More Traveller Reviews of Oceanis Hotel
5 Star & 2 Star
from dazzer1
My Wife and I plus our 2 Teenage Boys stayed at the Oceanis between 1st & 16th August 2007. This is a very difficult review to write as we felt although listed as a 4 Star some parts of the hotel were perhaps verging on a 5 Star whilst others could in our opinion be worth no more than a 2 Star!. Lets start at the higher end, The pool area was lovely, very clean and on only a few occassions did we have trouble in finding a sunbed. One downside perhaps was that you were allowed to take glasses around both poolsides which was not very health & safety concious, in fact on one occassion a child dropped a glass by the 2nd pool and another child stepped on it needing medical attention and causing the pool man to become very upset and aggitated!. The food was lovely with plenty of choice although again could have been more choice for the very young children staying. I have read before on this site about the wine and totally agree that the wine in the Restaraunt is far superior to that given at the snack bar. The rooms were adequate we were on the 4th floor even though we asked for the 5th as they have been refurbished. Lovely sea views although the rooms at the back are quieter and they look straight into the side of a mountain!. Again the rooms are very clean and a maid appears every day. Ok the downside, The Games room and Tennis courts are both very, very tired which was a shame as our boys would have spent a lot more time there if they were better. Entertainment was not the best and became very predictable. Marek, Dada & Matt tried hard but we felt they worked to a very stiff format and there was definately a lot of tension between the three of them which ended in Marek leaving the Oceanis the day before we came home. The professional entertainment once a week was also not fantastic. Ixia itself is fine for a amble around with the usual array of shops and bars, the beach is poor being part pebble and part shingle. Rhodes Town itself particularly the Old Town is very nice. Not a lot more can be said really, I wouldn't say its a hotel you must stay at but I also wouldnt say you would have a poor holiday if you stayed at the Oceanis. Experience it and judge for yourselves. Dave S. & Family...
Very enjoyable stay

We stayed at the Oceanis for 2 weeks from 25 July 07. We'd stayed there before in 1998 and 1999 when it was half board but thought we'd try it again as it was all inclusive. First impression was very good. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The food was really good and the pool was fab. The downside, we thought, was while they were promoting it as a family hotel and there were quite a lot of children there, there were large groups of teenage lads who, because drinks etc., were "all in", were helping themselves to beer from first thing in the morning and actually taking the glasses into the pool. The parents naturally removed their children from the pool as it was unsafe and I must admit I felt a bit intimidated by it. We were fortunate enough to have a room on the top floor, which was one of the recently refurbished ones. It was lovely. The maids came every day to change the bedlinen and towels and were always very friendly towards us. You couldn't fault the meals and the head waiter was really lovely, making us feel special. They had an animation team which did activities during the day and in the evening. It was very loud at night and went on until about midnight so we tended to not go to bed too early as it would have been difficult to get to sleep. All in all, we had a brilliant stay at the Oceanis but our one concern was that it rather spoiled things with the large groups of lads being too boisterous around the pool area. Some hotels actually do not allow large numbers of single sex groups and I think if they adopted this ruling at the Oceanis, more families would go there. We would certainly go back to the Oceanis and it was really good value for money. In fact we actually brought some back with us this year, which is a first!!
Hotel Oceanis

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the above Hotel.. We were lucky enough to be on the 5th floor (requested top floor and asked for last room on corridor from travel booking and we got it too!!). The room was great, air con, fridge, key card, lovely sea view, towels and sheets changed every day and the room was spotless. Fantastic food,at dinner if you did not like the look of some of the dishes there was enough choice to get a good plateful of chips, potatoes, salads pastas etc so that you would never go hungry. Breakfasts were good too and all sorts of different dishes on offer, and you could go as many times as you wanted. Snacks 3 times a day (we were sick of eating!!) The beer was local (bit weak) but was okay. The bar in the evening was staffed by the lovely Yannis who worked so hard - mostly on his own- to run a tight ship and try to do the best by all the customers (he also does a great windmill impression when agitated) and pours a cracking great big Metaxa!. I have to say that the hotel staff (especially in the restaurant) are a fantastically efficient team that will go the exta mile for you. The Animation team (Matt, Dada and Marek) are great for kids and try to chat to as many people as possible during their working hours and try to socialise and include everyone in their entertainment programe. On the whole a cracking hotel that is in a brilliant location for getting out and about easily - especially recommend you go to see the old town at Rhodes - you will wander for miles and be overawed at the history in the fantastic historical streets. We fully intend to go back to see some more of this beautiful island.

