Myself and my Fiance have just returned from a weeks stay at The Calella Palace hotel and after reading some of the reviews were a bit aprehensive. But I assure you there is absolutely nothing to worry about :) The hotel is kept to an excellent standard, rooms are cleaned thoroughly EVERY day and all the staff are very friendly even though they must work very long hours. The indoor pool is a bit small but eh what can you do, there are two Jacuzzis on the roof too which was an excellent touch as you can see all of Calella and beyond. The food is also very very good, now I am a VERY fussy eater and i found something to eat every single night. Yes the chef does put out SOME pork near enough every night but there is also Lasagna Chicken Nuggets Chips Slices of beef Salads and tons tons more so you will NEVER go hungry I assure you :) Overall very good place to stay would highly recommend to anybody.

Just returned from H Top Calella palace 10.10.08 after a weeks stay.
Excellent hotel we thought,
the roof top has its own child free area, which includes 3 x jacussi's and sun terrace and bar.
the meals were very nice (the best we have ever had!!!),
the gym was o.k apart from the stepper was very hard to use and the bike seats were to high and couldn't move down, would maybe suggest getting in a treadmill or summat for the girls.
the male and female separate suna and jacussi's near the gym were fantastic for catching up on gossip. the indoor heated pool was really small but great for the young children and babies.
the hotel itself was kept immacualtly clean and all staff worked very hard,
the outdoor pools outside were cold, but being October thats understandable. the night time entertainment was not very good but being that it is out of season they did have a couple of shows on.
overall we would say the hotel and facitilies are great, the only let down i would say is the guests taking advantage of it being all inclusive.................
i do remember a article i read somewhere before we went about they thought it was a chav's weekend get away, i think we could agree!!!!!!!

Just got back from the calella palace wish I had listened to the awfull reviews everything they say are correct! I just thought that people were moaning for the sake of it.Apon arrival 12 midnight they would not let us use the A/I facility because we were late not even a drink we had to pay! which I thought was very mean.We had waited at the airport for over a hour for our coach I have a 15 month old baby as you can imagine I was not happy!. Then we got to our room and there wasnt a travel cot ready had to go back to reception and ask for one.
The rooms were very big with 2 double beds in but the walls were so thin you can hera next door having a pee and taking a shower! next door to us were spanish could hear their conversation clear!
The was 8 floors and on 3 lifts as I had a buggy I needed to use one all the time waited so long ended up carrying the buggy up and down the stairs most of the time.
The food was ok plenty of variety for the first few days but its the same thing repeated lunchtime and evening time. The chef does loke to cook pork pork and more pork! My sister had it one nite and was very pink inside.

We arrived at Calella Palace at midnight to be told they had been overbooked and we had to stay in their sister hotel, the 3* Olympic for the night. We had to make our own way there (not far) and this hotel was terrible- cramped and very noisy. We have complained about this mix-up and believe it is the fault of Hotels4u, not the hotel. The Calella Palace is much better in comparison and we were glad to get in there the next day, though it is still not 4-star quality in my opinion, more like 2 -3 star. The reception staff are friendly and our room was nice, spacious, clean and tidy with a good view. The walls, as mentioned by others, are paper thin so take earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The food was varied, I had some lovely meals but also some awful ones that were almost inedible, and I'm not a fussy eater. A lot of the main meals contained fatty pork in some format, and some were overcooked, mushy and not kept hot. There was however a lot of choice for each meal so there were always alternatives. The evening entertainment was poor, although the people involved made a good effort, it was tacky, dated and not interesting. A lot of operators say this hotel is suited to couples but as a young couple we don't agree with this, most of the clientele are families with young children, with some older couples. We only used the pool once as the weather wasn't very warm, it seemed OK but maybe a bit small. The hotel has a nice roof terrace. Some of the older bar staff are very grumpy and rude, and you often have to queue for a while to get served. All-inclusive only applies to certain local drinks and the 'cocktail of the day'- the local beer is very nice but the cocktails are pre-mixed, warm and very sweet!
Calella is a typical tourist resort with some nice shops and varied entertainment. It is a little run down in parts but has a lovely park and some nice old buildings. We were very disappointed with the beach- although pretty it is basically a big ashtray (EVERYONE seems to smoke in Calella!), and also littered with bottletops and disgusting rubbish that I won't mention here! If I had children I wouldn't let them play on this beach. The sea was quite choppy when we were there and had a lot of jellyfish. If you don't like the resort however a good thing is that it is on the main coastal trainline, so you can catch trains to other resorts or Barcelona regularly and cheaply.

