Mar Hotel Alimuri

Me and my wife stayed here in August for our honeymoon, when we got there we had to stay in a room across the street due to some difficulties, this was clean, spacious and just what we wanted to just crash for the night after the travelling, the kind and helpful manager (looks like Granvil from open all hours ;-) then said he overheard us say honeymoon and without question upgraded us to a superior room with sea view, which was in a word, gorgeous, dinner everynight was varied and there was lots of it!! lovely cakes!! our waiters/waitress... more

After a cock up with our booking - the hotel had no record of it even though the online agent we booked with had confirmed with us and we had paid a deposit - the manager at the Alimuri was so helpful and apologetic and immediately found us alternative accomomdation at a local hotel and offered us use of all the hotel facitliies and an upgraded room when one became available. The beach and the pool make it worth staying at this hotel, you are unlikely to get that in Sorrento itself and the views are superb of the Sorrento coastline. Our room was nice and the air conditioning very quiet (which is a first in Italy!) The staff were very good and very amenable to helping with Italian lessons! There were no negatives for us for our whole stay. It needn't be a hassle getting to Sorrento either - don't just use the buses - but the train it saves sitting in the queues of traffic! Stayed at the mar Hotel Alimuri for 5 days with a friend. The hotel was about 4 kilometers from Sorrento and about 10 kilometers from beautiful Positano. Meta is a quiet and peaceful town where really not much to do. The hotel offers shuttle bus daily 4 times a day to Sorrento. Hotel Alimuri is a beautiful hotel on a private beach which is very rare to find. My experience at the hotel was great and I highly recommend it. My wife and I had the misfortune to stay here in July 2006, and not only would we never stay there again, but our experiences have made us think twice about going anywhere in Italy in the future. While the hotel itself was clean and comfortable, the service and attitude of the staff was in most cases incompetent, and in nearly every case downright rude. OK, the bottom line is that the Alimuri is a pretty nice hotel and we had a good stay there. However there are a few drawbacks that you should consider before you book. Pluses: Friendly staff Hotel is clean Right on the beach (and sun beds are free) Rooms are fine with good aircon (even the cheap ones) Quiet at night (after around 1130pm) Minuses: Location is around 5km from Sorrento and is definitely not walkable. My husband and I had a fantastic experience at this hotel in October 2005. We had originally booked a double room, and when we learned it faced the parking lot, I asked if we could change rooms. Even though I offered to pay extra, they upgraded us--at no extra cost--to an ocean-front suite that had a 2 person jacuzzi in it. After a long-day of sight-seeing, it was wonderful to come back to this room! Also, the hotel has its own beach, a pool, and a day spa of sorts. The Grand Hotel Alimuri offers a very reasonably priced stay and is strategically located for an Amalfi trip. A few kilometers from Sorrento, easy access to Capri, an easy drive to Pompeii and at the beginning of the coastal drive of the Amalfi coast. Although only 50 or so klm from Naples, STAY away from Naples as it is the dirtiest city in Europe with pickpockets everywhere, especially on the busses. It has very little to offer but grief. Excellent value 4 star hotel at off season prices. Great views of Sorrento bay from sea view rooms (a must). Hidden away by the beach but once found communications easy. Much quieter than Sorrento but still handy for Pompeii etc. Standard meals expensive so search out the Tico Tico TV restaurant about 200m along beach towards Sorrento. Regular (every 20 min) bus service to railway station (5 min) and Sorrento (15min). Also easy connections in Meta for Amalfi. Look for yellow buses with Meta Alimuri. Buy tickets in advance. We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights in September 05 we found the hotel was the only one that was situated on the beach, which suited us well, the beach was reasonably clean with free sun beds which were very confortable. There were two beach side cafe/bars where you could get a very good lunch at reasonable rates.There were also other very good restaurants within ten mins walk.