Date - 14 July 2007 (11 nights) Reviewer - Newcastle-under-Lyme I have just returned form the Oceanis Ixia with my partner, 4 year old daughter and two friends. For my partner and I this was our 3rd trip to Rhodes and we chose the Oceanis as it was closer to Rhodes Town which we love the old part and wanted to show our friends who had not travelled to Rhodes before. The Oceanis is off the main road leading into Rhodes, this road can be very busy not just at night but also in the day. Some hotels have a tunnel going under the road leading to the shingle beach, we ourselves tend to go around the pool in the day as my daughter would prefer this. Could not fault the pool area my daughter even went in the big pool which is 1.5 m all the way round (she even learnt to swim without her armbands). The food was fantastic (we all gained weight), I am not a vegetarian but I even tried some which I could not fault. The only fault I had with the hotel was the layout of the snack bar/bar at lunch time this could have been organised better. As for the bar in the evening this was operated by more than one bar man when I was their, but we use to go out at night and return for last orders and there did tend to be a queue. As for the entertainment it was ok but I have had much better. As for the cleanliness of the hotel you could also not fault this. ps - I booked with on the beach holidays who state that this hotel has a gym and sauna, this is not the case I asked a receptionist who had worked their for 26 years and he said it had never had a gym and sauna while he had worked their (this was a bit disappointing to myself and a friend who attend a gym back home)

OVERALL ID GIVE THIS HOTEL A GOOD 8 1/2 OUT OF 10 .Got to hotel at dinner time, staff very helpful, room a little dissapointing due to "mountain veiw" but clean. My son who is 7 took a virus with him( we discovered from phoning home). All the staff couldnt be more helpful, in providing info on hospital phoning taxi ect. When we were told he should only eat certain foods due to the runs ect, the restaurant manager was brilliant, he arranged with the chef to prepare anything he wanted even if it wasnt on The menu for that day. Maid service brilliant, clean sheets and towells every day! The only slight down sides to our stay were the entertainment ,which was pretty lame to say the least., Yanis the barman was a little miserable and had a tendancy to run out of beer glasses at around 10.30!!! DONT LET THEM COLLECT YOUR GLASS AFTER THIS TIME OR YOU WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER BEER!!!
Good hotel, let down only by its management
from MyBigToe
Firstly, this wasnt my choice in hotel and i'll admit that while it wasnt up to the standard I'd expect in a "4 star" hotel (for reasons ill get back to), I had a much, much better time than I envisaged. Firstly, the food isnt bad, especially for all inclusive. Theres alot of it and a good amount of choice, even for those of us that are vegetarian. A couple of problems being that sometimes the vegetarian pasta had meat in it (whether or not it was fish, I dont know) also, as with most buffet type foods, vegetarian food was always placed next to the messy meat foods. The food was basic, meat, veg, potatoes etc, but with a multitude of deserts and breakfast choices, it certainly made it better. Now, with the drinks, there was the odd problem. Beer was easy enough, with it on tap throughout most of the day, but at night the queue for the bar and beer grew to lengths long enough for people to give up. Only one person EVER served at the bar, for the whole hotel, no matter how many people there were (between 8 and 11pm the queue could be 20 people deep). The waiters were friendly and helpful and just as dismayed by the managements refusal to man the bar properly. The rooms are very very basic. Matresses are very firm, theres no tea facilities, rooms are tatty and aged except for on the top floor thats been refurbished recently. If you dont expect to stay in the room except to sleep and get ready, this isnt a problem at all. The cleaners on the other hand, sometimes ignore "do not disturb" notices, and at which times are hard to get rid of, even if they can see that youre asleep. They dont always give fresh towels (they sometimes put them on the balcony to dry) probably a management decision. One thing to note is the beach, a stoney, shingle beach that without shoes/flip-flops is very painful to walk on. And you must cross quite a busy road to get there. The view is great (if you have a sea facing view - else you see just the side of a mountain) with the outline of Turkey very visible on clear days. If youre not one for just lounging by the pool, Its very close to Rhodes Town costing 7 euro for a taxi there and 6 euro back, although its within walking distance (60-75 mins) I would suggest also that if youre interests go further than the drink and the sunshine, rent a car and visit areas like Monolithos, Profitas Ilias and Prassonisi. In all, the staff are very very friendly and up for a laugh, but this is let down by what seems to be management policy to reduce costs (lack of staff and service). This hotel is not 4-star but it does exactly what it says on the tin. If you have good company, youll have a good time.
Totally Relaxing