We are a family of 6, children aged 13, 14, 17 and 19 and paid £2460 all inclusive. The hotel was very clean but as most of the reviews point out the walls are very thin and you can hear everything, not peaceful. The food was great, although snacks and ices could be a lot better. We found we had to do the dreaded getting up early to get a sunbed. The lifts were so slow and small so always waiting for a lift. Found it frustrating only being able to get 2 drinks at a time and the children had to get their own. Felt a lot of the hoiday was spent queuing!! Entertainment, or rather lack of it rubbish and have never stayed in a hotel where you are 'sent to bed at 12 if sitting outside or 1 am in the bar'. We had two adjoining rooms but never liked the fact that one of them did not have any windows so no natural light. Was not the worse holiday we have had but not the best.

Just came back after staying at the Calella Palce Hotel! I thought this hotel was lovely! The rooms are cleaned every day, all the staff are very friendly and helpful! The pool wasn't too busy and there was plenty of sunbeds (there is a lovely roof top terrace which is adults only which is very quite!) The food was slightly repetative but still very enjoyable! Although the walls are thin in the hotel rooms we took some earplugs with us and we were fine!
Definatly recommend the Medival Night for 11 euros it was money very well spent! Overall a nice hotel!

I was dreading this holiday when i read the reviews but i went with a open mind, last year we stayed at the san eloy in tossa de mar which is only a 2 star and the san eloy out shone this hotel in every aspect. If youve book to go to the Calella Palace i would seriously change your booking. This is meant to be a 4 star hotel not a cat in hell it is, the food is mushy and is bland the pool is impossible to get near and the lifts are a joke! when arriving we found that 5 of us are in one room although they are spacious, a room for 5 people is rediculious when we booked a family room!! the walls are so thin many of the time i thought someone was walking is our apartment you could hear your neighbours snoring and even going to the toilet, kids running up and down the halls till gone 2 god knows where there parents were. My children are 15 and 13 and 2 and apart from the pool you couldn't get near there is absolutley nothing for them to do! we paid £1700 in high season and feel that we totally wasted our money and i'm complaining to our tour operator. I please urge you not to waste your money like we did. sorry for bad news

Just got back from a week there. it was a good holiday. As said on other reviews the walls are thin but you get used to it unless the room next door has new arrivals at 3 in the morning! This is a big hotel with only 3 lifts serving 8 floors. You have to wait for ages for one to come! Food ok. Pleasant and friendly staff. Pool to small for the size of the hotel. Luckly the town and beach aren't far away so we used these. Hotel Olympica over the road has a much better pool which you can use whenever you want. Enjoyed our week there. Nice room with clean towels daily.

Myself and 3 female friends stayed at the Calella Palace for 3 nights, we were terrifed when we read the reviews about the hotel but to be honest we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Yes the walls are paper thin but nothing a good pair of ear plugs can't block out. The food was ok not gordon Ramsey standard but what do you expect for £200 all inclusive.
We used the indoor pool and sauna which are nice, the hotel has a bowling alley and table tennis but we didnt use these.
Overall the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were cleaned daily and the food was of an ok standard. We really couldn't complain. If we had to pick a fault it would have to be the clientelle of the hotel, far to many football tops and children!!

I was dreading going to this hotel after i read the reviews, but it worked out lovely!
Yes, the walls are thin, but you get used to it. The food was great considering they were catering for over 600 people.
I was dreading going in the first week of the summer holidays as myself and my boyfriend wanted a quiet week away - they have a roof top terrace for over 18's which was great! It was lovely and quiet up there - you could always get a sun lounger as it was never more than 1/2 full!
Great value for money!

I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Calella Palace – fantastic!!. I realised it was a great place for gay men to vacation as soon as I saw the Freddy Mercury look-alikes in the hotel bar, and later we went to a great gay bar 50 yards from the hotel. I really don’t know why I booked a room at the hotel because I never stayed in my room all week. Great gay scene all over Calella – absolutely brilliant.
