Holiday Inn Beach Side

This hotel definitely should not be rated as a 3 or 4 when it belongs in the 2 category. No refrigerator,dingy rooms, no free shuttle, pool water is hotter than blazes, beds as hard as rocks, and too far away! It definitely is not as appealing as the ads. My husband talked to the establishment about his dissatisfaction immediately and they said .. "OH WELL! You are stuck with your reservations," and they made no effort to make him happy. For the price, this hotel is great. We had a nice view of the ocean and the room was clean. The pool is a nice size, but the best part of the pool is the bar. During happy hour at the pool we were able to get a 16 oz. Captain Morgan & Coke for $4.00. (Mixed almost 50/50) That is cheaper than any drink you'll be buying at the bars. There is a shuttle that stops about 100' from the hotel. Also the taxi ride home from Duval Street was inexpensive too. I have stayed here twice and really enjoyed my stay both times. After looking at a map of Key West I was a bit nervous about staying here because all of the "action" is at the other end of the island (Key West is about 4 miles long). However, there are two different bone shuttles (red line and blue line) that run in opposite directions around the island all day. If you have an option stay SOMEWHERE ELSE! The rooms are very basic, it feels more like a motel. The carpets in my room were stained and guest services are virtually non-existent. Like the last reviewer from Indiana I was billed twice for my stay. Have fun trying to get the charges reversed from HI. If you are going to be out late partying in Old Town, any room in this hotel is okay. But if you plan on sleeping instead of partying at night, get a room that is not facing the highway. The traffic is very heavy at at all hours on this US 1 signalized intersection and so is the traffic noise. Our room on the first floor in the Key Lime Building facing US 1 and the parking lot was clean. The tv masked the traffic noise somewhat until the cable went out about 1:00am. I discovered through my bank I was billed twice for our room. I called the front desk to inquire about this. They said there was no way that could happen & the woman called me a "baby". I decided to wait until we returned home to address this situation. Sure enough, I have been billed twice. When I called back to the hotel, of course no one is available except voice mail. Had a great time at this hotel! Very friendly staff, especially Rob and Erich, our trusty Tar Benders! The waterview room was unique, was like having a balcony room on a cruise ship, actually OVER the water, got to see some barracuda's swimming beneath our feet. Not only was the front desk more than polite but also humorous. I wish I could remember the girls name up front that checked us in, VERY NICE! The bar is very comfortable with the BEST BARTENDER ON THE ISLAND!! Yes Erich that's you! The pool was great, clean and refreshing as were the rooms! If you are looking for a place to just sleep, then this would be the place. If you are looking for a place to stay that is home away from home, then this would not be the place. My family and I stayed for 5 nights in the beginning of July 2004.
