The Hotel Mediterranean offers good food from its top floor restaurant with views looking over the Bay of Naples capped by the magnificent volcano Vesuvius. Evenings are a pleasure having dinner watching the sun set. The attentive staff make your stay a delight, whether... more

so pleased we chose this hotel
Stayed here for 9 nights following 4 days in Rome We requested a room overlooking the pool as had heard about the noisy locals! Really nice big room, though the bathroom was small and the shower a bit of a squeeze! One thing to mention is to bring your ear plugs as no matter which room you stay in you will hear the constant stream of traffic from the road surrounding the hotel. Another thing was that the air conditioning unit didnt appear to work very well, which wasnt too bad for us as we were there at the beginning of September. The breakfast was included and by far the best "continental" breakfast we have had, with the ability to sit on the restaurant balcony overlooking the bay in the mornings. The staff was superb, very friendly and helpful on all areas from the front desk to the restaurant to the poolside bar. The poor area was great, plenty of room and the pool was extremely clean, although a little on the cool side until the afternoons! The pool bar had a brilliant lunchtime menu and the pizzas were to die for, being freshly made in a pizza oven. Couple of downsides which had nothing to do with the hotel. We stayed in Sant Agnello as we didnt want to be in the hussle bustle of Sorrento - unfortunately Sorrento and the surrounding areas are all extremely busy in terms of traffic and that is just something you need to accept before you go, however the hotel is a little oasis of calm within that! Also if you are getting the train get off at Sant Agnello station rather than Sorrento as the taxis are extremely expensive and it cost us £10 to travel 1 mile! As everyone has said use the trains to get to Pompei and Vesuvious and the hydrofoil to Capri (well worth the visit and only takes 20 minutes to get there) and dont waste your money on trips.
Fabulous hotel
My husband and I stayed at the Mediterraneo last week and I have to say that it is truly a beautiful hotel. The welcome we received by the reception staff when we arrived was second to none. The staff in general are very courteous and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Our room, though not huge, was lovely with a fantastic view across the Bay of Naples overlooking Mount Vesuvious. Well worth paying the extra for a room with a sea view. The English tv channels are very limited, the sound quality being so poor that it was virtually impossible to hear anything. However, a minor complaint as you don't go to a place like Sorrento to watch tv! The decoration of the hotel is very classy and elegant and the pool area and gardens are beautifully kept and peaceful. The food is delicious, however if you are used to the self service, eat as much as you can buffets of the spanish costas, this may not appeal. The standard of the food is very high and the variety very good but the portion sizes are not huge, the vegetable accompaniaments being limited in particular. However, I can honestly say that neither my husband or myself ever walked out of the restaurant hungry and we both loved the food! Regarding the dress code for the restaurant, I agree with the hotel rule of not allowing shorts for dinner. It is an extremely elegant restaurant and I don't think they should lower their standards but expect guests to dress appropriately. The surroundings and atmosphere demand it in my opinion. It was our bad luck that we arrived when Italy was experiencing a bad spell of weather, terrific electrical storms almost every day and torrential rain at the beginning of our holiday but that was the only thing to dampen our enjoyment of an excellent holiday.
good hotel
It is a very good hotel, we had a nice room (ask for sea view), friendly staff, good food. I would like to recommend Francesco, always useful when we asked for trip advice, etc...The location of the hotel is good to travel around Naples area and you can enjoy the big swimming pool and music three times a week. The only weird point is that if you want to have diner you must wear a trouser at the restaurant (no short or bermuda accepted but jeans OK)! I would recommend this hotel
What a great spot
This is a great hotel set right on the sea front on top of the cliffs with fabulous views from the rooms at the front over the bay of Naples towards Vesuvious. Views from the rear of the hotel are equally impressive over the pool, hotel gardens and the mountainous backdrop behind Sorrento. We had a family room for 4 which wasn't huge, but was very clean and well equipped. The outdoor pool, bar, garden and food area were excellent - the pizzas (cooked in a wood burning oven) were as good as we ate anywhere. Nastro Azzuro Peroni on draft at 4 euros was great and the bar staff (especially Danieli) were very friendly and entertaining. There is a town square overlooking the sea right in front of the hotel which attracts a number of noisy teenagers in the evenings, but mainly at weekends. The centre of Sorrento is walkable (15 minutes) but the bus for 1 euro that stops right outside the hotel is great value when its hot!
great hotel
Lovely hotel, especially the pool area (and bar staff...hello to the boys!!!) Bathroom was on the small side, but apart from that the room was perfect. Reception staff were quite helpful, but could have provided information upfront rather than us having to ask about things - such as bus times, trips, etc. Overall a good, clean, & friendly hotel - wish we could've stayed for longer than our 3 days.
Loved it.
