Best holidays we had so far!
Very clean place, everyone very friendly especialy the entertainer. He was great, didn't stop all day. During the day he would host a water polo or an air-rifle shooting cometition ... , in the evening together with his colleagues they would organise a concert/cabare, usualy 1st half would be for small kids and then for everyone.
Once we dicovered their food we upgrade from self-catering to half-board. Do not remember how much it was exactly but it was reasonable. The holiday itself we bought last minute very cheap, only £300. This year we decided to go there again but can't find anything near that price. Will continue searh, really want to go there again.
It is in a quiet corner of Cala Vines, well away from all the pubs and clubs. just the way we like it. Great for families.

Apr 2008, Miss S Williams

I went to cala vinas and i loved it. I went there on my own at ages 18. i thought the hotel was great, staff great and rep great.
The pool was nice and literally the beach was a few steps away. It was far enough from magaluf to have a quiet time but close enough to go shopping, beaching and drinking.
It a quite hotel, good for coupls, sinles and family.
STAFF ARE GREAT, trust me i locked myself in my room, but they could not get the man out to get me in so the put me in another room for the night.
BEST HOLIDAY EBER!

Dec 2006, Miss Ah Higgy

Me and my friend stayed at Barceló Cala Vinas for one week in an apartment. The rooms were very clean and tidy and were cleaned every day by the maids.
The facilities were great there are two pool a small games room a restaurant, a pool bar and other quieter bar. During the day there were activities for children and adults to do. The beach is right next to the hotel and is beautiful! Right opposite this hotel is another one that is very friendly with a lot of night life, also near by there are restaurants and small cafes.
This is all a 10 minute taxi drive away from lively Magaluf! We really, really enjoyed our holiday there and can't wait to go back next year!

Nov 2006, Mrs A Stewart

I went here this summer and I enjoyed my holiday. I would use this hotel as a base but I went into Magaluf at night as I wanted English entertainment, as the entertainment at the hotel was in Spanish.
The cleaners came in everyday with clean bedding and towels. I would recommend going into Magaluf to eat at night as you can get 5 meals for 35 euros! At the bar they tend to serve the Spanish first before the English but I got the impression they liked the Scottish better.
During the day there are competitions for table tennis and archery which are fun. The pool is clean and relaxing. There aren’t enough sun beds but if you want one it is best to go down early in the morning with a towel. The beach is in the centre of the hotels and is nice and clean.
If you want English entertainment and food it would be better to stay in Magaluf as you would save money on the taxi and bus fares. There is a regular bus service which was about 1 euro 60 cents. The taxis are about 5 euros. If you were to walk it would take about 10 minutes but I wouldn't advise to walk it at night as there is part of the walk without a fence at the side.
Overall I enjoyed my holiday and I would recommend it for a quiet relaxing holiday. If you want a lively and loud holiday book up to go to Magaluf it could save you a lot of money.

Sep 2006, Family Garvey

We are the Garvey family we spent two weeks in Cala Vinas apartments. The apartment and kitchen are basic but very clean with white towels and bedding. The food in the buffet restaurant is excellent.
Nightly entertainment was disco for young children then audience games or dance shows which when there for 2 weeks got very repetitive. The pools and beach were very clean.
Over all it was clean, quiet and very enjoyable for us.

