Overall good/average holiday, The...

Jun 2007, Mrs C Craddock

Overall good/average holiday, The hotel staff were friendly (other than the maids, who ignored the do not disturb sign on numerous occasions).
I personally thought the food was average with limited choice; however other people travelling in my party really enjoyed it.
There was limited drinks available, cheap wine, and cheap soft drinks! However there was a lager tap (to help yourself) near the sunbeds which was handy.
It was a nightmare trying to get a sunbed as there just isn’t enough for the quantity of guests staying in the hotel, and when you do manage to get one you feel like you’re being watched because there all crammed together with no privacy. Very rowdy during the day, mainly due to loud music.
The hotel itself is walking distance to local shops in Ixia and there’s a bus stop just outside hotel heading towards Rhodes town etc. Old Rhodes Town was nice and when we go to Rhodes again, I would try and stay near there as oppose to Ixia.

We booked one week in Ixia, all...
1 / 10
Jun 2007, Miss T Dyominova

We booked one week in Ixia, all inclusive. First & foremost the Hotel is not of 4 star standard & we were extremely and utterly disappointed.
The description on this webpage and many others is extremely misleading & will lead to disappointment. Listed below are our findings.
1. The description says “our beach”; the hotel does not have its own beach. The beach belongs to other hotels & you will have to pay for a sun lounger. Further to this and in our opinion even worse, some websites describe the beach as sandy. There is no sand at all, do not be fooled.
2. The mild breeze described is not actually mild at all; it is a constant cold wind which the residents confirmed is existent throughout the year.
3. There is no room service.
4. There is no teas & coffee facility in the room.
5. There is no toiletries provided, except soap & we had to ring reception 3 times to get any.
6. There is no iron in the room, the ironing is provided by the cleaners only in the morning and 2 garments cost us 3.50 Euro!
7. No mini bar in the room.
8. Breakfast time finishes at 9.30, very early for us.
9. You have to wear trousers to dinner no shorts allowed!
10. You must wear a yellow wrist band at all times.
11. The food is of below average & at times awful standard.
12. If you ask for tissues or extra napkins during dinner you will be greeted with surprise and they will only offer you one napkin.
13. No fruit, food, or drink allowed out of the restaurant, e.g. have a nice glass of wine on the balcony not allowed.
14. Nothing authentic Greek, food or drink etc etc...!!
15. Staff were at times obnoxious & arrogant.
16. We even heard stories the sea water might not be the cleanest.
We went to Faliraki as recommended by numerous locals & taxi drivers who advised Faliraki would be a better option.
On reaching Faliraki we found that the resort absolutely does not deserve the bad reputation it has. It has a beautiful sandy beach & lovely clean sea & no wind.
To avoid a complete disaster and waste of our time and money (£374pp on all inclusive IXIA Oceanis), we thought the best option would be to find another hotel or some accommodation in Faliraki which we luckily found & liked instantly.
It was certainly not what we had hoped we had booked at Ixia (supposedly a 4 star hotel) however it provided us with nice clean room with a sea view at a cheap rate and with a great host. So in the end we decided to incur extra costs to rescue our holiday.
Faliraki offers everything the holiday makers need: Great sun, Blue Sea, Sandy Beach, Great authentic food, and great and friendly service from locals which we received from every restaurant and café that we went to.
In summary, Oceanis is fine for those that wish to stay at a hotel all week & do nothing other than sit by a pool & be fed poor quality food & drink. For those that want to find a bit of what Greece has to offer rather than just sun, we would discourage you from staying at Oceanis.
In addition within 24 hours of booking the holiday online we were contacted by our agent On The Beach who requested an extra £35 per person to secure our holiday, we disputed this and said that is not fair, however we were told if we did not pay the extra cost we would lose our booking. So we paid extra.
Furthermore communication from admin staff at On The Beach was extremely poor after booking. As soon as they had the money, they didn’t want to speak to us at all, no customer service telephone number.

