hotel was spotless ..maid service very good.but as for the place itself....the streets were filthy...the locals hound you and try to rob you..they walk about with guns...there are dead dogs in the street.the travel agents don t tell you these things

This hotel is excellent. The staff are very helpful and always go out their way to be friendly. The room for 3 that we had overlooked the Nile and the Valley of the Kings. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The constant beeping of traffic can get a bit much... more

The Jewel of The Nile from alanhaines
This really is a wonderfully great value hotel. You get far more than you pay for and the St Joseph punches way above its weight. There are some very minor negatives to mention but dont let these detract from the many plusses. Firstly the pool, which is on the roof and very small has few sun beds. What sun beds there are are crammed tightly together so if you like to sun bathe in volume, you may need to make other arrangements. We just used another hotels pool along the road, which involved paying a small fee (About £2.50 each per day). The furniture in the hotel is dark and dated and might put some people off, but don't let it. (Its these factors which just prevent us giving an 'excellent' rating).Now the great points, it's spotlessly clean, sheets, towels all immaculate and changed daily. Showers provide lots of hot water. The staff are impressive by their efficiency and good nature. Hotel staff in Egypt are generally adept at applying pressure to give tips (even if not warranted) , not so at the St Joseph. The food quality and choice at breakfast was just amazing and there is something for everybodies taste. We did not take other meals at the hotel but other residents said that they were excellent. Based on the breakfast there is no need to disbelieve this. We have stayed in a supposedly 5 Star hotel in Luxor and the St Jospeph leaves it standing. We will challenge anybody to find a hotel anywhere in the world that gives better value for money
Watching the sun go down on the roof bar from Littlefishbigsea
I booked a very cheap last minute holiday in Luxor and the last time I stayed in the Meridian and was quiet nervous. We arrived just in time for dinner at 4.30 and after taking the slow lift up a rather outdated but spotlessly clean hotel, WOW, The Roof terrace has a wonderful restaurtant with can only be described as out of the world views of the sun going down over the valley of the kings. Very attentive waiters and (not very Egyptain) Chicken Noodles too die for, friendly service but not intrusive. Enjoy the wonderful towel sculptors that wait you in the evening and the warm face of the house keeping team. The wardrobe was the only one to watch out for, Its made only to hold trousers and skirts so if you have any party or cocktail dresses be warned its dwarf style. But if that is the only fault to be found, compared to the warmth (take note the staff are quiet shy and are trained to treat you like gods, as in there eyes we are all very wealthy, they earn about 5 pounds a day, so 50 eyptain pounds and you can spend that on a drink in their eyes your millionaires. Hopefully you will find the kind welcome that I received in October and going back in February to hopefully enjoy more wonderful sunsets.

Very very good hotel from sticky11
Just returned from a 2 week stay here as part of a package deal. The deal was very cheap and we weren't expecting much from the hotel, just a place to sleep. However, I have got to say that this hotel is a really good bargain!! It has a medium sized pool on the roof with great Nile views. Also, I was under the impression that one of the reasons it was cheap was because it was out of town, and although it is not as convenient as some other hotels, Luxor Temple is only a ten minute walk away and there are loads of shops and restaurants around the hotel. Our room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels, and the cleaner even made our bed for us every day too. We had a decent sized bathroom with a huge bath, we never had any problems getting hot water at any time of the day or night. I took my laptop with me and left it in the room for the entire two weeks, even when we stayed away in Cairo for 3 nights and in Aswan for 2 nights. I can safely say that nobody touched it the whole time, and that any time I left anything in the room I did not need to be concerned for it's safety. The staff are really friendly (sometimes too much so when you've got up to go on an excursion at 4am!) and they really will do everytihng they can to help you. If you do stay here we would recommend The Lantern, very calm, efficient, relaxing place to eat on an evening. The Lantern is also very close to the hotel. We also liked the New Sunrise and Maxime's on the main road, just head towards the Sheraton and you will find all the shops and restaurants.
Lovely Little Place from Evedy
When we first arrived in Luxor we passed a few grand hotels, The Iberotel, Sonesta and Meridian. We were the last drop off from the airport and found ourselves disapointed as we pulled up to St Joseph. It is not a hotel to look at, at all in terms of decor. We went upstairs to check out our room (406) and it was prefectly fine, nicely made beds, a reasonable sized bathroom, a TV, fridge and a fantastic balcony view of the nile and the west bank... our high expectations were restored fortunatly. This hotel offers so many highlights, every member of the staff.. even the room cleaners were a delight to speak to, the position of the hotel was excellent, the bar had a wonderful atmosphere (happy hours, 50% off.. 8-9pm and 10-11pm) and the resturant I would call lovely for both the service, food and prices! If I was to visit Luxor again, I would happily stay in this hotel as the prices are perfect, the services are wonderful (rooms are cleaned daily!) and the people are lovely and helpful (They even provide breakfast boxes and wake up calls if you ask in reception) P.s. Peter, the young guy in the resturant is a highlight of his own!

