If you are looking for an Adults playground - but with no hassles, then Key West is the place! The weather was fantastic (around 88 degrees all week, sunny) and the pace extremely relaxed - do what you want, when you want, where you want! Stroll down Duval Street and enjoy... more

It was so-so
My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to vacation for a few days that would be affordable. A friend recommended Key West and we did a little research and decided to go with it. We booked a hotel/flight combo deal through an online site and decided on the Wyndham Reach Resort. Although the cost was reasonable, we were pretty disappointed! First of all it's on the opposite end of Duval of where all the action is and although we were told the hotel shuttle would take us back and forth when we inquired at the desk they said they only shuttled to/from the airport. Our room was pretty decent with an OK view but the staff ruined our trip. There were 1 or 2 that were extremely accomodating, but most were not. We actually sat at the pool for an entire day while the male staff waited on pretty-young-things and not once asked us if we'd like to order a drink. The main desk was indifferent if not rude to any requests and they almost ruined our sunset cruise outing by "messing" up our cab request. Needless to say, the Wyndham Reach is not a place I'd ever stay at again. As far as Key West, it's charming but not enough to stay for 6 days! 3-4 would have been ideal.
Nice hotel
Nice hotel, great location, and friendly staff. Room service was excellent. The hotel is generally maintained above average, but sometimes it shows its age. Some furniture in our room needed replacement. We visited this hotel in December 2003, and if we go to Key West again, we will definetely consider it.
Honneymooned Apr.12-19 (not bad)
We booked our hotel through a travel agency.I read alot of mixed reviews after we booked hotel and hoped for the best. This was our honneymoon and of course wanted it special. Our room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated in a key west style. Maid service was at our convience, plenty of towels and we're very pleasant. Cofee was complientary and replaced daily. The beach was clean and they did run out of chairs if you didn't get out there by 11:30. Did have to sign out for towels and chairs, though. We did have a car,so we bought a foam cooler and stopped at K-mart for snacks, water, juice, milk and cereal to cut back on our expenses. Used there ice, daily. The grounds we found were quite lovely and groomed.Pool was also clean. We had a great time on Duval St. Great intertainment at "The Bull "excellent acoustic guitor player (Fremont John) was awesome! Had fun on Sunset Pier ,good band. Go to Caroline's for an excellent burger and seasoned fries for $6.95; Also had aGreat grouper sand. For excellent Blueberry Pancakes and good omeletes go to Blue Heaven a couple blocks past Duval. You won't be dissapointed. Great ambience too. Went to Mangia-Mangia, Very good home-made pasta and seafood. We got married on "mystic dreams" a small yacht and it also was very lovely and a beautiful memory, we will cherish. Can't wait to go back to Key West.May try another hotel not as expensive.200.00 a nite + 12.00 surcharge daily. Sincerely, Diane
Average
We stayed here in the summer of 2002. it was average at best. the location was pretty nice. the sister property - the casa marina was much nicer. would stay there if we go back again, which we probably will since we both absolutley loved key west. the pool area was ok but packed with kids a lot. the beach is man made and is really small and has a lot of seaweed. wasn't too crazy about it. the restaurant (shula's) was good. try the surf n' turf. all in all, it was ok but wouldn't stay there again.
Just OK
We stayed here at the end of March for 4 nights. I had made the reservation 6 months prior, but when we arrived, we did not get the room we requested, even though I am a long-time Wyndham ByRequest member. We were given a smoking room with one bed--I wanted a non-smoking room with two beds. They were almost totally booked so we were rudely told that we would have to take that room until the next night. The other option was to pay considerably more to upgrade to an ocean-view room that was non-smoking (declined that). I waited a few hours until there was a new desk clerk and complained again. This guy nicely offered us a larger non-smoking room (600 sq. ft.)for the entire stay for no additional charge (which is what ByRequest is supposed to automatically do for you when available), so we took that. I don't know why we weren't given that one in the first place.I would have to say that after having been in two different rooms here, they are just average. The floors are tile that apparently don't get swept too often. The patios are worn. The rest of the room is nothing special, except that they are large. The pool is really nice in that alot of it is shallow for kids' sake. But one of the two pool guys is bossy and rude (you have to check in with one of them to get a towel). He kicked people out of their chairs so he could clean the area and he wasn't nice about it.The beach is small and crowded and could use some cleaning. There was piles and piles of seaweed everywhere. Overall, for the high price you pay, I would not recommend staying here. We drove around the island and the Sheraton Suites looked the nicest even though you had to cross the street to get to the (public) beach. There was also the Hyatt Vacation Club condos that looked even better (right next to the Sheraton), but I am unsure if those are available to the public.
