The hotel is set in a beautiful area but is suitable only for those prepared to walk, a fact stated in the brochure. The food is superb but continental not British so if you are a boring person who doesn't like foreign food you may struggle. The entertainment is low key and not overly intrusive unlike other cheaper holiday destinations.(Bendiorm)
The staff are extremley friendly and will converse in the language of your choice be that English, German or Italian.
There are a lot of Germans at this hotel only to be expected as it is a prime German holiday destination. The rooms are clean and of high standard.
This is a hotel for adults not really child friendly but as stated not suitable for those who want to be in a town centre.
I note a previous review gave 2/10 for the hotel but praised their operator. A bit confusing if they said it was suitable not really the hotels fault is it ?
10/10 will visit again and again.

The low rating is not a reflection of the tour operator, Inghams, they were excellent.
The Hotel Leonardo da Vinci does, however, in my opinion deserve the rating. We have stayed in several All Inclusive hotels in Europe and Goa (India) and never have we had to endure such poor food, drink, and entertainment.
The location of the hotel is a 25 minute walk into Limone, the last third of which is downhill. Very much downhill!! The hotel courtesy bus stops running at 6.00pm so it's a 7 euro taxi ride each way if you want to get something decent to eat and drink or if you want to escape the "entertainment".
The hotel emphasis is very much on German families and we were very much outnumbered.
While the hotel staff were on the whole very nice and polite, they do assume that all guests are German and a German phrase book would be of more use than an Italian one!
Because of the steep location of the hotel not all facilities are available to anyone with walking or respiratory difficulties.
My wife damaged both calf muscles within two days of being there and spent the following two days unable to do much at all. I could go on but you're probably bored now.
Give careful consideration to booking the Leonardo da Vinci. The area is stunning, just go somewhere else.

This was advertised with Crystal as half board with bonus offer of drinks and light Italian lunch.
As stated the rooms are in different blocks and it is a bit of an uphill hike to some and a pain if it is pouring down but the views make it worthwhile.
We paid extra for a superior room which had superb views and came with tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, towelling robes, pool towels etc. Really big bathroom with bath and shower and a big balcony.
The hotel is not in the centre of Limone but it is a lovely walk in. The hotel does have a minibus which runs hourly but we only used it once. The food was very varied. Always pasta dishes, roast, 2 soups etc. at dinner. Lunchtime was French fries, salad and either a pasta dish or burger etc. Bit strange having cold red wine which you helped yourself to out of a machine.
You did this for soft drinks and tea, coffee, chocolate etc. The AI bar was excellent. No queuing for someone to serve you just optics, beer pump, and glasses. Never saw anyone falling over though!
We went here because the lakes are so beautiful and to have a rest. We really enjoyed it but if you like nightlife forget it. We did intend to use the indoor pool or gym but relaxed so much we didn't bother.
Lots of other nationalities at the hotel but not a problem as people were friendly. Lots of families but the children were all very well behaved. We only sat by the main pool but we did find other pool areas one with slides.
The staff were friendly and very hard working, especially the youngsters who worked in the bar collecting glasses.
Although the weather was not brilliant we had a lovely holiday.

A very nice hotel, staff very helpful, our room was a deluxe, was clean good size and air conditioned, generally a good choice of food, drinks during the day included and afternoon tea, nice swimming pool, was not too crowded in fact most the time only 2 or 3 people in the pool, quite a few elderly people, who did find that some of the rooms were up a very steep hill, also hotel has own beach was lovely relaxing by the lake.
We walked into Limone centre and back, is a hotel bus but that stopped at 6, which meant that some of the elderly visitors had to stay at the hotel. But would recommend the lake is beautiful, and the hotel would guarantee a holiday not to be forgotten.

