A fantastic holiday, the staff at...

Oct 2007, Mr M Nugent

A fantastic holiday, the staff at this hotel are friendly and hard working. The facilities are excellent. I upgraded on arrival and had a room with a balcony overlooking the main pool.
There was diving from the floating jetty at the beach straight onto coral reef. Temperature in the 30s every day and hardly lower than 24 at night. The air con in the rooms was efficient and easy to adjust. I can't praise it enough.
The only downside might be the food, which is fairly ordinary. But it's acceptable and let’s face it I was looking for sun and sea... The gourmet eating I'll do in France.

A lovely hotel and a great pool area....

Oct 2007, Miss S J Jones

A lovely hotel and a great pool area. There was a variety of bars for a change of scenery.
Being all inclusive, it was good to relax and enjoy a good range of food and drink available.
My only reservation is that the food could be a little repetitive.
This was a quiet hotel that definitely offered value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful; there was some entertainment offered, however, it proved not to be what we were looking for.
The hotel rooms were well maintained and modern. Overall the hotel was very clean and well looked after - I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a peaceful getaway in a nice location.

This was probably the best holiday I...

Sep 2007, Mr L Woolmore

This was probably the best holiday I have ever been on. The resort was great. We stayed in a deluxe room which cost only about £10 extra per night.
The room was quite big marble bathroom and super king size bed with a view of the huge main pool and the sea from our private balcony.
I had some reservations about the all inclusive system. I generally like to pick where I eat dinner. The two restaurants offered a huge choice of food throughout the day. Breakfast and lunch in the main restaurant was buffet style both hot cold, with a chef station for freshly prepared food.
Lunch was also available from the pool bbq area with beef hot dogs or burgers and chips. Dinner was available from the Italian style restaurant which had a set three course meal or freshly prepared pizza of your choice. Or the main restaurant with a choice of around 12 different main dishes with a different theme each evening.
All drinks from local beer to cocktails were free including bottled water.
The hotel had a private beach which was a little small they had made use of the cliff to make a few different levels of sandy "beach for sun loungers. The jetty put you in the sea right amongst the corals. I enjoyed this most. with a huge array of tropical fish.
The hotel also had a small shopping arcade and four bar areas. The chill out bar offering entertainment each night.
Overall I would highly recommend this resort. Only thing I would change would be the length of my stay from seven days to at least ten.

I entirely agree with Ms A Howard's...
10 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs V Taruvinga

I entirely agree with Ms A Howard's review and all of her comments. It is a fair and accurate assessment. We, my husband and two teenage sons, had a fantastic time at this resort and it was brilliant. Booked via Explorers.
I would definitely recommend the hotel to any of my friends without hesitation. The only gripe I have was about the hotel's evening entertainment which I feel could be improved on.
I know I'm comparing with what is available at some of the hotels in the Med.
Anyway, it was okay but it needs polishing and tweaking here and there.
The staff at the hotel were fabulous, friendly, polite and very eager to please. Egyptians are nice and warm people. Food was delicious and varied resulting in me and my husband throwing caution to the wind and devouring the salads. Never do this.
We had hell to pay as we later suffered from Pharaohs' Revenge. I am not sure whether it was the ice in the drinks, the salads or us not brushing our teeth with bottled water. We only ever drank bottled water though. The stomach pains lasted for a further week after we returned from the holiday. Our sons were left unscathed however as they never touched the salads, ice and brushed their teeth with bottled water all the time. We didn't even do this.
Yes the haggling was soul destroying. You were terrified to browse or touch anything in case it became yours. They literally shoved it in your hand and said "...it's yours for 500 Egyptian pounds" and then proceed to hassle you to take it for 100, 80, 50 and then eventually ask you to give what you think the item is worth. Or have it for free and make a donation! It was draining and exhausting particularly at the tombs in Luxor and the old markets in Sharm.
Anyway, we can't wait to go back to the same resort and to Hilton Sharks Bay. Particularly loved the snorkelling, the Sunset Bar and the general feel and ambience of the resort and accommodation.
The beach was lovely, the Chill Out room, the gazebos etc Please go and have a whale of a time.

