and there were 3 in my family i could'nt go up with 3 card's and get 3 drink's i was only allowed too get 2 which you waited 20 mins for , Staff behind bar were very unpleasent there was a few that would smile at you. Booked all inclusive what a waste of time. This is the first hotel we have been to that use optics. This hotel is not for british people its more like a 18 to 30 but with no music.Entertainment is very poor the olympic is the same full of german student's

I usually read these reviews with a pinch of salt and prefer to make my mind up by having a holiday, usually its that they are good.
However, please be very careful at the Calella Palace or going on any "HTOP allocated on arrival". We have just returned from an awful holiday at this 4* hotel. The hotel is ok, although not sure why its a 4*, seems to be 3* to me, the food is good, staff Ok, but some of the guests are dreadful.
Some of these reviews talk about German 'Students'. They are not students linked to higher education, but are school leavers who get rewarded by the German Government with a free holiday for staying at school! They ought to use the money to bail out the Greeks and the Euro zone.
We were at this hotel at the end of June 2011 and there were at least 100 rude, inconsiderate, noisy, drunk teenagers running around the hotel at all hours being completely unbothered by any supervision. The ones with them that were meant to give some discipline were joining in, or didn't have the backbone to stop their noise or drunkedness. All the German 'children' specialised in queue jumping at the bar.
If I had known about them staying at his 4* hotel i would definitely not have gone anywhere near this hotel, so be warned.
I never have written a bad review, but these 'guests' and this hotel are something to be avoided by anyone wanting a decent holiday. Please be warned and don't take it lightly.

i stayed with my husband in this hotel in early june, the weather wasnt terrific but the hotel was fine, yes there were a lot of german students there and yes they were all drinking and some were noisy but they were on holiday too, they did not bother us, the restraunt was too busy at times but we just went a bit later and it was ok, the food was very good and is constantly changed throughout the meal times, loads to choose from, we normaly eat out quite a lot even on ai but we didnt need to, would love to know what the people moaning about the food eat at home, and why the need to take fruit from the restraunt after your meal when you could go back an hour later and help you self ,there was also bread available with every meal so if you wanted a sandwich you could make one as there was plenty of cooked meats, cheese and other stuff. we found the staff helpfull and friendly and the rooms were well maintained .
- Advice: the beaches are great and plenty of shops

Just returned from 2 weeks holiday at this hotel. I went with my husband and 2 small children. The room was cleaned every day to a high standard and the staff were great, fieindly and helpful especially the restaurant staff considering the volumes of work they do. Entertainment girl for kids club was great. Only problem would be the high volume of students, was quiet during the day when they went out, on their return hotel very noisey into the early hours. Unfortnately they could be very rude and pushy at evening meal time. But the hotel as a whloe was nice.

Me and my husband have just stayed in this hotel for 3 nights from 11/03/2011-14/03/2011 and we can honestly say that this hotel is not as bad as some of the reviews state.
Staff are abit quieter but it didnt bother us at all.
Food was good and bad, breakfast was hot, full english and yes sometimes you had to queue but not for long. Lunches and dinners were catered as buffet style with different varieties, there was alot of choice depending what you like.
Alcohol is the highlight if you go all inclusive, they give you card passes which you show to the bar staff when you want a drink.
Rooms were large, 2 double beds, nice and cleaned daily and spacious with balcony, no complaints, tv is small and you do have to give a deposit of 20 euros for the remote but you do get it back!
There is noise at night but not to the point that it ruined our sleep. I would say that the walls are thin but the hotel is massive so some noise is expected!
Guests were friendly, ranged from alot of British to European guests aswell. We were in a non peak season so less kids from the UK, did have alot of students turn up but again we didnt let us bother us.
Calella itself is nice, plently of shops, bars and resturants, if you want clubs then probably not best place to go. Beach is nice and locals were friendly.
To be honest if your reading this review to determine whether you should stay in this hotel, then go, I was really worried booking this hotel after reading the reviews but to be honest for the amount you are going to pay for this resort, you cant complain with what you get!! We have returned today having a brill time and most likely would go back.
Hope this helps.

i have travelled to numerous countries and visited lots of hotels. i was surprised to see so many poor reviews of this hotel. The rooms were lovely and clean and daily maid service. the food was nice. i myself would have preferred more 'spanish' food however they had a good choice of meals. some staff were quieter and looked a bit moody sometimes but so did some guests!! i believe you get out of life what you put into it. most staff were lovely and made an effort with guests. most guests were lovely especially the older generation!! very funny!! my daughter also had a tip on snooker from the professional Ray reardon who was very nice i think he must have been on holiday also. no complaints. we also had a young family next to ours with babies and yes you could hear some noise but not to an extent it spoiled our sleep. we also had 2 children with us aged 14 and 11yrs,they made lots of friends and had a brilliant time. great hotel and i would go there again, no problem. i will especially miss 'joanna' who worked in the shop and was so sweet.