I have recently returned from a holiday at the fantastic Hotel Leonardo da Vinci, Limone and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone. It is a hotel that caters for most (except those who are looking for a clubbing holiday!). I would call it a hotel for all the family. Although it is a big hotel, it is cleverly designed in different tiers, thus you do not have a huge volume of people concentrated in one space.
We stayed 3 adults in a room to save on the cost of 2 rooms and it was plenty big enough. The spare bed folded into a decent size settee, which was useful in the day. I would recommend paying for a superior room it had many extras. The air conditioning was brilliant and the manager allowed us to use it as we wished. The balcony with lakeside view was stunning. It even had a little garden too. A safe was included free of charge. Each room has satellite TV, should you need it. The bathroom had bath, shower and bidet and clean towels were given everyday. The rooms were immaculately cleaned, sheets changed regularly, most comfortable. In fact the entire hotel was clean and the staff were extremely polite, friendly and so organised. Always willing to help. We were even given towels for the poolside which was great, you do not need to take any towels with you.
There are 4 pools, one with a bar/restaurant, which is reasonable with their prices. It is great as you do not have to pay for sunloungers, umbrellas and there are plenty of them. There is a private beach, which is really nice with a cafe/grill. Here you can hire kayaks for 7 euros an hour, also there are pedalos and windsurfers etc. All you have to pay for on the beach is 1 euro for a mattress for the loungers. There are also toilets and showers here, once again very clean.
Next to the hotel, a short walk up the road is a campsite, turn right as you go out of the hotel and keep walking, There is a shop on the campsite, this is handy to use instead of walking to town, if you are relaxing on the beach or pool area. There is a courtesy bus to and from the town centre, which is 1.2 km away.
The food in the hotel is absolutely first class. It is a real highlight and the choice that you have is really unbelievable. Everyone is catered for. My daughter is vegetarian and she had ample choice. There is a staggering variety and the quality and freshness is really top drawer, we went half board and this filled us up adequately. We were not hungry in between meals. This also saved on our budget as for the first time ever we did not have to fork out for a meal at lunchtime. Highchairs are provided for young children. The service in the restaurant was first class, no sooner had you finished with a plate, it was taken away. When you needed another knife or fork, it was spotted instantly. The staff welcomed your attempts at Italian and were always jovial.
There is free wine, coffee, tea, soft drinks and water 10am-6pm, which is a godsend. Once again this keeps your purse closed. There is also a frozen milky drink, which was very popular, and biscuits and a simple cake was served free in the afternoon. If you were going on trips which returned too late for dinner, you had 3 alternatives, to collect a 12 euro voucher which could be used in the grill bar, to ask for a packed lunch or to ask for a cold plate to be put in your room when you arrived back. This was so useful. Again they really try to think of it all. They even have a copy of an English newspaper that you can read (no charge)
There is a great entertainment programme for the kids and I have never seen so many relaxed mums and dads with young children enjoying their fun. Their is also an entertainment/ fitness programme for adults and there is light entertainment each evening for the guests. There is a fitness gym to use and also a sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath, solarium. Sooooooo much. You can arrange facials and massages and beauty treatment at prices in line with the UK.
I have tried to include most things about the hotel that I think may be useful. I have probably missed lots too as there was so much to do there. It really is a great place and the town is quaint, cobblestoned, clean and lovely for relaxing strolls around the lovely shops and lakeside,,,,,ahhh heaven I truly wish I was back there. For people who enjoy walking, there were organised walks too. I would return to the hotel any time, which is something that I do not usually do. I came back home with money to spare, so although it was a little more expense initially. It pays off in the long run as you simply have everything you could want in one beautiful place.

Our family (including twin boys aged 4) stayed at the hotel in late June 2008 and had a fantastic time.
It’s very much a family hotel so if you want a sedate mealtime dining experience then it’s probably not for you; likewise if you have difficulty walking distances or uphill but if you have kids then this is just the place.
When we arrived there weren’t many other Brits there which suited us fine. It was very much nationalities from all over Europe which was great and everyone was very nice and well behaved.
Our room was in block 4000 which had a great view of the lake and was a spacious room. Could have done with a bit of updating but was large enough with a big balcony, blackout linings on the curtains and was virtually soundproof, so ideal if you have small children. As the complex is on a hillside, most rooms except the few that are in the entrance block are well away from any entertainment noise,
The food is very good for an all inclusive and the addition of free drinks on tap is a life saver as it was very hot when we were there. You will really eat too much as you also get lovely cakes including an excellent chocolate pannettone in the afternoon. The wine is not the greatest but hey, it’s free, and we got round the monotony of lunchtime meals by occasionally going out for a pizza and ordering a good bottle. When you think what you save on food and drink it’s well worth it. Johnny the Maitre’D was excellent and would get anyone anything they wanted I believe - especially kids.
The kids club was very good, run single handedly by Anthea who spoke about 7 languages and catered for all the kids there and did the mini disco 6 nights our of seven. Hotel entertainment was the usual – live music, Brazilian dancers, quiz etc so ok but there was a good, friendly atmosphere and being a way out of town everyone gathered there and was good for the kids to play and make friends. They even showed kids films once a week admittedly in German but mine didn’t seem to notice or mind!
The pools are good – the ones up the hill better for families as there is a toddler paddling pool and good water slide which keeps everyone entertained for hours.
Limone is well within walking distance. Probably best off not bothering with the shuttle bus as it’s a real free for all with no concessions given to people with babies or walking difficulties – be prepared to fight your way on in high season! However the regular bus stop outside the hotel will take you into Limone, Riva or the other way to Gardone, Salo etc quickly, cheaply and it’s quiet and probably easier than catching a ferry but that is also easy though the ferry stop is a fair way from the hotel. Malcesine is an easy excursion and the cable car up the mountain is a must-do.
There is much more to say but it’s an excellent family hotel and holiday. Shame Crystal have abandoned their family brochure which puts it out of most families budget without the free child places – though if you book with the hotel direct, children up to 6 are free if sharing a room. We are definitely considering going back though not with Crystal who incidentally were pretty rubbish as reps go…