Aug 2006, Mrs L Raw

We had the unfortunate pleasure of staying at the Barcelo Cala Vinas. I can honestly say this is the worst holiday I have ever had.
We arrived at the hotel at 10.00am. We checked in at the reception desk and was given a key for the luggage room and told our room was not ready yet. The receptionist explained, people do not have to be out of their rooms until 12.00pm and then a cleaner has to go in. I asked, so what time will it be ready? I don't know, the receptionist replied. You try back at 15.30pm. We were told to route through our cases and get changed in the shower room. Nice start!
When we finally got in our room, which I have to say was not newly renovated at all, it was very basic, old fashioned and not very clean. I took a look around, as you do! I opened the fridge door and to my astonishment it was covered top to toe in orange rust. I asked the receptionist to come and take a look. She told me this was due to the humidity and looked at me as though there was something wrong with me. I told her I would not be using it, this was filthy. Eventually after some persuading she brought me another.
I later realised there were no cups in the room. I asked reception for some, which I received two and a half hours later in a carrier bag and was told, The maid is very busy at the moment, so you will have to wash these yourself. Very nice!
The children’s daytime entertainer could not speak a word of English. This meant my children could not understand her and she could not understand them, so there was no point in joining in the activities. Not that they were asked ever!
We decided, as we had never done all inclusive before, to upgrade for 3 days of our holiday, at an extra cost. I thought this would save us money. How wrong was I? There were very little items to choose from at the snack bar, without paying extra on top of the all inclusive. There was very little food choice for the English in the restaurant, and food was not at all labeled. The restaurant also an unpleasant very nice scent about it, which was quite off putting. The all inclusive did not consist of crisps, nuts and ice-cream for the kids, but on the 13th day of our holiday, suddenly a self service bar was set up and crisps, nuts and ice-cream became free. Why did we have to pay for crisps etc. for 12 days, but suddenly on the 13th day they became free? Strange.
The evening would start with bingo which was called in several different languages, but the entertainment consisted of only Spanish. We asked the entertainer nicely, who was multilingual and could speak several different languages, if he would mind repeating Spanish sentences in English as we did not understand what was being said. We were rudely told, if you want English then go to Magaluf. This is what we did, even though we would not benefit from the money paid for the all inclusive. He was very rude!
You were left sat at the bar for up to 15 mins at a time. The Waiters would serve all the Spanish before the English. Even the Spanish that came to the bar after us. When everyone, barring myself had been served, the staff would either stack shelves behind the bar or wash up, then return to me. It was as though the staff were trying to let me know they would serve me when they were ready. The hotel staff clearly did not like the English and made this quite obvious.
If you are staying self catering do not take any notice of the picture of the Barcelo, showing views of Cala Vinas Beach. These views are only possible for people staying all inclusive and half board, as self catering is situated at the very back of the hotel, which is all it is worthy of, as it is not worth seeing.
I would never wish to return to the Barcelo Cala Vinas even if I was offered a free holiday and would not recommend it to my worst enemy.

Aug 2006, Miss K Langstaff

I visited Cala Vinas in July/August 06 with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. We were all very pleased with the hotel and quiet surprised by how nice it was. The view from our rooms were fantastic we were on the forth floor looking out over the bay. The food in the hotel was brilliant, so much choice and lovely views from the restaurant.
All the staff were really nice and helpful I cannot fault this hotel and would recommend it to anyone its a 1 minute walk to the beach or you can jump in the sea from the pool area. The evening entertainment varied it was run by a very hard working who were great with the kids they also organised games and activities threw out the day to keep kids entertained.
At night there was a mini disco for all the kids followed by half hour of bingo then a show which changed each night some shows were excellent some poor suppose it all depends what you’re into.
If you don’t want to stay at the hotel for the evening it’s only a 5 euro taxi ride to Magaluf so you can have a wild night out and come back to peace and quiet when you have had enough. I thought this hotel was great!

Lovely Resort - Appalling Hotel I...
1 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss J Pyle

Lovely Resort - Appalling Hotel
I don’t quite know where to start with this there really so many negative points with the hotel!
After a long day of trains, delayed flights and stuffy coaches my partner and I arrived at the Barceló Cala Vinas which at first looked rather nice (despite the water dripping from the reception ceiling and the stray cat). Our Airtours rep put her head round the door to let reception know we had arrived but we were still waiting at reception 30 mins later. Another English couple were having problems with their booking so the main receptionist was busy which was fair enough but we weren’t even acknowledged. There was another person behind reception that just looked at us so we assumed he wasn’t trained until he decided to eventually give us our room key after staring at us for what seemed like a lifetime. After all of this hassle we tried to get some food where the restaurant manager rudely told us that we were too late despite the restaurant not closing for another half an hour.
Once in the very tired looking room (which was supposed to be self catering but only has a hob) we saw that our balcony faced the wall and the stairs linked onto our balcony. A million miles away from the sea or pine forest views mentioned on the Barceló website. We complained to reception and our rep but nothing was done.
We were informed by the hotel and our Airtours rep and reception staff that the hotel was being refurbished (shame they couldn’t have let us know before we got there) so don’t take any notice of the statements on the Barceló website which say it is ‘fully renovated’ and ‘fully refurbished’
As the holiday went on rubbish began to build up outside our balcony. This was clearly the stuff from the rooms that were being refurbished because there were fridges and tables alongside rubbish bins and pizza boxes with cats eating the leftovers and the cleaners dirty water throw over it all.
So our relaxing two week holiday turned out that we were sat out amongst rubbish with many staff members sitting on the rubbish looking at us, housekeepers which would shout from different floors of the hotel at each other regardless of the time of day, and constant flow of people up and down the stairs just next to our balcony. Our self catering holiday became very expensive eating out all of the time as we didn’t want to spend anytime in the room relaxing, eating or drinking on the balcony.
The attitude of staff at the hotel is dreadful and we believed it was because we were English and they appeared to stereotype us. The hotel is clearly a Spanish hotel but despite us trying to embrace them and enjoy our holiday alongside the Spanish guest and hotel staff we felt unwelcome. This therefore meant we didn’t sit by the pool, in the bar or try the restaurant in the whole 2 weeks.
If through bad fortune you end up at this hotel make sure you take an alarm clock as you won’t get your wake up call, expect the pool is full of screaming children despite there being an empty child pool round the other side of the hotel, and don’t order a taxi at the hotel as we were waiting an hour one morning (just walk over to the hotel across the beach and order from there).
Overall Cala Vinas is a lovely resort with a nice beach, a few restaurants and it is close to Magaluf and Palma Nova for a variety of things do to day and night.
I always read these sort of reviews and think that the people that write the are over reacting and moaning for no reason but it really is that bad. Just promise me you won’t stay as this hotel!

