Generally the stay at the Wellington was good. The members of staff were all fairly friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, and air conditioning was available but noisy! We used the tour buses to travel or just walked, and the hotel had a good central location. The hotel had a shop and a cafe attached.

My husband and I stayed in the Wellington with his brother and wife for 4 nights in 2 rooms. I was a little worried because of the reviews but there was no need to be. Although the room was small, it was very clean and very comfortable with big TV and iron and ironing... more

Firstly do not listen to any of the reviews above! The hotel itself was absolutely fine. Stayed there for a week and NO complaints what so ever. However we did visit in early August and was VERY hot and sticky...so if you don't fare well with heat I'd advise to go abit... more

We (my wife and) I spent three nights there over a weekend. The location was excellent with a lot of sights and shops in the walking distance. The room price was fair, so we understood that this was a 3-star hotel, not luxury. Yet, the lobby was very small and crowded all... more

An excellent hotel that didn't break the bank! The hotel is on the corner of 7th Avenue West 57th St & is only a short walk from Times Square (I could see the lights from my window!). The rooms were clean & comfortable & the service was fabulous from every member of... more

Spent a long weekend here over Easter with my teenage daughter. A treat before she goes to university later this year. The reception staff were very helpful and efficient. The room was very clean and certainly adequate although slightly worn in places (notably the... more

The location of the Wellington was perfect- just a few blocks from Central Park and Broadway with a subway station just yards from the building. The downside of this is that no-one- including garbage trucks, cement mixers, fire engines etc- sleeps in New York, so it was... more

In December of 2004 and four last year myself and three friends went to New York or the Big Apple as you may call it. The 8 hour flight itself was a long one but once your there we had the excite of U.S customs which can be quite a wait. In total we were waiting in total... more

Expected a dodgy hotel as am used to 4-5* (I am a travel agent). Very pleasantly surprised with this though.
Perfect position, big rooms, friendly staff (as opposed to the last time I was in the city and stayed in Salisbury). Would send people here no problem. Shower a bit dodgy (hence 9*).

great location rooms need attention and cleaning
location was perfect ,rooms overheated and our welcome on arrival was unfriendly .
We would definitely stay there again!
The Wellington Hotel was a very good experience! It has a very good location; Just south of lovely Central Park you would find big and bustling Times Square, the Theater District, trendy restaurants, bars & much more. The front desk was very helpful & friendly, as well as the staff. The housekeeping was excellent & the room was nice & clean. We would definitely stay there again!
Comfortable, convenient hotel
Stayed at the Wellington Hotel last December (2003) before Xmas. Very comfortable, relaxing rooms. Was never bothered by any noise and the room service was great - hot plain pancakes with butter and maple syrup!! The location of the Wellington is absolutely perfect, and i'm staying there again in March! Would definately recommend. It's not the Ritz, but hey, it was clean warm and cozy.
Wellington in NYC
Wellington is an older, gracious hotel. Location excellent: 5+ blocks to Central Park, 10+ to 42nd st and movie theaters, 1+ to Carnegie Hall. Cab fares all $5-10 for our purposes. Our room was 2 single beds, little extra space, bathroom excellent. Amenities: good housekeeping, room service is from the coffee shop (OK), hair dryer, iron/ironing board fine. No clock radio but wakeup call reliable. No in room coffee maker. All the staff were gracious and helpful. This hotel was unknown to us - had best deal for our dates - we would go again.
Great location
As some reviews have already said, after reading the bad reviews I was very worried about staying at the Wellington, very worried! 4 of us, all young females, decided to go to New York for New Year and we couldn't have had a better time. The hotel is basic and nothing to write home about but is clean and comfortable. We had a maid service everyday and the staff were pleasant. Our first night was interupted by the heating sytem but we soon got used to it as well as getting used to the heat of the room. It was boiling! Granted the bathrooms were small and we had to keep our door open so it didn't smell of mildew but again it was always clean. For those that are not planning on spending a lot of time in the hotel and plan to see all they can of New York (its what you should be doing!) this hotel is ideal. It is so central and really you are only going to be spending your nights sleep in the rooms. Overall a brilliant time was had by all and for the money you pay the Wellington is absolutley fine!
Moldy bathroom, musty room, goodlocaion
My friend and I stayed here in October for a weekend. The lobby was extremely small and the line for check in/out was long. There were very few places to sit and wait. The hotel is dated. Our room was small, bed was clean. However, the bathroom had extensive black mold on the ceiling, probably due to the fact that there was no exhaust fan. The price wasn't bad to get us aroom for the night in NYC, and it is right next to Central Park, and near the Theater District. I'm not picky about where I stay, but I would not stay here again. We paid about $150/us a night.
U got me worried!
After reading the reviews before I went I was sooo worried about staying at the Wellington - in fact I was scared! We found our stay very pleasant, the staff were friendly and the room was very clean. The location was fantastic and for the cheap price we paid we couldn't have asked for anything better! I would recommend it :)
Perfect Location
After reading some of the reviews before travelling, I was somewhat nervous about the choice of hotel my travel agent had made for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very clean, staff were very courteous, the room was nice and quiet and the location of the hotel was perfect to see the sights of New York. All in all I had a very pleasant weekend in New York and if I get the chance again to travel to New York, I will certainly stay in this hotel again.
Pleasant Stay
My wife, niece and I stayed at the Wellington for 6 nights. After reading some of the reviews here, I was quite apprehensive. My fears were groundless. We were treated politely by all staff we encountered, our room was cozy, clean, quiet, and comfortable. We had a nice view of Central Park. The "historical" feel of the place included privacy and warmth every night. Mind you, this was the week of Christmas. I wouldn't have thought that I could have afforded a hotel within walking distance of so many attractions, but really enjoyed the convenience of a ten-minute walk to Broadway shows. We would stay at the Wellington again.
Good value for money
I was a little apprehensive about the hotel after reading some of the reviews. We satyed 6 nights at the Wellington and it had pluses and minus's. The room was a little small but I am told that is not unusual for New York hotels. The heating/ventilation system was very noisy. The decor was a little shabby, however the location was superb and the rooms very clean. The staff were fine, I find if you treat people properly they respond. Finally the price was very good all in allI would use the hotel again as I found it good value. I have stayed in better hotels and worse(and generally paid more for both)
