A highly recommendable, comfortable, classy, quiet, new boutique hotel with friendly staff
One of the most pleasant and luxurious hotel experiences I’ve ever had, possibly the most pleasant one. Made a reservation directly with the hotel, for 2 adults, 5 nights in late March 2010. I chose it because it was #1 in the Trip Advisor at the time and the price was within our budget. The web page allows you to specify several preferences. The best bed ever :)
Super comfy hotel. Rooms are clean, washroom was great, but no tub. The room size was pretty good, especially for new york. Concierge was very helpful, and worked hard at getting us last min reservations. Everyone always new my name from the time we first entered the hotel. My flight was delayed at the airport and the surrey organized my transport and it was all on the ball.

Best staff, wonderful location, very nice hotel
I haven't traveled an exorbitant amount, but from the experience that I do have, I can confidently say that the staff that I encountered at The Surrey is the best out of any hotel that I've visited throughout the world. They are a friendly, helpful and warm group of people. I've really never encountered anything like this before. Great Choice
For reference, we come to NYC 3 times a year, and have never stayed in the same hotel twice. Sometimes because we don't care for them, but mostly because they are not good enough to make us come back, since we like to experience different neighborhoods. The Surrey may be the best in its price range, and one of the few to which I will return. The staff is exceptionally friendly. And for NYC, amazingly friendly. Some are planned. My absolute home away from home - incredible experience!
I had the amazing pleasure of staying at The Surrey hotel in NYC and what completely blown away by it. From my late night arrival, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, my accommodations were so comfortable that I never wanted to leave, the food and service in the bar - I am at a loss for words. This property is a gem - a hidden secret that won't be secret for long. Definitely go and experience this hotel - you will never want to stay anywhere else. Best in New York CIty
My husband and I spent a night here with our children (ages 5 and 7) for a weekend getaway and were blown away by this hotel. We have stayed at many 5 star hotels in New York City (Four Seasons, The Penninsula, The Lowell, Carlyle) and are very very picky travelers who ask a lot of our hotel! Nothing works, Save your Money
I stayed at Surrey Hotel a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe I had only heard great reviews. Sure the hotel looks nice, from the outside, but once you get there you start to see all the little problems. A couple of the people were really friendly, but when you stay somewhere where the air conditioning is not "conditioning," and your TV doesn't work, and your hot water doesn't work, it's like... "hmmm... am I on candid camera?" The black screen on my television was very annoying, and apparently at a certain time they have no one... more

Best Hotel ExperIence EVER!!!
I spend at least 15 out of every 30 days traveling for either business or pleasure. I always stay at top hotels and am extremely particular. After checking into and immediately out of The W on Lexington because I didnt like the room I checked Tripadvisor for top rated hotels in the 300-500 per night price range. i saw that the Surrey was rated #1 and fit into that criteria. The attention to detail was outstanding
Arrived at hotel to a warm welcome. Got to room, where a call from reception, to make sure we were happy, soon followed. Luxurious room with the best bed and bedding possible. Really can't fault the hotel or service. We would return.

The Surrey is a wonderful hotel with resourceful, refined staff
Spencer runs a tight ship and Michael the concierge is efficient and accommodating without being oversolicitous. We look forward to a great many more stays at the Surrey. P.S. Our only 'complaint' was that the hotel charged for wireless service - we found this a bit tacky for a hotel of this caliber. Perhaps something they could consider changing or building into the rates.
