We had a family holiday over the christmas period here. It was in the process of a refurb which was good as only half the hotel was occupied. We have seen a refurbed room the manager took us to see one and they are fab, if any one stays from end of jan 09 onwards they will... more

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Staff were friendly enough. Pool was always packed so deck chairs were hard to come by. There was a beautiful view of the Nile from our bedroom window which was a perk. Restaurants of all types are on the hotel grounds for a choice which was... more

Was not refurbished as promised, only a lick of paint. Entertainment very poor. Not clean.
Under-staffed,but the staff they had worked hard for the pennies they receive in wages and were very helpful.
The Sheraton is trading on name alone and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Disappointing hotel with small, cramped rooms, nonexistent balconies and tiny bathrooms. The loo was in a dark cupboard! Supposed to be the best (top) floor in the hotel so we had paid extra. Wanted to move but bungalows were far worse, dark and gloomy - not very clean... more

What a shame the previous reviewers went during the renovation. By the time we arrived at the Sheraton, building work had almost finished and the workmen had created a plush reception area, bright and airy restaurant/breakfast room which overlooked the Nile and a swish bar.... more

Whole of the ground floor is under renovation at present and virtually out of action. The pool area and furniture are very shoddy and in need of urgent replacement. The outside pools which housed exotic birds have been drained and there are large pipes exposed. The... more

Egypt is a fascinating country. Luxor is amazing. The people are especially accommodating and friendly; they hassle the tourists but they accept a simple no thanks gracefully. ("la shukran" in Egyptian) This is expected as at the end of the day it is a third world country... more

Oh dear. What a let down! The place looked great in the brochure, but the photographer was very clever. The pool is TINY and we had to queue up for sunloungers even though the hotel was half empty (August is supposed to be a quiet time). It was just like a 3 star Spanish... more

Our hotel the Sheraton was fab!! This was a 4 star but was almost a 5 in my view over looking the Nile. Location wise we were 5 - 10 min walk form the temple of Karnack & Luxor temple which were both in my opinion were the 2 best temples to visit, We took many other... more

Nice enough, but a bit over the top on service. There were men to open the toilet door, men to hand you the soap, men in a band at the hotel who struck up when you left or returned to the hotel. Combined with a weeks cruise on the Nile, this was an excellent holiday, and... more

An excellent holiday! The Nile cruise the first week was first rate, a 5 star floating hotel, then to the Sheraton Luxor for week two. Food was excellent, the accommodation was excellent, the service was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful and all spoke good... more

