Europa Palace Hotel

The hotel was very dated and despite having a lovely location, this was spoilt by a few simple factors. If we had been told the pool was closed we would not have booked to stay there. Breakfast was pretty shoddy although the staff were attentive and very polite. There was no shower - just a European style hand held The "beach" consists of a jetty which stretches out into the harbour where some of the ferries to Capri dock. We did a bus tour of Southern Italy and stayed at the Europa Palace Grande Hotel. It is wonderfully located on the cliffs of the ocean and a block from the shopping area. Our room overlooked the street but we did not find it very noisy at night. The hotel was very elegant and am sure at one time it was a Palace. The staff in the diningrooms dressed in white jackets and black pants even for breakfast. The food, service and decor were excellent and very first class. We loved our time at the Europa Palace. It was clean and spacious - the terrace has amazing views of the bay, and we had a view from our balcony. The location is great to walk around Sorrento from, or to catch the ferry to Capri. We thought it was dreamy.

We had read the reviews before we went and we really didn't know what to expect. The Hotel is in a time warp. It looks as if it was last refurbished in the 1930's and apart from a fresh coat of paint the decor looked original which gave the Reception areas a wonderful old time appearance. The bedroom was large and spacious with a side sea view looking straight at Vesuvious. We arrived on July 30, 2004. We were immediatly taken by the beautiful ocean view. Very very nice. Likely one of the best views in Sorrento of the sea. Towering cliffs and deep blue water. Lovely. But other than the view, the hotel is average at best. It claims to be a 4 star hotel. But it is more of a 2-3 star. The hotel staff are rude and the rooms (we didn't have an ocean view) are less than average. We stayed for 2 nights only because we pre-paid with a tour. We stayed here for one week in July. We loved sorrento, capri and all the surrounding areas. This hotel is Ok - the public areas are very nice, the pool is cold but really nice to have as part of the stay. We had requested a sea view room and when we got here we found that this hadn't been registered. they did find us one and we took it at an extra E42 per night. The first extra. Very good location, being away from the busy center and an easy walk to everything: train station just across the park across the street, Tasso Square etc. Rooms on street side noisy and changed to terrace room on large terrace which had great views. Rooms leave a bit to be desired especially the bathroom which seem to favor turn of the last century plumbing (eg circa 1900) - shower a very poor contraption. Europa Palace Hotel. Wonderful views across the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. Rooms a good size. Excellent restaurant especially with meals on the terrace. Hotel seemed a bit unfriendly on arrival (at nearly midnight) but that soon changed all through our weeks stay. Lack of power sockets in the room. Great to come back to at the end of the day. Just sit on the terrace and watch all the yachts. I would go back. Advice on the area. Don't have a coach trip to anywhere unless you have to, especially Amalfi Coast. Local busses are good... more

We spent three Expensive nights at the Europa Palace in late June and early July, 2003; While the hotel's location is very appealing and its public rooms nicely appointed, our main reason for choosing the hotel turned out to be worthless. The hotel is near the Seaport and the Mediterranean here was dirty to filthy. We could never bring ourselves to go through the trash to use it. And the pool had the most ridiculous rule: We were paying more than 300 Euros a night for a triple room: To use the pool, you had to purchase a "bathing cap/bonnet"... more

This hotel is in an excellent location and has fantastic views from the terrace. Staff not as helpful and/ or as polite as you might expect. OK for a short stay in Sorrento. Couldn't help thinking the hotel next door would have been a better choice.