All areas of the hotel are kept very clean.Al the staff are very happy and helpfull. We stayed on the fourth floor in a very clean and comfortable room. When we first saw our room we were a bit gutted that we had a view of a mountain but you get used to it and it is very quiet. The food is fantastic with a wide selection of choice including certain foods for children. The entertainment was good with mini disco for the children and a show after that. medi the leader of the animation team is very entertaining and will make a great difference to your holiday. The area of Ixia is quiet with a few shops and bars but the town of rhodes is only five minutes in a taxi. I would go back to this hotel without a doubt.
Go to the Oceanis You'll Love it!
from ALMCoDown
Loved the Oceanis! Would return in the morning given half the chance! Arrived middle of night. Got taxi from Airport, take it from me it saves any hassle of looking for bus and then drop offs and as we seem to nearly always be the last drop off on each trip we decided to take a taxi. Brilliant walked out of the terminal and jumped into taxi. 13 euros is the set price but given half a chance they will try and charge a bit more. 10 minutes later we where there! The reception area was beautiful and modern and check-in was speedy. First impressions of our room (2nd floor) was a bit dated and small but absolutely spotless so we where happy! The food was gorgeous and although like most all inclusives some things where repetitive they did have several different dishes on each night. The desserts where good and I loved the ice-cream. I thought the food was of high quality and especially liked the different soup each night. The staff where very efficient. The head waiter especially was very attentive and if you go down about 7 or just before in the evening he will try and give you the veranda overlooking the Turkish coast and beautiful sunset over the sea. Very romantic! The only down side I felt was the wine wasn’t the best, in fact it was pretty poor. On the other hand I loved the beer so I was happy! The shops and bars of Ixia are only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel and Rhodes town a short taxi ride away. The beach was across a very busy road and was pebble/shingle but I thought it was really beautiful! I had never been to Greece before but have now since booked Crete for September. I have never met nicer people anywhere and we found prices to be cheap in the local shops and bars. Will definately not be returning to Spain again! Go to Oceanis, you will love it!
Brilliant First Class

Fab Fab Fab.....We arrived at 11pm just too late for a free drink but they had cookies and fresh orange juice out at reception a lovely touch... the reception area etc was very impressive..they say first impressions count and this one was 100%. We where given a room on the 3rd floor wanted floor 5 as these are refurbished (but looked a refurbished room and the ONLY difference was the door from, a key card rather than a key, laminated floor rather than carpet and that was it) The rooms where a lovely size with 2 single beds which seem rather low at first but comfy. LOADS and LOADS of draws, wardrobe space, bathroom was small but hey you only wash, shower and go to the loo!!! But loads of shelf space for toiletries. We had 2 rooms with a mountain view which was nice as you got he sun in the morning and afternoon and NO NOISE!!!! Front facing get the sun in the evening and noise from below in the evening. Rooms cleaned towels changed and beds change EVERY day. The cleaners seemed to start on our floor at the far end of the corridor so they didn’t get to our room till mid afternoon, but if you put the do not disturb notice on your door they wont come in. ROOMS get 100% Restaurant was lovely lovely staff and lovely food…ok the food tended to be similar each day i.e. fish, meat, etc but always a different sort of meat and fish, the chef at the end cooked a different dish each night. Loads of Salads, pastas, spaghetti, vegetarian dishes normally 2 each night, chips, potatoes, in fact I felt there was a very good choice of food. There was also a different soup on each night which was lovely; fresh loafs of bread I got hooked on the nutty brown loaf!! Wine red and white, beer and soft drink all free I stuck to the white wine which was lovely parents had the red. You can take a glass of wine down stairs after your meal (hint wine in bar isn’t nice!!! But restaurant wine is lovely!!!) Sweets the normal but they did have one or 2 different types of cake on each night. Breakfast again I was hooked on the nutty brown bread and I would have peaches. They really had what normal hotels have for breakfast cereal, pancakes, bread, yogurt, bacon, eggs, beans etc etc Free tea, coffee, water fresh orange juice. Snack time at 10.30am!!! Which is down in the snack bar at the out side dinning area and pool area. Lunch 12.30 till 2pm a good choice hot and cold and also ice cream and dessert. Snack at 3.30pm ish hot things and sandwiches and lovely fresh fruit sliced. Cakes and biscuits at 4pm!!! Then dinner as above at 6.30pm we went in at 6.30pm and never found it a problem we used to leave by about 8pm-8.30pm but even then we never saw a queue of people waiting for seats and the hotel was FULL. Oh and they have snacks at about 10pm!!!! Drinks from about 11am from the snack bar Brandy, Vodka, Rum, Gin, Whiskey, Camparie (I got stuck on camparie and fresh orange juice!!!), beer, wine and soft drinks including water!!! All available. There was no problem re putting towels out before 8am but to be honest the hotel was full but there were always sun beds. Ok if you wanted a special spot and the same spot each time then people put their towels out. Pool cold, cold, cold but very welcome from the heat. The depth is the same all the way round and it makes it nice to swim round the pool as it is like a river in a circle!!! Just go down the steps and jump in!!!! Area round the pool very attractive grassed and concrete areas, plenty of fixed shades. Entertainment is the same each day and evening so yes they do have entertainment but it is the same things. The fellas that do the day time things are a good laugh. Sitting area in reception and lunge areas where very nice and spacious, you didn’t feel you where sitting on top of each other. Small shop which is fine re prices for water, papers etc. Small area for children at back of hotel with slide climbing frame etc and also a standard oblong pool. Can’t think of any thing more!!!
Friendly staff, good food (got repetitive after 4 days though) drinks always available, entertainment on the cheap side.
The hotel itself VERY nice and clean, we had a mountain view ...nice and quiet –go there again. Mosquitoes can be a problem, their bites can be nasty.