Comments: We have just returned...
10 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs DR Watson

Comments: We have just returned from our stay at Hilton Sharks Bay and had an amazing time!
We travelled with BA and had plenty of leg room, also complimentary drinks and a nice meal.
When you get to Sharm el Sheikh you have to buy a visa before you can get through passport control. The cueing system at the airport is very hectic so be sure to buy your visa before you start cueing for passport control.
If you don’t you will have to go and buy your visa and rejoin the (very long) cue. Visas cost £10 per person but you can pay in Sterling, American Dollars or Egyptian Pounds.
The hotel itself is beautiful and very well looked after. When we arrived we were allocated room 612. This was in between the pool and the beach which meant we weren’t disturbed by noise from either.
There are rooms around the pool however and I imagine these can be quite noisy. We were driven to our rooms on a golf buggy which I thought was a nice touch.
The room was big with a king size bed, shower, balcony, fridge and TV (which shows English films!). The rooms are cleaned everyday and the cleaners leave amazing towel designs on the bed.
There are three restaurants on the complex. All the food is lovely and there is a lot of choice (on all inclusive you can basically eat from 6am till 2am!!) but my boyfriend and I both suffered diarrhoea. Apparently this is normal so I would advise you to take Imodium with you.
There is a pharmacy across the road from the hotel who are very helpful (and speak English) if you need medicine.
There are also three bars, two of which are open till 2am. There is a fantastic atmosphere between the guests and you will probably find yourself out till late most nights. The choice of all inclusive drinks is good and they aren’t watered down unlike other all inclusive hotels I have stayed in.
The beach and the pool are beautiful, very clean and well looked after. Don’t bother to take towels as you can pick up clean ones everyday from huts by the pool and beach.
There is also a selection of books which you can borrow if you like.
The snorkelling is amazing and I would recommend buying an underwater camera from the hotel shop. We didn’t bother to hire snorkels, just bought them from the shop. They were a bit pricey at £15 but well worth it.
The staff are very accommodating and helpful. As a guide to tipping: we tipped approx 5 Egyptian Pounds a time, this is about £5 which is a lot of money out there. You will only need to tip once and the staff will remember you for the rest of the holiday.
Overall I would say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at and would highly recommend it, especially for couples and families.

Just returned from an amazing holiday...
10 / 10
Aug 2007, Ms A HOWARD

Just returned from an amazing holiday at this place. We've been to many all inclusive holidays in Egypt and the med and this is our favourite by far. All the staff were incredibly friendly (yes, even the ones on reception!)And made us feel very welcome.
Look out for the sandman and take him the odd cold drink, he'll be your best friend.
The food was fabulous. We had the usual buffet for breakfast with a couple of chefs on hand to cook your eggs and omelettes how you like them. Lunch was also a buffet or burgers and stuff cooked outside on the grill, but best of all was a quick 2 minute walk down to the sunset bar and you could get a freshly made sandwich. My favourite was tuna mayo but you could have roast beef and other stuff too. What we thought was great was the fact that you could get a bag of crisps from all the indoor bars. At other hotels we've always had to pay extra for these.
In all the brochures it says that ice creams are only from 4-5pm but that is wrong and it's actually 12-5pm from the pool bar and there are either cornettos or tubs. The mango tub is yummy!
Dinner was either the buffet again or the Italian restaurant where there is a set menu or you can have a freshly made pizza.
I am a fussy eater and I managed to eat well for the whole time we were there.
The drinks were great too. A vodka sunrise cocktail is very refreshing.
The main pool is lovely. Considering it was so hot (50 degrees on 2 days) the pool itself was never really busy. The only downside was that I was setting an alarm clock for 6am to make sure we got sun loungers as these all seemed to go by 7am. Apparently you can tip the pool boy and he'll reserve them for you but we didn't bother.
The other pools were much quieter and smaller but you had further to walk to the bar and in that heat it is unbearable walking anywhere.
The beach isn't really a beach but a platform to go snorkelling and diving from. There are sun beds and a beach bar but most people stayed at the pool. As for the noise from the hotel being built next door - you cannot hear it at all from anywhere except the beach where you can hear 1 jackhammer. After 10 minutes you don't even notice it and anyone who complains about it is just looking for a criticism. I read some of these reports before I went and was worried unnecessarily.
Evening entertainment isn't brilliant compared to the med but it is much better than most hotels in Egypt and the chill out bar has a great atmosphere in the evenings and is open for all inclusive drinks till 2am.
I think one of the best bits about this resort is how safe it is, especially if you're taking teenagers who want a bit of freedom. My 15 yr old was able to stay out late at night simply because he could not get off the site without going past a security guard who doesn’t let kids out. But also they don't let anyone back in who is not a guest at the hotel.
If you want to escape the hotel then the Hard rock cafe in Naama bay is a good night out. you can get the bus from the hotel. Naama bay itself is a pain though because of the shop keepers constantly hassling you. Some of the shops look beautiful but I’m sure they would get a lot more customers if they would just let them browse. We got fed up in the end and caught the earlier bus back.
Don't feel like you have to go there to buy cigarettes. They are dirt cheap at the airport. B & H are about £10 for 200.
And finally a quick note about the airport - again, from some reports we were dreading it but it was great. You do not need a visa if you are not going to leave sharm el sheikh. Just ask for a free 14 day visa. It will save you a lot of money.
Also, do not pay for transfers to the hotel. We paid |£10 each return via our travel agent but you are really close to the airport and a cab will only cost about £5 or £6.
Go and enjoy yourselves like we did. It was a fantastic holiday!!