This hotel was very clean, all the areas public or otherwise were spot on for cleanliness.
The food was plentiful and of a good standard, the staff were all very good and pleasant even though they were a mix of all nationalities.
The pools were clean, and the gardens well kept, we loved it, one of the best hotels we have been in around the world, we hope to go back.

Decor in public areas was very good, but some attention could be paid to a couple of water drops which even people with good eye-sight missed and therefore tripped over!
Rooms were very basic, but included a fridge and television. The television was badly tuned and it was not easy to find channels. The fridge was ok, but you couldn't leave it switched on whilst you were not in the room.
Food was good (especially the breakfasts) but almost everything had onions added, and the veg was frozen not fresh. The waiters were generally good, one or two letting the side down though.
Information on what was and wasn't included in the half-board was very poor. It wasn't until the third night that we were told that there was decent wine available for us. There was very poor choice of drinks at the bar, and only one person serving.
Apart from the above, the hotel was good, and an excellent base from which to explore the island, there being a bus stop right outside the hotel for both directions.

Our flight did not arrive until after...
5 / 10
Oct 2006, Mr J W Shearer

Our flight did not arrive until after 9.30pm so no food was available on arrival. First bad mark! Fortunately we found a kiosk selling sandwiches close by so could reduce hunger pangs.
Hotel was generally clean but a bit dated and showing signs of wear. Public areas were noisy. With temperatures (unseasonably?) in the 30's the absence of air conditioning was a major discomfort factor. Apparently the switch off of AC is determined by date and not temperature and the AC remained off despite the best efforts of our excellent tour guide. Room was reasonable and clean, bathroom likewise though rather cramped.
We had room at back of hotel hence the dire and noisy nightly entertainment was not too much of a nuisance - as it was for acquaintances at front of hotel. Main pool was OK but seating was crowded and relaxation was spoiled by loud, unpleasant music. Food was OK, just. Breakfasts were poor but dinners were better and service was very good. We only found out about free courtesy lunch for HB guests on our last day - there being a general lack of information provided by the hotel.
Beach surprisingly OK given warnings about shingle and proximity of main road to Rhodes city. Shingle gives way to sand after 3 or 4 metres. Main problem was crossing the road which usually involved a wait of several minutes for a break in traffic. Not a hotel to which we would return but as we were on a walking holiday we could spend most days away from the hotel!

Aug 2006, Mr M Wright

As an all inclusive hotel we found the drinks on offer very limited. Wine undrinkable and several soft drinks tasted like washing up liquid.
The food was of reasonable standard but very repetative. Limited sunbeds even at 8am. Hotel itself very clean and currently under renovation which is needed. Garden maintenance lacking. Very muddy around pool where grass should have been.
Staff very helpfull especially in the restaurant, how ever reception staff could have been better especially the night shift. Snack bar and afternoon cakes that should have been available, non-exsistent.

Jul 2006, Mr A.S Smith

My wife and I visited the Oceanis Hotel in Rhodes for 2 weeks in July. First impressions of the Hotel superb the atmosphere amazing the pool fantastic I cannot complain about anything. The service and friendliness of staff was excellent. A range of excellent food available for both breakfast and dinner done in a buffet style.
This is a superb hotel newly refurbished (only the rooms they have renovated 1 floor but they are continuing this winter). This hotel is by far the best we have been too. My wife had her birthday and when we arrived in the room a nice surprise was waiting for us, a bottle of Champagne.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It was brilliant.

Jul 2006, Miss N Bolton

Just got back and had a great holiday! The hotel was spotless and cleaned everyday. Food was ok, not a great deal of choice but was always something to eat - Spearos the head waiter was very friendly and welcoming.
Also the old man on the main bar was lovely and very chatty, but the man on the snack bar was a grump for the whole 2 weeks we were there. The other staff made up for him though. Rooms were a bit dates but very clean, and only the top 2 floors have been refurbished. Entertainment was ok, but we complained as one of the team was very rude to us, and we were told a new team would be starting the day after we left, don’t know if they have!
Only fault was the drinks, cheap cola and awful coffee, but we put up with it! Had a great holiday and loved Rhodes, would definitely visit the island again!