We spent the last 9 nights of our honeymoon at the Mediterraneo and had a great time. The hotel was in a nice location, a bit of a walk from Sorrento but this was no problem as we made regular use of the Shuttle service. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Great room with balcony had an amazing view of the bay of Naples. Unfortunately no Room service after 9pm which was a slight dissapointment, and mini bar was never refilled after we raided it!! When we managed to make breakfast :) it was good, but at times we arrived shortly before breakfast ends at 10am and hot water was cold and milk was warm etc...overall pretty good though. By far the strongest feature of the hotel is the pool/bar area. Lovely pool, well maintained and a really nice shaded part...good for reading or cooling off from the sun. The bar area was very chilled and snacks and drinks great. The head waiter 'Daniele' made us feel very welcome from the very beginning. He is entertaining and extremely friendly and really makes the bar/pool area the most enjoyable experience. Other waiters were also very friendly and efficient. Overall a great hotel, and we would definitely like to return in the future. Dan Mckenna
Disappointed with our room
We stayed at the Mediterraneo in July, the pool area, the restaurant staff and the food were great but we were very disappointed in our room, it had a view onto a shed & car park, a leaking corner shower that you could almost not fit into it was so small and a column in the middle of the room which was quite small. We asked to move but we were always asked to check again the next day if it was possible and it never was. We also asked for the shower to be fixed and it wasn't. The walls are extremely thin and you can hear people's conversations. The pool area is lovely, there are always sunbeds available & clean towels, and lunch under the orange & lemon trees is very pleasant. The hotel courtesy bus stops at 9pm which is a shame.
Enjoy the bay of Naples
We have just returned from a trip to Sorrento, Italy in late July August. Weather was very hot and sunny every day with a couple of magnificent electric storms overnight. Whole experience was exciting and enjoyable. We were surprised to find that the whole of the coast of the bay of Naples was built up and this made travelling by road quite slow and as every hold up requires the use of horns in italy, this was quite noisey. However the quickest means of transport is by boat and ferries are frequent and reasonably priced. Cheaper means are by local buses and trains. Taxis in Naples are cheap but in Sorrento very expensive. There are lots of things to do: visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, Versuvius, Amalfi coast, Island of Capri and lots more. We used excursions arranged through "Golden Tours" but there are many others too. These were well organised with friendly, Engish speaking guides. Hotel Mediterraneo is a small hotel where the staff are exceptionally helpful. Dinner menus are different every night with plenty of choice. Lunches can be taken around the pool area. There are plenty of sunbeds available too with good supply of towels provided. When we were there, there were lots of families with young children who all played together in the pool but there was still room for adults to swim about. All in all a very relaxing holiday
What a fab place
My partner and I have just spent a fabulous week at the Hotel Mediteranneo. we booked with Thomas Cook (best price) and it has been the best holiday we have ever had. The hotel was clean and well decorated. The staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. I would like to list the staff to thank but the list would be endless. Make sure you book a room with a seaview and balcony as the views are breath-taking. We were amazed that the pool was so quiet in the height of season. Never any problem with people getting the best beds! You even get clean towels for your sunbeds every day. The local buses stop right outside the hotel into Sorrento so it was never a problem being away from the main square. In fact, I think it was a bonus as it was very busy in Sorrento itself. The hotel was such a relaxing place to be that we did not venture out in the evening except for one evening where we went to the Foreigners Club in Sorrento (a lovely setting with great food and ambience). We did two organised trips (Capri by night - lovely as there were not as many tourists but a bit pricey & Amalfi Drive - great day). The other outing we took was to take the red open top bus round Sorrento, really well organised, sit on the top of the bus on the right hand side for the best view - but Watch Out for the TREES!!!! We will definitely return.
A Perfect Stay
My sister and I recently visited Sorrento, Italy - a gift for her and I from our parents. We stayed at Hotel Mediterraneo in Sorrento, and it was truly a memorable experience. The staff there, from the concierge to the bartenders to the waitstaff - absolutely everyone was extremely helpful, friendly, and really just wonderful. I must mention Francesco at this point; when you stay here, you must ask for him. He was absolutely the most polite, kind, helpful, and welcoming person we met while in Italy. They all treated us like a pair of princesses. Otherwise, the hotel was very clean and tidy. (Cleanliness is my first priority when I stay out of town, so this is perfect for those of you who agree). Beautifully decorated indoors and out. The pool area was fabulous - plenty of trees for shade and other plants, comfortable chairs and tables at which to lounge, pool chairs with towels provided. The pool itself is lovely, lined with tiny tiles in different shades of blue. The bar by the pool, staffed with very unique, friendly, and entertaining bartenders, is open for most of the day and into the night. They also serve a light lunch here in the afternoon. The hotel offers special excursions daily (arranged through a touring company), which are very convenient - most leave from about a block away. There is a bus stop literally across the street, which takes you directly to Piazza Tasso, a central square in the city, then continues to the Marina Piccola. You reach the Piazza in less than 5 minutes, and the Marina within ten. The hotel also has a mini van in service. The nearest train stop is about 10 minutes away, not far. Last but not least, we chartered one of the two yachts the hotel has in service for a half day. Very new, luxurious, and the pilot was very good. We rode out to Capri, swam in the cool, clear water, and enjoyed floating around and looking at the rocks. I could write pages more. Overall, our experience was unforgettable, so amazing it's difficult to express. When I return, someday, I will stay here again. Check out their website, the pictures of the hotel are accurate, but when you're there, they seem not to do it justice. Thanks to everyone at the Hotel Mediterraneo!
