This hotel is centrally situated for all the sites-restaurants, shopping and theatres are all close by. There is a cable car stop just outside that takes you down to Fisherman’s Wharf (great fun). There is also a good public transport service.
The hotel itself is lovely, small enough to offer good personal service. I cannot comment on the food we did not eat there as there are lots of reasonably priced excellent restaurants right next to the hotel.
The bedrooms are very nice and comfortably furnished. We loved this hotel and San Francisco is just the best place to visit. There is loads to see and do from visiting Alcatraz to watching the seal on the piers, admiring the architecture or going to the theatre or shopping.

The Handlery is an excellent hotel if you're in San Francisco and don't want to blow your budget on accommodation. It's family run and subsequently feels a lot more homely than staying in a big chain hotel.
It's situated just off Union Square, the city's premiere shopping area (it's just 50 metres from Macy's!). There are lots of great eateries around the square, and a cable car runs to Fisherman's Wharf from the corner.
The only downside to the Handlery is that some may find the rooms over Geary Street a little noisy at night. It didn't bother my girlfriend or I because we are used to city centre noise. However, the noise can be overcome by requesting a room to the rear of the hotel. Most people are so tired after walking around beautiful San Francisco all day, traffic noise isn't going to stop them sleeping!