Jul 2006, Mr F Mc Laughlin

I'm just back from Rhodes and I have to say I really enjoyed my stay at hotel Oceanis, the cleaning staff were top class at their work, in the bars the staff were friendly apart from one man who is very dull and blunt, the food at the snack bar was fine and tea and coffee is always available there.
The manager of the restaurant is a complete gentleman who greets you every time you enter the restaurant with a smile and shows you to a table, the food was very good with a good selection.
The entertainment was poor enough although the guys did try their best, but there could be more live music. The pool suited all ages, my two kids loved the pool which was also very clean and there was no mad rush to find a sun bed as there were plenty of them.
Overall my family were very happy with hotel Oceanis and would consider going back there gain. But give that dull barman who is in late 30's early 40's a job cutting the grass and give the friendly gardener a job behind the bar ha ha. Thank you.

Just back from my first visit to...

Jun 2006, Mrs A Sims

Just back from my first visit to Rhodes. Stayed at the Hotel Oceanis for 1 week all inclusive and was suitably impressed. The hotel itself is absolutely immaculate. They seemed to clean it top to bottom every day. The pool is fantastic and the hotel lobby is ultra-modern.
Buffet food was about standard. Most of it edible and sufficiently cooked. Sunday night is Greek night which is worth a mention. Tasty. If you want to go out for the day, they'll give you a packed lunch (which we ordered for the journey home!). Snacks in between buffet times weren't great and the coffee is terrible, but there are plenty of shops nearby, as well as one in the hotel.
You're best to order your drinks, a few at a time, because the bars tend to be understaffed. There's one grumpy barman that won’t smile at you, but you'll probably guess who that is on your first day. Look out for the friendly busboy - he'll keep you entertained as he clears away your glasses. That's worth a tip, because other than that the entertainment is nothing to write about!
Taxi to Rhodes town - 6 euro (well worth it), boat trip to Lindos - about 20 euro, but you're not missing much. You sit on a boat for a couple of hours to go to a cramped beach for a couple of hours, then sit for another couple of hours on the return journey. You can go into the town of Lindos but you might get a nosebleed when you eventually get to the top of the hill you have to climb from the beach.
Tip for any men going - There is a dress code for dinner - long trousers. So in case you thought you'd be running around in your shorts for 2 weeks - think again.
Enjoy your holiday.

Apr 2006, Mr D.W Davies

Arrived at this hotel at night and was very impressed with the modern and airy reception.
The room allocated was at the rear of the hotel over looking the mountain and the small pool which was fine, but the best rooms were to the front with sea views and overlooking large impressive pool. The room itself was dated but very clean and note the additional charge for air /con.
These rooms are to be up-graded for the following season, two rooms opposite had been done lets hope the others will follow. The food was very good and plentiful at all times. Ordered packed lunch and didn’t know what to expect, was like a hamper well impressed.
Our only complaint was the lack of staff covering the bar where at times 2/3 deep and the entertainment was so/so. But good value and would book again.

Aug 2005, jayne90

This was the first time that we had travelled with Hellenic Voyages and must admit that my husband and I were a little dubious. However Hellenic Voyages came up trumps in our opinion.
The hotel was fab especially the public areas that have recently been renovated. The bedrooms were a little dated but exceptionally clean, however we were informed that all the rooms are to be refurbished in 2006 and that their are show rooms on the top floor for you to view.
All of the hotel staff were very pleasant and extremely well mannered and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel animation team provided entertainment day and night and were really enjoyable considering that this was the first season that the Oceanis had provided this.
The only negative comment that I can provide is that with having an eight year old daughter and the amount of children that were in the hotel that there needs to be more activities for the younger age range.
I found the food to be plentiful and of a good variety to suit everyone’s taste buds.
Overall an excellent hotel to which I would definitely stay at again and recommend to all ages.
