We booked a holiday in a quiet resort like Cala Vinas because we wanted to relax. We went to paleocastritsa, Corfu (another quiet resort) earlier in the year and really enjoyed ourselves. But Cala Vinas gave quiet a new meaning. There was absolutely nothing to do. There was only 3 hotels in the so-called resort. I think I remember passing one bar and a Chinese restaurant, but that is all. We have no complaints about the accommodation but Cala Vinas is certainly not meant for a relatively young couple with a two year old looking for a relaxing holiday. We were only glad that we booked one week and not two.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week at the Barcelo Cala Vinas hotel. We paid £220 each for half board allocation on arrival. We got allocated a place at the north of the island called Cala San Vicente but as it was in the middle of nowhere with about 1 bar and a tiny beach, we decided to pay to be transferred to a livelier place. So we paid 90 Euro’s each and were told to make our own way to Cala Vinas. The taxi cost 70 Euro’s, so by the time we got to Barcelo Cala Vinas we had little money left and were exhausted.
When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was that our room was not as spacious or clean as the one in Cala San Vicente but we put that behind us and had a look around. We found that the hotel was massive (our room was 926!), and it had it’s own little shop, 2 pools, and 2 eateries, and it was also right on the beach which was a bonus. But to be honest the resort of Cala Vinas itself was tiny and we were disappointed.
The small beach, shared by 3 hotels got really packed and the sea was full of rubbish with a skip at the side full of old TV’s and furniture. Magaluf was only a 20-minute walk away though and we spent the remainder of our holiday going to that beach and walking back for our evening meal at 7pm, as we were half board.
As for nightlife Cala Vinas has absolutely nothing so we got a taxi every night to Magaluf (only 5 Euro’s), and we had a really good time there. The nightclubs in Magaluf are brilliant, only 15 Euro’s for entrance and free drinks all night, and I had a really good 21st birthday there.
On the last night, whilst waiting for our coach we saw a bit of entertainment going on at the hotel, but most of it was in Spanish, I bought a drink from the bar too and it cost me double than what I paid in Magaluf. I can’t really fault the hotel, the staff were friendly, the room was air conditioned, and the meals were buffet style with a wide variety, but the resort itself is not good for young couples. If you are staying at this hotel though, make sure you ask for a room with a sea or pool view as we got a view of the back of another hotel.
