We loved this Hotel. My friend and I visited New York for the first time and booked this Hotel for its location. We have found our favourite Hotel! It was fabulous. Everything about it was grand. Large rooms, incredible bathroom - both a seoarate glass and granite... more

We stayed for two nights this past weekend and found the hotel to meet our expectations.
For NYC standards, the room was a decent size. The Midtown location is pretty convenient and just outside of Times Square.
The best part of our stay was the ultra comfortable bed - we slept great.

We've been to New York before but this was the first time we'd stayed so close to Times Square. We thought this might make things noisy but this wasn't an issue for our room at all. The hotel has a luxurious feel to it, with very smart looking staff that were also very... more

We stayed at the Sofitel in Feb 2006. The staff were friendly, the bed very comfortable, and the hotel very clean. It was in a good location - very close to Times Square & 5th Avenue. On our first night we weren't very oriented and totally stumbled upon Times Square -... more

We stayed at the Sofitel New York in January of this year. I have stayed in many hotels over the last twenty years, all of which were 4 or 5 star, but this hotel was the best I have ever stayed in. The location was excellent a few minutes from Times square, Rockefeller... more

Very Pleased
We normally stay with family or friends in New York, but have tried sampling city hotels in the past few years. We stayed here for two nights, over New Year's, and agree with every positive post on this forum. This hotel was clean and quiet. The guest room we had overlooked the Chrysler building and the seperate fully equipped fitness center was great- as nice as many we've been to in resort areas. No complaints and believe me, I am a complainer. Loved the decor, loved the location, loved 80% of the staff and don't think it's worth whining about anything, expecially when you get a big, comfy, stylish and modern room in New York in the $200 range Christmas week. I am actively telling family and friends about this property. In general, I would advise that paying the extra $$ in a big city like New York is almost always worth it for comfort. But you really have to read between the lines a bit to make sure you're paying for comfort and not just style. Some of the less expenseive boutique properties on Club Row (West 44th where the hotel is located) are now charging comparable rates for shoe boxes with no amenities.
It's all about service
After staying at the Sofitel Water Tower in Chicago, I had great expectations for the New York property, but was very disappointed in the essentially incompetant concierge desk, slow restaurant service, and non-existent engineer response. After 3 nights, I moved to the Waldorf Towers, where excellent service made all the difference!
Loved the Sofitel
Our family stayed at the Sofitel Dec 19- 23, 2003. We were very pleased with the hotel and the service. It was exactly as described by Expedia. We had two rooms both with twin beds. The baths were great. Service was great. It was very quiet amidst the multitude of people during Christmas. We would definitely stay at the Sofitel again. Try the Red Flame for breakfast - it is just a few doors down and very friendly.
Absolutely lovely!
Absolutely everything that we were hoping it would be: lovely, quiet, clean, great location, very friendly staff. Honestly, we don't want to stay anywhere else in NYC! Thanks, Sofitel!
Impeccable Quality, Comfort, Service, and Style
I travel frequently for my job. I've had the opportunity to stay in some of the best and a few too many of the worst hotels in the US and abroad. I can honestly stay that by far, my experience with the Sofitel in New York is within the top 3 BEST that I've had in the past 3 years. If cleanliness, courteous responsive staff and 5-star restaurants are among the things you look for when selecting a hotel, you will not be disappointed with the Sofitel. This European-style boutique hotel offers crisp, white bed linens and spacious, white-glove-test clean bathrooms. A fabulous restaurant, boutique-moderne, is a couple doors down from the hotel and the concierge actually express-mailed my "lost" passport to me at my next destination at no cost to me! I will definitely return to the Sofitel and recommend it to family and friends.
Be carefull in the bar
The hotel was very nice and the staff very friendly, we were offerd a upgrade to a suite for an extra $300 which was well worth the money, my only concern with the hotel was that the cost of drinks in the bar were well over the top, I went in there with my girlfriend and 2 other friends ordering drinks like there was no tomorrow (as you do when your on holliday) the next think I am presented with a bar bill and i have paid £10.00 per pint of bear ($16.00) on round of drinks for 4 of us came to £40 or $65
Great Hotel for Theatregoers/Not so good housekeeping
Fabulous location and excellent reception staff. Wonderful bathrooms with seperate shower and Le Gallet toiletries. Beautifully soundproofed for restful night's sleep. Spotty housekeeping. I left the room at 10 am Sunday and returned at 5pm to find it hadn't been made up. I called and returned later that night to find it still had not been entirely made-up but still had plate of peels from welcome fruit basket that should have been removed. Didn't make a fuss as I was leaving next morning. Maybe Sunday shift not up to snuff as rest of the week. Skip the expensive and skinny continental breakfast ($14.00) and join other canny hotel guests from the neighboring Algonquin and Royalton Hotels and go to the Flame diner a few doors down towards 6th Avenue. Full breakfast (i.e.eggs,bacon,toast,coffee) for $7.00 or $8.00 including tip and better tasting too!
Location, Location, Location.......
We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Sofitel. We booked the hotel after many hours searcing on the internet and finally decided after reading all the reviews on this site. I would definately recommend this hotel as the location is great, just a few blocks walk for Time Square, 5th Avenue shops, Grand Central Station, theatres, Rockafellar Centre and the Empire State Building (which we could see from our bedroom window, room 1717). The room was pleasant and clean and the bathroom fantastic. My only comment would be not to use the phone in the room as the international rates are very high (probably comparable to other hotels but still higher than a payphone). No more than 15/20 minutes worth of calls home cost over 110 dollars!
Excellent Hotel!!!!!
We stayed 11/7-11/9. Excellent hotel and location is CHOICE!!!!! 2-3 blocks from Times Square, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Saks, and all the shopping on 5th Avenue. It's located right b/w 5th and 6th Ave. About 4 blocks to most Broadway shows. Empire State Building & Macy's are 9 blocks away (20 min walk). Grand Central Station is about 3 blocks away also. The staff was extremely nice and the room was excellent. The bathroom was very big and had a phone even in the bathroom. I loved this hotel!!!! The employees at the Concierge Desk were very helpful. Especially Chris. We asked where we could get a good steak and he recommended Del Frisco's and even called and made the reservation for us. It was similiar to a Ruth Chris' Steakhouse and had excellent food overlooking Radio City Music Hall (4 blocks away). Staff was great about hailing taxis also. We were going to take a taxi back to JFK when checking out and they offered us a Lincoln Town Car for a $50 flat fee. Taxi would've run $45 so we took that deal. Ended up in a compact black Mercedes and it was a very peaceful ride to the airport. I can't wait to plan my next trip there in Feb and will be reserving again at this hotel.
Elegant
We have stayed at the Sofitel three times and have never been dissappointed. On our most recent stay in September, I noticed that the bed linens were torn. I called the desk and spoke with the manager who was very apologetic. She immediately(within 5 mins) had the maid in our room changing the linens and apologizing. The manager also provided us with a complimentary breakfast where we could order anything on the menu. It was fabulous and served promtly. If you are looking for elegance, class, lovely rooms, great location and fabulous bathrooms......look no further because the Sofitel has it all.
