The room was very dusty and in need of a clean. our toilet stopped working and we had to have a call-out meaning no water for a day. were advised to take any valubles with as maids not always honest. when we were staying there it was being done up so there were tremendous smells of paint, varnish etc and constant noise. we had the windows open most of the time. the concierge, tom, was extremely helpful.
when in san francisco you must bike across the golden gate bridge, go to pier 39, sausalito, alcatraz.. there's so much to do, a wonderful city. however do AVOID ellis street it is very rough with druggies and alcoholics down there dealing. we didnt know and walked straight down it feeling very uncomfortable. we had to hold on to the children as we were getting very strange looks. my husband was even offered 'abitta perfect pot for ya here mate'. awful. there are lots of tramps, transvestites. my advice dont look at the tramps and then they will leave you alone. make sure you hold onto your bags and keep them zipped up cause lots of pick pockets too.
we also went to golden gate park for a day- a very long walk through some dodgy parts of the city--take a tram, deffo. in golden gate park.. it is packed full of weirdo's. the kids and even myself felt threatened and scared.
overall san francisco a lovely city but i would not choose this hotel again. :)
