Stayed at the hotel for a week at the end of November 2011. It was brilliant! Staff cannot do enough for you. If you can, pay for a room with a Nile view, it is magnificent, we overlooked the Valley of the Queens. We went B & B, food was very good. Near enough to Luxor... more

I was left feeling very disappointed with all aspects of this hotel, particularly the way I was treated by the staff who were both miserable and rude. As a young woman, with respect for all cultures and beliefs, I myself felt as if I was being judged and frowned upon and... more

Let me start with the good: Weather = Faultless (although this bares no reflection on the hotel). I'm afraid that's it - other than the odd member of staff being helpful whom were the cleaners. All other staff above were utterly rude, unhelpful and discourteous. The Food... more

This is a lovely hotel on the banks of the Nile - clean and comfortable. The staff are courteous and friendly. However I have only rated it 7 out of 10 because when I was there between 22nd and 29th October 2007 there were up to 5 Nile cruisers only yards from the swimming... more

Stunning location, great rooms
This is a lovely hotel with all the amenities in downtown Luxor. Combo tub/shower with all the toletries replaced daily. Huge towels. The room was also given a spiff-up in the early evenings and fresh towels and toiletries, if used, were replaced. My room overlooked the interior courtyard because I was on an MISR tour, not a full-paying individual guest with the Nile River view. The courtyard rooms were still very nice. Each had a balcony with chairs to sit overlooking the court and restaurants. What an experience. To see from the riverside of the hotel the view across the Nile to the Valley of the Kings. Awesome! You could also hire a felucca for a short sail. There were many guests using the Nile side pool and lounges. The hotel had an outdoor "room" featuring shiksa smoking. It looked very Moorish. Because I went to bed early,I did not see the area being used. There were 3 musicians in the courtyad in the evening playing Egyptian music. One night they were joined by a belly dancer. What can I say? The dancer made a half-hearted effort but mostly she waved her scarf in lieu of serious abdominal or hip moves. The buffet breakfast, served indoors or outdoors both with a view of the Nile, was excellent. There were stations set up for freshly prepared omelettes and fried eggs, many chafing dishes with hot cereals. There were many combination fruit dishes as well as bananas and huge oranges for those who were cautioned to eat only fruit that they could peel. There were the usual cold meat and assorted cheeses as well as the beef and chicked based sausages in chafing dishes. Additionally there was a large bread station with an additional choice of sweet rolls.
A Very Special Hotel - Le Meridien, Luxor
This is my second stay at this very special hotel and I'm beginning to feel it is my second home. The General Manager Mr Olivier Robinet leads by example. He cares about his guests and wants them all to enjoy their holiday and have a relaxing time. He will take care of any problems which arise. This is reflected in the friendly, helpful manner of all his staff throughout the hotel from the doormen to the excellent poolside staff. Everyone is there to ensure your stay is enjoyable. The hotel atmosphere is very nice, warm and welcoming. The rooms are spacious, attractive & clean. The Nile view is beautiful. The food is excellent. The service is very good. It is a first class base to stay at whilst taking trips to explore Ancient Egypt. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and I can't wait to go back there again.
Loved the location
My husband and I stayed at the Le Meridien in Luxor last year. We loved the location of the hotel, build overlooking the nile and in the distance you can see the valley of the Kings. We were very impressed with the hotel, the reception staff are very helpful, the General Manager Olivier Robert is there for his guests, making sure every body is having a good holiday and if there are any problems he is there to sort them out. The food was excellent and all the catering staff are excellent and are making sure you are having a great holiday. The hotel rooms are great and the service is very good The overall comments we can make is, the hotel has got a nice atmosphere and you can please yourselves. We also like to say that the tour guides we had last year for our tripes out where more then excellent. We have go back this year to Le Meridien in Luxor.
Beautiful Hotel by The Nile
Fantastic Hotel! The staff were very friendly, the service was excellent. The hotel room was clean not that big though. Around the swimming pool there was an excellent service, and also you have the view of the nile! Perfect! We were 3 young females and got treated very well by all members of staff. I will definetly go back!!
Good hotel
I thought it was a really good hotel, very clean, with a good buffet for breakfast and dinner. The staff were were friendly, and I certainly did not see any evidence of any hassle from the shopkeepers! Although the prices in the shop are very expensive compared to what you pay outside. I agree that they should include a tea and coffee tray, but that is a very small gripe. Our room was on the fifth floor, and below the a/c unit, which was a bit noisy for us. I asked for a room change, and the staff gave us a lovely nile view rooom, without hesitation. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
A great place to stay
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in February 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were booked into Room 433 which had a view of the Nile and of the hotel pool. Our room was very comfortable, roomy and well equipped. We had a balcony which was nice but a bit small. However, there were many rooms which had very large balconies which overlooked the Nile. It is a beautiful hotel, very spacious and smart with many interesting boutiques, shops and eating places. We ate in 3 of the restaurants and the food was very good. However, the service in the Courtyard restaurant was very slow and the staff here were off-hand. The only drawback was that the hotel pool is very close to where some Nile boats moor and when some start up their motors, there is a bit of a smell of their fumes. Security was very obvious in the hotel but did not make me feel worried