Fanastic Hotel
The sheraton is a great hotel, very clean, fantastic service and the rooms are a good size with a nice size bathroom and come with satellite tv. The breakfast buffet is fabulous and has enough fresh or cooked food to satisfy anyones tastes. I loved the pool with the brilliant nile views, the pool guys are also very friendly and more than happy to bring food & drinks direct to your sun lounger! In terms of location the hotel is great, loads of very good(and cheap!) restuarants 3-5 mins walk from the hotel. Its also just 5 mins in a taxi to the main luxor centre(where luxor temple/museum etc are located). Taxi ride from the hotel to luxor temple(town centre) is 10 egyptian pounds(£1) each way, do not pay ANYMORE no matter what the taxi drivers tell you. Always agree the price before gettin in a cab, and take taxis instead of calache's as the later always try and rip you off. If you want to read my full guide to luxor go here - -------------- Hope u enjoy luxor as much as we did.
fantastic
just had our honeymoon at this hotel. wow can't praise it enough. the people are wonderful, the food is lovely and quite cheap too. the pool is idealy situated looking right out over the nile. try and get a nile view if you can, it's well worth it!! we did a balloon flight over the valley of the kings, highly recommended!
Loving Luxor
Spent a week at this hotel from 26/12/05. Very nice and relaxing place to get some winter sun. Service was good, look out for the pool man as he will want a tip for getting you a sun lounger, i think i saw him getting into a Ferrari one night. Food good, facilities good, bar ok with a touch of dodgy singing but it was Christmas.
Sheraton Luxor - good hotel, not spectacular
I booked a room at a good rate in the Sheraton,Luxor through Otel.com. I found the hotel comfortable enough and good value at the price I paid. I respect an hotel that does not overcharge for the minibar, especially in hot countries where you need to drink a lot. This hotel has a good deal for the minibar where you can get something like 10 soft drinks or so for about $6. They also have a kiosk selling bottled water etc at close to shop prices. However drinks and food served in the hotel are relatively expensive. While there is wireless Internet access, for those of us who do not bring our laptop on holiday, the Internet access facilities are poor. Two PCs available in the lobby cost LE70/hour ($12).
A bit secluded location
We stayed at the sheraton luxor for 4 nights recently and had a garden-view room with 2 twin beds. The rooms were clean, shower tub was a bit awkward being placed horizontal with very little room in the bathroom, it appeared to be retrofitted. We were on the fourth floor, being Starwood Preferred Gold. Check-in took a horrendous amount of time, almost 30-45 minutes. The staff were incompetent and not what you would expect from Sheraton in any other country. They had trouble with the reservation, kept telling us to come back since the room wasn't ready, etc. Check-out was equally as painful if not even longer. The restaurants in the hotel were ok. They have an indian place, italian, and their own restaurant. Food was clean and safe, prices were more expensive than other hotels. Location was secluded away from the bustle of luxor, but required taking a taxi to get to most sites. They did offer a shuttle to luxor museum that ran every hour which was nice.
Balcony? All I see is a window box!
Paid for a room with a Nile view and balcony. Got the most incredible view of the river, but top floor rooms have an 18 inch wide 'balcony' so could not even stand on it in comfort! (No chairs as no room!)Tour company rep was insisted that we had what we paid for... eventually moved us lower down the hotel so we could sit on the balcony we had paid for. BE WARNED the brochures are flexible with the truth!!! The hotel was clean but disappointing compared to others like the amazing New Winter Palace's Pavilion. Food choices were great, especially the Pelican restaurant - but avoid the 'Indian' curry as it is just spicy gravy. Swimming pool was small and crowded, sunbeds were limited, space was at a premium and it all felt like a 3 star Spanish B+B. Even a cheap hotel like the Etap (Mercure Coralia) has a better pool area. Once you get used to the view of the river, the location is a bit of a draw back as everything is a hot taxi ride away from the town's sights and sites - add at least £10 a day to your spending money if you really want to enjoy the town. We've visited Luxor 6 times now and we were disappointed by this hotel: we just could not have the holiday that we expected.
Nice hotel, great location
Got a great deal from the Sheraton website, and bagged a club room (nile view, top floor) for less then my local travelodge ! Overall we had a great time (wife plus 2 kids 8& 2). Hotel has a great location by the edge of the Nile - stunning views. Pool was clean, heated and service was great. Rooms were nice size, bathroom was a bit dated - but everything was clean and more importantly we felt very safe. Food was superb, and the breakfast buffet had everything you could have wanted. Remember Egypt is a Muslim country so no Pork/bacon etc. Would definately go back.
Room with its own Chicken Coop Next Door
Albeit we spent our time in Cairo at the Four Seasons which was wonderful, we were very disappointed with the Sheraton after being told our room had a nile view (while standing at the front desk checking in) to be lead far away from the river, behind other buildings, to be backed onto a chicken coop. The room was uninspired, depressing and would be fine, had I been 22 and backpacking through Egypt. If possible, I would recommend booking the Le Meridien as soon as possible. We tried more than seven months out and they were already booked.
A little dissapointed
I stopped at the sheraton Luxor for 4 nights, we stopped in one of the garden rooms which were ok. the main dissapointment was the buffet resturant, the food was of very poor quality and they did not have enough staff waiting on and clearing tables. the other resturants in the hotel were very good Italian & Indian. The prices for drinks & food were also a little expensive.
Very Tired
I always thought the Sheratons to be reasonable class hotels, not this one it is very tired. The pool and terrace bar furniture is a disgrace, cane furniture which went out of date & service at least 10 years ago, the lounger matresses were dirty and falling apart. The pool is small and the water was NOT crystal clear. The owners need to spend money or lose money/customers. The rooms are very small - motel size, fortunately we got a 'good' rate on our room. The prices for drinks and food were higher than a 5* in Cairo! The staff are quite helpful and friendly. I would be reluctant to stay there again or recommmend this hotel.