Before i start, this is the first time i have ever felt the need to write a review of one of my holidays (i go twice a year, one AI to Magaluf and one SC in the canaries). This year we booked a last minute cheaper deal to the Calella palace. Weather - good. Room - bit cramped with husband and 2 kids aged 13&10 - but OK. Pool area - fine. Food- breakfast good, lunch - no sandwiches (i don't want a hot meal at lunch), just bought some crips - tea - enjoyed it - bottles of wine were fab! No decent entertainment during day - entertainment staff are lazy compared to the ones we have previously encountered in Magaluf - evening entertainment - absoloutely rubbish and there is not much in Calella apart from the White Horse (just sitting) or Papa's bar has a bit of life in it but no decent bands on or entertainment pubs in the town. The bar staff are so rude, not so much the younger guys, but the older ones - they are terrible. They actually made me feel that they were looking down on me! We went to barcelona throught perla tours which was good - recommend this! Do youself a favour - only go here if you want to sunbathe on roof terrace (barman nice thee), only open 12-6pm, have your tea, then go to bed. Thats it! but be warned - you will be woken up at 5am by the German folk singing and coming back from their nights out. I got better nights kip in Magaluf - the hotels do not allow any noise after midnight. I would rather have paid the extra few hundred and gone back to Majorca. We made the best of it, put a brave face on and just spent the 10 nights enjoying the time as a family - its what you make it in the end but the staff could do with some happy pills!!!!

We have just come back from Calella Palace, and we had a lovely time, the hotel is immaculate in fact i think one of the criterias of getting a job there is you have to have OCD!! The staff never stop tiding, cleaning, straightening chairs! they are obsessed! it is a very clean hotel. This continues into the rooms, although we did notice some of the rooms are quite small, but ours was huge, with two double beds, everything in the room was cleaned everyday, new towels etc. You can eat/use the facilities, in any of the other H.Top hotels within the area or further afield into Lloret,so if you dont like it in this one you can choose another one!!
The food is what is expected from all inclusive, a good variety of meat, fish, & vegetarian, but you have to remember it is mass produced in the kitchen it is not individually made for your requirements & it is spain not the uk, so you do get the spanish version of everything, the only fault i would say with the food is that there is not enough food out at one time so it is busy & you will have to wait and queue. The down sides are that they do not really cater for under 7s if you have children under this age... go somewhere else, there is only one small childrens pool which has steps,& is quite deep. There is not much entertainment for kids, although the town is within a few minutes walk with everything you could possibly need. Also if you dont like teenagers....again stay away, they have parties of students staying in the summer months, celebrating leaving college, who are generally German, they are noisy, if you want a quiet hotel this is not for you.The best thing also is the train service, which is very cheap & runs straight into the centre of Barcelona for about 7 euro, return this is a must if you have never been, there is so much to see check it out on the net before you go, the hop on ~ hop off bus is brilliant, you pay about 20 euro and it takes you to all the sights in Barca, so you dont miss a thing, you just get back on another bus, as they run about every 10 mins. So basically if you dont mind noise, like free drinks/food, want a clean hotel with all the facilities, in the centre of a busy town/hotel area then Calella Palace is the one

We stayed here for 3 nights last nov 28-dec 1. When our driver dropped us off, we can't believe we're in the correct hotel because its in the middle of a residential area which is bit rundown (look at the graffiti and beggars). Winter in Calella is very subdued and if you don't know Spanish, it would be very hard for you to communicate as some locals can't speak English. Going back to the hotel, the service (with the exception of the Head Waiter in the restaurant) is very poor. Some of the staff were really rude and just brush us off when we asked for something. The receptionist in particular didnt make us feel welcome. We felt like we were unwelcomed in the place and she wasnt particularly helpful when we asked for directions as her communication skills weren't really that good. The room is clean but impersonal. If you were looking for a home away from home, don't expect to find it here. It feels like a student hostel not a 4 star hotel. Bit of advice, bring your own towel here if you don't want to end up with chaffed skin. The food was basic. The entertainment abysmal. The travel to and from Barcelona is more than 1 hour on train and will cost you 28 euros and in rush hour, you'll end up standing.
In summary, if you pay cheap, you get cheap service. We wouldnt go back and we advice you to go elsewhere.
