La Jolla, just outside San Diego is a delightful place to spend a week or so.
We’re city dwellers (London, UK) so the relaxed pace of La Jolla was a tonic. It has everything from chic department stores (saks), great places to get a pedicure and a wide selection of restaurants and cafes.
Brockton Villas is a must - booking is advisable, and the setting is beautiful. Grandpa’s chicken curry was a hit with Pete and I sunk a cool glass of wine whilst looking out onto the Ocean.
The hotel looks pretty unremarkable from the outside but is a great price for a clean hotel in a handy location.
There is a regular nearby farmer’s market and everything you need without the city stresses.

On the southern tip of California lies San Diego. On my numerous trips to the area, I have always thoroughly enjoyed my stay and have always longed to return.
The Bayside Holiday Inn is conveniently located for the downtown and Gas Lamp districts, only being a short hop away. The hotel itself, whilst conforming to the basic Holiday Inn model was basic but clean and excellent value for money.
Visits to Coronado and the Gas Lamp quarter are a must, the latter providing nightly entertainment, good food and drinking. The climate is possibly the best in the world, providing the long sunny days of central America tempered by the cooling breezes from the Pacific Ocean.