Great location; fabulous staff
Traveled to Wyndham Reach Key West March 3, 2004 : My boyfriend and I. We are both in our early 40's. Josh at the front desk was fantastic. He upgraded our room to an ocean view and honored our free breakfast award from Wyndam although we left it back home. Every day we had a wonderful breakfast buffet on the open air patio overlooking the ocean and poo. There was no rushing and a nice, calm setting. Check the rates ontheir internet site. The pool and hot tub were quite well-cared for. A pool assistant was always on duty to arrage your chair and lay down two fresh towels on beautiful chaises with comfy cushions. Our room was far beyond expected. We had a large balcony. It was a mini-suite. It seems all rooms have mexican tile floors because of the proximity (20feet) to the beach. The rooms were clean and kept well during our stay. They were decorated with lively colors and had everything you needed. They were freh looking not tired. Particuarly as we just became members of Wydham Rewards program, we received extra perks (join!) such as cheese and crackers and water/soda delivered to our room when we arrived. We also received a special coupon for a bottle of wine at the Restaurant at the Whyndham Casa Marina. that hotel, which we visited, was upscal a notch and just gorgeous. very adult. Finally, Key West was beyond my expectations. It had fabulous restaurants; shopping; history; sites; people watching and weather. We did not want to leave. PS RENT A CONVERTIBLE!!
Great time,went back
Stayed at the hotel from 1 Mar 04 to 5 Mar 04,was concerned about staying there after reading some of the bad reviews so I called them directly. The manager assured me that if i didn't like what I saw or any part of the service didn't meet my expectations I could switch to another hotel with no charge.Well everything was fabulous. We stayed in an oceanfront/pool view suite which was beautiful. My son had his own bed by way of a pull out couch,me and the wife had a king size bed.Plenty of room for our luggage. The bathroom was very clean and bright.WE had such a great time that we went back on 14 Mar 04 to 18 Mar 04.I should of booked the room when I was there because the suites filled up fast.We stayed in an oceanfront room king size bed with a pullout couch. The balcony was actually bigger in this room than the suite.Again another fantastic 4 beautiful nights at the hotel. It was spring break at this time so I was worried about the possible noise that might be around late night, but I never heard a sound from any of the college kids.I can't wait to get back to Key West and I know where I'll be staying, The Wyndham.
What a dump!
I could not believe that was a Wyndham Hotel! It was very old and run down. Everything from the elevators, to the bathroom was in terrrible shape. I even had mold growing in my shower. The TV was very old and small, the remote was held together with surgical tape. It looks like they are waiting for the next big hurricane so they can get the insurance to pay for the remodel. There were no vending machines, only a mini bar that charged $3.50 for a small bottle of water. The check out time is 11:00 am. They are rude an inflexible with that. It is not worth anywhere near the $300 per night charge.
The Worst Resort I have ever stayed at....
From the minute I checked into this hotel, I had major problems. The check in time of 4:00pm is absurd and they are not flexible with you and I did not recieve by luggage for two hours once I was in the room. I had reserved a Oceanview Suite for the total cost of around 410.00 a night. The room I was given had a broken phone, a broken front door, a disconnected phone, and a disgusting odor. I came to find out that there was a 'sewage' problem with the pipes under my room. I was finally switched (after 5 hours) to a another room with hardly a view of the ocean. The hotel needs a major cleaning, new paint, and some modernization. The make matters worse, I had happened to check my credit card balance and the hotel and put $3,200 in pending charges. I had never authorized any of these charges. The front desk, head manager, and accounting were completly unhelpful to fix this problem and turned the situation around to blame me. My vacation was pretty much ruined because of my experience at Wyndham Reach. There are plenty of other great hotels and BandB to stay at while you visit Key West.
A preimum hotel at a good price
I travel about 4 to 6 times a year; I stay at a wide variety of hotels. I prefer Wyndham properties but I do stay everywhere (I have left a ton of bad reviews)Let?s get the bad out of the way first.Resort fee (becoming more and more common all over the country) like $14. So keep it in mind*Price- it?s not cheap but it can be (I will explain) Good Stuff- Beach The only real beach on the island! If you have ever been to Key West you know. The beaches are man made and a little nasty. This beach is pretty nice. Did I mention the guy that walks around giving free frozen fruit and ice towels to pamper you!! Or the hammocks!Staff Wow! I was out late at the beach and a security guard stayed at a professional but very safe distance!! The next day I saw him again and he gave me a warm greeting (from a security guard)!! Try being at the pool after hours at the Hilton, or the Medallion! Just amazing staff. Don Michaud is the reservations manager at the hotels and he is certainly the top of his field!Condition. This hotel is in good shape, you have to consider that all the hotels on the island (I have stayed at a lot of them are below sea level (humidity is very high) these hotels require 3 times the work to keep them maintained. The staff here works non stop cleaning and maintaining the building it seems like every time I am there they are doing minor renovation to keep it in such good shape! (Same for the casa marina).Amenities You can use both properties (casa marina and reach) a bunch of pools, water sports, piers, amazing surroundings, great restaurants, two of my favorite properties on the island! This is a resort! Not just a hotel. You should expect a slightly higher price. They provide a wonderful service at an amazing location! The reach and the Casa marina are two of the best on the island! One last thing i always book my room on the wyndham website and the web rates are usually pretty affordable. If you have any questions email me! (i am that pleased)
