This hotel was wonderful, great food...

Apr 2006, Mrs C Wozny

This hotel was wonderful, great food lovely place and very attentive staff. We had a Nile view and we highly recommend the same. First rate 5* hotel. This place made our "holiday of a lifetime"
We also found a driver called Hamdy Ahmed who took us round all the sights for a 1/4 of the cost that we would have paid to the tour operator. He took us to a local restaurant "El Hussein" which was used by the local police. The food was out of this world and 3 courses for 6 of us came to approx £45. One thing you should note its a "dry" restaurant (doesn’t serve alcohol) but if you can wait until going back to the hotel then this is the place you should go to eat. Our driver also took us to the local Souks which allowed us to see local life in the flesh. Brilliant!!
One tip make sure that you have loads of water with you, if traveling on your own otherwise you'll find the local "wide boys" charging you a fortune for what is after all only water. Our driver Hamdy always had cold water on his vehicle which he only charged the going rate. We had been caught out before we found him and got charged £3 for a liter bottle of water. Make sure you have plenty of small notes for baksheesh (tips) the locals generally go out of their way for you so a small note is greatly appreciated and adds to the family coffers.
We are going back in June 2006 for our wedding anniversary and we are staying at the same hotel and using the same driver. We have arranged for him to drive us for the whole of our stay.

I went to Egypt as a regular visitor...
9 / 10
Jan 2006, hamham

I went to Egypt as a regular visitor and would recommend anyone to go, I was there 4 weeks did 2 centres and went everywhere, it was brill.
The advise I would give to new tourists to the area of Luxor is; keep your eyes on valuables, haggle for prices, make sure you are talking Egyptian pounds and enjoy it. There is hassle but be firm do not let that put you off.
Do not get too involved with Egyptians as there are some real experts around at extracting money from venerable tourists. Inviting you to there homes is one thing but regular is not wise. ENJOY IT, IT IS A WONDERFUL COUNTRY, with lots of history and something for everyone.
I would not recommend LUXOR for children under 12 as they would be easily bored. Sharm el Sheikh is the place for them, lots more to do beach, diving, snorkelling, night life.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights...
10 / 10
Nov 2005, Mrs C Wozny

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights having stayed in Cairo for the first 3 and then moving to Sharm for 8 after this. I have read a number of reviews of Le Meridian and I have to put the record straight. This place was wonderful. Clean, good food, great staff and a great atmosphere. 24 hour room service, fridge in the room sat t.v. for home news etcetera. The place was in a good location. Lots to do in the area of course. We were offered a number of excursions by Kuoni but they were very expensive. We managed to find ourselves a driver who took us everywhere for 4 days for at 1/4 of the price of one trip that Kuoni offered.
It is essential that you do your own excursions. We are going back next June and we have arranged for the same driver to drive us around during our stay. We have arranged with him by email so that he is waiting for us at the other end. Even though bartering is fun its nice to know what your spending before you go.
He also arranged for a boat trip for £2 for 4 of us and took us to all the nooks and crannies that the tour operators don’t tell you about or don’t go to.
I have no complaints about Kuoni as a holdiay firm they were also great hence why were are travelling with them again in June.
You must try the El Hussaein restaurant which Hamdy took us to. Near to the Hilton hotel although it is "dry" we had a 3 course meal for 6 for less that £45. Proper Egyptian food - lovely.
There are restaurants within the hotel which were fine but we didn't travel all that way to stay in the hotel. However if you've had a hard day tripping about eat in the hotel restaurants or eat with room services, this was brilliant and dead cheap.
We also went to a local Souk whihc was amazing real local life lots of bargains and not a "cousin" of Hamdy's in sight.
All in all a truly memorable holiday cant wait to go back to Le Meridian and Luxor!!!!