Mar 2006, Ms M Ahmed

My boyfriend and I stayed her for 4 nights at the end of the summer season. The hotel was great, lovely staff, amazing views, private little beach and nothing like magaluf-which we felt was too tacky.
Our only negative point was that it was quite far out of town and the buses only went 3 times a day.
We booked through Expedia who offer a free night when you book more than 3 consecutive nights so it worked out to be very reasonable.
The hotel also offer some entertainment to get guests chatting which was a lot of fun, we met a few other young couples out there for the first time as well.

Sep 2005, Miss CEM Hitchcock

Myself and my mum came on holiday and stayed at this hotel. Living in Spain currently just outside Alicante I found Majorca to be a lovely place.
This was a great hotel, great food, entertainment was excellent. Having booked only a week before we still feel we got a great deal. The taxis were cheap. They all spoke English in the hotel. We are pleased we opted for all inclusive as everything was so easy as we didn’t have too worry about money or carrying it around.
We went into Magalluf a couple of nights and we really enjoyed ourselves specially all the cocktail bars on the beach. I would definitely go back to the same hotel another year!!! We only went for one week I think 10 days would be much more nicer.

Jul 2004, Miss M McShane

Overall, nice family resort but I went away with a group of friends and it was too quiet for us. Too far away from the shops and nightlife in Magalluf, had to pay at least six euros to get a taxi there, and this became expensive when we were making the trip at least once a day. However, pool was lovely and staff very friendly and helpful. Occasionally we had difficulty with the cleaning staff that did not turn up. Room was adequate, disappointed by the lack of a grill.

We first stayed at this hotel two...
5 / 10
Jun 2004, Miss S Dyne

We first stayed at this hotel two years ago before the "all inclusive" deals had been introduced and the difference that has made is over-whelming. Where before the emphasis was on discreet service for quiet couples and families, they have obviously decided that bulk tourism is the only way forward. As a result the rules (still printed in the lift) that request gentlemen wear long trousers in the dining room etc. have been abandoned in the name of mass appeal.
However, nothing can detract from the actual beauty of the setting of the hotel. The views from the bedrooms, dining room etc. is wonderful. The rooms themselves are spacious and well appointed. The towels are changed daily and linen twice a week.
What was disappointing though was the standard of the food. There was less choice than before but, far worse, was the fact that the hot food was always luke warm, if not actually cold. Despite being on an all inclusive basis, we still chose to eat out several times just because we wanted a "hot" meal. We managed for a week but I think a fortnight would have been impossible.
The entertainment was just about ok. Nothing too terrible, but not very good either. The children obviously enjoyed the mini disco each evening and the girls did work hard to keep them entertained. There were more Germans than English guests and I am not sure that including "the Dam Busters" each night was very tactful.
The holiday was very good value for money because of the all inclusive cover. We are both very modest drinkers but even so, we got through a fair amount of water, cokes etc. Had we been on a half board basis, like before, the extras would soon have added up.
The resort itself is almost non-existant. There are a couple of restaurants and shops but nothing else. The tiny beach is very pretty but apart from that, and the excellent views, there is little else to recommend it. To be fair though, this is why we chose it in the first place, as we didn’t want karaoke bars etc.
If you are looking for a quiet, good-value holiday and you don’t mind about the food, then I would recommend it. If you want choice, excitement and hot food, perhaps look elsewhere.