A no-hassle stay for single ladies
Any women out there who have travelled on their own will know what I mean when I say that there are some hotels where you feel comfortable and some where you do not. This is definitely a hotel where a lady travelling alone can feel comfortable. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and don't hassle you at all. After walking around the centre of Luxor, where you are likely to be approached quite a lot, returning to the hotel feels like reaching an oasis in the desert. You can relax by the pool, or at any of the cafes, without anyone giving you unwelcome attention. The rooms are Le Meridien are very comfortable, and the views of the sunset from the "nile view" rooms are lovely. If you don't have a nile view room, you can still enjoy the sunset from the area by the river which is set out to look like an Egyptian coffee house, with leather cushions and "sheesha" pipes. This is a very nice way to experience an Egyptian coffee house if you are nervous about visiting one in town. I'd agree with several other reviewers on this site that the breakfast buffet is superb, with plenty of choice. But for the more health-concious amongst you I can also highly recommend the gym! It is up on the top floor of the hotel, so one of the treadmills has a great view across to the valley of the kings. The gym is air-conditioned, so you can use it even in the heat of the day, and it is better equipped than many hotel gyms I have seen. And of course afterwards you can cool off with a swim in the pool. All in all, an excellant base from which to explore the cultural treasures of Luxor.
Luxor lovers
It was our 11th time in Luxor. It is like a second home to us. We stayed 6 times at the Novotel on the Corniche, and one time at the New Winter Palace and 1 time at the Old Winter Palace. But in 2003 we changed to the Le Meridien. In september 2004 we returned to this hotel, because we really enjoyed our first stay, not only because of the architecture of the building, the friendly staff and the excellent cuisine, but also for the personal touch. We immediately felt welcome and taken care of. When we planned to go back the second time, we asked the travel agency for a room from where we could see the sunset, and we were put in a very nice corner room. When we returned last september, we asked for the same room, but even got a nicer one! We belgians love to eat, and we must say that the cuisine in the hotel is excellent to our taste with a lot of variety. You even can compare the quality of the food with that at the posh restaurant 1886 at the "Old Winter Palace". One negative remark however to the restaurant .. there should be a certain "dress code". We hate to see people come in the restaurants in shorts and slippers, like coming straight from the swimming-pool to the table ! The staff is more than just friendly! And when we will return to Luxor, next year probably, we even don't think of going to another hotel!
Nice hotel......But
We have just returned from a week on a Nile Cruise and a week in Le Meridien. The cruise was brilliant and very good value. The hotel was..... Having read other reviews I have to agree that the pool is not as warm as indicated although it is advertised as a "heated pool". Our room was first class with all the usual facilities. The staff and service were also first class and staff were very attentive. We were bed & breakfast. The breakfast was self service and there was a good variety of foods. The available restaurants in the hotel were average with not a great selection of menus. Far better going next door to the Sonesta St George where the menus were better and also better value for money. If you book a room that overlooks the courtyard then be prepared for an awful experience. At 6.30pm a trio plays/sings Egyptian music for an hour. Then at 8.30pm another group arrives along with a belly dancer. They play for another hour. At 10.00pm the first group comes back for another 30 minutes. Don't get me wrong, Egyptian music is OK in small doses but this is just awful. They play the same tunes EVERY night and it gets to you. The belly dancer also looks bored and you get the feeling she doesn't want to be there. I am sure that this "entertainment" drives people out of the hotel and is doing the hotel no favours. Nearly everyone we spoke to was of the same opinion as us. I'm told that if you book the more expensive Nile view rooms then you are spared this dirge. Apart from the "entertainment" we found the hotel a nice place to stay. The best sun beds are right on the Nile bank where the Fellucas are moored. Most residents didn't realise these beds were there so they were freely available and sometimes only 4/6 beds were in use. These are proper sun beds with mattresses and much more comfortable than the the pool beds. Be prepared for hassle all the way into Luxor if you are walking. Also be prepared to end up in an Egyptian market if you ask for a sight seeing tour when taking the horse and trap transport. Negotiate your fare before going and make sure it is for the number of passengers as they ask for the price per person when you finish. Then they ask for donations to feed the horse!!! Good fun can be had bartering with the bazzar keepers at the Nile mini/market in Luxor where the cruise boats are moored. Always try and end up with half of what their asking price is. Good luck.
Nice Hotel cold rooms/pool
Stopped at this hotel Jan 06.This is a nice hotel and the staff were especially friendly and efficient. The only complaints were that the room key card readers need sorting (had to complain on a number of occasions and get replacement cards), and the room cold brrrrr. They claim the pool is heated and display the temp as 27 degrees ish butI would suggest if you've got a dive computer take it with you for a comparison!
