smart and spacious. good location for access to old and new benidorm.
although the food was not the best aspect of the hotel i would still go half board again, though only for a week at a time i think there was a fair mix of brits and spanish which i thought added to the stay. would definitely stay at the diplomatic again and recommend. it

Diplomatic Hotel - Benidorm
I would not recommend a stay in this hotel, only if you are a) Not British and b) over 85yrs old!
The only thing that was decent were the rooms.
The staff at the hotel were miserable and their customer service skills were appalling. We were not welcomed at all when we first checked in - no hello's, pleases or thank yous or anything - just what is your name and here is your key.
Staff also spoke very little English and looked at you is if you should not have been staying there as I would say that 95% of the guests were Spanish - don't get me wrong that is not a bad thing - I just wish Thomson realised this did not have this hotel on their 'books'.
We also wanted to extend the room as we had a late flight, we were told to come back on the morning that we were due to leave, which was fair enough - when we did enquire on the very morning (at 8.30am) we were told to return at 10.30am - so we had to hang around.
At 10.30am we were then told that we could have the room at a cost of an extra 42 Euros but could not pay for the room till 10.45am! - very unusual.
We were also staying half board - all I can say is that the food was absolutely disgusting! - it was all re-heated - the kind of food that you dare not to eat as it may have given you an upset stomach - so we decided to eat out (that was including the breakfasts).
So as you can imagine I would not recommend this hotel to you!

" My wife and I visited the Diplomatic... "

My wife and I visited the Diplomatic last year, for which I posted my review. I had to write again as we've just returned from there yesterday. (April24 2007).
This truly is a beautiful hotel, the rooms are kept spotless and the food is of a very high standard.
There is Champagne at breakfast, caviar, salmon etc at lunch and dinner. All the desserts and meats you would expect of a top class hotel.
The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly.
My reason for giving a second review is because the Diplomatic doesn't compromise its standards, it's as excellent this year as it was last year.

" We picked the Diplomatic because it... "
Submitted By: Mr K Miller
We picked the Diplomatic because it was a 5 storey building unlike most of the others, my good lady doesn't like heights.
What a good lucky choice. Hotel is well placed between the old and the new and 2 streets from the beach, and quiet after midnight.
Standard of cleaning in the room was superb. We never had to wait for a table in the dining room as the table staff were always on hand preparing them. Food itself was good, staff were great.
I think it’s always a good sign, if you see Spanish people staying in a hotel and the Diplomatic had quite a few.
Receptionists were very helpful and overall the hotel is one I would recommend.

" If there was a fault to be found, we... "

If there was a fault to be found, we would find it. This hotel is faultless. It is by far the plushest four star hotel my wife and I have stayed at. Everywhere is spotless, the rooms are extremely nice, the bathroom well designed.
The restaurant well designed, no queues at meal times. The food was unbelievable, Caviar and Champagne at breakfast along with all you would expect for a full English. A huge amount of meat dishes, fish dishes and salads at lunch and evening. The sweets were fantastic too! A choice of Rice pudding, bread and butter pudding, custards jellies etc. Prawn cocktail or soup like Lob scouse as starters.
The staff are friendly and helpful, nothing's too much trouble. The poolside is relaxing and clean, no noisy music blaring out. Wonderful facilities include gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, pool table and children’s area. Outdoor and indoor heated pool.
The hotel is a few minutes walk into the charming old town where there are endless shops bars and restaurants. The beach is a few minutes walk away across a busy road, but there are lights that stop the traffic for you to cross over. A taxi ride to the new town will cost about 4 euros 50 cents, the walk will take about fifteen minutes.
Like all hotels in Spain you can't smoke in the bar or restaurant, but you can smoke on your balcony.
A wonderful hotel in every respect, we can't wait to return.

The food is superb, with everything you would expect for breakfast(buffet) and lunch and evening meals, there is something for everyone. The desserts are to die for.
The pool area is cleaned and tidied every evening and is so relaxing. There is a jacuzzi, sauna, gym, table tennis among it's facilities. The old town is just a five minute walk, while the new town is about 20 minutes walk. Prices have gone up as they have everywhere, but we still found bars that are cheap and cheerful, and within just 20 yards of the hotel.
Evening entertainment is in a seperate room from the beautiful lounge. You can get your laundry done and returned to your room within 24 hours. This is certainly a hotel that I have no problems giving 10/10 and recommending to anyone who like to spoil themselves.