This is a one star hotel. It is old, dark and dingy. We checked in, saw our room, and immediately walked to an internet cafe to find an alternative. Even though we forfeited the fee for our 4 day stay, we still left. Perhaps if you are a backpacker on a very tight budget and only want a bed, this may do, as the price was only $38 per night. Other than that, avoid this dump.
Well worth the money from 62traveller
We stayed here for a week in October. The total cost of the trip from the UK including hotel and flight was £240 total for two of us The hotel is a little tired, and would benefit from a re-furb, but having said that: for what we paid the hotel was more than acceptable. The bathroom was brown marble, but clean. The staff are really really nice and helpful, and despite warnings we left stuff, including small amounts of cash lying around with absolutely no problem whatsoever. The rooms were cleaned every day The food on the roof terrace(small pool, amazing view) was excellent and really cheap. It is easy to eat enough breakfast to last the rest of the day, and the staff were happy to cook eggs any which way, although with more enthusiasm than skill.The hotel resturant is a bit gloomy and dour, but the food excellent. We had a 3 course meal, with perfect service, for an amazing £5.00 each. If you want a budget hotel stay here. There are people we met who have been back 8 or 9 times. This is a trully well run hotel. If you paid lots of money you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a budget place to stay, this more than meets the expectation.
A very, very good hotel from DellW
The St Jo's is a small, clean & very neat hotel. Brilliant service, good food and the pool is just right! Great views and well located. Definatly recommended.
3* hotel with 5* views from TSWSG
We have just come back from a 2 week stay. When we arrived on the saturday we had a problem with our room which had just been varnished. On request we were offered another and promised a room with a Nile view within the next 2 days. On the Monday we moved to a room with a fantastic view of the Nile and West Bank. It had aircon (a little noisy), fridge, tv with access to some english channels and balcony. On the downside the decor was dark gloomy and dated (in brown) but clean and the room was of a reasonable size. The roof terrace and pool are the hotels greatest asset affording as they do wonderful views of the Nile especially at sunset (see photos). The staff were friendly and helpful and the maid particularly attentive changing towels and sheets almost daily and leaving towel sculptures! The breakfast offered was quite varied including hot and cold options and juices. The hotel is well located and backs onto the local shopping area. The Corniche is a 5 minute walk with Luxor Temple 10 minutes on foot. Unfortunately there is no aircon in the hallways or lift and this is a smoking friendly hotel so if you are a non-smoker it could be off putting. On the whole a comfortable good value hotel and we would stay again.
What a bRilliant Hotel!!!!! from blobbo25
Well what can i say this holiday was brilliant.Let me first start with transfer from the airport to the hotel.It was really informative and very relaxed.Then when we arrived at the hotel all the staff were very friendly.The next day we ventured to the roof top terrace and were shocked at how very clean and orderly the place was.We ate manytimes on the rooftop and the food was really really good.The downstairs resturant was extremelly good and the service was A1 in my book.We are going back next year and cant wait to go the hotel was that good i have even decidede to take my brother and his other half aswell.Thank you st joesph's for a brilliant stay.