Recently returned from our second...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr L  Cooper

Recently returned from our second visit to Hilton Sharks Bay - no one at work could believe we were going to the same place again, but it really is perfect! In fact it was better second time than the first!
We arrived and having got settled in headed off to the Sunset Bar for a drink - as we were sitting there Hezan (used to work at the main pool - now at the Beach) walked by and called my name!! Bearing in mind I hadn't seen him for a year he remembered me, came over shook my hand and welcomed us back - he is a true gent and so pleasant.
Mohammed in the Mahfouz restaurant (blue stripy shirt) along with Baseem & Sayid are worth looking up also - these guys have a smile on their faces as 8am for Breakfast right the way through to 10pm at Dinner! - And like so many of the staff an asset to Hilton Sharks Bay.
The Hotel was near full capacity when we were there but you wouldn't have known. As for the building works, yes there is some work going on next door. It was going on last year, they were breaking up rocks early morning till early evening - but let’s face it would you rather be in wet England or sat in blistering heat without a cloud in the Sky??
We spent most of our two weeks at the top pool near Mahfouz restaurant and it was silent. In fact I counted one day and 8 of the 12 people there were asleep mid afternoon!
'Egyptian Tummy' - not sure what to say on this as this year we experienced nothing. Its funny though as you can always tell new arrivals - they come in see its buffet & pile their plates sky high as though they've never eaten before then wash it down with alcohol then go out in the heat! it doesn't mix well!
Best to eat in moderation & drink plenty of bottled water which is in red cool boxes around the complex or at the Bars. The food by the way is lovely - the Indian selection on Il Rustico of an evening is fantastic!
It’s the perfect place to chill out, get a great tan, and meet some lovely people!!
Once you've been you'll find it difficult to find somewhere of the same standard, where the staff are so friendly, somewhere the sun shines all day with no chance of rain & the price!
In fact I’ve just booked to go back in October for 9 nights - which will be third time!
Get it booked & Enjoy!!!!

The Resort was fantastic and great...
7 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr G M Austin

The Resort was fantastic and great value, just under £250 for a week all inclusive at a 5 star hotel.
The diving was fantastic and we came back with 18 used underwater cameras.
The only negatives I would say is that it is a little on the quiet side, I went with a group of guys and I would recommend this as one to go on with the misses and also June is the hottest time of the year with temperatures in excess of 40 degrees regularly (over a 100 in old money).
7 out of 10 may be a bit harsh as I feel that if I went with a lady wanting a quiet time and went a few months later I would have been hard pressed not to give a 10.

First time I had been on an all...
9 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr R A  Gurney

First time I had been on an all inclusive holiday and it was the first time I had been to Egypt and I must say I loved it.
The pool was large with a bar next to it and water activities during the day. There were two restaurants to go to, both serving good food and a varied choice, including fresh fruit.
The water is free from the pool bar, instead of paying for it from the onsite supermarket.
There is a good beach with activities next to the complex. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. There was also a gym near the pool, to help burn off some excess food and drink.
The only down side to the holiday was the night time activity, they had a good beach party one night but apart from that not a lot more. There is a bar downstairs with some entertainment on each night, but we found it not that entertaining. We found it pleasant having a few drinks next to the pool bar each night.
I would defiantly recommend this hotel to anybody and would love to go back sometime soon but for two weeks instead of one.

When we arrived in Egypt, the weather...
8 / 10
Jun 2007, Miss ZG Zoe

When we arrived in Egypt, the weather is unbearable! Only managed the whole 2 weeks as there was a slight breeze. Our last day was 48 degrees! 42 in the shade! You're very tanned when you come back anyway.
Egypt is a beautiful country, Sharm el sheikh especially clean. Very shocked with the all the illnesses nearly every person got there! Including myself that had to have a doctor out to the hotel, very scary having to have needles on your holiday and to stay in bed a few days. Apart from that little problem there is no downfalls whatsoever.
The Hilton Hotel was truly breathtaking, incredibly friendly people, including the waiters, bar staff, towel men, cleaners even the chefs! (Maybe because I am a teenage girl though!) An at this time of the year, there was hardly any teenagers.
They all seemed to be young couples on holiday together, or groups of friends. Hardly any families which was a bit of a downfall.
The entertainment staff are very erm... energetic! They always want you up doing something either the hotel dance, water polo, beach ball etc. Even in my case having to belly dance one night as the evening’s entertainment!
I very recommend that if you go the Egypt you HAVE 2 visit the pyramids. Extremely pricey though... be warned But very worth the money! Out of this world seeing them. And the museum is breathtaking. Real life mummies! Kind of scary but very worth it, some even still had hair!
Also we visited Naama Bay. Some brilliant restaurants, I recommend the Chinese! I didn’t like it here at all though. The Egyptian men are appalling. Offering my parents to buy me for 200 camels, isn't such a nice experience! They really like the English women, so make sure you hold on to your husband/boyfriend tightly whilst walking round the shops.
The food at the hotel, you couldn’t argue with. Catered for all, and had a wide range of different varieties. So you don’t have to eat just chips your whole holiday. An I am a very fussy eater. Don’t be scared to eat the food because of the illness going round though, it is NOT the food!
The doctor and all the people of the hotel believed it was the Egyptians currency. Which I believe is quite hard to understand in a way. Just make sure you do wash your hands every time you touch their money. You will notice that the notes are very dirty.
Overall my holiday was amazing. A little to quiet for me though as I enjoy loud places, with a few more of the older teenagers there.
This hotel would be highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I visited The Hilton...
10 / 10
Jun 2007, Miss CJ Reardon

My boyfriend and I visited The Hilton Sharks Bay Resort for the second time in the last 12 months and had the best time.
We arrived later than expected as our flight was delayed but we were very warmly welcomed and were immediately shown to our rooms. Our room was lovely and overlooked the main pool and was like a fridge (the air conditioning is excellent)!
We were both warned about the salad, ice cubes and ice cream before we went but me, my boyfriend, and four other people that we had met out their all ate it and none of us were ill.
I highly recommend the quad biking (book this through your tour operator, they are a little more expensive but they book it through a very reputable company ( Sahara) that ensure you are wearing the right clothing and footwear and all bikers have to wear hard hats. We paid £30 each for 2 1/2 hrs session.
We also hired a speed boat for the afternoon which takes you over to Tiran Island it is amazing, we were told by the chap that we booked it through that we would see Dolphins and Turtles but unfortunately we didn't but I would still recommend it.
The only one kind of bad experience was when me and my boyfriend ventured out of the resort and headed to Naama Bay. As soon as we got out of our taxi we were hassled by men asking us to come into their shops to sign their guestbook! (Don't believe a word of it, it's just a ploy to get you in and make you buy something). We only stayed for 45 mins then decided to go back to our hotel.
There really is no need to venture out of the complex as it really does cater for everyone. The food was really nice, all different types of menu not just chips and chicken as I have been used too in some hotels! The main pool is really good but we spent most of our time in the pool with the slide (I know big kids at heart).
Overall an absolute brilliant holiday and will be visiting next year.
11/10!

I have just returned from my 2nd...
10 / 10
Jun 2007, Miss K Willson

I have just returned from my 2nd visit to the Hilton Sharks Bay with my partner Paul, and it was as good as the 1st time.
The hotel is very clean and tidy and most of the staff recognised us from our 1st visit and were pleased that we had come back.
The staff could not be more helpful than they were, and would do all they could to help you in any way and always with a warm smile on their faces.
There are plenty of sunbeds available around the pool and the beach areas and the snorkelling off the beach's private jetty is very good.
The variety of food is very good and something for everyone.
Pizza, Burgers, Pasta, Chicken, Oriental, sandwiches, snacks, Ice-cream and even crisps and a nice set menu, which changes every day in the Il Rustico Italian restaurant. You can eat from 6am till 2am so you should never go hungry.
The drinks are all ok and they have all local brands of spirits, wine and cocktails, fruit juices and water is on hand all day to stop you de-hydrating.
If you do have a case of an upset Egyptian stomach then just across the road from the hotel is an excellent pharmacy and reasonable too.
All of the bars are different and the chill out bar is good in the evening with entertainment (not the best but then they are trying to cater for all nationalities) but it is humorous, and the animation team are also very friendly.
The weather in Egypt is another reason for returning, guaranteed sunshine and it has been 110+ degrees all week with 9 hours of sunshine a day.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel again, if you find something you like then why not?
